“It is safe to say that one would hardly be pressed to come upon a human settlement in this day and age. There seldom seems to be a world, asteroid, or even empty void that does not hold some outpost or town stead of humans carving a living for themselves and their offspring in this bountiful universe we all find ourselves in.

Often small clusters of humans, they will likely be nestled together in habitation units or buried beneath the surface of a hostile world for shelter; defying all notions realistic safety and security in exchange for a home they can call their own. These establishments are more or less collections of several structures circling a central area that they can gather in when the need arises.

Now you are no doubt wondering why it was felt that such human collections of residences would be worth mentioning in this book of wonders. In truth they would have barely made the footnote with how scant and unappealing these locations often are.

Dangerous, isolated, and more often as dreary as a funeral on a rainy day for your brood mother; these human settlements are the last places one would wish to visit to gaze in wonder. Thankfully, these are just the prelude to the real wonders of humanity.

Deep within the human domain, residing on one of the “core worlds” as they call them; are wonders that defy all expectation.

On the planet Linden III you find the mountain size cathedrals that house the human faith “New Edenism”. These constructs of breathtaking scope were built centuries ago to gather the faithful of a new era and became the birthplace for the third most popular religion amongst the humans.

If you find yourself wanting to visit these holy sites it is warned that you prepare for quite the journey. The cities that formed around these monoliths of faith grew just as much as the church following did over the centuries and have now found their structures building around these temples like the jaws of a great beast closing upon its prey. While still technically on the ground level of the world, your average travel will need to traverse down nearly three hundreds floors to reach them as the planet itself has become little more than one massive mega city building atop itself with each new generation.

The journey can be rather straining on the unprepared and many a faithful pilgrim have found themselves lost within the labyrinth of twisting tunnels and walk ways as they descend. It is highly recommended that one wishing to see these locations remain on the designated paths maintained by the churches administrators; regardless of how long the lines may be.

Within the walls of this holy place you can find breath taking paintings the size of lakes depicting the endeavors of humanity to carve their way into the unknown and tame the void of space into a new paradise. Legions of pews stand at the ready for the faithful stretching far off into the distance as a forest of loudspeakers broadcast the words of preachers that appear as mere dots on the horizon.

While rarely ever packed to full capacity, an undertaking that would take no less than ten million souls according to church officials, you will hardly ever find the temple in an abandoned state. Followers of the religion can be found plentiful here as they worship in silence.

It is a rare sight for a faith to structure itself around the betterment of a species as a whole rather than devoting itself to a singular or multiple set of figures that would be viewed as higher beings or “Gods” as the humans call them. Yet the faith of New Edenism has done just that and flourishes amongst the species, even going so far as to dedicate portions of their temple to do just that.

Within the walls of this massive complex are a series of massive generators providing power to not only the building itself, but much of the surrounding levels that have sprung up around it. Fresh water purification plants unleash streams of crystal clear water along hand carved rivers to the various districts as well turning the house of faith into a beating heart for almost a billion souls. While not all of them claim to be members of the faith itself, they do acknowledge the gifts it hands to them and state that without the basic essentials provided by the New Edenisites they would most likely be forced to relocate miles away to more dangerous levels.

If one would have the time in-between their travels it is recommended to listen to the sermons that resound in the halls of worship there. Granted it can be said that not every vocal practitioner they bring forth has full control over rudimentary vocabulary; there are some that could make the most harden of killers weep and babies shed their last tear.

The core beliefs of the faith dictate that only by humans aiding other humans, regardless of their beliefs or creed, would they ever be able to achieve the Eden that was once lost to them. Through their assistance they see this new paradise building around them as the wants and needs of their fellow man are satiated, freeing them from the day to day struggle for survival that befalls them and allowing them to look inwards for self-betterment and enlightenment.

Taking roughly three to four days to complete the journey, it is highly recommended that if there was but one sight to see to represent human achievement it would be the Temples of Linden III; though it must be said that nearly a third of that trip will be your attempts to reach the surface after completing your sightseeing of the locations.

The priests, for a no doubt devious reason, failed to provide clear instructions for going back the way you came.
