Benefits of wearing Sunscreen
Wearing sunscreen provides a multitude of benefits for your skin and overall well-being. Here are some significant advantages:
Guarding Against Harmful UV Rays: Sunscreen acts as a protective shield, effectively blocking harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun. It ensures defense against both UVA and UVB rays, known for causing skin damage, sunburns, premature aging, and an elevated risk of skin cancer.
Preventing Painful Sunburns: Sunburns can be both distressing and detrimental to the skin. Sunscreen plays a crucial role in preventing sunburns by absorbing and reflecting the sun's UV rays, thereby minimizing the skin's exposure to them.
Lowering the Risk of Skin Cancer: Prolonged exposure to UV radiation escalates the likelihood of developing skin cancer, including melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma. By consistently using sunscreen, you can significantly diminish this risk.
Slowing Down Premature Aging: UV rays are culprits of premature aging, manifesting as wrinkles, fine lines, and age spots. Shielding your skin from these harmful rays with sunscreen aids in maintaining a youthful appearance and overall skin health.
Promoting a Balanced Skin Tone: Sunscreen helps in averting uneven skin tone and hyperpigmentation triggered by sun exposure. It actively reduces the appearance of dark spots and blemishes, contributing to a more even complexion.
Shielding Sensitive Skin: Individuals with sensitive skin benefit from sunscreen due to its protective layer, which minimizes irritation and redness caused by sun exposure.
Mitigating Photosensitivity Reactions: Certain medications and skin conditions heighten the skin's sensitivity to sunlight, resulting in photosensitivity reactions. Sunscreen plays a pivotal role in alleviating these effects, enabling individuals to enjoy outdoor activities without adverse responses.
Supporting Overall Skin Health: By acting as a barrier against harmful UV rays, sunscreen fosters the well-being of your skin and helps maintain its natural functions, such as temperature regulation and protection against infections.
Guarding Against Sun-Induced Eye Damage: Applying sunscreen near the eyes or using sunscreen-infused sunglasses offers vital protection against conditions like cataracts and other sun-induced eye issues.
Alleviating Sun Allergy Risks: For individuals prone to sun allergies or polymorphic light eruption (PMLE), sunscreen provides substantial relief by minimizing the skin's exposure to UV rays that trigger these reactions.
Remember always to apply sunscreen properly and regularly, opting for a suitable SPF level for your skin type, and reapply it every few hours or after swimming or sweating. Complement sunscreen use with other sun-protective measures, such as seeking shade during peak sun hours and donning protective clothing and hats when outdoors.
Here's a list of sunscreens I loveeee:
Neutrogena Invisible Daily Defense Face Sunscreen + Hydrating Serum SPF 60+
EltaMD UV Daily Face Sunscreen with Zinc Oxide, SPF 40 Facial Sunscreen

so my face has been acting. strangely. the past week. burning sensations and feeling hot or even tingly for a bit last week. And i was thinking about what could have caused it. and i think it’s this new sunscreen i bought. since i was spending like an hour in the sun i was like .. my face! i need sunscreen. so i was at the grocery store and picked up a neutrogena invisible daily defense face serum 60spf sunscreen. and i put it on on wednesday morning and again before my commute after work on Wednesday afternoon. and that’s IT. it made me greasy so i didn’t keep doing it. but my eyelids have been a bit puffier than normal, and i’ve had burning sensations. it was especially bad last week but isn’t gone yet. i thought maybe it was my makeup since i usually never wear it, maybe 6 times a year total, and suddenly wearing it almost every day is a big change. maybe some of if is too old idk. but i looked up photoreactive and photoallergic ingredients and medications and there are one or two in the sunscreen!! wtf! why would you put photoreactive or even photoALLERGIC ingredients in sunscreen. ugh. so i am thinking it was the sunscreen. but im giving my face some time off of makeup bc my eyelids are feeling delicate, spicy.
it was hard to say bc i did get sunburned about a week prior. but it did NOT feel like a sunburn.
ugh

Chloe and Halle Bailey, the duo behind Chloe x Halle, have reached another milestone in their career.
The sisters, whose claim to fame is their role as Jazz and Sky Forster in the comedy sitcom “Grown-ish,” announced that they had been officially named as Neutrogena’s newest ambassador.
Chloe X Halle X Neutrogena
Over their social media, the “Don’t Make It Harder on Me” hitmaker surprised their fans with their bubbly and energetic campaign ad while flaunting their uber flawless skin.
“SURPRISE! we are so excited to announce that we are the new faces of @Neutrogena! Finding the perfect skincare routine is not easy, but with Neutrogena, we glow from the inside and out. we are so happy to be a part of such a beautiful family, and we are even more excited to share this journey with you all!” Chloe x Halle Instagram caption reads.
In the short clip, the older Bailey can be heard describing the brand as a total “game-changer.”
Following this, celebrity friends and fans expressed their support over the duo’s new collaboration.
Japanese-British singer-songwriter Rina Sawayama mentioned how they “both look glowing.”
The same goes with the “Star” actress Ryan Destiny, who wrote, “Yesss! bc the skin is too beautiful. Ahhh, so f’n happy guysss.”

“So thrilled to be @neutrogena brand ambassadors together! SUCH A DREAM COME TRUE!” they tweeted.
In the video, she recalls her little obsession with the brand and its famous face splashing commercial.
Moreover, Halle asked her sister what’s the three essentials things in her bag, to which she replied cellphone, Neutrogena Skin Balancing Cleansing Towelettes for “refresher,” and lastly, her dark shades.

In an exclusive interview with People magazine, the “Happy Without Me” hitmakers spoke about their beauty must-haves and learning to embrace their individuality.
During their candid chit-chat, the sisters were asked about their skincare go-to and products that they swear by.
For Chloe Bailey, she shared that she has been using Invisible Daily Defense Sunscreen, and it helps her address discoloration and scarring on her face.
Moreover, she also learned not to pop her pimples because they will only leave stubborn marks.
Another product that she mentioned is the Skin Balancing Micellar Cleansing Cloths to easily get rid of makeup residues.
On the other hand, her sister, Halle Bailey, shared that they both have different skin types, and unfortunately, she is more acne-prone.
With this, she uses Neutrogena’s Oil-Free Acne Wash and Stubborn Acne AM Treatment, “especially when I get anxiety about a closeup or something,” she explained.

Busting Common Skincare Myths: What Truly Works and What Doesn't
In the pursuit of radiant and flawless skin, it's easy to get lost in a maze of skincare myths and misconceptions. From homemade remedies to supposed miracle products, the beauty industry can sometimes leave us bewildered. Let's dive into some prevalent skincare myths, setting the record straight on what's effective and what's not.
Myth: The More, the Merrier
Reality: Layering multiple products may seem enticing, but quality trumps quantity. Overloading your skin can lead to irritation and clogged pores. A personalized routine catering to your skin type - including a cleanser, moisturizer, sunscreen, and targeted treatment if necessary - is the way to go.
Myth: Natural Means Safe
Reality: Just because something is labeled "natural" doesn't guarantee it's safe for all skin types. Allergies and reactions can still occur. It's crucial to read labels, patch-test, and consult a dermatologist before incorporating new products.
Myth: Pores Open and Close
Reality: You might have heard that steam opens pores while cold water closes them. In truth, pores lack muscles, so they can't change shape. Steam can temporarily soften debris, but a solid cleansing routine and exfoliation work better for maintaining clear pores.
Myth: Oily Skin Rejects Moisturizers
Reality: Hydration benefits all skin types, including oily ones. Skipping moisturizer can lead to increased oil production. Opt for a lightweight, oil-free moisturizer to maintain balance without causing breakouts.
Myth: Sunscreen Is for Sunny Days Only
Reality: Sunscreen is a must, no matter the weather. Harmful UV rays are present even on cloudy days and can penetrate windows. Consistent broad-spectrum sunscreen application safeguards your skin from premature aging and damage.
Best sunscreens EVER:
La Roche-Posay Anthelios Melt-in Milk Body & Face Sunscreen
LIVE TINTED Hueguard Invisible Sunscreen Stick SPF 50
Neutrogena Invisible Daily Defense Face Sunscreen + Hydrating Serum with Broad Spectrum SPF 60+
Myth: Exfoliating Daily for Perfection
Reality: Exfoliation aids in cell turnover, but excess can cause irritation. 2-3 times a week with a gentle exfoliant is sufficient for a smoother complexion without harming your skin's barrier.
Amazing Facial Exfoliants:
Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant - Exfoliator Facial Scrub Powder
TULA Skin Care So Poreless Exfoliating Blackhead Scrub
M-61 PowerGlow® Peel- 30 Treatments
Myth: Moisturizers and Oils Aggravate Acne
Reality: Acne-prone skin thrives with hydration. Seek non-comedogenic, oil-free options. Some oils, like jojoba or rosehip, can even regulate sebum and enhance skin appearance.
Moisturizers I personally love:
Paula’s Choice C5 Super Boost Moisturizer with 5% Vitamin C
e.l.f. SKIN Holy Hydration!
CeraVe Moisturizing Cream | Body and Face
TATCHA The Dewy Skin Cream
In conclusion, navigating through the world of skincare requires discerning fact from fiction. An informed approach, coupled with a streamlined routine, is the key to glowing skin. When in doubt, a dermatologist's guidance can be invaluable on your skincare journey. Remember, debunking skincare myths is an essential stride towards achieving your skin's best version.

Hey besties!! Its officially summer and as your local fish nerd and environmental science major, I thought I’d drop a quick reminder to check that any sunscreen you use is reef safe!! Our coral reefs are slowly dying bc of global warming (ocean acidification, etc) and certain chemicals present in sunscreens only exacerbate the process!! Here’s a little info-graphic from Safe the Reef to help everybody out!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
https://savethereef.org/about-reef-save-sunscreen.html
If you see a sunscreen you are currently using, don’t just throw it out though. Use it in a pool or while you’re sunning, just not in the ocean or freshwater around you. Plastic and toxic waste are both issues too, so just finish what you have and never buy the brand again!! Personally, I’m trying to finish all of my Sunbum stuff before switching to a safer brand like Thinksport!
Baby sunscreens are usually reef safe too, bc babies have sensitive skin so their sunscreens tend to only have zinc oxide, the best sunscreen product.
There’s also this thing called the HEL list to keep an eye out for in your sunscreens. They’re the chemicals that are pollutants and show up in sunscreens and other skin products. NEVER FEAR THO BC THIS IS NOT A CHEM CLASS, the absolutely stunning, gorgeous, and amazing Haereticus Environmental Laboratory has gotcha covered. From their website, “Products labeled with the “Protect Land + Sea” Certification Seal mean that the product has been laboratory‐tested using analytical‐forensic techniques to verify that the product is free of the chemicals that are on the “HEL LIST.””
This little symbol right here:
Tumblr media
http://haereticus-lab.org/protect-land-sea-certification-3/
For all you uber nerds like me who wanna know what the HEL list is, here ya go:
- Any form of microplastic sphere or beads
- Any nanoparticles like zinc oxide or titanium dioxide
-Oxybenzone
- Octinoxate
- 4-methylbenzylidene camphor
- Octocrylene
- Para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA)
- Methyl Paraben
- Ethyl Paraben
- Propyl Paraben
- Butyl Paraben
- Benzyl Paraben
- Triclosan
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk! Have fun this summer but don’t be an ass to the environment or people!
