I just found this awesome Nico psychopomp Percico au and I was reading through it and I thought to myself “man this au is pretty awesome this is the exact type of stuff that I maladaptive daydream about all the time this is right up my alley I love this” and then I started thinking “”wait hold on why does this seem so familiar. Wait didn’t I have this exact same daydream like yesterday or the day before hold up”. And then I realised ITS MY OWN FUCKING AU POST THAT I MADE YESTERDAY AND HAVE VERY LITTLE MEMORY OF IT. I DOOPED MYSELF. IIIIIMIMIMIMIMI— AND I THOUGHT I HAD JUST FOUND A COOL NEW AU THAT I COULD TALK TO THE OP ANOUT AND HAVE A FRIEND TO COME UP WITH THEORIES WITH. III—

PJO wing AU Masterpost!!

The idea of the AU is that each demigod sprouts wings as they come into their powers and identity as a half-blood. This art is just for demigods with avian wings, but it works the same for bat wings too. Insect wings are a whole different beast that I will tackle later. The idea is that each individual gets human-sized wings of a species based on their godly parentage, personality, and other mysterious factors!

I really wanted to try and emphasize the inhumanity of the half-bloods in this AU by actually changing their fundamental physiology, because I really think it gets glossed over a lot that the demigods are literally not fully human. I imagine that the process of growing the wings is incredibly uncomfortable and at points painful, but is made a lot easier by access to Apollo cabin healers with nectar and ambrosia. The anatomy of it all is enabled entirely by magic, so there would be structures to allow wing movement, but without the magical element flight would be impossible. Here is an idea of the skeletal structure we are working with here:

(I am by no means an expert in human or avian skeletal anatomy- feel free to correct any egregious errors here lol) I imagine that there would be plenty of additional muscles that develop along with the wings, but I do not want to really figure that out. I think that with the aid of magic these muscles would be inconspicuous enough to not significantly affect a demigods general stature — remember that we are not going for exact anatomical plausibility here — and so I will not bother to figure that out unless I have to.

Wing hcs for the seven (+reyna and nico). Because I got bored and they should have wings.

Jason- Swan. Specifically the wings of a trumpeter swan. Large, majestic, maybe a little tragic, pure white and just benefiting of a son of Jupiter and praetor of the legion. He probably spends hours after battle grooming the blood/monster dust/dirt out of them and it’s one hell of a self soothing habit by that point.

Piper- White-Tailed Kite. She’s probably the fastest of the seven, constantly has people asking if she’s got dove wings and it’s lowkey grating on her nerves. It’s a kite, not a glorified pigeon thank you very much. Her and Jason will take turns grooming each other’s feathers though, and it’s lovely bonding time for them both.

Leo- Common Raven. Either signifying knowledge/innovation or the burden of being omened by death, your choice. Who am I kidding, he definitely sees them as bad luck. Clipped on one side from a foster home or possibly when he had a runaway attempt from wilderness camp. Rarely has them out, and stress tears out his own feathers.

Annabeth- Barn Swallow. Kind of plain, but she just lies half the time and says that she’s got owl feathers. Post Mark of Athena, she’s more proud of them and her place among her peers with more exotic wings. Also Percy’s the only person with blanket permission to touch and groom her feathers. Also has a stress tearing issue, but her siblings and partner are good at catching her before she can damage herself too badly.

Percy- Common Kingfisher. Still good for flight, but also allows him to dive and hit the water without worrying about not being able to surface afterwards due to being waterlogged. Bit redundant since he can dry himself off anyway thanks to Poseidon powers but the point still stands. Plus, they’re blue and he’s absolutely chuffed that they are.

Frank- *insert american bald eagle jokes* jkjk. Red-Tailed Hawk. Although he didn’t get his adult feathers until he unlocked his shapeshifter abilities and matured there. He can also change his wings to different ones when he concentrates but it always feels a touch off, so he sticks with the wings he was born with.

Hazel- Golden-Winged Sunbird. Pretty! Unique! Gave her a lot of shit for it in her first life because of course the cursed girl with the death jewels had gold wings. She’s gotten alot more comfortable with having them since meeting Frank and Nico though.

Bonus!

Reyna- Hispanionlan Amazon. Yes, the green clashes with the purple of her praetor cloak. No, that will not stop her from still wearing it. Her and Hylla’s wings match, although Hylla dyes her feathers black in an attempt to seem more intimidating. Reyna tried once and decided that she preferred the original coloring of her wings.

Nico- Cinereous Vulture. Go look up photos, trust me. Absolute wet cat of a bird. Plus honor and respect in death, and like a vulture, Nico is also a scavenger. His wings are missing feathers from neglecting to groom them + the amount of time he’s spent nomadic. Living at camp full time is helping with the feather regrowth however.

A bit of the psychopomp Nico Percico daydream I’ve been thinking about all day

Nico who was “blessed” (cursed) with giant wings by some god (Nyx Achlys Eros Flavinus Hades some other cthonic god with wings).

After the giant war he starts trying to learn how to fly but it’s difficult because the wings are way too big for his body and they’re so unbalanced and awkward (the god said he would grow into them whatever that means) he always feels like he’s either falling backwards with the wings dragging him down or falling forwards with the wings falling on top of him about to crush him.

So he starts watching the pegasi because their wings are close enough in size and examines how they move their wings and trying to copy them. It’s hard for him to find pegasi tho seeing as most of them hate him and are terrified of him for his parentage underworld smell and death aura. So he mainly watches Blackjack because blackjack has always been chill around him.

Blackjack picks up that Nico is copying what his wings do and figures he’s trying to learn to fly. So Blackjack starts doing beginners flying moves and letting Nico watch and copy him and watching Nico fly and trying to show Nico how to correct his mistakes by moving his wings.

And that works for a bit. But there are some things that just need more communication than body language because Nico can’t talk to horses like Percy can. So Blackjack brings in Percy to use him as a translator. The three of them bond over teaching Nico to fly.

Percy and Annabeth had broken up soon after the war so Percy was thankful for this distraction. Nico needed to do some kind of physical therapy exercise because being cramped in the jar for so long and shadow fading with the statue fucked up his muscles and learning to fly is good for them and also helping him relearn motor skills.

Nico is there for Percy through his breakup. Percy is there for Nico through his healing process. They become close friends. Blackjack is secretly the biggest Percico shipper ever. But he won’t say anything about until Percy’s ready.

Eventually Nico becomes a master flyer and doesn’t really need lessons anymore. Blackjack has places he wants to go and friends he wants to visit. (And also he wants to see what happens when Percy and Nico are left alone in a barn overnight lol) So Nico and Percy continue their more advanced lessons on their own. Nico starts learning all kinds of cool flying tricks with Percy on his back.

Percy notices that Nico is almost the same height as him and he’s not so thin anymore his muscles are filling out and getting stronger and has grown a lot since the war ended. His wings don’t look as big in comparison to the rest of his body like they used to. They’re more well balanced now and Nico has much more control over them. He thinks they’re absolutely beautiful works of art. Drop dead gorgeous. Just like the rest of Nico. And that’s how Percy realizes he has a new crush.

(Nico been knew that he had a crush on Percy. Because even though it seemed less intense for a while it was still there deep down. And when he first started learning to fly spending more time with Percy it came back immediately full force. But he thinks Percy’s straight so he does his best to hide it still. He can’t mess up this friendship. He can’t make things awkward between them).

They spend everyday together do every camp activity together. During capture the flag if they’re on the same team they’re the power couple that wins every game. They beat Annabeths team a couple times and she pretended to be pissed (but secretly she was proud and happy for them and she knows they know that even if things didn’t work out with her and Percy).

But when they’re on separate teams. Well. They only actually fought one game separately. They somehow found each other in the woods. And the biggest most competitive big three kid fight happened since the 1920s. It 30 times more catastrophic than Percy and Thalias fight in the titans curse. And it was all in the name of glory competition and sportsmanship. They don’t seriously injure each other but boy do they both have so many small injuries piled up they have to be in the infirmary for a couple days. They laugh about the whole situation and are always debating who won that fight. Nobody ever figures out who won. Nobody else was around to witness it. They found the both of them strung out lying in the ground as if they defeated each other. Like they’re perfect matches for each other.

After that they play fight a lot. They spar a lot. Nico gets to be just as well of a sword fighter as Percy. And from then on when they’re on separate teams they don’t actually fight each other. They go awol from their team and find each other in the woods and just spar or hang out or whatever.

Sparing turns to flirting. Flirting turns to kissing. Kissing turns to fucking. Fucking turns to confessions. Confessions turn to happily ever after. Oh yeah Nico has wings too I forgot about that.

At some pint Percy realizes how sensitive Nico’s wings are and uses that against him because they do everything like they’re sparring. Nico says that he hates it because it so not fair that Percy has the upper hand (they do everything like they’re sparring) but secretly he loves it because wing rubbing time is a very fun time for him wether it’s sexual or not and Percy knows this because half the time he stops and Nico will either beg for more or take the upper hand from him. Sometimes it’s just Percy being nice rubbing out his back and wing muscles to make them relax and let Nico breathe deeply for a bit. Sometimes it turns into a game.

And this is where my minds drawing a blank now so.

That’s how Percico end up together forever yay.

And years down the line, when Hazel has lived a fulfilled life and it’s time for her to reunite with her brother, her children watch as a young boy just appears out of nowhere - invisible to the other’s eyes but theirs - and takes the old woman’s hand the same moment her breaths stop.
