Nico's identity as a rogue demigod is so important to me. like yeah he has board at both the camps but that's kind of the thing, isn't it? he likes to keep in-the-know about everything, and he explicitly repeatedly references how he doesn't feel like he completely belongs at either camp. he didn't spend three years living on his own to not know anything about other rogue demigods and the networks they have, and he's gotta have comradery with all these other demigods who probably feel the same way as him. if anything him having unique connections to the camps that other rogues don't have access to is probably really helpful to him in keeping track of what's going on and being able to help people out. There's no way he doesn't keep up with like Eurytion at Triple G Ranch and offer to do some chores around there or dogsit Orthrus sometimes, or maybe he knows a rogue who knows a rogue who knows a rogue who can do such and such a task for a good payment of nectar and ambrosia. things like that!

"you're ethan nakamura's mother" him addressing nemesis as ethan's mother first makes me think that he was a lot more familiar with ethan than the books implied. you have ten/eleven year old nico trying to repress all signs of silliness and then he sees this kid who has an eyepatch and the pirate obsession kicks in and he just has to ask.

some chapter thoughts and rambles under the cut

- We're so soo close to egghead's closure woah.

Next week has an anniversary spread so the chapter should be stacked. Throwing in an easy prediction: Emet will launch an attack that'll completely immobilize the gorosei, forcing them to retreat so Luffy and team can smoothly escape without the Elders chasing their tail. Basically, I think SHs escape within next chapter or the one after. Law update soon 😤

-Regarding D lore, I find it interesting that there are at least three D's who served the government. Recruiting them or purging them, both might've been a result of the government acknowledging their potential to upturn the world. Maybe Monkey family served the navy for generations even before Garp, and Saul had giant genes which gave the govt incentive to keep him on their side. The D's who defy the government never bothered to hide their identity, like Xebec, Teach, or Roger. Their families might've faced discrimination too, for all we know, Teach had a rough time growing up

- I wonder what happened to Portgas bloodline, were most of them already annihilated by the time Rogue met Roger? Did Rogue's resilience come from a difficult childhood? What happened to Gol family, and who gave Roger his hat? At this point, I'm pretty sure Roger will have his own spinoff at some point.

-Agree with everyone who speculates that Robin might be D. Hell maybe she is already by association, similar to Sabo.

-Once again, the official translation did a better job. "what does he mean, Gol D.?" was better than "did he just say Gol D.?", Clau D. was also more Oda-like choice of word, better explained by Artur in his tweet thread.

-I wonder if Toei will give Emet a child-like voice? Similar to Alphonse, maybe?

-There's a Sulong Bepo vivre card on Sept 4th and this week's jump featured a page to promote it! Maybe I'll make a separate post on that one..

This is my rogue Nico (please ignore the patchy hair - Diablo on PS4 does not render short hair or stubble well at all 😭)

This is the main armor set he uses now while traveling around Sanctuary. (Gotta hide his face since Prava and the Church are now hunting him)

Or this one when he's hunting people for the Tree of Whispers

I'm still developing his backstory but I have some notes:

He was born in Westmarch, years after the events of RoS and the land is still a lawless hellscape

His parents were killed and he would have died too if he had not been taken in by a nomadic druid tribe

(This is bc i love making connections between my characters, so I made my druid Kashira is his adopted sister)

He was very sickly as a child and only survived due to the druids caring for him and not giving up on him

(this is part of why he loathes Elias's and Lilith's whole 'the weak must perish and only only the strong survive for the coming battles against Hell')

He followed Kashira across the sea to support her in her quest to cleanse Túl Dúlra. While she worked with the local druids, he traveled around offering his services as a mercenary for hire. That's when he ended up in Nevesk and the whole 'blood of Lilith' thing happened.

I like to imagine he met Lorath before the events in game, and that the YouTube short videos where Lorath narrates the history of Diablo lore to a wandering stranger are their initial conversations. (To note - Nico is not a scholar but he was instantly fascinated by this old man and his sexy voice and made a point to return there to speak with him again)

His nickname when he was growing up was 'little wolf' and he's always loved wolves as a result. He's got mixed feelings now due to Mephisto

He learned how to fight with swords/daggers by a member of the tribe. (She wasn't a druid herself but married to one) Nico used to wonder if she used to be a member of the Sisterhood of the Sightless Eye but she never admitted one way or the other

(this is my HC since I use Inner Sight talent 100% of the time but he can't be an actual sister)

one of my favorite concepts re: Camp Jupiter Classified is Reyna and Frank just telling the story of what happened to the rest of the Argo II crew, like "Oh yeah so there was this daughter of Mefitis who got exiled like 20 years ago cause she uncontrollably smelt bad due to her powers and nobody could stand her, and so in revenge she tried to destroy camp but we sent the newest legionnaire to go to her trailer in the literal dump (because she is homeless) to beat her up and steal back the thing she stole. yeah they left her there stuck in a net. yeah wild week."

and then its just. Nico standing behind them ominously, eye twitching, looking like he's about to try destroying Camp Jupiter himself on behalf of this rogue he's never met just purely out of "uncontrollable aura that makes people uncomfortable" solidarity
