The narwhal (Monodon monoceros), an iconic whale of remote Arctic waters, is widely known for its long, spiral tusk, which is really an elongated tooth. The tusk, which is predominantly found in males and can grow up to 10 feet long, is one of the most fascinating traits in nature and the inspiration for myths such as the unicorn. It is believed to play a role in competition for mates, including mating displays. The tusk may have other uses and its function is still debated, primarily because few people have observed how these elusive animals use their tusks in the wild. Limited field observations also mean that little is known about many other aspects of the behavior of this highly gregarious Arctic whale, including social and reproductive behaviors, how they adapt to changing environmental conditions, or whether narwhals engage in behaviors that are not linked directly to fitness, like play.

Finally got the colors I wanted to finish this.
I saw this article/photo from last year of a narwhal that was adopted into a pod of belugas in Canada and wanted to do a piece for it.

The Magical Races in the Sea of Gales (2/4): Selkies
The Selkies are perhaps the most mysterious of the magical people who live in the Sea of Gales. So mysterious and rare is a sighting, that it has been recorded incorrectly what animal they can turn into! Little do many know that not all of the narwhals can fly in the air and sing songs under the moonlight--only those who are Selkies, with their moonlit magic can do so. They keep to themselves, but there are a few legends surrounding them. They are great warriors, with the finest blades and weapons ever forged. There are also stories about them as loyal and loving spouses, who all return to the sea someday. Furthermore, one legend tells that the Selkies originate from the Emerald Isle, and that one of the many gods of the ocean, the Lady of Desolation, may have created the Selkies to give freedom to the inhabitants of the Emerald Isle who refused to submit to Thulian rule. If you should be so lucky to see a Selkie in human form, you will know them by the gray and white hair, like the moonlight and the narwhals whose shape they take.
Read more about them in my high fantasy pirate novel, To Sail on Seas of Sky!

How the fuck do narwhals exist, but unicorns don't?
We have horses, and we have other creatures with four legs and horns, but nature was like "Lol, nah I'mma put a horn on a small whale".

I have been so busy with cleaning so I can create an art studio I haven't been able to actually create art!
Here are some cutie little narwhals
I have spent every day for the past week shampooing the carpet because it's so soaked with dirt and fertilizer; someone decided to grow plants in there without ripping the carpet up, so it's a huge mess, and I don't have the finances to replace it, sadly.
It is getting so close, though! And in the effort to clean that space, I am realizing I also need a mobility aid. That will be interesting to navigate.
Can't wait to move past the cleaning phase and start moving things in and learn the new space to see how it should be set up.
