Ok about the episode after sun killing nexus...MOON BASICALLY IGNORED SUNS FEELING! LIKE YEAH I UNDERSTAND NEXUS TRAUMATIZED HIM BUT WHY NOT HUG SUN!? MOON DID A BETTER JOB COMFORTING SUN AFTER HE FOUND OUT ABOUT DAZZLE BEING A CHILD OF THE JULY 16TH KILLING! SOLAR WAS THE ONLY ONE CONCERN AND CHECK ON SUN! MONTY DIDN'T ACTUALLY CARE HE ONLY CARED ABOUT TELLING EARTH! LUNAR BASICALLY IGNORED SUN HAS BEEN TRAUMATIZED AND I ALREADY HAVE BEEF WITH LUNAR ABOUT SOMETHING HE DID IN THE PAST! SUN WAS BASICALLY FORCED TO END SOMEONE HE LOVED AND CARED FOR LIFE! Moon basically comforted sun after he found out that dazzle was Evelyn! He let sun talk about the July 16th kids and listened to sun allowing him to feel comfort because he actually listened to sun. Did he listen to sun in this episode? NO! Like I already got beef with moon and lunar already but not monty because I never really payed attention to there character because they didn't pop out to me but I'm angry at them too but I understand their reason too because telling earth would be hard since she basically grew up with nexus! But also...Sun has also grew up in a way with nexus...Sun had a healthy relationship from what I've seen with nexus before he went insane.

- Okay, so Eclipse would difinetely find it strange at first, but it doesn't mean that he wouldn't be greatful about it

- He is the one who usually protects you, but he won't conplain if you switch this

- He is also not really used to it so it will feel weird for him and probably take some time him to get used to it

Do you have headcanons for the characters of the shows? If so, could you put 1 headcanon for each character so far??

I have quite a lot of headcanons actually! ^^ Most of them are pretty small and insignificant, but here are some more interesting ones:

Sun- Whenever his mental state gets really bad, he likes to get wine drunk and rewatch the same 3 films that always make him cry.

Moon- Reads dumb fanfics about their show when he's bored and sends the funniest parts into the family group chat, acting like it's something they actually did.

Lunar- Struggles with maladaptive daydreaming.

Earth- Tends to fall into different rabbit holes while watching tiktok and documents all her findings in a designated notebook before infodumping to Monty.

Solar- Struggles with chronic nightmares and feels a bit ashamed of it, so he never talks about it.

Nexus- Struggled with hallucinations until the day he died. At first, they were pretty realistic, but the longer he took NSP, the more distorted and disturbing they became.

Eclipse- Deals with passive suicidal ideation while also being terrified of dying.

Jack- Picks up rocks that he finds cool and leaves them all over the house, Sun isn't a fan of this lol.

Ballora- In her free time, she learns to sew because she really wants to start making her own clothes in the future.

There’s no pain quite like an average JRPG having cool concepts you wish more games would do.

Why did Zesteria have to be the game to do real time fusion battle mechanics!? I need someone to try again.

I need a Final Fantasy X-3. Not because I miss Tidus and Rikku, but because I want a party of at least five different characters dripped out of their minds with the dress sphere mechanics. Cruelest monkey’s paw was Lightning Returns bringing it back somewhat but she has no teammates.

Scarlet Nexus is so cool and so boring at the same time that it needs to be studied. Clearly there were people on that development team with sauce and not enough money or time! I love the concept of borrowing powers or synergies!

There’s a Yin to every Yang. If Scarlet Nexus is the Yang, then Code Vein is the Yin. I know it’s basically a souls-like but the power system alongside having a partner made me wish it had more money. I did everything in that game despite its SORRY EXCUSE FOR A MAP.

The more I look at the things I name, the more I’m starting to think maybe my real beef is with Bandai Namco. I say that but Xillia was everything I wanted. Maybe that’s why it stings so bad.

I don’t know if this is a hot take but I would sacrifice shotlocks for D-Links. Fuck situation commands, they could’ve been cooler command styles but it’s something that can’t describe! What sucks is Aqua HAD IT!

Alrighty spoilers for tsams (10/29/24-11/2/24)

Okay so Nexus arc over for now. My thoughts? Mid as hell. He didn't do anything??? Idk the end of this arc felt super rushed and just like filler. Ofc i'm not complaining too much, it's an internet series run by two dudes chilling.

Nexus was a cool concept but there was soooo much wasted potential. Like with KC and Solar Flare. And we called that Ruin's thing that he put into Nexus' chest was a different thing than what he said. So we saw that coming. But Still. Wasted story arc in my opinion.

As for Dark Sun, I feel like his whole existence was unnecessary. Nexus could've been a standalone villain. Yeah, he indirectly caused Nexus' spiral, but he was overall unnecessary. We have no clue what his motives were, no clue about him in general, and just- why is he here again? He was a character from a what if episode. I feel like he should've stayed there.

Now I did enjoy that this arc is over because it's arguably my least favorite but Moon right now is just-

MOON. WHAT THE FUCK.

Yes we know you're not good with emotions but we know you are at least capable of an "Are you okay?" Solar should not be the only one there to comfort Sun after what happened with Nexus!

You said it yourself, you know how bad it is when you've murdered someone, the least you can do is go up there and talk with Sun so he's not so lonely!

I feel like they're doing the thing where a character gets written in a way that doesn't fit what we've seen in the past. This time with Moon. And arguably Solar but we know he and Sun are a bit closer now than before.

Anyway TL:DR: parts of this arc made no sense, i'm not particularly happy with how it ended, and Moon's writing rn makes no sense. AKA "Moon, why?"

I just came across idea or what if scenario for ROTTMNT. It just concept I came across in my mind. What if one of turtles was owned someone else before Draxum? Like

Tang Shen for an example?

And since red eared slider are common turtles for getting as a pet what if one of those red eared sliders would be…

It would be just like from the original version (the first TMNT comic) where she bought him in a pet store to have a company, maybe even carry him around in aquarium tank (like Yoshi in 2012 version), but then suddenly something bad happens and she losts Leo in process, while Leo ends up in hands of Draxum. Leo doesn’t remember because he was too young and wasn’t mutated, but he does remember the gentle feeling Shen gave him.

Years later the boys going on New York Halloween Party, April tells them about. The boys are dressed up in their wrestling costumes while April is dressed up as Jackie Jaquelin, the moderator (hope I say that right😅)…. Well everyone except Leo who instead is dressed up as Lou Jitsu with his costume from Battle Nexus and Raph’s black wig to complete look (because SOMEONE thought it was good idea add red mask into washing machine along with his Primetime costume). Once they’re at the party they separates to have fun. Leo is wandering around, some people complicates his costume and he enjoys until he notices a man trying to flirts with woman and won’t leave her. Normally he wouldn’t bother to involved in someone’s affair, but for some reason he couldn’t ignore this. He asks man to leave woman, but be surprised that is Kris Bradfort, dad’s rival (yeah that guy). Kris wants to punch Leo (mistaking him for Lou Jitsu, although Leo has no problem to defend himself), only to scream in horror. Leo is confused, but he then sense something on shoulder and realize it’s a snake. He almost freaks out too, but the woman calms him down telling that’s her pet and she’s harmless. Then the woman thanks Leo and introduce herself as, you guessed it,

Tang Shen.

Leo is naturally excited to meet one of actress from Lou Jitsu movies and Shen is happy to meet a fan. However Leo suddenly have a strange deja vu feeling like he knows her personally, same for Shen as she asks him if they have before, only to Leo says no and he might look like Lou Jitsu although says that’s not it.

I just thought I give turtles a mother figure and this would a oerfect opportunity to give Rise version of Tang Shen some character. And I also gave her pet named Miwa.

Laveau Rambles - Diversity-ish in my work

I've recently sparked an inner monologue with myself on the topic of diversity and representation in NeXus because these are things that matter to me and I introspect on what my values on the topic are as a VA and an artist. I know it helps to make people who aren't seen often in media feel less lonely in the world. One feels more empowered to believe there is a community for themselves out there and that's why I make diverse characters.

That said, the monologue I had with myself is identifying where diversity begins and where that line ends for myself as a person who is not genetically made up of all the races in the human species.

Let me explain; I am indian/african/carbbean indigenous (kalinago)/white and that's it. I am not chinese, nor filipino and I'm definitely not mexican, which makes me take into account that I am not above perpetuating racism against other people in an attempt to represent them.

I am fully capable of fumbling that at some point and I take to try not to do that because a.) that would be embarassing on my part frankly and b.) my intentions are to always shine a light on other people and provide others with exposure to folks outside of their own perspective, not to use them for entertainment. I can only speak to the list of experiences that I am accustomed to partaking in so that makes writing for characters of other races hard.

Which it should be...because condensing the experience and perspective of people who are not living life under the lens I do is not easy. It takes work. It takes research, long hours of reading, listening and parsing through personal stories and accounts of things I cannot and am not able to be there for and that's work I want to do.

I want to try and see how I can push folks who are like and unlike myself into the sight of others who don't understand their culture or know the issues that they face under a largely white capitalistic society because there are legitimate issues to talk about, especially given how deeply those issues run in places we don't expect to see them in (I am talking about fandom). I find joy in learning how people see the world, hearing what defines their lens of society and being witness to other people understanding that the world is bigger and brighter than they thought because it's fun to me.

With that in mind, I am not perfect. I can push and produce narratives that miss points about certain cultures and that's my bad when I do and if I have done it thus far. As a writer, I want to be able to show people the cool things and the deeper understandings that people have about the world while telling a story. I want different points of view to affect how characters interact with each other and see that world which influences the themes of the story because I know that putting a indian character in a cast not mean that's representation; seeing a character who looks like myself and responds and reacts to things with the same attitudes and beliefs that I hold and the perspective I have is representative to me. Especially when done well.

Why ramble about this then? Well, mostly to show that you are allowed to doubt yourself in how you go about producing media. It's fine. There are no police who will knock on your door for having a hard time learning about and unlearning things. I think it's ok to struggle in it because struggle shows that you're somewhat trying (so long as you're like actually putting in work and research to actually show for it). It's hard work and it can sometimes be personal because it involves understanding perspectives that can vary in difference to your own and it's sometimes not something you want to let other people see for fear of judgement. I however want to do that because I see value in it.

All that to say, it's hard but it' also weird to not try. Like, bring about a refusal/acknowledgement to event attempt diversity/representation in your work. You're within your rights and there are no police who will come after you, but it's weird to present forward. Sometimes that's because your particular piece/narrative does not necessarily need that diversity because its themes are not entirely relevant to the idea of diversity which is like ok. It's a very context based thing and you can do that. It's still weird though.

Your theory on what was going on with Nexus was so good. But I have 0 faith that they're going to say he has a virus when he comes back (and he's a villain now he's gonna come back), because the show has been pretty adamant on Ruin not having one (even with evidence) and Bloodmoon only wanting blood, not needing it (even with evidence) T_T

The way I see it, the villains that have come back have been as new people. Eclipse and Bloodmoon both were rebuilt by Ruin, they didn't actually 'come back'*. And the thing is, Nexus has already come back as a new person

Old Moon is Nexus' rebuild, or rebuild equivalent. There's no need to bring Nexus 'back' cos... he's already here.

Unless Nexus comes back as a Backup, in which case he'd be picking up right where he left off as bad guy. Which... is not a thrilling thought.

But I agree that they're not gonna say he has a virus-- mostly cos I don't think he has one either. I think he's just got brain poisoning from dark star energy encouraging him to come to the worst possible conclusions. Like how Eclipse became even MORE paranoid and erratic when he had the star.

However, you're probably right in that they're just going to gloss over how Nexus got manipulated into this, either by a virus or other means, and make it seem like it was all his 100% sound of mind decisions to lash out at his family and attack them. Cos that's cool, I guess 8/

(Ironically, this would also make Old Moon the only character with a confirmed virus driving their actions-- the killcode)

*Eclipse is actually an entire mess because he DID come back from the dead once, as the Backup. And now the Rebuilt version is technically a new person, but he has memories from the Backup and Original that he really should not have, and it's just. Yeah. Spiders Georg over here.

Also also djgjll the headcanon I follow about Ruin's virus is that he WAS affected, but his symptoms were milder/different, so he THINKS he was asymptomatic. Cos when you think about it, it would have benefited Ruin way more to appear sympathetic when he first showed up, maybe had more signs of 'fighting' the virus or whatever, instead of trying to play Knife Tag with Moon. I know the real reason is they retconned a lot of stuff with him later but still.....

I feel like i'm the only one who's kinda neutral? (Idk a better term ) about Nexus dying? Which is weird, considering that i loved him as a character. I am not happy about him dying, but i'm not sad either. I just want to see more Sun, Solar and Earth angst. Like they mourn the death of their former brother, of who he used to be before going insane- also Sun having hallucinations about Nexus sounds like a cool angst idea.

And Ruin finally can have some peace??? I hope he will, man did not deserve to relive his trauma. I hope he can find another dimension to live in.

ygo5dsmonth/Week 2024 Day 4 - iDuel

Since the prompt is music, I thought we could talk about the visuals in the 5D's openings maybe? So here are my favorite parts, and some things I noticed in general

Opening 1 Kizuna

The beginning with the Signers, Godwin and the dragon marks looks super cool. Too bad I don't like the music that goes along with it, haha. A little Jack and Yusei heavy, but it's alright, at least the side characters get time to shine too

Opening 2 Last Train

It's soooo good, a like practically everything here. The new characters and monsters get presented well, and everyone has some solid screen presence. The coolest parts are the view of the Dark Signers in their lair, Kiryu appearing on his D-Wheel, and the Signers at the end (the Dark Signers look cooler though, sorry fellas)

Only thing that bothers me is how Godwin shows up so little in the opening, he's (barely) more in the ending ffs, and he's the final villain of this arc. I know that was a twisted plot twist and I'm the only one who cares, but still

Opening 3 Freedom

Phew, the opening wastes no time to tell you that this is the Yusei/Jack/Crow show now, Rua, Ruka and Aki get into the back right now! And if you're focusing so heavily on the boys at least let them do something other than standing/driving casually, you're not really hyping me up like this OP. Fun fact: this was the first japanese opeining the german dub decided to leave in, after they started dubbing the 4kids version and did their own synchro

Why should I care about the stupid WRGP (You're a grand prick!) again? Sigh, tournaments for the sole sake of getting better at something work better before you save the world from certain doom (but that's a writing problem not an opening problem)

The Majestic/Savior dragons look cool at least, and I like that this sequence kinda mirrors the dragons from Last Train, just in their evolved forms

Opening 4 Believe in Nexus

The villains get to look cool for a hot minute, damn. Although Lucciano is the only one with rollerblades, so him sliding and everything makes sense. The other two...are robots and ignore how uncomfortable this should be

Sherry too? They must feel really sorry for having to remove her from the plot

Ally of Justice monsters, so scary! Isn't that the archetype that only ever had one good monster, a generic synchro? But of course everyone has to be dumbass in this arc and plays light monsters, which Ally of Justice is strong against

Opening 5 Road to Tomorrow-Going My Way!!

This is intense as you can see on the two exclamation marks in the title. At long last the other Signers get to be something other than background filler. Also it's so fuckin funny how Yusei and Crow roll out all their Synchros, even those they don't use anymore

and meanwhile Jack...

I refuse to play anything besides Red Demon's Dragon!!!

the thing about gravitation is that like. it had all the pieces in place to be a legendary piece of yaoi history. it had a cool, now-nostalgic style, a fun story, INCREDIBLY unique characters and bold plotlines. like the nexus of the whole series is how the love interest (yuki) has become cold and closed off bc of being groomed and abused by an older man as a child.

and then like.

i dont know, over the course of the series the (18/19 year old) protagonist just starts looking younger and younger in a very weird way.

volume one versus volume eight. yuki, who you'll notice looks largely the same in terms of age, is in the background. he is 22, barely much older than shuichi.

and like. ok whatever he LOOKS younger that's kinda weird. but then murakami started making porn of shuichi like this. ok weird but not as bad as it could be since he's still an adult. then she just starts making out and out shota porn, repeatedly. ok. cool. you gave us a great story about the poison of sexualizing children and its impact and now you just do that for funsies. cooooooool. i'm not mad.

Thoughts on issue #2 of The Scarlet Witch?

I liked it a lot. I think this volume, so far, has much better pacing and momentum than Orlando's previous entries. I did like the episodic structure of the 2023 series, but it started to drag in the back half of the series, and neither of the main villains felt like active, present characters. With SW&Q, I felt, at times, like the characters were rushing around just to have vague conversations, and I walked away feeling like I didn't properly understand what was going on with Wanda's powers.

In the new volume of Scarlet Witch, the entire cast is fully involved in the plot from the start, and it make a huge difference. Everything feels well-balanced and the story is moving at a steady pace. Again, I don't think there's anything wrong with how either of the previous entries were structured, but Orlando-- who I think is particularly bad at endings-- needed more breathing room. This is just a more comfortable rhythm, and it works like a charm.

In terms of the actual story-- I'm really excited about everything that's happening. This issue did a great job tying together a bunch of disparate lore and mythology, which I love. Turning the "land of the dead" from Scarlet Witch & Vision into a special afterlife branch of the Witches' Road was so cool, and it was a perfect way to set the stage for Lore's return.

Speaking of villains-- Moridun fits the setting and was a smart pull, since he's got history with Wanda's family. The possession felt extraneous, since I assume that it will be dealt with very quickly in the next issue, but the visuals were cool, and it might be part of how Billy gets brought into the story by #4. I'm still not sure why Wanda changed into her green costume-- Orlando uses a lot of affected dialogue, and sometimes it makes weird magic stuff like this hard to follow. I'm also excited to see Darcy negotiating with Hexfinder next month!

The Never Queen is an exciting addition, and using her to redefine both nexus beings and universal chaos magic was super smart-- it allows Wanda to have that big, cosmic significance without making her a brutally overpowered or "crazy" reality warper, as other writers have done. I've always hated the idea that Wanda and/or Billy will become, essentially, omnipotent gods, so I really appreciate when writers ground their world-changing powers in a way that feels more specific and well-suited to the characters. Wanda choosing to delay entropy and, one day, avert heat death feels in-character, and it gives the Griever a reasonable motive. I've previously shared a similar idea to ground Billy's Demiurge powers.

I particularly appreciate the decision to include Pietro in the nexus being lore, and I hope that Orlando is able to follow that idea to its logical conclusion, which would, in my mind, mean actually naming him as a nexus being as well. I've always wanted Pietro to get an upgrade that would put him and Wanda on equal ground, and I like that Orlando is doing that by strengthening their bond and restoring their trust in one another. This is more satisfying to me than most of the common fan theories.

Odd question.

Who would you say was more unfairly sidelined?

Angela Cross, Sasha Phyronix or Talwyn?

Hmm. That's an interesting one. Sure, I'll bite!

I guess this may be a bit controversial, but I don't really think Angela was "unfairly sidelined" at all. She had her place in the story in Going Commando, a prominent one at that, and despite me thinking her arc kinda sucks in GC, it doesn't erase the fact that her character was basically done after Going Commando. Her one goal was to stop Fizzwidget Qwark from releasing the crazy Protopet.

It's only now with ACiT and RA that Angela actually serves a purpose beyond Going Commando (and even saying that is a stretch, considering the purpose as of right now is just a mix between "where did she go?", "is she a lombax?", and the fact she is presumably with max apogee). She was never *intentionally* sidelined, in my opinion.

Overall, she was just a fan-favorite side character until they accidentally messed up with the whole "last Lombax" thing, and she didn't really seem all that important to the main characters beyond being a girl Ratchet thinks is pretty and wants to impress lol.

The other two, on the other hand... they both have it pretty bad.

Sasha is never brought up after Deadlocked's intro scene until the comics, post-ACiT. Even in the comics, Ratchet and Sasha's relationship is barely touched on, so we don't really have any idea of why they broke up besides that one site that claimed it was because of political differences. Sasha is treated like she wasn't important to the cast when she clearly WAS important to, at the very least, Ratchet. She isn't that important of a character to the story which is why I wouldn't be all that surprised if we don't see her again, but she was still IMPORTANT to a character and that alone means she deserved more than just an offscreen send-off in the comics.

It's like they specifically took Ratchet to a completely different galaxy so they could avoid past characters and introduce new ones, and OH HEEY WAIT A MINUTE, does this kinda sound familiar...?

Because it happened again. That's essentially the same thing that Rift Apart does. To avoid the elephant in the room (Ratchet's important relationships with other characters that would add to his hesitation with risking it all to go find the Lombaxes, i.e. Azimuth, Vendra, Talwyn, Cronk, Zephyr, Tachyon, etc.) they straight up just ignore having to talk about those characters by putting him in a position where they will never realistically be brought up— a different dimension, with new characters.

Despite Into the Nexus cementing Talwyn as an important character and RA being the sequel to Nexus, Rift Apart chooses to play it as safely as possible by vaguely mentioning her in one very easily missable dialogue that is, while cute, not important whatsoever towards Ratchet's inner conflict.

If this was the first time her character was treated like this, it wouldn't be a big deal... but this isn't the first time. She was (allegedly) axed from A Crack in Time, axed from Full Frontal Assault, had her role minimized in Into the Nexus, and was reduced to a credits cameo in Rift Apart. Anytime she DID have screentime, it was rarely spent developing her or her goals, and instead developing Ratchet's character and motivations.

Things do HAPPEN to Talwyn, but they happen so that she can be more relatable to Ratchet, not because it'll benefit her character.

In conclusion: sasha got the worst of it by being completely ignored until the comics because she was too cool and capable and will probably never show up again. angela isn't that bad because she still gets referenced and the door is still wide open for her to be included in a future game whenever IG decides they've had enough fun messing with going commando fans, but i do understand and sympathize with the pain of waiting over twenty years to see her again. aaaaand talwyn is a big ole mess but she's my mess so i love her no matter how many times they cut her from the games :D

Mama Said, 'Knock You Out'

(This is canon to the main story/canon to Ronin’s backstory btw)

Quick note: Ronin in this fic is a child. He is around 8 years old. He is ‘adopted’ by Big Mama (she just basically took him in and helped raise him?) but before that he lived on the streets.

Ronin’s first battle in the Battle Nexus is mentioned in the ‘The Ancient Art of Ninja Hide and Seek’ where Leo and Adriaen briefly come across an old video clip of his fight (along with other past fights he had been in)

Summary: Ronin was just a child, but Big Mama had big plans for him. So why not start him off in his debut as a battle nexus fighter?

Loud cheers echoed and shook the building. Was this even a building anymore? No, it was a cage.

Arena.

Battle Nexus.

Ronin didn’t dare try to take a step forward, his small body trembling as he backed up to escape the loudness, but his shell was met with the cool metal of bars.

He looked back to see he was caged in. No way of escaping but going forward. Two larger yokai on the other end of the barred wall, their eyes staring down at the turtle.

How the hell did he get into this mess? He knew Big Mama had something planned for him, she told him about it, just excluded the more ‘boring’ details of her vision for Ronin.

Big Mama had collected Ronin from his room, claiming that she needed him for something that only he could help with, so of course Ronin followed her like an obedient servant, turning corners before coming across the portal that led to the Battle Nexus. His heart thumped in excitement. He’s heard of the arena before but was never allowed to actually watch a fight.

So, if Big Mama was taking him personally to see the arena, then maybe this was just a surprise gift for him. He has been doing well and behaving since he was taken under the spider lady’s responsibility.

He entered the portal and once more trudged behind Big Mama closely, keeping up with her larger strides as she hums in amusement, every now and then gazing down at Ronin and smiling warmly at him.

She led him through a tunnel and towards a door, where inside was a room full of weapons. “Take your pick.” She had instructed, confused Ronin did so, his eyes laying upon a sword.

Was this a gift for him? Was she going to start training him properly? He already knew how to fight thanks to street life.

He had many questions, but he didn’t get a chance to voice them out as Big Mama exited the room, waving her finger to silently tell Ronin to follow. He did so.

They pass yokai of all kinds, some bowing in respect whenever Big Mama comes into their line of vision. They were mostly all armoured and had weapons in their hands.

Fighters.

Ronin beams, eager to see what Big Mama had planned for him today if she was willingly letting him come to the arena and seeing these yokai.

Distant cheering was heard, Big Mama paused and turned to face Ronin, giggling as she pats his head.

“Have fun my turtlyboo! And knock ‘em dead!”

Was all she said, ignoring the puzzled head tilt from the young mutant who was suddenly grabbed roughly by a fox yokai, a leopard on the other side of him as they dragged Ronin through another set of doors, the cheering growing louder.

Ronin was thrusted forward, where he lost his footing and collapsed, his sword he picked out falling to his side as he stared owlishly to see the two yokai locking him inside. Metal bars coming down from above the archway to separate Ronin from escaping.

Ronin gazed back to the only exit which was towards the loud cheering. It was sealed with another set of bars. He puts the pieces together and he clamps a hand over his mouth, bile of nerves itching its way up his throat as he hunches forward, hands on knees as he spews up the contents from his mouth.

Oh.

Oh.

He was going to fight in the arena. But…why? He was only a child with no proper training for this moment.

“Ladies and gentlemen! We have a new warrior joining us tonight! He’s a newbie so be kind to him!”

An announcer spoke out from the screens that hung above the arena, the crowd laughing as the cage-like door began opening.

Ronin picked up the sword, breathing heavily and wiping at his mouth, shuddering in disgust at himself before he cautiously walked forward. He had no choice but to head forward to the noise.

No choice but to fight.

“I present you…our youngest fighter!”

Ronin stepped into the light, wincing at the brightness as the crowd roared in laughter and obnoxious cheering. Instinctively, he gripped the hilt of the sword, trying to not appear scared as he felt the eyes of everyone on him.

“This young turtle will be fighting against…our fearsome competitor, the Brutal Beast!”

Ronin flinched upon seeing the yokai that resembled a bull storm out from the other side of the arena. The bull huffed as it stared down at Ronin who quivered.

Get it together…maybe Big Mama will come and stop this fight. She must, right?

Taking in a shaky breath, Ronin got into a fighting stance. The bull had snorted in utter amusement.

He had no weapon. His hands being the deadly force of nature, hence the name ‘Brutal Beast’.

“Fighters ready?”

Neither of them responded, not that it mattered if they were ready or not as the announcer waved their arm up before striking it down in the air.

“Fight!”

Brutal Beast roars and runs at Ronin who blinks, frozen on the spot.

Big Mama is coming to get him, right?

He lets out a pained gasp, his small body being slammed against the bulky fist of the bull yokai, sending him flying into the wall, a dent from the impact left behind as Ronin crumbled on the ground.

Wind knocked out of him as he gags and coughs on his air and saliva.

That really hurt.

Ronin wobbly stood on his feet, but he didn’t get much of a chance to recover as Brutal Beast hovered above him, picking up the young turtle by the lip of his plastron and swinging him back down on the floor, another wheeze from the mutant as he coughed up some blood.

His head was pounding. His small body bruised and already exhausted from being beaten senseless.

Why isn’t Big Mama coming to rescue him?

SLAM!

“Ngh!” Ronin groaned in a pathetic and pained whimper when he was kicked to the side, skidding against the ground as he twitched. His grip on the sword had been lost earlier from when he was picked up earlier.

The Brutal Beast was true to his name. He wasn’t holding back, and he basked in the cheers of the crowd that chanted his title.

To Ronin, everything was ringing, as he slightly crawled away to gain some distance, his vision was blurry as he looked up at the crowd, eyes scanning for a sign of the spider lady that took him in.

He caught her eye, optics widening in shock when he saw how she was smirking down at the fight, clearly enjoying herself.

She…isn’t coming.

Ronin felt his body go limp, before he let out a strained hiss when he was once more picked up by the shell.

Brutal Beast turned Ronin to face him as he held the turtle by his plastron, grinning at him. “Nothing personal kid.” Was what the bull said, shrugging his shoulders as he reached his other hand out to squeeze around Ronin’s neck.

She’s not coming…I have to…

Ronin watched as the hand inched closer to his face. Something in him snapped as he growled and lunged forward as much as he could, chomping his jaw down as hard as could on his attacker.

I have to fight and survive!

Blood trickled down the hand and some into his mouth as the Brutal Beast howled, dropping Ronin who spat on the floor, before glaring up and watching Brutal Beast snarl at him, holding his hand.

“You little prick! I’ll kill you!”

He aims for a punch, but swiftly, Ronin dodges by rolling away on time. He quickly got to his feet and sprinted in between the yokai’s legs.

The bull roars and follows after him. Plunging hands into the ground whenever he thought he was close to the smaller mutant's body. But Ronin was agile and quick on his feet as he stepped out of the way.

He sees his sword, running towards it.

He picks it up, relieved that he had a weapon in hand.

He was whacked to the side, groaning in pain, as he clutched at his stomach, but he was pleased with himself that he didn’t fall to his knees and managed to balance himself when he was hit.

He quickly held the blade up, blocking a strike from the bull who grunts when he was sliced on the knuckles.

Ronin backs up, sticking to defence as he keeps blocking and blocking. But the punches were growing stronger, no doubt the yokai was pissed off.

Ronin had to think of a plan. And fast.

He jumps back, missing the next lunge at him by an inch as he quickly trailed his eyes along his opponent's body. Looking for any weakness he could see. Or make.

There!

In between his legs, Ronin was small enough to use that to his advantage. And so, he ran towards the danger, ignoring how his body was begging for him to stop.

He twists the blade slightly to angle where he was going to cut. He jerks forward when he is close enough, feeling the tension between his blade and flesh from the yokai who doubled over and cried out in agony.

Ronin pants as he turns around, seeing the bull down on the ground and holding his damaged leg. It was oozing with blood, and the cut was deep. He would need medical attention right away, but this was the battle nexus.

Luxury like medical attention doesn't come until after the fight is over.

Ronin twitched as he strolls quietly to the injured yokai, tears prickling in Brutal Beast's eyes, before he looks up at Ronin who stood on top of him.

Brutal Beast glares bitterly before letting out a bark of laughter. Grinning up at him.

“You don’t have the guts to end me kid.”

He taunts, not noticing the faraway look that plastered Ronin’s face as he holds the sword up.

Big Mama’s words repeated in his mind.

'Knock ‘em dead.'

Brutal Beast continued to insult the young child, who had long ago ignored the comments, his eyes glimmered briefly as he swung down the sword.

The blade muting the yokai as Brutal Beast choked and shakily reached for the sword that impaled through his throat.

Ronin dug the blade as deep as he could, watching the life drain from the yokai’s face who soon lay limp under him.

The young mutant pants, chest heaving up and down as his body twitched and trembled. He knew his skin was going to be covered in bruises and cuts, but all he could focus on was the sound of cheering.

“We have a winner!”

One question still remained in Ronin’s thoughts.

How the hell did he get into this mess?
