hi yall

so, i actually finished this drawing like a week ago lol. but i didnt want to post a bunch of drawing in a row, and then i got sick, so i havent been able to post it till now!

its my imaginings of what noelle looked like as she grew up, and a potential adult noelle design! ill explain my thought processes about these designs below, if anyones interested 😁

i also plan on doing one of these with dess, but this one was pretty difficult, so it might be awhile before that (unless yalls are interested in seeing it?)

first off, im not 100% sure ill keep using all these designs. some of them im not that happy with (im no good at designing outfits 😔) but i just went with them so i could finish the drawing. so if anyone has any alternative outfit ideas for any of her ages, id be interested in seeing/hearing it!

secondly, something that may stick out to yall for all the designs is how tall she gets. its the same height i normally draw her with, but given how i usually draw her by herself you cant really tell how tall she is! i have 3 main reasons for why i headcanon her as this tall: deer are pretty tall irl, so having her be tall makes sense in my head; i just like the look of her being super tall, it makes me happy lol; and third, i personally also headcanon the holiday family as boss monsters (i think ive explained this headcanon before on here, so i wont explain again, unless someone is interested ^^). so yeah, she ends up being 7 feet tall as an adult, the second tallest in her family!

also, i gave all her children forms stripes in some way, as a reference to when monster kid in undertale says they can tell frisk is a kid because of their stripes!

now onto my explainations for individual drawings!

theres nothing really to say about her baby design. the only thing i did that might be new is give her faun spots! they are most plentiful on her baby form, but they persist until shes in her teens, i would say (on here you cant see them after age 7, but thats just because i imagine they are mostly on her back). and i gave her a cute lil onsie that says a-deer-able! if you guys cant read it ^^

this outfit i made for her toddler design is actually an outfit ive used in the past! i wonder if yall know what drawing it was? its pretty much the same as it was there, i just added a stripe to the shirt. i felt like overalls are so reminiscent of childhood, i had to give at least one of her designs them! i also added a little mistletoe to the front pocket, to make it more christmas-esque. and i gave her some bandaids, just cause.

7 years old is one of the designs i really struggled on, and im still not happy with it. i dunno if ive said this yet, but i headcanon noelle to be trans, so at 7 is when i decided she started realizing it. so here i gave her long sleeves and pants, to show how shes more hidden now because shes unhappy with herself, if that makes any sense? i was also trying to make her look a bit like a nerd, with the button up and khakis, just because its funny. but yeah, ill probably end up changing this design at some point :P

11 years old was one of the easiest to do, considering how ive had her design for this age for awhile lol. one thing i did change was going from 2 red/white stripes to one, but ive done that before, so it wasnt something entirely new. i also gave her a smile and closed eyes, cause shes happy being a girl 🥰. other that that, its the same, so yeah, thats it for this part

okay, this next design is a fairly different looking one than all the rest, but i have my reasons! at this point in noelles live, dess has gone missing, so i wanted to show her being sad and stuff. i also gave her shoes and long sleeves because she probably goes out looking for dess when she can, hoping to find a lead 😭. but outside of in-story stuff, this outfit is based off of an old one i drew, but its fairly edited, so i wouldnt be surprised if no one recognizes it even if they have seen my old stuff. she has straight hair here, to show how unhappy she is (idk what it is about straight hair it just feels sad) and because i wanted to give her different hair varieties on this progression chart. i gave her antlers 2 prongs each at this point, because the way i see deer monsters, their antlers show their growth/aging, so youll see them getting bigger and having more prongs as the chart continues.

this outfit for 15 is another one i dont like. i tried to make it similar to her current outfit, but still pretty different. im not even sure what precisely i dont like about this outfit, it just doesnt feel that good. for this one i gave her leg warmers because i used to (and sometimes still do) draw her normal outfit with them. i gave her the curly hair she has as a callback to when i used to draw her hair like that! but yeah, ill probably end up redoing this one too

for 17, i just gave her the normal outfit, so it was easy ^^. in game i think shes 16, but close to turning 17, so i just went with 17 here to fit the +2 age pattern thing i had going on. i also gave her an extra horn prong than i normally give her, just to show age once again

finally, her adult design! i dont like this one either lol. i spent so long trying to think of what outfit to give her, but i couldnt come up with something i liked >.< so i just gave her something simple. i feel like once noelle graduates high school and probably goes to college she branches out more and tries things her mother never let her do, which is why i gave her an outfit like that, that has a crop top and a shorter skirt. also, yalls might recognize the hair style i gave her, i drew a potential adult noelle before and i gave her the same hair ^^

HOLY SHIT THEY ARE FROM EARTH ALEPH! That really explains the mysterious nature of their backstory up to now.

Would have loved to get some PoV's from some people who aren't Trickster but I'll live.

He's just such an asshole! Like I already knew he was but god DAMN did this arc remove any doubt.

Just the worst type of asshole that can be found in MOBA games (I say this as someone who played MOBA games for years). And then given superpowers. Ugh.

THE SIMURGH FUCKING HELL OH MY GOD I LOVE HER!!!!!!!!!

SHE IS MY FAVORITE ENDBRINGER AND ONE OF MY FAVORITE CHARACTERS EVEN IF SHE IS SUPER DUPER EVIL AND TERRIBLE! BUT SHE JUST SINGS IN EVERYONE'S HEADS AND THEY SEE THINGS THAT SHE WANTS THEM TO SEE AND SHE SEES THE FUTURE AND CREATES A CAUSE AND EFFECT PLAGUE BASICALLY AND I LOVE HER!!

Just the level of planning ahead she does, the number of moves ahead Simmy is playing. After the first few times she shows up they start quarantining where she attacks. Which ends up being exactly the right situation needed to push the Travelers to the choices she wanted them to make. Like, is quarantining even a counter to the Smurph or is it exactly what she wanted?

Sure precogs mess with precogs. That makes sense. But I don't know that it is as clear cut as Coil presented to Trickster. He implies two precogs just cancel each other out, but I assume it's more of a strength thing - a strong precog will cancel out a weak precog, but a weak precog will only make things a little fuzzier for a strong precog. So having Dinah would have helped against the Simurgh but I don't think it would be enough to just cancel out the Simurgh's power. Coil and Tattletale would probably also help. But I'm not convinced the last few months in Brockton Bay hasn't been more or less what Simmy wanted to happen.

Cody is the only person here that is probably more of an asshole than Krouse. Just could not get over the fact that Noelle didn't want to date him. Unbearably entitled dick. Possibly dead now, if Accord got his way. But very possibly not. Won't be surprised if he shows up again.

Cody's power is fun. I think it's the first "time travel" power I've seen. I mean Clockblocker does time freezing which is basically the same category but still, curious to see if we get any more level of time travel than this.

Marissa needs someone to make her some cookies and give her a place to hang out that isn't the house her mom lives in. I mean, I guess the current situation handles that but not how I meant.

I already liked Jess and now I like her even more. She's a cape geek! Wonderful.

Luke is interesting cause he was the only person besides Noelle who was close to Krouse at the start, but he's the first (well, aside from Cody I guess) to leave him. Really went through a character arc. Also Krouse lists Luke's "individual tragedy" as "not getting to fly" which is hysterical.

Oliver is a trans girl. Headcanon 100% established. It just fits so well. She just needs to find herself! And once she does and realizes what she actually wants to look like her power will get her there and won't need to keep adjusting! Right now Oliver's power is doing performative masculinity for them.

Noelle has had a bad time. God damn. She was having a bad time before everything happened and now she's having a very bad time. Damn. I had some guesses about her correct. Figured she was like, monstrous bottom half and normal top half. And figured touching her was bad. But I didn't foresee "touching her creates mutated evil clones". I'm sure that won't be a major problem in the next arc or two. I'm sure there won't be evil mutated clones of a bunch of capes to deal with . . .

I had long figured Travelers had Cauldron powers. It just fit with their power levels and such. I had also figured whatever Noelle's condition was, it was related to having a Cauldron power. I had a lot of guesses. None of them were "only drinks half a vial". For some reason I thought everyone would be too smart to do THAT! (I have no idea why I thought that.)

Current guess is Noelle is sort of in a never ending "trigger" event. Her power is constantly in the "building and gathering" phase and is not reaching the "lock things down" phase that normally happens (Bonesaw talked about this). Definitely a lot of other things it could be, this is just the best fit I've found so far.

This goes for Oliver too, which is why their power keeps changing how they look. Oliver just got lucky and has much less significant troubles compared to Noelle.

Got to see lots of new Case 53's. That was fun.

I expect to see more of Accord in the future. Just cause like, he gets smarter the more complex the problem. And the world is supposedly going to end due to (I think) the actions of higher dimensional entities. That is a very complex problem. And at the same time, he seems like the kind of person that might see "billions die" as a good way to reduce chaos. To simplify the world. Not saying that is what he will do, just that it seems a shame to not bring him up again.

I knew 40 people had died due to actions of the Travelers. I did not know Noelle had eaten them all! Because she tried to starve herself. I can see why it's important to keep her well fed. And why it's going to be an issue that there is no longer someone providing her with thousands of dollars of meat a week. No waste though, she has a very efficient digestive system.

The ending, with Trickster just staring at the bloodstain left behind by Coil's body while Genesis stares out at the ocean ... very good. I mean, really sucks for them, but it was a very evocative arc ending.

I wonder who won the Ransack tournament? One team disconnected because the building they were in disappeared into a space hole. I wonder what the rules are for that?

I had to really think on this one and I enjoyed writing this out.

1. I live for Bisexual Finral he just loves pointing out how pretty all the ladies AND men around him are and it’s totally fruity. I feel like what starts as a feeling of envy toward pretty men who get attention from ladies becomes a genuine attraction toward those men as well.

2. Magna being gay and just being generally attracted to anyone with strength and “manliness”. Like it always starts with admiration and it eventually becomes a crush (has the “I wanna be you” crush vibes)

3. I wanna say pan Yami is a vibe but he just needs someone who matches his freak

4. Pan Asta! Bro is full of love and admiration and could be with anyone really. I think he would have no preferences for people based on any physical traits or identity.

5. Similarly to Magna I think Leopold is attracted to masculine qualities. I headcanon him as gay and fully believe he channels crushes into rivalries so he doesn’t actually get that it’s a crush at all.

6. Panromantic Rill who finds crushes through his muses. If you inspire him that’s all he needs nothing else matters to build an attraction to a person (also asexual) it just feels like the vibe

7. Bisexual Vanessa. Without much of a preference towards one over another

8. Aro/Ace Klaus who is the king of the most affectionate platonic friendships

9. Gay Langris. Has a very unhealthy relationship with himself and struggles with romantic attraction. The responses to him when he was younger surrounding the marriage arrangements caused a sort of distaste for women romantically

Ok, going to add to the "Trans Noelle antlers" discourse.

First, disclaimer this is all just for fun and stuff not telling you that Noelle is or is not trans, just had some thoughts after thinking what causes antlers to grow.

Let's go through the debate cycle again.

"Noelle is trans because she has antlers." "Noelle is a reindeer and both male and female reindeer have antlers." "Male and Female reindeer loose their antlers at different times"

I want to add another step to that cycle.

"Would HRT affect when Noelle sheds her antlers?"

From this paper, testosterone lowers when male reindeer are about to lose their antlers, but those that are castrated (and thus dont have any T in their system) actually keep their antlers over the winter in the long run. The study also shows that hormones like estradiol are likely what lets female reindeer keep their antlers into spring.

Now this can mean many things for Noelle. If Noelle is on HRT, she would likely have a similar Antler cycle to IRL female reindeers if she like cycled her hormones or something.

(Basically similar to how some folks try and change their hormone doses to match a menstrual cycle, except for Noelle this would be a yearly cycle and not monthly.)

Or, maybe Noelle doesn't cycle her HRT, and in that case idk what would happen. Maybe she'd lose her antlers later then male reindeer, but earlier then female ones. Maybe if its high enough it would keep her antlers for longer, or prevent them from shedding or something? Idk I just skimmed the article and I feel like I'm already doing to much to research a lesbian deer girl from a video game.

Even if Noelle was on puberty blockers, then she'd at least keep her antlers for the winter, like male reindeer without testosterone.

(Also, if Noelle was a deer and not a reindeer, then hormones/blockers would likely prevent her antlers to grow in the first-place once they've been shed.)

I have only just learned (in April) that this is inaccurate for deer. If Noelle was a deer and started blockers before growing antlers, the above is correct. If she started blockers after developing antlers, she'd still grow antlers, it's just they wouldn't leave the velvet stage and wouldn't naturally shed.

I have no clue what HRT would do though because I don't think scientists have injected male deer with estrogen. (COME ON SCIENTISTS DO IT FOR SCIENCE!)

Now I guess there's one more question, if Noelle is trans, would she be able to access HRT or puberty blockers?

Well, Rudy at least supports her identity, so he likely wouldn't have any problem with Noelle medically transitioning.

If Mayor Holiday was transphobic, and had the authority to keep Noelle from gender affirming care like Hormones or blockers, you would think she'd also put her hoof down on her daughter presenting femme too. (and Rudy might have something to say if his transphobic wife tried to prevent his daughter from transitioning.)

Money likely wouldn't be an issue seeing as Noelle's mom's the mayor, (and has been for awhile) and even then the large ornate gate at their house makes me think that Holiday's are on the richer side.

Only way I could see Noelle being trans and not on Hormones or Blockers is either if she for some reason didn't want them, or if Hometown is located in some transphobic country or municipality that banned trans-kids from accessing gender affirming care, and the latter honestly seems a little too depressingly real for a Toby Fox game.

Now, dispute all this arguing and stuff I think there's one factor we're ignoring here; we're assuming that reindeer monster biology and IRL reindeer biology are analogous.

We don't know how monster reindeer antlers work. Maybe all reindeer monsters have them, but they don't shed them so we cant use antlers to determine if Noelle is trans. Maybe AMAB reindeer monsters grow antlers, their permanent, and Noelle got hers before medically transitioning meaning she'd need like "antler reduction surgery" or something to remove them when she's older.

All the above theorizing means is that if Noelle has a similar antler cycle to IRL female reindeer, it doesn't mean she's cis because HRT can affect that.

There's no way to confirm if Noelle is or is not trans unless like more concrete evidence shows up in later chapters, like estradiol tablets in Noelle's room or something.

The most we've got is unused sprites for Noelle's room in queen's mansion that show pill bottles (Shown earlier in this post). This is still not enough as we don't know what these pill bottles are. They could be anything from anti-depressants to medicine for Rudy! (also the fact the sprites we're never used.)

TL;DR, there's no way to tell if Noelle's trans or cis, and trying to track when her antlers shed is futile as HRT would likely effect that.

I'm still going to pretend she's trans though as I love the headcanon for no particular reason. (spoiler alert, the reason is I'm trans!)

in this au (and as i write ralsei in my canon always lol) the biggest thing that puts pressure on ralsei's life is the prophecy--it says a human, a monster, and a prince from the dark, and because it is a prophecy, and it is fate, is HAS to be true, and ralsei, as a darkner, a group of people who literally exist below the lightners, is charged with bringing this prophecy into fruition. she has spent her entire life ALONE, with nothing but this prophecy for comfort, saying that one day, ONE DAY, she'll get through this and she'll have friends. but yknow, that weighs on a person! its heavy and terrible and she has contorted herself to fit what fate tells her she must be.

and then for noelle, the big thing putting pressure on her? her dead siblings (dess and kris. kris isnt technically her sibling but yknow for ease of language thats what i use. also we know they arent dead but noelle and the rest dont). with their deaths means noelle is now the baby of the family, a family that is shaped by this great gaping grief noelle cannot comprehend, because when dess and kris died she was young enough she barely remembers them beyond like, maybe half-formed memories but she isnt sure if those are real or just what people have told her. shes expected to be grieving her dead siblings but really she just sort of. hates them a little bit. for going off and dying and now her mom and toriel are super overprotective of her, and she knows its her fault asriel never left to go to college and hasnt even left hometown, and its just. its rough.

so both noelle and ralsei have these Huge things that have defined their lives that neither of them want, but. too bad! WHICH LEADS TO EVEN MORE PARALLELS. slash foils lol.

because when it comes to the prophecy? noelle isnt supposed to be in it!!! while this au is sort of a roleswap in that noelle takes kris's place its not a roleswap in Any Other Way, which means, yeah, the prophecy is still supposed to be a human. and noelle, uh, isnt that! but she goes around and helps close dark worlds and is part of the delta warriors anyways, which is, for ralsei, this like, really scary point.

cause ralsei? adores noelle!! thats her best friend!!! ralsei doesnt know if she has a crush on noelle or wants to be noelle! noelle just does what she WANTS. she bucks against the pressures her family puts on her. she dives into the dark despite the fact that this world was never made for her. shes TRANS. shes a GIRL, and she can just DO THAT, and ralsei looks at her, and just. wants. in every sense of the word.

because noelle has all these things put on her like ralsei does--but noelle gets to slip out of them. noelle gets to be a person.

and ralsei, non-person, darkner: she doesnt.

Ever after high AU info dump

Well with 39,1% the Ever after high au won the poll. It shouldn't surprise me as much as it did honestly.

While it's already a bit further than it's last concept it's not even close to being done, mainly due to me concentrating on other AUs. But to fill enough space and give you alot knowledge I give you an entire run down of what me and my friend, @ccaramel-candy have so far! I'm not exactly good with explaining what I want to say/ what ideas I have but I try my best.

Warning stuff:

One thing I want to get out of the bat is that the fairytales changed to make it more comfortable and less confusing. And so that everyone gets it and I don't get any complains: This is purely a Noco story. If you don't like the ship pls carry on!

Now with that out of the way let's get started:

This Au plays like ever after high in a school for fairy tale children. But instead of following Snow whites daughter, we follow this Aus Sleeping beauty's child Noelle (Noah in this AU is Trans ftm and is refereed at the beginning as Noelle (She/ her) and later into the Story as Noah (He/ Him). Just so you don't get confused) and how she handles school in general. Sounds easy but it isn't when everytime someone annoys you with something, be it your potential future prince charming, your roommate who has yet another problem or the school erupts into chaos because someone is making a problem. And all Noelle wants is being left alone to read. And the school year has just started!!!

General Info:

-The main character here is Noah and Cody as sleeping beauty and their prince charming (So it's a Noco focused story)

-Pretty much everyone is from Total drama or has a connection to Total drama (like OCs) Tho there are still some thoughts and planning to be made

-While everyone has their own rooms and roommates in their dorms the rules that are binded to it are a bit.... well they aren't clear to anyone in school.

-the school has somewhat a mind of it's own. It's not clear however if someone used magic on it or if it was always "alive".

-while the conflict between royals and rebels was clearer in the original ever after high, it only starts to get a real story point later on in this AU. But the conflict does start at the beginning already but more of a sub plot!

-Fairytales are definetly rewritten from their original source material for various reasons, but there are also changes due to other characters actions!

There aren't many yet which might be because I don't think of this AU as much as I should to give everyone a proper fairytale role but this is who I have so far:

The relationships with each other hopefully will be a big plotpoint how I intend to have it. This could also be confusing in some areas which either cause lack of context/ not much context or because I try to over explain this but I try my best!

Noelle:

While Noelle is the main protagonist, there aren't currently many relationships other than a few people. Not because I have no idea but because she wants to be left alone and read her books. However there are definetly 2 main people that are consistent:

-Cody the more overconfident prince charming, already setting his eyes on noelle as his destiny. He tries to get her to know her more so that later on their destiny doesn't come off as weird when cody has to kiss her awake.

-and Edith who is her current roommate, who brings a few problems pests pets to the table. Not exactly a thing allowed in school or the dorms but Noelle keeps quiet for her mainly cause it doesn't concern her (and a few petting sessions from time to time are actually nice).

Then there are also some minor ones, like Izzy who just wants her to join the crazy tea party's. Mike or rather specific Svetlana who drops by every 2 weeks to ask for a lipgloss both her and Edith share (Noelle is still confused why). Mimi also hangsout sometimes but more when Edith is with her. Then there is Owen. Defiantly somewhat friends but interact more in cooking class than exactly outside.

(I don't want to make this post all too long so I keep the relationship mainly to Noelle for now! I might make a seperate post for the rest I have)

I'm not mad; not at all. I don't feel betrayed, or disappointed, or sad, or anything. It wasn't you. The Player was telling you to do all that stuff. You were pressured into it, threatened with death, and I don't blame you. Ice and snow might sting now - it'll probably sting forever. But it's not your fault. It's that dumb player's, that's who.

Y'know when i joked about how gamers never die, they respawn? For real, i think it's true. I didn't die! (okay, i did, but) I'm alive now! I just... respawned in a different place, is all.

Noelle and Crew-Ra fucked up.

Look what Noelle & Crew-Ra said on the stream was totally not okay and ignorant asf. And those effected; specifically Black POC, LGBTQ folk; specifically Lesibian and Trans Folk, and Neurodivergent folk; specifically those on Spectrum absolutely have every right to be upset and hurt by Crew-Ra.

But one thing people need to stop doing with creators it putting them on a god level pedestal. Show creators and runners are people. Just like you, just like me. They are flawed individuals and not perfect and will make mistakes. We all fuck up, say things we shouldn't, think or believe problematic things at one point or another in life. And if you say you never have, that's bullshit and you're a goddamn liar. No one is perfect, absolutely no one.

As a Queer Black girl on the spectrum, Noelles comments hurt me. Yes, her representation is not the pinnacle of perfection. Yes, I think she needs to do better from here on out. But all representation, even good representation will be flawed no matter who makes it. Period. It's okay to hold our content makers to a standard, but we also need to hold them to a standard that is fair and achievable.

Perfection is not.

We must constantly strive to be better and do better. In order for those things to happen; we need to allow the creators we love who are trying their best to give us the best representation they can to, make mistakes and learn from them, and grow and do better. Crucifying them and cancelling them doesn't fucking do that.

Give her and the rest of the crew a chance to learn, apologize and be better.

Noelles apology was sincere, and one of the most sincere apologies I have seen a creator give in awhile. The whole point of accountability and educating others is so that they can learn, grow, and be better people. We need to give them the chance to do that, to own their fuck ups and do their best to make up for this mistakes and be better.

And imma be honest asf, and if this gets me hated on, oh fucking well (Especially if you aren't from the effected groups, shut the fuck up. You don't get a say in this. Legit your opinion on how people from said marginalized groups feel frankly, doesn't fucking matter. RE: Hordak and Representation

During a recent stream, a few things happened. This post compiles the events and sets the record straight on a few misunderstandings. I can’t comment on the racism, or the use of the d-slur (even though, as that post points, out, it was part of the title of another podcast that the host of the podcast was promoting, whose creators presumably were okay with the name of the podcast being read in full). But I can talk about Hordak.

Hordak’s disability is presented in canon as a genetic defect that took time to fully materialize and start tearing his body apart. Before that he was a respected general in Horde Prime’s army, but was cast out due to his “imperfection.” This directly motivates nearly every action Hordak takes to try and prove himself worthy by the standards of the one who created him.

Now here’s the part where I tell you I have Type-1 Diabetes.

Diabetes is a degenerative autoimmune disorder in which the pancreas stops producing insulin, the chemical which helps the body process sugar. It’s very often genetic, and my family history with it dates at least as far back as my maternal grandfather. The effects of this disorder can absolutely ravage the body. It ate the muscle tissue in my legs to the point where I could barely walk or even stand up straight, and the nerve damage in my feet and legs is so bad I literally couldn’t fall asleep during the worst of it. It can also cause vision loss, and in extreme cases it can necessitate limb amputation. I qualify for accomodations under the Americans With Disabilities Act, and while Hordak and I are nothing alike, I know how it feels to have your body betray you.

But is he good disabled representation? It depends. I don’t feel represented by him, but what started this whole kerfuffle is that a fan wrote in and said that they thought he was good representation. Noelle neither confirmed nor denied whether this was the intention and instead talked about his development in very general terms. She’s been very hesitant to claim any sort of representation that she doesn’t personally have life experience with, as evidenced by how she said she would have cast a trans voice actor if they’d intended for Bow to be trans from the beginning (even though she loves the headcanon), and that the crew headcanoned Catra as latina, but because it’s not addressed in the show itself it didn’t feel right to claim that.

There is no escaping the fact that Hordak’s disability--his body literally falling apart as a result of a genetic time bomb--is directly linked to the actions he takes to prove that he is “not a failure.” This is complicated. My diabetes manifested at a time in my life when I was already confident in myself and who I am, and I don’t feel like it makes me any less of a person. I’m more annoyed by it than anything. But part of the standard battery of questions my doctor asked me is if the diagnosis made me feel depressed or worthless, because that is a common reaction. It’s perfectly natural for someone to feel the way Hordak does about what happened to him, especially considering the ideology he was born into.

But uh... that doesn’t mean he had to become a colonizer. He chose that. Yes, on some level he was just regurgitating the ideology he’d literally been programmed with, but he had a fresh start in a place where he never had to deal with Horde Prime again. The reason he tried to conquer the place is because he’d already been drinking the Kool-Aid so enthusiastically that he wanted to do everything in his power to get back to where he was.

Even when he betrays Prime in the finale, his motivations are not altruistic. He cares about Entrapta specifically, but his goal is really just to take over, to conquer, to keep spreading Horde Prime’s imperialist bullshit virus of an ideology because it’s all he fucking knows. He just wants to keep his pal alive so she can, idk, rule at his side or something. It’s not until after Adora cleanses him that he remembers a time when he wasn’t quite as much of a bastard.

And as much as I’d like to say that his disability has nothing to do with that... it does. It set him down that path. He grew more and more resentful because of it. And while that’s certainly a realistic reaction (I wasn’t exactly thrilled when I got diagnosed), it’s still not a good look for the show because it’s some of the only disabled rep in the whole series. Entrapta does encourage him to think of his imperfections as beautiful, and is an example of a character who deals positively with her disability, but as I discussed above, he doesn’t actually develop into a better person because of this. It takes the closest thing this show ever gets to a deus ex machina for him to even have an epiphany.

So idk. I definitely think this specific part of the stream was taken out of context and blown out of proportion, but I also don’t feel like Hordak is good representation. That may just be me, but I have a feeling it’s not.

Since Deltarune chapter 2 I decided to expand on that Deltarune AU that crosses over with Fallenswap, since their designs (except for Jevil, Seam and Frisk) got updated to look more like the terror realm color scheme, but Jevil and Seam just look exactly the same as they did in the last post.

Sw!Fallenswap x Deltarune is a glitched reset done by Chara in a alternate genocide route where she doesn't commit suicide from the belief that she caused the mass destruction of the underground and Toriel's grief over Sans, so in an attempt to undo Sans' death and Andrew's genocide under Player's control, Chara reset but since Andrew was now the playable character and Sans manipulated the game files since then, it glitched out and caused an alternate timeline where The Humans surrendered to the supernatural order. More infomation about changes under the Character list (though Noelle and Berdly are not here)

Warren (Anagram of Andrew minus the D and has an extra R)

Text: I held them in my hands lovingly, the pictures remind me of my dreams.

Warren takes Kris' place, like Kris they are a combination of 2 Characters, with Warren this is Chara and Andrew, it's confusing what their gender is biologically, since Chara is female and Andrew is Male, Warren is likely genderqueer wheither they are trans, bigender or Genderfluid is unknown.

They use the same weapon as Andrew, an alternate version of the enchanted book. They love tarot cards but instead of using them for their intended purpose, they play with them like dolls and say they remind them of their dreams. This is why multiple Night Realmlanders (Terror Realm x Dark world) are inspired off of tarot cards.

Terson Mik (Dark Realm M.K)

Terson is based off of Warren's adoptive brother M.K, though unlike M.K in Fallen!Delta, Terson is still 11.

Terson is down-to-earth, level headed but kinda pessimistic, he leads the gang to stop his sister from fully taking over the Dark Realm.

Lancer

He is Warren's goofy and clumsy class mate who woke up late to school and also broke all the chalk when trying to get it for Ms. Undyne. He unknownly gets on his teacher's nerves, but purposefully tries to get on Jevil's nerves to no avial.

Despite acting goofy and sometimes rude and annoying, he is actually depressed and has anxiety for unknown reasons.

This could be referring to his easter egg counterpart in SW!Fallenswap as they seem to possess tramua after what happened to the village and explaining in a cutscene what the "Black Knights" did and that they took his friend, the friend, though unnamed, is presumably Susie.

Susie

Susie is rough and Psychotic being who is known as one of "The Reapers", she is in-universe based off of a reptilian monster tarot card, she holds a diamond shaped scythe and sports a diamond card color scheme. She is the underling of The Dark Angel.

She becomes an ally after being made aware that she wasn't doing the right thing and that she gets to make friends if she joins them.

In Sw!Fallenswap a version of her does exist as an easter egg, but is very different in personality seemingly more timid and shy but keep in mind that she was a captive during a Hotlands village raid, parents presumably murdered and thrown in a jail cell and probably absolutely tramuatized by the time Sans actually lets her out before ending the game.

The Dark Angel

The Dark Angel is in-universe based off of Warren's adoptive sister, Frisk. and a Fallen Angel tarot card because the picture kinda looks like her. She is an young adult.

She is exactly the same as Fallen Frisk in personality, sadistic behavior, manipulative, and insanely childish, in chapter 2 she has a swing instead of a hamsterwheel, and her cage is basically a playground.

She is taking over the Dark Realm and uses the souls of the Dark King and The Princess in her attacks.

It's possible her real name in this AU is Kris, but she is only refered to "Angel" but this was only by one character.

Jevil

He is a librarian with a very good nature, and is in-universe based off a imp tarot card that got lost in the library.

Jevil is one of the most caring characters and very intelligent though not a super genius. He likes to give candy to the kids in the candy bowel but is afraid to limit the candy consumption in chapter 2 because he doesn't want to make the children upset, mainly Susie.

He is not childish nor innocent but he does have an upbeat nature and willing to help out the gang all he can, except getting the key from him, to unlock Seam, a insane character based off a old stuff animal with ketchup stains.

Dark King and the Princess.

Though not as big of characters, they are notable as the Dark King is very much posseses a resemblance of to Sans and is an in-universe warrior skeleton tarot card. Also their behavior and personality is different than Fallen! Sans' and very possible to be just the manifestation of what both Andrew and Chara thought of Sans, (Scary, intimating, overly protective, grumpy, mature, extremely intelligent, heroic, introverted and brave)

The Princess is the closest thing we have to this version of Sariel, she is supposed to be a Calopus tarot card and most likely a creation of a remindent memory of Sariel from the past timeline. Her appearance is not the exact same to Fallen!Sariel nor Deltarune!Sariel as this could be that the memories of her are not 100% clear, this is supported by the fact her name is always glitched gibberish when mentioned.

Dark King, like Sans in Sw!Fallenswap is the biological father of Sariel and the step-Father to Frisk and MK, he is the biological father of The Princess and the step-Father to Angel and Terson.

The glitched reset resulted in Making Toriel still the princess and Jazzmine still the current ruler, Asgore and Toriel still break off their marriage but this was because Asgore wanted to live a normal life not because of Toriel's poor judgement, but is still because, though were very close friends, had little romantic interest in eachother, and Asgore eventually adopts Frisk, MK and Warren. Also Temmie is still a toy and MK aswell as Frisk are both young adults.

Sans joining the military instead of the guard but still acts/acted like the guardian to Alphys, (a cheerful police officer who Sans missed her graduation from the police academy since Sans was actively deployed) Undyne, (pretty much the same personality wise to normal Undyne but with the monster version of bipolar disorder, and is a teacher who dislikes Lancer for being.. Lancer) and Napstabot (a musician and like his orginal Fallen self the long term boyfriend of Shyren) . Sans is also fully aware of his past life and misses Toriel and Sariel greatly, due to this he does moarn Sariel in private and considers her dead, but his brother doesn't change much except mild changes in appearance, Papyrus is still a cartoonist for the newspaper.

All Characters who have died are still alive, Myrtle, Grandpa Semi, Gaster and River are mentioned, they live similar lives to their originals, Wingding operates a farrie boat, Prof. J.A River is a well-known scientist and college professor, Semi's life is exactly the same, he is the co-ruler of the Dreammurr dynasty and is the law keeper, second in command of the royal military, diplomat, representative, and is responsible for other duties. Myrtle is not retired, she is the leader of the royal army under The Queen and Semi.

So I’ve heard differing arguments relating to it, ranging from “Well, if we shun content created by this person and/or everyone who’s done anything problematic, that’s a slippery slope that’ll lead to us being unable to enjoy anything” to “It doesn’t matter if you can separate the author from their creation to an extent, there’s ultimately other content to be consumed, & shunning the work of the problematic author in order to deny them or their progeny traffic is more important than salvaging

2/4 said author’s work.” Pablo Neruda, Yukio Mishima, & JK Rowling are authors that come to mind in these discussions. (For example, I’ve seen several SPOP edits ft. Pablo Neruda’s love poetry, & when his problematic history was explained to one creator, they cited death of the author.) Another argument against the concept, or rather, against how the concept is often applied, that I see is that people cite it in order to uncritically consume whatever they want.

3/4 Yet others say that people who say this often take the concept too far, to the point where no one can enjoy anything, ever, unless they’re obsessively analyzing every last detail of something for potential problematic tropes or other problematic content. I just don’t know where I fall, because I both agree and disagree with various parts of these stances, but see how all could be taken too far and used poorly, if that’s a sensible way of wording it. But I don’t know what dictates “too

death of the author is such an interesting concept, purely bc how it was MEANT to be used and how it has come to be used are so different. for transparency, death of the author is a lens of examining a piece of work which states that the author’s original intent does not matter, that the metatextual elements of a work do not have any bearing on what is actually present in the text.

to use an example, fans of spop will likely know that adora and catra are at least somewhat inspired by noelle stevenson’s own relationship. since we know this, we can see this in the text. the more you know about noelle and molly, the more you can see what parts of their relationship influenced those characters. we don’t have to guess that catradora is meant to be viewed in a positive light - we’re told by the showrunner itself it should be. if we were to apply death of the author, though, we would ignore this. it is not written explicitly in the text, and is therefore metatextual. we can still come to the same conclusion based on information within the show itself, but we would not use that “word of god” type of information.

and you can do this with basically anything. an artist said their song is about romantic love, but you see it as platonic love? claim death of the author! once it’s out in the world, it’s up to the audience to decide what a piece means.

now, here’s where it gets tricky: you can’t just ignore bigotry in a piece, even if you are applying death of the author. let’s look at hp lovecraft for this one. anyone with even passing knowledge of lovecraftian horror will know that the main element of it is fear of the unknown. sure, there’s many ways you can interpret that within the text! but fact of the matter is that lovecraft was a horrible xenophobic racist. and knowing that, it becomes very hard to separate the “fear of the unknown” in lovecraft’s work from real world xenophobia. you can still claim that within the text you interpret it differently, sure. but you can’t go so far as to pretend the intent isn’t there. the author’s interpretation doesn’t have to be yours, but it’s impossible to separate the author’s worldview from the text - it’s baked in.

okay, so, interpret however you want, but acknowledge prejudice. easy enough. until we get to the elephant in the room, joanne rowling herself. now, we know she has horrible ideas baked into her text. but that doesn’t necessarily mean we throw it all away, right? after all, people still love lovecraft’s work, and he was horrible. there’s an entire horror genre coined after the man. if we don’t throw lovecraft away, why throw joanne away? and the big difference there is that...joanne is alive. and wealthy. with friends in high places. and a large public following. even when he was alive, lovecraft didn’t exactly have millions of followers on twitter. pablo neruda and yukio mishima were not good people, but again, also dead and not with the same level of power. meanwhile joanne is actively using her wealth and following to influence british lawmakers.

and here’s where people lose death of the author. bc yes, you can still examine harry potter however you want. you can still say the books were an influence or that they meant something to you. but you cannot use “death of the author” to substitute an answer to a moral dilemma. and the moral dilemma is simply that supporting joanne, be it by word of mouth or monetarily, is supporting her ability to spread transphobia. this is why we see a more active push than usual to stop consuming hp and related rowling works. the driving force is not just “thing bad”, but the active harm joanne is causing to trans people in the uk.

so, what does that all mean? basically, use death of the author responsibly. you don’t have to toss out every single problematic work ever penned. if we did that, we wouldn’t have much left, and the foundations upon which modern media were built would be gone. but, you also can’t say that you don’t have to acknowledge biases and prejudice in media. bc you still do. there’s not a filmmaker in hollywood who can claim they’re not using some amount of technique pioneered by alfred hitchcock, but we also can’t pretend like “psycho” didn’t have transphobic undertones. it’s possible to both appreciate “psycho” for its importance to film history AND acknowledge those problematic elements without beating them to death.

basically, if you’re thinking of applying death of the author, you need to ask yourself two questions:

-am i using this to analyze the work, or am i trying to make myself feel better? -is my consumption of this work allowing the creator to cause harm?

if you’re trying to make yourself feel better, you don’t need death of the author; being aware of the problems within the work is sufficient. and if your answer to the second question is “yes”, that’s when you need to wonder if your consumption of said work is really more important than the harm you may be inadvertently causing.

tldr: death of the author is a great tool to analyze media, but all too often gets used as an answer to a moral dilemma when that was never its intended purpose. you can invoke death of the author without ignoring problematic elements of a work, you don’t have to self-flagellate over said problematic elements, but be aware of if your consumption of a work causes active harm to people.
