Went to a different woods today, not far away, and saw some good birds.
This is a rufus-sided or eastern towhee, a recently returned migrant. They dig in the leaves with both feet. I let the video go on for a few seconds because at the end it makes the sound that got it its name.

A truck crash unleashing millions of angry bees? Gotta give it to the writers, only they can come up with such a crazy idea. I'm glad we live in the real world, not the 9-1-1 universe...
Or Australia. Or Missouri. Or Maine. Or Utah. Or Washington. Or Montana.
#New fear unlocked#Why does it keep happening?#Coming soon to a highway near you#911 spoilers#911 meta#911 abc

Not sure if there's anything official- based only on a vaguely similar shape and location and seemingly supported by the map pictures released by Dreamworks TV recently, would Yaz's island be Frank Island in Yellowstone National Park? Only for JWE2 building reference purposes 😁
It's possible it was used for some visual inspiration, but I think the EXACT location in Wyoming was probably meant to be a little vague, as a fictional location.
#jurassic world chaos theory#I didn't even know what part of Wyoming it was supposed to be exactly until DW released those maps#the only locations I knew for sure were Darius's cabin in the Lake Tahoe area#Sammy's ranch in the Texas hill country area#Brooklynn's apartment was originally supposed to be near Denver I think or at least at one point I was told Denver#because I actually picked the location of the drop off point in Oklahoma on the map and I tried to calculate a spot they could reach in tim#and then the last location I knew vaguely was the port somewhere off the coast of Louisiana haha#jurassic world#chaos theory#jwct#ask#it's usually better not to get too specific with fictional locations unless they're like... landmarks that everyone knows#also as a Texan I can't believe Sammy allowed Ben to take the I 10 all the way down the wrong way to San Antonio#And THEN the I-35 through Dallas and Norman on the way to Colorado#not only is that the long way#but it's also a truly AWFUL drive during rush traffic LOL#the correct route would have been to take highway 83 out of Junction and then make your way up to Amarillo and onward#Anyway this is just to say whoever put together the DW maps probably just used major interstates to loosely locate things#i'm not convinced they're 100% accurate

It's funny bc the people in my life who admonish me for not driving (specifically family) all hate driving so much. They hate the cost between payments, insurance, gas, repairs etc, they hate other drivers, they hate driving longer than 30 minutes, they hate having to park, they hate the car itself half the time, they hate the environmental impacts, they hate the constant fear of hitting an animal or pedestrian, they get out of the car in a worse mood than when they got in it, and they resent that they have to drive in the first place. my friend this is one of the few parts of the country with halfway decent transit. might I introduce to you the SmarTrip card and some patience
#like most people don't really have a choice (which is another thing that sucks) in this country#yes it can be inconvenient and limiting not to drive when i need to get somewhere quite far away#and the infrastructure in my immediate area is somewhat lacking compared to places i used to live#but. i save money. im safer. it's more sustainable. i can take a nap or put on headphones.#meanwhile i have been in three and a half near full speed crashes on the highway as a passenger with various drivers THIS YEAR#pass! hard fucking pass!#i do not understand the impulse to try and embarrass me for being a transit user. is it envy????#even my most expensive emergency uber splurges are usually cheaper than like. a parking ticket. a full tank of gas.

Seriously... what the fuck is going on with America and this world in general right now?
Three active shooter situations in one week?! Are you shitting me right now?!
#apparently there's some active shooter situation on the highway near kentucky right now or something#i just... i'm so upset right now. and am shock. and there's so much i could say about all of this right now#but that sounds like it's about me. and it's not. it's about the victims. and my heart goes out to all of them and their friends and#families oc. this sucks#and i hope this situation on the highway ends soon. and with few people hurt as possible#i guess i will say one thing: i could be dead wrong about this. but this happening three times in one week does read a little bit as copyca#to me. which is part of the reason why i think people shouldn't post pictures of killers or mention their names at all. a lot of the time#they're doing this for fame. don't give them what they want

Ben saying to Jay he doesn't want him to make the same mistakes he did, and Ben haters (some also hate Callum) are still like "Ben is a hypocrite, he is not perfect" Did you purposely ignore the part where Ben doesn't want Jay to make the same mistakes he did?

Nothing like wondering why there hasn't been another update on the nearby fires when there's always one around 8pm only to see my town 'trending' on Twitter (aka it probably saw me looking) and all I see there in the search is a bunch of people panicking and spreading misinformation, saying the town is surrounded by fire, everything is burning, etc. and yet we're not even under an evacuation alert. I fucking hate social media because even something like this gets people lying openly online.
#like -- the highways ARE closed because of fires near them#but they're not actually that close to us and the last few days have been pretty good for fire growth being kept minimal

today i learned that in 2013 in new zealand some poor guy was just driving around with his girlfriend when he was suddenly decapitated... and no one knows what hit him.
just as they passed an oncoming vehicle, his girlfriend said she saw an object fly through their windshield, kill her boyfriend, then exit through the back of the car. no one was ever able to actually find the object, or the other car/driver (they stopped after the accident, so they knew something happened, but then drove away from the scene) and forensic examination was never able to determine what it was based on the damage it did. the girlfriend described the object as beige and tissue box or brick-sized, and the evidence suggested it might have been or contained stainless steel, had a rough sandpapery texture, and probably had dirt on it (as it left behind a bunch of minerals common to the soil on the south island).
his name was rutger hale if you want to know more but there doesn't really seem to be a lot to know. it was almost certainly a horrible, tragic accident, and unless the other driver is identified we'll likely never know what the object was. there isn't a point to this post really i just found the story interesting
#i guess if you live in/near wanaka you might be able to wander around the edge of a highway and incidentally solve a decade-old mystery#i'm guessing if teams of professionals on multiple excursions weren't able to find it some random guy wouldn't be able to#but stranger things have happened and i'm not prone to inherently trusting the competency of law enforcement

A Black Bear Munching on Some Grass Along the Icefields Parkway (Banff National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: What a day to start off some time spend along the Icefields Parkway! Funny...strange...interesting, take your pick. This day with the drive started with a black bear and ended at pretty much the same spot with a grizzly bear. Both were walking and eating away at the grass in this meadow off the road.
