Our latest fic for Senior Sweethearts features an ancient (immortal) character, Perenelle Flamel! You may recognize her from Philosopher's Stone! @artemisia-black is treating us to a glimpse into the implications of what it means to live forever in this fic. Snippet and link below!
What does time mean when one lives forever? What does anything mean when one has endured the fall of multiple civilisations and seen great men wither in their old age?
What is the value of one's memories when one has too many of them?
Each jumbled together in her mind. 
Surely, one lifetime is not enough if a person's soul is the universe attempting to know itself. Yet after a thousand, it becomes mired in the dust of the lives already lived.
After millennia, she could only remember fragments of her first life.
Flashes of feelings and disjointed images: the feel of honey on her tongue as her mother spooned it from a terracotta urn, the squish of freshly pressed olives beneath her feet, and the roughness of her linen stola against her sun-warmed skin.

In case you were unaware: yes, Nicolas Flamel was a real man, a French bookseller who died in 1418. He is not just a character in Harry Potter. Sometime (about two hundred years) after his death, however, because of his generosity, and because people love cool stories, legends popped up that he was actually an alchemist who, after getting a hold of an old alchemy book, created the Philosopher's Stone, and with it he both became incredibly wealthy and learned how to live forever.

We don't actually have any evidence that he suddenly became incredibly wealthy, though he was certainly generous with the money he had, donating it to different causes and institutions around the city of Paris. People claim to have seen him, or that his tomb is empty...
Look, that's all unlikely. But! He was a real person, and his house is still there in Paris to this day! And you can visit it! It's not a museum, though, it's a restaurant: the Auberge Nicolas Flamel.

I mean, Flamel is already pretty much magi-coded, why not take it one step further? PRIMO MATERIA

The witch of the philosopher's stone, its nature is biological immortality. It has the ability to manipulate the chemical structure of anything from metal to human flesh, and change it to whatever it pleases. Its apparent intelligence fluctuates from of a wise genius to only a clingy baby.
The doppel of biological immortality, its form is a philosopher's stone.
Each of its segments are in the shape of one of the five alchemical polygon going in numerical order, with the icosahedron containing the witch, which has aged so far backwards from the philosopher's stone's magic, its now a fetus, using its treasured stone as a womb.
I'd imagine if Flamel was a magi (and therefore magireco unit), he'd have a trio unit with Pernelle (with Torte as the third wheel), and combine with Hermes Trismegistus and Torte's doppel.

Why had no one made the correlation that Nicolas Flamel could very well be merlin? Like the man creates a stone to live forever! More likely he was stuck immortal and was tired of creating fake aliases while he wanted for Arthur's return. And it's very well possible that Harry was a reincarnation of Arthur, as the "chosen one set to unite the kingdom" and conveniently Flamel dies when Harry finally takes his place as the chosen one.
