Hitler's Rise to Power
Adolf Hitler, the infamous leader of Nazi Germany, didn't just wake up one day with absolute power. His journey to the top was a decade-long process filled with setbacks and strategic maneuvering. Hitler promised to revive Germany's lost glory, restore traditional values, and eliminate enemies like Communists and Jewish people, which resonated deeply with a nation reeling from World War I's devastating aftermath. His rise was enabled by those already in power seeking to leverage his popularity for their own gain.
Key Facts:
Popularity Gained Over Time: The Nazi Party won just 12 seats in 1928 but grew to 288 by 1933.
Strategic Promises: Hitler vowed to end unemployment, restore German pride, and expand the nation's territories.
Power Consolidation: Once in power, Hitler quickly dismantled all opposition.
Historical Context
Hitler's ascent took place amidst a backdrop of economic turmoil and political instability following the Treaty of Versailles. The Great Depression further exacerbated these tensions, leading many Germans to seek radical solutions.
Historical Significance
Hitler's rise to power not only marked the beginning of a totalitarian regime in Germany but also set the stage for World War II. His ability to exploit political weaknesses and economic distress to consolidate power remains a chilling lesson in the exploitation of crises for dictatorial purposes.

Imagine being nice was always your main directive. Being nice meant that nothing could happen to you. That you were safe, because who would want to hurt you when you're a literal angel.
But then your husband becomes an anti-vaxxer, you remain nice. He becomes part of a reactionary racist party. And then he votes for the Naziparty. The problem being: He's not the only one.
And you remain nice.
But darkness has sneakeded into your home, what are you gonna do? Pretend it's not there. Just be nice to your kids, just don't consume news.
Just remain frozen. If you just don't move and don't acknowledge the problem, will it go away? Sometimes in your darkest moment, you'll remember your teen self. So eager with love and tenderness. And in disbelief over the crimes perpetrated and/or witnessed by your ancestors. How they kill so many people?
Did others not notice? No, it can't be they must have known, right? You remember the countless books you read on the subject. You remember visiting "Auschwitz" Gedenkstätte, "Dachau" Gedenkstätte, all the Gedenkstätten, even one your parents took you to when you were very little. You remember your parents defending AfD just the last time you spoke to them on the phone. You remember.....
You're snapping out of your moment of sanity while your husband, sitting at the dinner table is mumbling something in his typically depressed outrage he just read on NIUS. You don't respond but instead engage your older kid in a super awkward chat about school. They heard what their father said. And they will always remember these moments.

One of the German states elected our literal naziparty as strongest one today and idk how to feel. I grew up there and still am there from time to time and the nazis are nothing new just the party they unite under. I got my bones broken from nazis with fourteen and couldn't believe it when years later the whole public began to talk from a "shift to the right". Because they always existed and most people just turned a blind eye. So go out and Vote if it makes you happy but come train with me afterwards so we're ready in the streets, the bars and the Kleingartenanlagen.

Went to see #Cabaret on Wednesday and it was a really good show, found it to be a really upbeat and funny musical....until we got into the second act and man did that mood change to a much darker one as we got closer and closer to the end as we were experiencing the build up of the Nazi party, like I said overall it was really good, in all honesty I didn't look into at all before so I went in blind and boy was I not expecting how it turned out, there was quite a few attractive people in it too that were very pleasing to the eye 😏😆 And I love the soundtrack of it, the cast were great too #cabaretmusical #cabaretthemusical #willkommen #johnpartridge #karalilyhayworth #anitaharris #billkenwright #berlin #naziparty #bordgaisenergytheatre #dublin #musical #theatre #musicaltheatre #musicaltheatrelover #musicallover #theatrelover #theatregoer #bisexual #biandproud #basicallygay (at Bord Gáis Energy Theatre) https://www.instagram.com/p/B3Mms0Ui0xv/?igshid=t9nqaabjmemi

Rudolf Hess
Rudolf Hess (1894-1987) was deputy leader of the German Nazi Party and a key figure in the fascist regime of Adolf Hitler (1889-1945) until his bizarre decision in 1941 to fly to Scotland. Hess believed he could persuade Britain to withdraw from the Second World War (1939-45), which would allow Germany to concentrate on fighting the USSR.
Hess's diplomatic overtures were dismissed as nonsense by both the British government and Hitler. Hess had acted without Hitler's blessing, and he was shunned as a lunatic. Hess remained a prisoner, first in Britain and then, after he was found guilty at the Nuremberg Trials, in Germany. He committed suicide at the age of 93, although his physical frailty led to some speculation as to just how he had managed to hang himself in the garden of Spandau prison.
Early Life
Rudolf Richard Hess was born in Alexandria, Egypt, on 26 April 1894. Rudolf's father owned a successful export company in the port city, but he insisted his son study in Germany from the age of 14. Rudolf then worked in his father's business until the outbreak of the First World War (1914-18) when he enlisted as a volunteer. Hess joined the same regiment in the Bavarian army that Adolf Hitler served in, the 1st Bavarian Infantry Regiment. He won his commission, the rank of lieutenant, but after being twice wounded and winning the Iron Cross Second Class medal, he decided to join the German Air Force, although the war ended just a few months later.
Hess moved to Munich, where he studied history, economics, and politics at the city's university. Although he never completed his degree, Hess did come under the spell of the influential professor of geopolitics, Karl Haushofer. In post-war Germany, the politics of the Weimar Republic, as it was then called, was volatile. Hess blamed the socialist regime for Germany's economic woes, and he sought a radical change to German politics. Hess "became a member of the Freikorps Epp and participated in the liberation of Munich from communist revolutionaries in the spring of 1919" (Gellately, 62). Hess then joined the fascist National Socialist German Workers' Party (NSDAP or Nazi Party for short), which was founded in 1920 as the German Workers' Party. Hess joined the party in the summer of 1920.

Election related rant
So I know we have way worse politicians and parties out there (hello naziparty EKRE), the Estonian Green Party gets me going because they present themselves as feminist and as more left than the Social Democrats.
Last week (or the week before) the leader of the Green Party Izmailova gave an interview to the feminist magazine Feministeerium, where she flat-out stated that SotsDems aren't really leftist (they aren't on the global scale) and how they have stopped growing (arguable, but fair criticism) and how the Green Party is way more leftist. This coming from a woman who on a feminist forum called women using the contraceptive pill sluts. Then a few days ago her spouse (and I think previous leader of the party) went 'we need to freemarket the free public transportation in Tallinn so that everyone would be a client and would demand better service!'. For those not in the know our capital has for a long time been run by a somewhat nepotistic and corrupt party, but the one thing which everyone has basically agreed upon is that their idea of making public transportation for all the citizens of Tallinn free works and actually it would be great if more places had the same system. We can argue about how good an idea freemarket is but if the main 'clients' are pensioners and people who cannot afford other means of transportation then no effing way will they start 'demanding better service as clients'. Their only option will be to eat less or not take the bus.
What also worries me is that Izmailova is rabidly against GMOs, stating that 'nature is perfect' (so I guess that's why women keep dying in childbirth). The Green Party thing in this election is also demanding 'clean food for children' (in school lunches I guess?) but does that mean GMO free food as well? Estonia cannot at this point support itself food-wise, our agriculture is shit, so will they take the money from public transportation to ship in unnecessary 'clean' food from fuck knows where?
Oh, and they marched with Nazis against a big railway. Have to bring this up again.

"shooting at refugees" Beatrix von Storch openly admitted that
Given your entering phrase you argue in a frame of dismissing the case, put case against case already instead of negotiating.
Beatrix von Storch, one of the high ranking AfD members openly said that shooting at children and women was a legitimate action to secure the borders, the first argument doesn't stand.
Further, Germany is part if one of the main actors in the EU. Having worked for decades to the thing the AfD wants to reverse: open borders. Wanting to secure borders by fire weapons is not only five back of the goals the EU achieved but also a cause surmounting tool - an exaggeration of means of security as border patrol without direct shooting is a fair option.
For the crime statistics: I grew up in an industrial town close to the Swiss border with a high percentage of immigrants. This city was in Germany's Top 10 of criminal cities. Why? Because it was counted into the area the drug traffic over the Swiss border happened - namely by Swiss people, the Camorra, and local German dealers. Where do I want to get with this? I never felt insecure despite several crime organizations having their seats in this region because the local police did greately caring for the civil population.
First check who is responsible for what crimes, you can't throw one individual with another in a pot just because they vaguely look alike.
The two poisonous skittles in a bowl model stigmatizes an entire group as "possibly dangerous" to exclude the entire group. The model dismisses the group to "them", all dangerous instead of creating a system of targeting the 1% who could really be threatening. What Germany really lacks is the training of new competent police officers. Last year one attack happened at the Christmas market in Berlin, in a year the Berlin police force was able to detect a majority of potential threats and acted against it. Wowereit, ex-mayor of Berlin shortened the budget and educational resources for the Berlin police force, now they've troubles forming the upcoming generation properly. What is actually needed are schooled forces, able to prevent instead of only react when the crime happened.
The majority of AfD voters voted in Länder which are the least likely to get taken over. With Mecklenburg-Vorpommern having voted the AfD in such a high percentage in fear of getting taken, I am pretty sure that this Land is with no large cities and low rate of population at small risk of low risk of terror attacks. Terror attacks intend to target huge masses to target as many victims as possible - for which MeckPom would be unsuitable.
So why should Germany not be proud of the Wehrmacht?
In contrary to WWI in which the war was anticipated by all imperial parties, and Austria was actually guiding the German army resources, the first strike and constant aggression came from the Wehrmacht in WWII.
The war was prepared longhand by the Naziparty: preparing roads (not the highways, that happened under Adenauer), the scholar system and free time activities far away from parental influence, and talking in "Mein Kampf" already of a war, the nation got indoctrinated to fight for the bigger cause of nationalism.
The logical mistake here is, the Wehrmacht did not defend but offend. Germany had an inner trouble of unemployment and political instability after Stresemann's death being the end of his real politics, and the Great Depression hitting in the same year. Hitler's fiscal plan brought Germany actually in deeper depth.
The reason for WWII was to conquer and wipe out certain ethnicities not to defend the country. whereas told the individual life was worth getting list for a cause which was dictated by the government, and children got indoctrinated with, and actually were required to by law but not out of free choice.
Sure mothers can grieve for dead children but the pride comes from an army wanting to eliminate groups just because they exist, commiting war crimes and crimes against humanity. We are talking about soldiers getting raised with an racist worldview, and sexist world view, fighting for it with pride for it. Having lost a child is horrible but being proud of the crime it has commited is an entirely different sentiment.
Germany is not held back by the Shoa. In fact Germany is most progressive on dealing with that unerasable part of history. Whereas other countries like France, England, USA, Japan, or Russia never dealt with genocidal and Colonial history, Germany is perhaps the biggest exception in the world community to deal with the crime. You can't deny the Shoa was a crime against humanity
It shapes German culture anf consciousness. Kant, and Hegel contributed to German governmental Philosophy, so do Popper and Habermas after WWII. German law has been reformed by the consciousness of preventing and blocking the actions having made it possible for the Nazi party to reign Germany the way they did.
Instead of denying the crime Germany deals with the harm done to strive to do better. In a certain way they don't deny the blame, instead of tripping all the time over the same conflict over and over again, like France does with Algeria, or the US having to deal daily with unresolved racist conflicts, or Japan being incredibly racist, and even glorifying war crimes.
The 1000 years of Germany quote is a figure of speech by Nazi ideology, that's why it raises flags. As well is it, taken literally, rather uneducated against the historical observation how national borders change constantly. Finally the concept of "German" is historically incorrect as Germany is just the frame around a bound of different tribes. Allemans aren't Prussians, Frisenians are not Bavarian, Swabois are not Saxons, German as ethnicity does not exist.
German philosophers, writers, artist and scientist are always mentioned but don't forget that a good deed of them were also Jewish, or, especially modern ones, against Nazi ideology. Germanys most famous artists and actors as Emil Nolde, Fritz Lang, Marlene Dietrich, and a good deed of "Brücke" artists, either emigrated or fled.
Germany is known for it's cultural and technical contribution but the 12 years of Nazi regime were too horrifying and impacting in society and world history to deny them as well.
The US-Americans are stupidly proud about a country with a good deed of unresolved history and in consequence of cripling society. Shall the Germans run after the example and blend out the problems as well? I find it annoying as well talking again and again about false historical facts the moment I mentioned I study in Germany but let's be real, the world will not forget the Shoa, and Germany actually tried to overcome the history.
Indeed democratic people can vote what they want. They vote for a party with Nazi-rhetoric and -mentality, and falsification of historical events.
The racist, sexist, islamophobic, nationalistic, anti-semitic shitbag nazi party just became the third strongest party in the German parliament.
Well fucking done Germany. Well done. Not even a hundred years have passed since World War 2 and ya’ll went ahead and elected nazis into our parliament. Thanks to the millions of people who voted for them and the millions of people who didn’t bother to vote at all, thanks for nothing.

The Perils of Automated Adtech: When Racist Groups Outsmart Tech Giants to Fuel Hate
Its 2017. Google and Facebook command a duopoly in the digital advertising industry. Experts have predicted that these two tech giants are expected to take half of the worldwide revenue and more than 60% within the US market.
One of the reasons for their growth has been the increasingly automated, self-service type of buying and selling advertisements. It cuts out the middleman, takes virtually seconds to complete, and makes the entire system far more accessible to millions of potential advertisers around the world.
But as they say, there is always a con to every pro.
It’s been years since World War 2. Yet, until the last week or so, it seemed like the world’s largest social network let advertisers direct their pitches to the news feeds of over 2000 people who had expressed interest in topics akin to “Jew hater,” “How to burn Jews,” or, “History of ‘why Jews ruin the world.”
ProPublica tested this to verify the extent of it by using Facebook’s paid ad format to target these groups. And within minutes, all their ads were approved.
The anti-semitic categories were removed after ProPublica initiated contact with Facebook. Facebook also promised better monitoring and said they would dig deeper to rectify the problem.
So, what exactly happened?
Facebook eventually identified that certain fields like Education, Employment, Field of Study and Job Title targeting needed more attention. Unchecked algorithms could be blamed for the mess created.
Users fill in various parameters like Education and Employment details themselves. And typically, the algorithm is meant to throw up results based on previous targeting and these user parameters.
What was happening in this case is that the algorithm did not have the ability to know that fields like ‘Nazi Party’ when filled should not lead to more targeted grouping.
Does that mean Marketers and Technologists both need to be more careful?
With more than 2 million active monthly users on a single platform like Facebook, unchecked marketing and unhealthy community targeting can be a rising cause of concern.
Advertising and Marketing is meant to influence consumers to buy into your product or service after all. Imagine a situation where young impressionable people are targeted or turned.
Users contribute their personal data voluntarily when creating new accounts. Technologists behind the scenes can’t only be concerned with the security of personal details. They need to also consistently monitor machine-learning abilities and algorithms to avoid similar situations from arising. A lack of supervision and oversight led to the above, quite clearly.
But how so?
When enough people had typed something like “NaziParty” as their employer or “Jew hater” as a field of study on their profiles, the machines decided that these people needed their own grouping or targeting.
How was the algorithm supposed to know that Nazi Party was a German political party and something considered almost offensive?.
Facebook’s algorithm may not have known what it was doing, because it was programmed to do what it was told. But the people behind Facebook should have. What they missed was the fact that an algorithm that is trained to identify text characters but not its meaning can be easily fooled.
Lo and behold, Google and Twitter made the same mistake too!
A CNBC article spoke of how Google had also disabled majority of the keywords that could be used by advertisers targeting racist or anti-semitic topics. And this came right after the Facebook fiasco.
Reportedly, Google, the world’s largest advertising platform was allowing advertisers to target similar searches and even prompted the advertisers to play ads next to searches like “the evil Jew’. These ads were visible when the keywords were searched for, BuzzFeed found.
After Buzzfeed’s inquiry, Google disabled some of the keyword searches.
Sridhar Ramaswamy, Google’s Senior Vice President of Ads was quoted in various interviews as saying, "We've already turned off these suggestions and any ads that made it through, and will work harder to stop this from happening again.”
This update came a day after Facebook Inc. said it was disabling advertiser’s ability to target people based on the above factors.
This wasn’t the end though. A while after the BuzzFeed report, The Daily Beast went on to report that Twitter too allows distribution and display of similar such disturbing ads. Like ProPublica and BuzzFeed, The Daily Beast too tested the extent of this.
The outcome
After being contacted by ProPublica and Buzzfeed respectively, both Facebook and Google disabled a lot of the targeting that was leading to either racist or anti-semitic messaging. Twitter had not issued a formal statement.
However, the fact that all of this was slipping through the cracks is more of a wake-up call.
Why?
Marketers the world over are blatantly using platforms like Facebook, Google and Twitter to gain better traction and achieve a larger customer base. Without consistent monitoring during product development or while machine-learning abilities or algorithms are built, the foreseen damage that this could create is simply not nice.
What this boils down to is that there is a definite need for more human intervention at every level. Man created machines, and the machines need watching.
The root problem with automated ad sales irrespective of which platform, is that there is very little human intervention. On platforms like Facebook and Google for instance, anyone can run ads in a few clicks by just filling a form.
These platforms run a large number of ads, daily. In Q2 of 2017 itself, Facebook generated an impressive $9.3 billion in revenue through ads alone. This does pose quite a challenge when it comes to vetting every ad pitch.
But none of the platforms serve as ‘media entities’. To the point that Facebook used to contend that since it isn’t one, there is actually no obligation to monitor or censor content.
While their stance is changing now, several industry experts have been debating on how it is actually not that tough for established companies like Facebook and Google to block hate speech. These companies employ some of the biggest brains in tech and executing a balanced monitoring system wouldn’t be difficult for them. Given that, several experts do feel that this should have been a basic feature from the beginning itself.
Is It fair to blame the World’s favorite platforms?
Nobody is perfect. And perhaps building machines with the aim of reducing execution cycles and increasing accuracy is one way of trying to be.
But, it’s always people behind the machines and machines don’t build themselves. Yet.
A glitch no matter how small or big by top companies will always be broken down, assessed, re-assessed and largely debated.
Is it fair to blame them? Now that more users and marketers are aware of this, corrections will be made. That is, until someone finds a new way to beat the system and create more trouble.
