This is exactly what I was complaining to my friend about few days ago. He told me to shut up, that as a fan I should take this underused character and use him to the fullest. And I guess??

Tbh, I often feel like there's no good idea what to do with him. He just… exist. No one knows what to do with him, or don't care to do anything interesting with his character.

He sings about having harsh history but we don't see it. Make him suffer. Make him struggle. Make him change and develop as a character.

It reminded me about this old long fanfic I was once writing that was just Poland trying to survive all the years of partitions. Becoming romantic, and then changing to positivist. It was also exploring the topic of national personality, and how it developed in partitioned countries versus not partitioned.

It always bothered me with this series that it's not exploring historical nor political themes in any interesting ways. And we have personified nations, for fuck's sake. By political I don't mean modern politics, rather it's more wide definition. It started in prehistory and even chimpanzees have their own kind of politics.

And as much as I enjoy relationship between Poland and Lithuania I don't like that usually Liet is portrayed as doing everything, and Poland is barely able to tie his shoelace. I hate that sometimes this makes me like Liet less, when I see him taking all the credit for things they did together.

I wish they were portrayed as equally strong and capable characters, you don't have to make Poland some buff, big guy. He's fox more than a lion. Small, and maybe not so strong physically, but smart and intelligent and cunning. Being able to get away from troubles, just through manipulating situation by words. He's still dumb sometimes, but not totally brainless.

And why always he has to hang out with Liet. What about Czechia and Slovakia, Ukraine, Turkiye, or any other character. There is so much potential with paring him with others. So much fun chemistry to explore.

And it's not just the problem I have with Poland. I'm not a big fan of Ukraine and Belarus portrayal as well. I think I expect from this series much more than it's going to ever give me. Thats why I'm no longer interested in canon, like i used to, and rather see fanarts and read fics. I know the series is technically a parody, but still, I'd love to see something more.

That was long, but i felt the need to vent a little bit.

I kinda thought that's just me feeling that way, but seeing other people with that feel, gives me more motivation to revisit old works, like this fanfic. To be fair, when i started writing this my knowledge was not enough for such a project. But the frustration makes me everyday more motivated to do him justice. Even if it's just fanwork and never be canon

Feliks is such a good character I wish he was in something that wasn't Hetalia so that his character could be developed and expanded and we could see the complexities that canon only hints at

I was too lazy to look up some more interesting clothing, well, actually no. I know if I was to start lookng fo references I would end up reading some misc history stuff for at least 5-6 hours instead of doing my job

Drawing... it's like fighting a hydra, I've finished one sketch and there's 3 more ideas in my head already. I would make much more, but my wrist is aching and I'm tired

So, more sketches tomorrow. I'm going to sketch as many ideas as I can, and then I'll be slowly making it into full coloured illustrations.
