A peaceful morning waiting for my parcel to go on delivery. These lately tend to arrive in the middle of lunch hour. Earlier, some altercations in mindspace, as forces of good try to corral the evil created by mishandling and misunderstanding the situation. It’s no one party’s fault. Like they say in the marines, “just suck it up”.
I am starting anew trying to write my first novel, for young adults, codenamed BaH. All previous attempts had failed after just a few days. This one must be the golden idea I need.
As usual, I ran and worked out, pre dawn. Now I have to adhere to a healthier diet as well. I have a blood test late this month on the folks’ orders. Using me to hide their innards in worries them no end. Even so, they still get payback.
So it may be a year or so before Najib is released from Kajang prison, on good behavior. A good compromise from the Agong and PM. He’s a lucky man, a survivor and maybe he will do Malaysia proud one day soon.

DISCOVERY ABOUT JUDGE NAZLAN AND HIS WRITTEN JUDGMENT:
"Najib Razak established and formed SRC for the purpose of 'stealing' money." REALITY:
Maybank recommended the establishment of SRC and was paid RM800,000 for it (including all policies/procedures, organizational structure, business model, short and medium-term plans, etc.) at that time. Nazlan himself was the Chief Legal Advisor and Company Secretary for Maybank.
Strangely, this evidence was not allowed to be accepted in Najib's appeal to the Federal Court, even though it directly contradicted Judge Nazlan's findings in his written judgment.
Nazlan not only failed to declare his conflict of interest but also made findings that contradicted facts that he should have known since attending monthly meetings at Maybank, including meetings involving 1MDB directly. HEY! It was not Najib's idea or directive to establish SRC, it was Nor Mohd Yakcop who assessed and recommended to Najib and the cabinet to establish SRC. Soon after, we discovered that Nor Yakcop had received RM85 million from 1MDB the year before recommending SRC, which he kept in a proxy account in Singapore under his nephew's name.

From Memes to Political: How Jokes Shape Our Views
MDA2009 DIGITAL COMMUNITIES
!! Friendly reminder: Before you read and begin with this week's discussion, let me warn you guys real quick that I am not  a “biG FaN” of Politic (I’m being serious and not even joking). If you spot any errors or have fun facts to share, let me know!
Now, let me kick off with some big facts that memes are everywhere these days, especially in Malaysia. For example, you can easily get your daily meme dose through MGAG Instagram page where they will share anything that is viral from day to day and share it to the audience just to make people smile after going through a hard week.  Whether it’s a joke about politicians flip-flopping on policies or a sarcastic take on the latest political scandal, memes have taken over our news feeds. If I’m being honest, politics isn’t just confined to parliament anymore, it’s right there, in front of our phone screen through WhatsApp group chat, Facebook and Twitter (X) timelines, mixed with viral videos and jokes that will leave us laughing and wondering, “Hold up, is this actually true?”.
Tumblr media
example MGAG meme picture cr: MGAG
Here’s the big question,
Do these “memes offer” any real insight into politics, or are they just a distraction? Well spoiler alert, I think it's both for me. Memes might seem like harmless fun, but they play a serious role in shaping public opinion and political engagement, especially for the younger generations.
Tumblr media
Where does the word Meme, Meem or Meh-may, come from?
I know some people are wondering what does memes mean? According to (Benveniste, 2022), the term "meme" has appeared in the New York Times Crossword a remarkable 60 times since its debut in the 1940s (Benveniste, 2022). While pinpointing the very first meme is challenging, British evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins is credited with coining the term in his 1976 book, The Selfish Gene. Dawkins originally likened a "meme" to a "phoneme," which is the smallest sound unit in speech, or a "morpheme," the smallest meaningful component of a word, according to Kirby Conrod, a linguistics professor at Swarthmore College (Benveniste, 2022).
Tumblr media
At first, memes were all about humor, silly jokes that went viral for no reason. But over time, they evolved into a kind of social commentary. Consider Malaysia as an example. Memes like “Malu Apa Bossku”, connected to Najib Razak, the former sixth Prime Minister of Malaysia, helped rebrand him with a more approachable image despite his involvement in scandals. Political parties and leaders use social media as a tool to promote as well as condemn rival parties and leaders, including character assassination (Zamri et al., 2020). Memes simplify complicated political situations and make them easier to understand, especially for you people.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then we have Zunar, a political cartoonist and total legend in space, who uses his work to push back against Malaysia's repressive structures. His cartoons go beyond humor; they provide an alternative view of Malaysian history and national identity, challenging official narratives around culture, nationhood, and citizenship (Yean, 2011).
Through his art, Zunar takes bold jabs at politicians and policies, crafting cartoons that often spread widely as memes. These memes not only reimagine politics with humor but can also foster a sense of togetherness, shaping identities and highlighting the divide between 'us' and 'them' in political discourse (Mortensen & Neumayer, 2021). Zunar’s work highlights what many people are feeling and gets them talking about important issues. His cartoons are a perfect example of how humor can be a form of protest and resistance.

Why Memes Work and Their Limits in Political Understanding
Memes are effective because they make politics feel less intimidating, fostering solidarity among like-minded individuals and making political critiques more accessible. However, while this humor fosters engagement, there’s also a risk of trivializing serious issues or fueling hyper-polarization, which can sometimes limit how widely these memes circulate and may push users toward other forms of civic engagement (Penney, 2019).
For many young Malaysians, memes simplify complex issues and make them more relatable, turning topics that might seem overwhelming into something fun and shareable. This helps build a sense of connection, where people feel they’re not alone in their views.
Tumblr media
However, while memes can grab attention, their humor can also trivialize serious issues, reducing complex political discussions to jokes. This can lead to hyper-polarization, where people take sides quickly, hindering meaningful conversation. Additionally, memes often rely on emotions like sarcasm or anger, which can rally people but are less conducive to in-depth discussion.
Tumblr media
For a lot of young Malaysians who might not follow every move in parliament, memes break down complicated stuff in a way that’s fun and relatable. They turn big topics into things you actually want to share and chat about. So in the end, memes don’t just make politics easier to follow but they make it something you actually want to talk about with your friends.
Tumblr media
Final Thoughts,
Do you think memes help us understand politics? Well it's a yes and no. They’re a quick, entertaining way to engage with issues, but memes alone aren't enough, we need to look beyond the jokes and dig into the fact too.
Political memes, like Zunar’s art, can be entertaining, educate, and inspire change. However, they should be seen as a starting point, not the entire story. While memes can make us laugh, it's important to dig deeper and stay informed.

Stop calling it unprecedented!
The big picture: In reality, leaders who left office since 2000 have been jailed or prosecuted in at least 78 countries — including in democracies like France, Israel and South Korea.
Since 1980, around half of the world's countries have had at least one such case, and that's not counting impeachments or coups. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's ongoing corruption trial Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan's home was surrounded this month in a botched attempt to arrest him, while former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak remains in jail after a judge this week threw out a challenge to his corruption conviction Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, Argentina's current vice president and former president, was convicted of fraud but remains in office and out of prison because her position carries immunity   Like Trump, Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy had his home searched after leaving office. He was convicted in two separate cases in 2021 and sentenced to prison   In South Korea, former President Park Geun-hye was sentenced to 24 years for corruption. Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has been in and out of court for three decades and was temporarily barred from seeking office due to a tax fraud conviction We were only considering leaders who held the most powerful political office in each country
And don't forget Spiro Agnew who was indicted while serving as Vice President. He later resigned and pled guilty to one felony. Nixon resigned to avoid prosecution and impeachment.
Trump will just be the most egregious, but then, he's the biggest crook of the lot.

Writing tomorrow’s submission is going well. I overcame mid story block to cruise towards the resolution. Just a matter of writing it well from now on. Had a ramen and coffee for supper. Tomorrow, another short run, maybe a partial upper body workout as well. My right arm still hurts from the slow release intramuscular Arip jab this morning. Still alert and awake despite taking a Rivotril. Hope my humble story will be accepted. I’ve never been published except by myself, indie.
Feel like lying down now and closing my eyes. Tomorrow, we’ll see if Najib was pardoned. Maybe how the US will retaliate for the tower 22 attack. Have the airond on, set to economy mode as cooler air helps me sleep. Well, see you guys tomorrow…

Najib In Jail For Seizing Mahathir's Crony IPP Project
During the era of Tun Doctor Mahathir, the Independent Power Producer (IPP) was controlled by several companies such as Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar, YTL, Genting Sanyen, and Tan Seri Ananda Krishnan, which is the Tanjong Energy Holding. Therefore, 1MDB was instructed to purchase two Tanjong Energy Holding companies that agreed to be sold. Genting Sanyen agreed to sell and when 1MDB through its subsidiary, Edra Energy, took over these two electric power generation plants, they controlled fourteen percent of the country's electricity generation.
Although Syed Mokhtar still holds twenty-five percent and YTL holds half of the power generation, TNB still generates the other half. However, when 1MDB or Edra Energy holds fourteen percent, during tender, their price is nine cents cheaper than Tun Mahathir's four cents and one cent cheaper than TNB itself.
Therefore, the benefit eventually reaches the people, because in 2015, for the first time in history, we successfully reduced electricity tariffs. Imagine if Datuk Najib had the intention to hold fifty percent of the country's electricity production at that time.
1MDB took over all IPP, so subsidies were no longer given. Many people did not know that Tan Sri Ani Arope was actually angry not because Tun Doctor Mahathir gave them four cents to supply electricity to TNB, but because the eight cents was more expensive than TNB. In addition, they enjoyed gas subsidies. This gas subsidy is worth one hundred and fifty-five billion ringgit for twenty-one years.
Actually, the concept of 1MDB is good. However, confusion occurred when Jho Low conspired with Zeti Akta Aziz, Nor Mumamad Yakob, Nik Faisal, and two people detained today at KLIA who were involved in embezzlement.
