there's few things i hate more than people watering down what it means to be antizionist. it's in the fucking name. if you believe there's any capacity to reconcile palestinian liberation with the existence of israel you're not an antizionist, you might as well take that watermelon emoji out of your bio.
it is not enough to be "pro-palestine," we're over a year into a live broadcasted genocide, recognizing and denouncing the genocide and siding with its victims is the bare minimum and should be the standard at this point. after 15 months of live streamed genocide, you'd think that would prompt people to investigate what led us to this point, how we all failed palestinians, and what it means to truly stand by them, but no not really. some dumb fucking cunts really think they're well and truly antizionist by advocating for a ceasefire and politely asking israel to pull their rabid, bloodthirsty settlers out of the westbank. as if the settler colonialism started in '67, and the ethnic cleansing that preceded is always either left not acknowledged or outright justified.
palestinian liberation means the abolition of the settler colonial, apartheid nation state that is israel, and giving the land back to its rightful owners, nothing less, not even an inch less.

Sephardic Jews from Thessaloniki in their traditional costumes, in the city’s old cemetery, before the war // a contemporary photo that shows where the destroyed cemetery once was, which is now Greece's largest university, built partially on top of and with land and materials (particularly tombstones) stolen from the razed site.
Thessaloniki or Salonika, once referred to as “the Jerusalem of the Balkans” due to its Ladino-speaking Jewish majority, saw roughly 96% of its Jewish population murdered during the Holocaust. This mass destruction extended to the city's Jewish cemetery, which had been the country's largest, established in the 15th century and housing hundreds of thousands of Jewish graves until its razing by city authorities who had long desired to repurpose the land and resented the inconvenience of Jewish presence. Despite its large-scale destruction during German occupation in 1942, which was initiated and carried out primarily by Thessaloniki authorities with Nazi consent and arrangement, some parts of the cemetery survived intact as late as 1947. Many tombstones were subsequently appropriated and used by city authorities and the Greek Orthodox Church. After the war, people were still carrying away Jewish gravestones each day and regularly looting the cemetery in search of valuables. The city's officials, led by their mayor, completed the cemetery's destruction and sold the tombstones to contractors for use as building materials in various projects; as such many were and are still found in various walls, roads, structures, and churches around the city. A 1992 commemorative book pictures Greek schoolgirls playing Hamlet with skulls and other bones they found in the cemetery.
“[T]he ‘rape’ of the cemetery escalated, marble flooded the market, and its price plummeted. Jewish tombstones were stacked up in mason’s yards and, with the permission of the director of antiquities of Macedonia and overseen by the metropolitan bishop and the municipality, used to pave roads, line latrines, and extend the sea walls; to construct pathways, patios, and walls in private and public spaces though out the city, in suburbs such as Panorama and Ampelokipi, and more than sixty kilometers away in beach towns in Halkidiki, where they decorated playgrounds, bars, and restaurants in hotels; to build a swimming pool – with Hebrew-letter inscription visible; to repair the St. Demetrius Church and other buildings...” Devin Naar, Jewish Salonica: Between the Ottoman Empire and Modern Greece
Most of the efforts to return found tombstones throughout the city are led by Jews, particularly Jacky Benmayor, the curator of the Jewish Museum and last Ladino speaker in Greece, who has personally recovered hundreds of tombstones including his own family's. Surviving Greek Jews never received compensation for the confiscation of the land under the destroyed cemetery, upon which now partially rests Greece's largest university, Aristotle University, which also used Jewish gravestones as building material for its long-coveted expansion finally made possible by the dispossession and annihilation of the city's Jews. In 2014, 72 years after the cemetery's destruction and appropriation, a small memorial was established on campus grounds to acknowledge the Jewish cemetery the school is built on and with; the ceremony just 10 years ago involved the first-ever acknowledgement of the atrocities and apology from a Thessaloniki mayor. The memorial has been vandalised multiple times since its establishment.

"Well I WASN'T gonna watch the show about the deeply discriminatory wizard world that thinks slavery is cool and good with writing that constantly employs racist and homophobic and bigoted metaphors and language written by a violent transphobe who pals around with nazis that has stated multiple times that she considers all engagement with her work, ESPECIALLY monetary engagement (money that she uses millions upon millions of to fund discriminatory organizations and legislation by the way), to be validation of her views but you were kinda mean about it on tumblr so you've really twisted my arm here"

In 1939, Nazis held a rally at Madison Square Garden in New York City. In 2024, they're back. Please vote blue -- all the way down the ballot -- to preserve Democracy, and defeat these scum... again!

One thing I haven't seen anyone talk about much is how abysmally rude Garak is to his customers. He has the worst customer service ethic I have ever seen in my life. He gets confrontational and argumentative with them. He flings Morn's pants at him. He gets super sarcastic with Quark about his lapels. It really makes me wonder about Cardassian customer service in general. Is Garak typical for a Cardassian in the customer service field? Is he being rude and argumentative because that's how Cardassians flirt and he's trying to put his customers at ease? Or is this a symptom of the fact that he hates the circumstances of his life and kind of wants to punish everyone for his reduced station? Did his years as the second most powerful person in the Cardassian Union make him feel like he deserves better than to be talked down to by a Ferengi bartender? I feel like there's a case to be made for all of these scenarios.

When you teach Eleanor of Aquitaine to some 11 year olds and say, "she is beauty, she is grace, she will punch you, in the face", and they write it down like some serious historical analysis, and you can't even be mad because they now get how historical interpretation works, and those words did in fact come out of your mouth.

the thing people must understand is that many diaspora groups are filled with liberals. many groups of any kind are filled with liberals. and it is important to always wish curses upon these individuals for liberalism is a truly awful thing.

It's surreal, you know. To live at the time of the war. I'm sure those of you who has never faced a modern, full-scale invasion of the biggest European country will never comprehend the terrifying bizarreness of our existence.
Here I was walking the streets, just running some errands. Kharkiv is not as lively and crowded as it was up to the February '22, and it is now scarred and wounded. Everywhere you go there are remnants of the ruzzians' constant bombing.
Ruined civil buildings.
Eerie silhouettes of the unlit houses forsaken.
Bomb shelters or the directions on where to find the closest one.
Monuments for those who were murdered by ruzzians. Not putin. Not some selected few monsters wearing human skin. By thousands of ordinary ruzzians on and off our land.
And it's mental that when you walk these streets you are actually ready to die. You see the bright flashes lightening up the sky from time to time, though soundless, and you think calmly: "Oh, so we are under attack right now. Must be Iranian drones. Our heroes are taking them down, it seems. Hope I'm lucky to get to the metro before something falls on my head".
And you go on with your day. Under the sky cut with lightning-like slices meant to kill you for just existing. Breathing. Going outside to buy some cat food and see if the city is being decorated for the holidays.
For being Ukrainian.
I'm not sure that the western media covers these topics anymore.
"People are tired of you, you see".
"Just let them take whatever they want, we want to live the life we are used to, with ruzzians as our allies"
"It's only natural to become numb to your grief, it's been years"
"Every life taken is now statistic, not a separate human being".
"The gas prices rise, we'd rather sacrifice Ukraine to avoid that and shake putin's blooded hand"
"It's not our war. We might have taken all the nuclear and almost all conventional weaponry from Ukraine in exchange for the safety and protection guarantees, but who cares. Let's just pretend it never happened".
While the majority of the people were celebrating Christmas, we were under a massive attack. A very ruzzian congratulations. The best representation of their nature.
It's not the first time that happened. Every significant day of the year we know we will be bombed exceptionally persistent. I'm talking hundreds of missiles.
The more sacred the date, the better.
It's not the last time, either. Far from it.
These few days there is a glaringly obvious silence totally uncharacteristic for ruzzians at any ordinary day. And this is the worst.
Because we know what that means.
It means we are to not celebrate, but survive yet another New Year's Eve drowned in our blood.
It won't be on the front pages - our suffering is not merry and festive, not in the spirit of Christmas. No Jingle bells, just cries of pain and agony and loss. Too depressing. Too tiresome.
I just hope my family survives this year's end too. So I can post photos of Kharkiv as it wakes up in the spring.
And I wish you a happy New Year, celebrate it to the fullest for all of us - dead and alive. Listen to the original Ukrainian Carol of the Bells, hug your dearest and thank whoever or whatever you believe in for being blessed with a life of peace and quiet. Believe me - you are the lucky one.

Boyo in the Old Country, Part 4: Boyo Goes Home
Baz spent the rest of his Sicily trip exploring Ortigia and its surroundings. Here’s a city park feat. random Greek temple ruins.
Tumblr media
Also feat. this bus. Volkswagen, 1979, Groovy Tiger—lovely.
Tumblr media
The absolute highlight of Baz’s trip was the Neapolis Archaeological Park on the outskirts of Siracusa. Here he is in the Ear of Dionysus, which was one of the coolest things he’s ever seen.
Tumblr media
Baz would have liked to visually convey the magic of the space. However, he surprised himself (but no one else) by being such an unhinged frothing-at-the-mouth Indiana Jones fan that he got overexcited and forgot to take any more pictures. You’ll just have to imagine it.
Baz capped off his trip by watching the sun set over Siracusa harbor.
Tumblr media
Then paying one last visit to his favorite Ortigian.
Tumblr media
Ciao, bello.

Stay tuned for bonus content: Boyo behind the scenes

Welp. Just had the most horrifying realization.
What determines whether people want to punch Nazis or not isn’t the fact that they're Nazis.
People only want to punch Nazis when they disagree with them.
