Escape from New Yolk is so funny!

Like, this is an entire episode full of an eight year old child ordering around the most powerful group of mobians in the city who are all older than him and have a lifetime of fighting experience. 😂

They're all taking orders from him and nobody is able to question him or say no whether they want to or not.

one of my favourite things about early-seasons nu!who is that the doctor swans into rose’s life and is so dismissive of it (and by extension the life of her family and friends), contrasting it over and over to the wonders of space and time travel, but while that is undoubtedly awestriking and all that, there’s a point made multiple times that this attitude is wrong -- the show portrays the domestic as a wonderful life, and you see that the doctor is desperately lonely and actually craving this experience and there’s a mix of things (coming out of the time war as an initial sole survivor, having had to live with knowing that getting too close to mortals means experiencing them ageing and dying, etc) that go into the various periods of detachment 

and i like that because this foundation exists, one can extend it to later in the show (which hasn’t always landed with me) to analyse when the doctor chooses to be less relatable, or is unconsciously becoming less relatable to mortals by styling the self as a god of some kind or at least so inherently alien that you couldn’t possibly understand or get close, and when those walls get knocked down 

the tl;dr is that the complexity of christopher eccleston’s performance was a gift that’s rippled throughout the whole story
