His Sacred Incantations NOW IN AUDIOBOOK FORM!
(Y'all I basically had to fistfight Adobe Premiere in an alley to get that preview made, please clap.)
Yes, Tumblr! It's happening! It has happened! The His Sacred Incantations audiobook is finally available, and you're hearing about it now! Fifteen hours of femdom fantasy adventure coming straight to your earholes! Bondage! Pegging! A really cool fight with a necromancer! At least one dragon! This story has everything, and now you can listen to it!
I am so, so delighted that Martin Martinez was willing to come back for the second book to complete Lucían and Glory's story. When I'm reviewing the audiobooks I no longer hear a narrator doing a voice, I just hear Lucían and Glory's voices, which is an incredible testament to Martin's performance. He had a fantastic time reading this (which I know for a fact because he reached out to me to say these were his favorite books he's never narrated) and that comes across in the audio.
Some narrators might be intimidated by a book that's 25% sex scene by volume (I did the math once) but not Martin! He put his whole ass and libido into reading the kink scenes, and then Antoine Bandele of AB Book Services took his raw reading and added musical stings and special effects that really elevate the entire auditory experience. It's truly everything I could possibly have wanted from an audiobook.
Also! In celebration of the book being available, I'm putting the His Secret Illuminations audiobook on sale on my website for 50% off! Grab both at a savings, and settle in for thirty whole hours of Martin's wonderful voice and my wild story.
Where can I buy it?
Right now? Just on my website! It's been submitted to Audible and also for wider distribution through Author's Republic, but those take time to percolate through the system and my website is almost immediate!
As with the His Secret Illuminations audiobook, I had to break it into five parts in order to get around the file size limit. Everything I sell through my website is DRM free, and I get the entire cover price instead of only 25-50%. It's the best way to directly support me, and once you have it, you own the files and no one can take them away from you.
More retailers will be coming soon, but as Patrons you get the direct link and the first announcement!
How can I help out?
Spread the word about the audio book! Y'all have the sneak peek, but I'll be sharing this on social media in the next couple of days. Like, reskeet, reblog, reshare, leave good reviews of the audio book where appropriate--all of that is a huge help to me, someone who is her own marketing department. Also, as mentioned in a previous update, I just left my day job, so writing is now my only income. Word of mouth has been my most valuable tool, so I want to thank every one of you who has ever recommended my books to a friend! You're helping keep weird art alive!
Grab the recording, and settle in for a horny weekend, Patrons!

Like he's just your understudy
Like you'd get your knuckles bloody for me
𝐀𝐔𝐆𝐔𝐒𝐓, 𝐖𝐇𝐄𝐍 𝐒𝐇𝐄 comes to Tokyo, always brings her heat with her.
More than the temperatures, it's a joyous sort of effervescence that coils around the street corners, trickling down like the first monsoon rains. Day after day, Tokyo attires itself in the most festive of summer colors, until all of a sudden all the festivals, open-air markets, and traditional dances flood the city like budding poppies. Here, rows upon rows of sunflowers sway to the soft breeze in Kiyose; over there paper lanterns float off into the night sky over the Sumida river, each cradling an unspoken wish.
To Yuki, August is always the best time to return to the capital. Or rather, the second best; nothing beats the cherry blossoms of late April, but late April is home for Imola now, and it's been years, really, since he last saw the sakura of home.
He doesn't mind the heat—he never did, and his Japanese friends joke that he was already a fiery character before his time in the West made him brazen. He's always glad to be back home over the summer break. Even more so since he debuted in Formula 1 six months prior.
It's Yuki's first time returning to Tokyo since he started racing with AlphaTauri, and one of his increasingly rare visits to his homeland. He's been eagerly anticipating the break; to recharge, certainly, and most importantly to meet with his family. In the cloudy skies the plane traverses, Yuki can see his elders' crinkled eyes, beaming with pride as he, the picture of practiced humility, answers every question about the sport, about Italy, about the world he made it big in. It matters not they won't understand much about racecars, or the FIA—he's coming home aureoled in a gladiator's glory. Honor to his family, to the Tsunoda bloodline! He smiles to himself as the plane touches down on the tarmac.
Yet as Yuki steps into the urban jungle he's so ardently missed… he finds the city changed. Not transformed, entirely, but… almost misplaced. As if street names and trees and playground slides have been shuffled over his time abroad, all of them still there but in a disposition unknown to him. Sure, he is a child of the suburbs, and Tokyo a fidgety creature—maybe Italy's stone roads have eroded his memory. But wasn't there an old laundromat on this corner, on which the papier mâché dragons would cast fantastical shadows as they snaked down the street? And the brand new KFC—this was a pet store, where he'd press his nose against the glass to watch the colorful fish and guinea pigs until his mother forcibly dragged him away.
This is still home, he tells himself to soothe the unease away. Things change, but they don't leave you behind, he repeats as he checks his phone to make sure he's going in the right direction.
They're all little details. Like when he stops at a food vendor's cart and has to repeat his order twice, taken aback by the sound of his very own mother tongue coming out of his mouth. Six months without speaking Japanese to another person, other than the odd calls to his parents, have left his voice chalky. The woman looks at him for a brief second, quizzical, but hands him the sugary buns; he thanks her, seamlessly this time, and it's all back to normal. Yuki Tsunoda is home.
They're all little details until they aren't. Until he turns on his heels, biting into the snack, and catches sight of her.
It's unmistakable, and it's her. Even with the facemask, it's the same silky hair and smooth skin, same little bounce to her step, and even the same linen pants she used to wear in high school. Tokyo's immutable certainty on the other side of the street. Y/N.
Yuki stops dead in his tracks as their eyes meet, thirty feet away, and a flash of recognition has her almost recoiling, but she holds firm onto the hand she's holding and stays immobile. A man's hand; he's a little taller than Yuki, black hair in a neat middle part and dark eyes distracted by an advertisement on a screen. Wearing nice clothes, sunglasses hanging from his neckline, shoulders relaxed but holding Y/N with the casual affection of a man who cherishes a great treasure.
Yuki's throat dries up. He thinks about reaching out—to say what? Giving her a polite wave—but what for? High school confessions play in his head, back when he loved her as zealously as he raced, and when her laugh ringing in his ears, more than the trophies and the European circuits and the million-dollar contracts, was his only belief.
"So when do you plan on coming back?" she'd asked him the last time they'd ever seen each other, sitting on a park bench that cherry petals flecked.
"Eight months to a year, maybe," he'd answered after a little while, knowing there was no return once he said it.
"Eight months?" she'd exclaimed, disbelieving. "Yuki, I can't… I don't think I can go eight months without seeing you."
"I don't think I can ask you to do that, either," he'd said, sounding sadder than he'd wanted, though he had rehearsed the moment over and over in his head.
She'd stared at him wordlessly, her incomprehension feigned. She knew what he was about to say, but pretended not to. He'd wished she'd piece it together on her own, admit it to herself so he wouldn't have to say it out loud, but…
"I think it's best for both of us if we just… go our separate ways. I don't want to hold you back, and you deserve to be happy here. With someone who's here with you."
You are among the twenty best in the world, Yuki, had told him Franz Tost after some F2 race he couldn't remember, when news had broken out into the world the Japanese rookie would be AlphaTauri's shiniest, newest addition. It's rough getting here and it's only gonna get rougher staying here. The engineers may cut out what's slowing you down… but you need to do it too.
"All right," was all Y/N had said, her eyes glassy. Steel. Dignified, like he'd always known her. Like he sees her right now, staring at him from the other side of the street.
Her new boyfriend taps her shoulder to show her something in a shop, and she turns her head, breaking eye contact with Yuki. Up the road, the lights turn green, and a flock of cars of all shapes and colors buzz past, invading the crosswalk and hiding the couple from view.
Twenty seconds later, when the street is quiet once more, and Y/N eagerly turns her gaze from her boyfriend to the opposite sidewalk, she finds moms pushing strollers and well-behaved Inus on leashes, but no trace of Tsunoda. A flame, gone in a flash. Her heart drops.
She squeezes her boyfriend's hand, and they keep walking.
I'm not your homeland anymore, so what am I defending now?
You were my crown, now I'm in exile, seeing you out
I think I've seen this film before
So I'm leaving out the side door"

State of the Muffin Report: Year Four (2022-23)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY FANFIC. Little Zuko was first posted on this day five years ago, way back when I thought FanFiction.net was the place to be, and had never yet heard of AO3.
Today I bring before you a look back on my fourth year of fanficing, as well as lofty aspirations for the coming year.
The numbers:
Fanfic:
This has been the year of ficlets. Finished Cuckoo-Vipers, Hello Dragons Here, and a few other mini-AUS; started up some others. Didn’t get as much done on existing stories as I’d wanted, but I absolutely blame pregnancy for that one. Very happy with how much I did end up writing.
Serious Face Writing:
Li’s Friends has now raised $3,907.28 USD for wildlife charity, not counting gift matches. Well done, internet.
Currently running a pre-order for book one of Fox’s Tongue and Kirin’s Bone, which will officially be up for sale on March 21st, after a very excellent first year on RoyalRoad that got me an audiobook contract and a nice little Patreon. Thank you, people who are paying me Real Money for writing. <3
Year Five (2023-24) Goals
Fanfic:
Putz with more ficlets and small AUs, because let’s face it, I’m going to be writing over a newborn while a toddler runs around me.
Finish the current book of Towards the Sun. We’re currently on the final field trip, so that should be very doable. —I say, using the exact same wording as I did last year, for this exact same goal. Second year’s the charm?
Get back to writing Cheating at Pai Sho. I want to get to the glory that is Season One Toph, dangit.
Serious Face Writing & RL:
Finish Fox’s Tongue Book Two, The Skin Stealer’s Son, and edit it up for publication and audiobook production.
Evict Secondborn from her occupation of my womb, and begin leveling her in her starter class of Baby.
Special thanks this year goes to the folks who followed me from AO3 over to Royal Road. The modest-but-very-awesome start to my serial fiction career gives me hopes that I can one day do the elusive Write Full Time thing. Which would mean both more original fic AND more fanfic. Because 48k of that word count above was absolutely me using fanfiction to procrastinate on writing my Serious Story. As one does.
Cheers,
MuffinLance

B, E, H, for whichever guy(s) from your brain you most want to talk about!
okay it is JAMES TIME now time to talk about JAMES!
B. What inspired you to create them?
so! the thing about James is that he wasn’t originally meant to get his own story at all — I’d been pondering the shapes of some backstory stuff for Alan Breck Stewart of Robert Louis Stevenson’s Kidnapped, a guy about which we don’t know an awful lot when it comes to what’s happened to him before he shows up in the book. so what I had in my head was something that’d happen during Alan’s initial army years, but Alan’s not the sort of guy that really works well on his own. in my estimation of him, he needs someone else to bounce off of to really shine, which is what RLS does so well in the book proper!
so I set about inventing up someone who Alan might want to talk to, and someone who might feel at home in a RLS story! and somewhere along the line, about two or three drawings in, there just sort of started being a guy that pulled up a chair inside my head and made herself at home. she’s changed a good deal since then, but she’s not left since!
as for the broader story of haunted by your hand, that comes from my favorite Vincent Price audiobook, ‘A Graveyard of Ghost Tales’, specifically the sections on hands of glory [27:13-50:48] one thing I’ve always wondered about with that line of lore is regarding the actual procurement of the hand itself — would you want to steal a stranger’s hand, or someone you’d known, and what might that feel like to keep holding in your own as it mummified and turned from a relic of a beloved person into a tool for thievery? and what if that person’s spirit stuck with that hand, what would that be like?
and so you see! there’s James!
E. Are they someone you would get along with? Would they get along with you?
James is almost infuriatingly easy-going, but very good at smoothing out conflict with strangers and acquaintances to the point of often being difficult to communicate with. if he doesn’t want to talk about something, you will not be talking about anything at all. for my part, a lot of how I get to know a person is joking and goofing and conversational exchange, and James, at this point in her life, is not interested in that kind of give-and-take in discussion at all. she’s got enough friends — she doesn’t feel that she needs to open up to anyone else. thus, we would probably tolerate each other in short interactions, but I doubt we’d ever be friends.
H. What trait do you admire most?
she’s decisive and secure! she knows precisely what she wants, and more often than not, how to go about getting it. if something needs to get done, James is the one to do it, and she will do it, without hesitation. …this is not always a good thing, as it happens. uh oh.
#answers from the cupola#oc time again hehe#haunted by your hand#the gambler: james webster#thing about the story where james originally appeared is that I like it so much (some of my best alan breck dialogue Ever) but also.#james has her own things to do now. but also it is fundamentally a two person story. so there it sits halfway done in my notes app forever.#kate funfact also while we're here: a lot of why she's Like That is because james was designed to fit around alan breck#and thus in his absence took well to a kind of alan breck-shaped guy in return!

In my youth, I would often draw comics. I loved telling stories, and I loved comic books. So, making my own heroes and villains seemed to be a good fit. I remember one teacher in school would really encourage me in my art. I was ready to show her any new work, and she would read it.
The earliest story I can remember drawing was an invisible hero named Shadow. No, it’s not the one you’re probably thinking. Maybe “The Shadow knows,” but I didn’t even know HE existed. My hero Duane Nathaniels (a play on my own name) was involved in a chemical accident that rendered him permanently invisible. That is, he was invisible until another accident made it necessary for someone to render him permanently visible and metallic. He then gained a new name, but that’s another story.
I later drew several other stories, mostly about a hero called The Crimson Garnet, who had super speed, shot lightning, healed quickly, and had other powers to boot. His identity was Duane Bronze, which I believe to be an evolution of my Shadow’s alter ego. He went up against a number of villains, but the big one was one known as Street Boss, a man who made use of as much technological advancement as he was shrouded in mystery. The Crimson Garnet’s story is one that shows strength in family. Duane starts his story learning that his grandfather and sister are alive. Later we meet an uncle.
Crimson Garnet is also a story of faith. Someone might ask, “Why go science fiction, then throw faith in?” My Christian faith, my trust in Jesus Christ, is a huge part of my life. Therefore, it’s a major recurring theme in my stories. I want my writing to bring glory to God, and people to the understanding that Jesus loves them and wants to forgive them of their sin if they put their trust in Him. His death (and resurrection) paid for my sins, so I want my life, and my life’s work, to be for Him.
“My Christian faith, my trust in Jesus Christ, is a huge part of my life.”
Crimson Garnet is one of the stories I tell today in audio drama form, and the dramatic story is far from finished. But how did that happen? How did the comic books turn into audio dramas? Well, it started when I realized something. I can’t draw well. I try, and I can get my story across, but it would never be a widespread thing. So I began to turn Crimson Garnet’s adventures into short stories.
At some point, I began writing other short stories, such as Into the Lion’s Den. This was a story about finding strength in Christ, knowing that with Him, one is never alone.
I also wrote another story, Stronghold, which was about a group of heroes who go against a drug lord. Eventually, this storyline joined up with the universe of the Crimson Garnet. I also wrote stories for the other comics I drew that I had available. Shadow was long gone at this point. It’s probably for the best, as it sounds an awful lot like The Invisible Man, now that I think about it.
I’d share my stories at sites like Fictionpress or on message boards where people were interested in such things. The message board runners gave me a good deal of encouragement. A while after that, I discovered podcasting, so I shared my stories with the world, or whoever would listen.
A few years passed, and all had gone well. But then there was a crash. Some of my podcasted stories were lost! My written forms were still with me, but the audiobook versions were gone, and I was going to have to redo many of these stories from the very beginning.
“Telling these stories is a big part of my life. I love writing and producing audio drama.”
At that point, I decided to upgrade my work. I started scripting, getting volunteers to play parts, and adding sound effects and music, which are readily available online for free via places like Soundjay. Now, I have a new friend, Jimmy David Robbins, who produces Crimson Garnet for me to ease my load. He helps me bring my stories to a life they had never seen before.
I’m also bringing Stronghold to new life as well. Julie Westlake Sooter narrated a few, and now Frank Guglielmelli does it for me, while great people like Keith Heltsley, Jack Reilly, Michael Prince, and many others help me by voicing the characters.
Keith Heltsley and I write a series called Dangerous Christian, which is about a stranger who actually goes head to head against a very strong evil in a town ravaged by natural disaster. Four episodes have been made, and more are still in production.
This show stars Michael Prince, Tiffany Lott, and John Warren, with a great supporting cast.
Telling these stories is a big part of my life. I love writing and producing audio drama. It’s an upgrade to what I was doing. It’s like another kind of comic book. I can’t draw it on paper, but I can paint it on the canvas of your mind.

Roommates – Part Four
Pairing: Cillian Murphy x Reader
Words: 2,385
Warning: Smut
Note: This plays in 2020. Please interact. Your interactions and comments mean a lot to me.
Just as you were in the middle of your morning routine following a night filled with erotic dreams about your roommate, you heard a loud knock on the door.
You quickly turned off your vibrator and chucked it into your bedside draw before pulling up your panties and singlet and walking into the hallway.
When you opened the door, you were surprised to see James. His face was flushed and he looked like he had been crying.
‘You don’t fucking answer my messages and calls anymore’ he said and it quickly became clear to you that he must have been drinking all night when you smelled his breath from the distance.
‘You shouldn’t be here James, please leave’ you said firmly, knowing that his visit wasn’t permitted under the current lockdown restrictions.
‘Just hear me out Y/N, please’ he begged once again after he had been trying to get back together with you for the past four months and, whilst you initially maintained contact with him, you no longer responded to his messages and ignored his calls for the past two weeks.
‘There is nothing more to discuss James. I am through with you’ you said before you tried to shut the door on him but, just as you did, his foot caught in the doorway and he pushed his way into the hallway.
‘James, honestly, get the fuck out. You cheated, more than once, and I am done with you’ you huffed out and thought that, clearly, he would have received the 2,000 Euro engagement ring he had bought you in the mail by now.
‘You can’t just throw away what we had Y/N’ he went on to say and, just as he did, Cillian returned from his morning run.
‘Get out of my house James or I will call the Gardaí’ Cillian said calmly as he noticed that you were distressed.
‘Alright Murphy, go ahead, call the fucking cops’ James huffed out angrily and, before you knew it, James pushed you with your back against the wall in frustration.
‘Y/N, please fucking listen to me. I didn’t mean for any of this to happen’ he pleaded again with a whiny voice but his grip on you was becoming rather aggressive.
‘James, stop, you are hurting me’ you shouted out and, just as you tried to push him off, Cillian grabbed James by the back of his t-shirt and pulled him out of the house.
‘That’s enough James, fuck off and leave her alone’ Cillian said harshly and, when these words left his lips, James turned around suddenly and hit Cillian across the face with his right fist.
‘Jesus James’ you panicked as you quickly walked over towards Cillian and him but, when James realised what he did, he was quick to run off.
‘Fuck, Cilly, are you alright?’ you asked as you watched him hold on to his face.
‘I am fine’ Cillian chuckled before acknowledging that his face would likely be swollen before Lindsay would arrive in the evening.
‘I am sure she won’t mind Cilly’ you said before giving him a hug and thanking him for defending you and making James leave.
‘Y/N, I stink, you probably shouldn’t…’ Cillian said but you didn’t care and hugged him anyway, pressing your half naked body against his.
Ironically and almost surprisingly, you actually didn’t mind the scent of his sweat covered body. You could still smell the deodorant and aftershave on his skin and the hint of mint from the toothpaste he used that morning on his lips.
‘Let’s get some ice on this, hmm’ you then said before forcing him to sit down at the kitchen table while you prepared an ice pack for him.
After you wrapped the sachet of ice into a thin cloth, you gently pressed it against Cillian’s cheek which, already, had turned red.
The skin on his face felt soft and slightly moist and his deep blue eyes gazed into yours for a brief moment while his lips smiled at you.
His smile was warm and beautiful and you couldn’t help but pay attention to the large freckle on his upper lip.
‘So, uhm, I…uhm…I think I might go and get dressed’ you eventually huffed out after you had gotten lost in his eyes for a short moment.
Cillian nodded in response and, just as you walked away from him, an unfamiliar feeling washed over his body.
It was a feeling he couldn’t explain and it was almost unique in a way. In addition to his arousal which, by this point, had also formed in between his legs again, he felt shivers run over his spine and down into his stomach. These shivers felt almost like flutters and made him feel uncomfortably warm.
***
It was 5 o’clock and Cillian was out, walking his dog and getting some Aspirin from the nearby pharmacy following his incident with James and you decided to have a bath before the said storm was scheduled to come in later that evening.
Despite, you really needed to get your mind of the fact that Cillian was about to shag Lindsay which, in the past, hadn’t bothered you but, more recently it did. In addition, your friend Laura continued to nag you about updates on Cillian’s life, telling you that she was still very much in love with him and asking for your help to turn things around between them.
The sky had already darkened and you decided to gather all of the scented candles Cillian had in the house and carry them to the bathroom. You arranged them all around and poured yourself a glass of red wine before settling in the hot tub which was facing the backyard through a one-sided window, meaning that no one could see inside.
With Cillian being out, you didn’t bother closing the bathroom door and allowed the heat from the fireplace in the living room to radiate throughout the house.
Just as you sat in the half full tub and watched as the steaming water began to fill it completely, you reached for your phone and ipods to listen to something relaxing.
When, finally, the tub was filled completely, you lowered yourself into it allowing the bubbles to overtake your body. Your knees were slightly bent as you laid back and your breasts were floating on the surface just barely exposed to the air above the water. Your hair was floating and the bubbles were popping all around your head while you listened to an audiobook narrated by Cillian.
His voice was always something you enjoyed listening to, now more than ever and you closed your eyes to take in this moment of solace.
But, just as you did, Cillian’s face appeared beneath your eyelids and your heart instantly skipped a beat. You wanted to feel his strong hands on every inch of your wet body and, with those thoughts in mind, your hand began to caress your ass cheek while thinking about him. With each stroke you moved a little further up your thigh and back down the back of your ass. Your pussy lips were throbbing and wet from more than just the warm water, begging to be touched.
You were in a trance, listening to Cillian’s voice through your headphones as you slowly began to pleasure yourself and, with your mind being so far gone, you didn’t even realise that Cillian had returned home from his walk early as it was pouring with rain outside.
‘Y/N?’ he shouted through the house as you were nowhere to be found until, eventually, he realised that you may be in the bathroom.
With the bathroom door open, he looked inside only to find you with your eyes closed, facing the opposite direction towards the large one-sided window.
‘Y/N, shit, I am sorry’ he huffed out and, as you continued to run your hand up and down your naked body, he realised that you had your headphones in and didn’t hear him.
Cillian turned around quickly and you released a gentle moan that softly echoed in the bathroom. In your mind, you wanted him more with each touch of your hand but, of course, he didn’t know that.
When Cillian heard your moan, his manhood immediately went on alert and whilst he knew it was wrong, he couldn’t help himself but turn back around and watch you.
Unbeknownst to you, Cillian watched you as one of your hands was massaging your breast while the other slowly spread your legs exposing more of your pussy to the warmth of the water. It crashed against your lips like waves in the ocean and they were pulsating, begging for more.
‘Jesus, look away, fuck’ he said to himself quietly inside his mind as he stood there motionless and with a raging erection. He wanted to strip down naked right there and join you and it took all of his willpower not to do exactly that.
‘Hmm’ you moaned again as you listened to Cillian’s voice through your headphones and took your fingertips and tightly squeezed your clit. You could feel your juices being released and your legs spread wide as your hand pressed and caressed your mound.
‘Fuck’ Cillian’s mind said again, urging him to walk away and, just as he had built up enough strength and turned around, he heard you again.
‘Cillian’ you huffed out but with your eyes still tightly closed and feeling each sensation you were creating as you indulged on the sound of his voice.
Cillian immediately turned around in a panic, thinking that you had caught him watching you. Why else would you have said his name, he wondered.
To his surprise, when he turned around in a panic, you still had your eyes closed and continued to pleasure yourself. Your hand was working over your mound from top to back and teasing both of your holes now and, with Cillian watching, you continued to touch and tease yourself, caressing the inside of your thighs.
Perhaps he was imagining you calling out his name he thought. You couldn’t possibly have said his name while you were masturbating. Clearly, his mind was playing tricks on him and he was sure about it.
Then, the unimaginable happened. You stood up inside the tub in all of your naked glory. Bubbles were running down your body and the smell of vanilla was in the air as you climbed out of the bathtub.
Cillian was quick to disappear into the hallway and thought that, perhaps, he should have closed the bathroom door. But then, he heard his name leaving your lips again and, just as he went back to see whether you were, in fact calling for him, he watched you lean against the vanity with your headphone still inside your ears and your fingers running over your outer walls of your pussy before teasing your clit with a soft abrasive touch.
In a trance and consumed by pleasure, you dropped your towel to the floor and squeezed your clit between your fingertips as you stood there with your eyes shut. The candle lights still danced in the room, bouncing off the water drops still on your soft skin.
All of your tattoos were on full display and so were your piercings, including the one on your clit which Cillian became rather curious about.
He could not take this any longer and watched you desperately as your body cried out and you responded by slowly inserting your index finger into your cavity and sliding it back out. You did this a few times until she pushed it in deep and held it there, massaging your inner walls. Then you added a second finger into your hot pussy pushing some of your juices out onto your hand.
Cillian swallowed harshly when, eventually, you removed your fingers from your hole and placed them one by one into your mouth, sucking them clean.
‘Jesus fucking christ’ he thought and, despite the fact that he knew that Lindsay would be visiting him in the next hour or so, he turned around and made a quick run to his bedroom.
Seeing you like this was too much for him and, without giving it a second thought, he unzipped his jeans and pushed them down half way in order to release his raging erection.
Leaning against the dresser in the bedroom, he began to stroke his hard shaft vigorously, thinking about what you did in the bathroom at the same time as he was seeking relief.
Just as Cillian was stroking his cock hard and fast while thinking about you, you thrusted your fingers in and out of your pussy while thinking of him. Eventually, you began to pound your pussy, slapping your clit with each thrust. Faster and harder bringing yourself to an orgasm.
Just as you came, your moans filled the entire house, thinking that you were on your own.
‘Oh god, yes Cillian’ you groaned and there was no mistaking it. It was his name he heard when you came and this alone sent him over the edge, causing him to cum hard onto the pile of dirty clothes besides the dresser.
Just as he stroked the last few drops of cum from his shaft, he heard the doorbell ring.
Quickly, he grabbed one of the t-shirts from the pile of clothes and cleaned himself up before walking downstairs and opening the front door.
‘Hey Sweetie’ Lindsay said, carrying two shopping bags.
‘You are early’ Cillian said before giving her a brief kiss.
‘I wanted to surprise you and thought I would cook for you. For Y/N too, of course. At least this way, you can finally introduce us properly and I don’t feel like your beck in call’ Lindsay explained.
‘Sounds great’ Cillian said somewhat flustered just as you walked through the hallway almost completely naked.
‘Oh my god, you are home…fuck’ you shouted, covering your breasts with a towel and Cillian couldn’t help but sigh.
He thought about you, calling out his name as you masturbated and now he was in his hallway with Lindsay who clearly wanted to mark her territory.

God I am so lucky in life like not only is my partner FUCKING amazing her family is like.
Okay.
I knew that the family had “Starship Troopers” as a fave movie and I watched it with them and loved it in all its campy glory (it’s one of my faves now too). And I was like. “You guys should read John Scalzi’s ‘Old Man’s War’ series” and they did. They took my recommendation seriously and read the books. And they loved it. Like her whole family even her dad and brothers! I succeeded in making a cool recommendation they liked!!
And then Bast’s mom was like you got any more recommendations and I was like “you’ve got to read Discworld it’s right up your alley.” And she did. Like she’s still in the process of reading or audiobook listening to them all cause there’s over 40 but she’s done the majority of them. And is INTO IT. Like real hard to the point she’s made a little area in her keepsake closet for a statue of a monk she calls Lu Tze and his bonsai mountains and has proudly accepted she’s a real life Nanny Ogg. And then I got Bast herself into it shortly thereafter by reading the books out loud to her.
And now?? Now her parents have moved across the country to live near us??
Now EVERY WEEK (barring extenuating circumstances) we have Discworld Book Club with Bast and me and her mom and I read a book out loud and do voices and shit and we discuss it. And we do a silly drinking game of “drink every time the word ‘stare’ or ‘susurrus’ appears” and we get tipsy together and have a good time! Talking about Discworld and themes and life and whatever is going on! We’re halfway through “Small Gods” because it’s my favorite!
And just.
I love my girlfriend’s family. I love recommending things I like to them and sharing them. I like that we can talk about stuff we all like (even if it’s just like, a short visit and her dad has the ending of “Scarface” on and I can look cool to him by knowing what happens and having an opinion etc.) and I like that I am included in things they like too (I would never have known about “Starship Troopers” or “Defending Your Life” or watched all of “Futurama” if they hadn’t said they loved them and I would’ve missed out).
I love being able to share Discworld which shaped my life and outlook to a huge degree and have people I love say not only “this is funny” but that they love it and love Pratchett and want to get fan merch and talk about the characters and all that.
I am hashtagblessed!!!!! Get you all a partner whose parents you love, if you can, and who love you!! It’s really just the greatest thing! You gain even more friends!!! *screams* I love Bast’s family!!!
#kidk says stuff#I have drank too many ouzo like Ian miller’s parents in my big fat Greek wedding before me#but this is ALL TRUE

what i personally think les mis characters would listen to on the metro in their earbuds
cosette: simon and garfunkel. she tries not to think about their fall-out and fails. then she feels sad
javert: no music. just news podcasts
valjean: he’s listening to an audiobook. he wants to get through this chapter so he can talk to cosette about it later
bahorel: nonironically listens to 2010s emo/punk music like Green Day, Panic!, MCR, and FOB because he’s reliving his glory days
feuilly: nonironically listens to death metal because it’s like white noise to him. he tries really hard to put his other friends onto it but they always just back away slowly
jehan: they’re listening to pure heroine wishing lorde would put out more music (today is their lucky day!)
combeferre: r&b is his focus music and puts him in the relaxed mindset to deal with everyone else for the day
courfeyrac: blasting trap music that makes him subconsciously bounce on his heels to the beat as he’s holding onto the railing
marius: beatles apologist. he thinks they’re cool and openly talks about it.
enjolras: no music. just news podcasts like javert. makes sure he’s always aware of what’s going on in the world
eponine: listening to the beatles bc marius sent her a playlist begging her to appreciate them. she’s trying really hard to focus on it so they have something to talk about later
joly: asmr. helps calm him down.
musichetta: billy joel and hyperpop because she has no concept of separating music genres into different playlists and likes both equally
bossuet: he’s currently listening to chetta’s hyperpop just to try it out. he’s not having a great time.
grantaire: gorillaz but only the old albums because oh my god he’s so annoyingly pretentious about it dont get him started for the love of-

do you think victor hugo had to do headcounts like the les mis fandom does when making les amis content
like he’s like “okay we got courf, combeferre, OH FUCK i forgot bossuet and feuilly-“ during the barricade

it would be funny if people wrote about enjolras in their fics the same way that victor hugo did. like how when people say “the leader” or “the blond” but instead they just say like “the virgin stormed across the room” “the virgin gave him an annoyed glance” “the virgin took a sip of water” and only in nonsexual circumstances

Hello, Tumblr, and I hope you had a merry holiday (or simply enjoyed the weekend off)! I am so excited to finally share some absolutely amazing news: There's an audio book of His Secret Illuminations, and it is available for purchase now!!!
[intense, relieved, distant screaming]
I am so pumped about this you wouldn't even believe it. I started trying to produce this audio book in June of this year. June. You might note that it is now December. This is a project six months in the making. I went through multiple rounds of auditions and thought I'd found a narrator twice and both times they had to back out of recording. I exhausted everyone who sounded right at one service and went to fellow self-published fantasy author Virginia McClain for advice, and she pointed me to Antoine Bandele of AB Book Services and his roster of narrators, where I found Martin Martinez. Martin auditioned for me with a perfectly sweet Lucían and a wonderfully strong Glory. His reading was deft and playful and exactly what I'd been hoping for, and the sex scenes? Well, to quote the illustrious burlesque icon Miss Kitty Baby: "There won't be a dry seat in the house."
Please give it a listen if you're an audio book person, or tell your friends to give it a listen if you aren't. Martin really gave a beautiful performance, and I think everyone should hear the heart and soul he gave these characters.
(People other than me definitely need to hear it. I have listened to the entire thing three times as I reviewed it, which is too many times for an author to have to be presented with their writing from three years ago in a medium where they cannot elide certain word choices they would not have made now. It's a great audio book! It really is! I never want to listen to it again!)
Ahem.
Where can I buy it?
On several platforms that audio books are sold, with more coming soon! Here are some specific places:
https://scarlettgaleauthor.com/shop/audio-books https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/his-secret-illuminations-scarlett-gale/1142856730 https://bingebooks.com/book/his-secret-illuminations https://www.scribd.com/audiobook/614996148/His-Secret-Illuminations-Their-adventure-will-test-his-skill-and-his-self-control https://libro.fm/audiobooks/9781669668374 https://www.storytel.com/se/sv/books/3683133 https://www.kobo.com/us/en/audiobook/his-secret-illuminations-2 https://play.google.com/store/audiobooks/details/Scarlett_Gale_His_Secret_Illuminations?id=AQAAAEDCkgXS1M https://www.chirpbooks.com/audiobooks/his-secret-illuminations-by-scarlett-gale https://www.audiobooks.com/audiobook/his-secret-illuminations-their-adventure-will-test-his-skill-and-his-self-control/653033
Not at Amazon/Audible?
Not yet, anyway! It's been submitted to them for review and is still pending. The audio book will be available on Amazon... eventually.
Where should I buy it?
Wherever is easiest for you! That said, if your goal is to support me as directly as possible, please consider buying it from my website.
It's a little more troublesome (I had to break it into five parts in order to get around the file size limit) but everything I sell on my website is DRM-free and I get the entire $24.99 cover price (minus credit card fees). Purchasing it through another platform means I only get the royalties, which end up between 20% and 50% of the cover price.
When will His Sacred Incantations be available as an audio book?
The unfortunately mercenary answer here is "As soon as I can afford to produce it." As a self-published author I am on the financial hook for anything and everything I want to do with my books. Part of the reason it took this long to get the first book produced was because I needed to save up enough to pay for the production of it. His Secret Illuminations cost about $3600, which I paid out of pocket. I expect that His Sacred Incantations will cost about the same. I hope to be able to produce it in 2023--the better my sales are, the sooner I can get started!
P.S. If I manage to sell 144 copies of this audio book through my website, that will cover almost the entire cost of producing the second book.
How can I help out?
Spread the word about the audio book! As Patrons you get the news first, but I'll be sharing this on social media in the next couple of days. Like, retweet, reblog, reshare, leave good reviews of the audio book where appropriate--all of that is a huge help to me, someone who is her own marketing department.
Thank you so much for your support! May your holidays be happy, and your winter nights warm.
#news!#his secret illuminations#audio book#writing#seriously it's so good#please listen to it#make my torture worth it

Last year I made a pinned post about how I wasn’t going to post any more ML art because my main fandom had become AOT. I had loved MLso much for several years, but the inconsistent episode release schedule made me lose interest. But just a few months after that announcement AOT’s last manga chapter was released and it ruined so many things for me. I’m still technically “in the fandom” because I made some very good friends on Twitter on those glory months when we were still hopeful the author was going to salvage the trainwreck. I also have several arts I never posted here which I’ll slowly be uploading, so there will probably still be AOT content for awhile.
But my current fandom (and fandom is a stretch because it’s just me drawing and writing fics and two friends cheering on me) is The Bell Witch Series.
It’s kind of a funny story because a long time ago I basically added every book on Audible (yes, I know, but I love my audiobooks) with the word “Witch” in the title to my wishlist and was systematically going through each of them. And I bought the audiobook with books 1-3 bundled up. I started book 1 on August of last year and while I liked the characters, it read like a YA book and I’m not that fond of teenage protagonists anymore. But I figured “what the heck, I bought it and might as well finish it”. Book 2 picked up the pace. Book 3 solidified my need to listen to the rest of the series so I immediately bought the other 3 audiobooks and all the ebooks to have them handy for reference. And here I am several months later with over 50k words of fanfiction and tons of drawings screaming and crying into the void.
The series is not a literary masterpiece, but THE CHARACTERS. God, that post about how characters make or break a story is 100% true because at least two of them seem to have been written to my very specific, niche taste AND THEY GET TOGETHER IN CANON. That has never happened to me before and let me tell you, now I know why canon shippers are so smug and insufferable.
So yeah, now 95% of my fandom thoughts revolve around Basheba and Cadwyn.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes
Suzanne Collins
Summary: Ambition will fuel him. Competition will drive him. But power has its price. It is the morning of the reaping that will kick off the tenth annual Hunger Games. In the Capitol, eighteen-year-old Coriolanus Snow is preparing for his one shot at glory as a mentor in the Games. The once-mighty house of Snow has fallen on hard times, its fate hanging on the slender chance that Coriolanus will be able to outcharm, outwit, and outmaneuver his fellow students to mentor the winning tribute. The odds are against him. He’s been given the humiliating assignment of mentoring the female tribute from District 12, the lowest of the low. Their fates are now completely intertwined—every choice Coriolanus makes could lead to favor or failure, triumph or ruin. Inside the arena, it will be a fight to the death. Outside the arena, Coriolanus starts to feel for his doomed tribute . . . and must weigh his need to follow the rules against his desire to survive no matter what it takes.
Rating: ★★★★★
Review:
So, this is a bit of a “disclaimer” or more of an interesting fact: I’ve technically never read The Hunger Games Trilogy. I had to read the first book for my English class, and it was a time where I hated being told what to read so I used SparkNotes. We also watched the first film in that class but that doesn’t really matter because A) that was like 8 or 9 years ago and B) it was for my class so you can bet I wasn’t playing attention. So, for all intents and purposes, I have not read the Hunger Games. Now you may be asking why I decided read this…seemingly controversial book rather than the much beloved original trilogy. Cuz my friend said I should, the audiobook sample intrigued me, and when are you going to see a review of this book from someone who hasn’t read the original trilogy?
Before I go into spoilers with this book, I just want to say as someone who has at best a surface level understanding of the Hunger Games trilogy, I think people are being a little bit harsh about this book. This book made me completely understand why Coriolanus Snow went down the path that he did while also not glamourizing it or making excuses for it. I genuinely felt bad for this young man who has delt with so many hardship that no one would should suffer through. However, he still does horrible things and the book recognizes that he does horrible things. It is a fascinating character study with a bit of background on how the Hunger Games came to be. Perhaps my opinion will change once I read The Hunger Games trilogy (which I intend to do) however at this point I think this was an amazing book and you should give it a fair shake. Now, onto spoilers.
The only flaw I found with this book was it was a bit too on the nose with a couple of things. First some of the names. Gaul. Satyria. Highbottom. I know that Collins started off as a middle grade writer and these feel like very middle grade character names. They just describe the characters a little too perfectly. In YA, it’s more popular to make characters where their names’ meanings give an insight into their character. Not a huge problem but a bit silly.
Second, I’m a little conflicted on the political talk. On the one hand, holy shit a YA book that talks about political theory? In an intelligent way? That’s not just screaming about real world politics? Oh my! On the other hand, it’s a little too on the nose. Gaul having Coryo write about the Social Contract and then this conversation:
“‘I do. Unless there’s law, someone enforcing it, I think we might as well be animals,’ he said with more assurance. ‘Like it or not, the Capitol is the only thing keeping anyone safe.’ ‘Hm. So they keep me safe. And what do I give up for that?’ she asked.”—Page 434
Hobbes would swoon over Coryo. It wasn’t bad just on the nose. And to a degree, I get it, I’m working on getting my masters in political science and I’ve read Hobbes and Rousseau whereas most the intended audience probably hasn’t. So, I call this a nitpick for me
Other than this book being a little too on the nose, I found very little fault in this. Maybe the Post-Games story line was a little less interesting but it still wasn’t bad by any means. This book is a character study of Coriolanus Snow, so I’d like to talk about him and his dissent. While reading this, my friend asked me if I hadn’t known that Coryo would one day become President Snow, if I could see it coming. And, while it’s hard to tell exactly, I think Collins manages to balance both Coryo being sympathetic and showing how he could become the person that he is in the trilogy. There are three…phases or Coryo’s life that really illustrate how he becomes President Snow. First is his life during the War. Second, is his life During the 10th Hunger Games. Then his life Post-Games. Collins does a wonderful job of portraying what it was like for Coryo during the war. The horrors he had witness of enjoying the life of luxury at an early age and then his world crashing around him. Of his family dying. Of the struggles to survive. Of him witnessing his friends’ parents restore to something horrible like cannibalism. It’s brought up a lot because it’s something that scarred him.
Now his During-Games life/the first half of this book. Coryo and the people around him are clearly dealing with the PTSD of growing up in a war zone. He’s essentially starving through most of this section during the book and on the verge of losing of what little he’s held onto since the War ended. I feel really bad for him. There was a part of me during this section where I hoped along side him that Lucy Gray would win the Hunger Games, he could go to University and continue his relationship with her. Maybe they could have changed Panem for the better. And while in this section he was no pure angel, you could see Gaul and Highbottom pushing him to become a worse person. You could also see the red flags that become worse in the Post-Games section.
There are two major red flags I picked up on during this read through. First, is his relationship with Lucy Gray. He’s very possessive of her and he gets very jealous when she sings about another guy during The Hunger Games. This made the relationship slightly uncomfortable for me…though let’s be honest if Sejanus was pining after Lucy Gray he would be acting no different from any other YA love interest (shots fired.) He actually reminded me a lot of Jace from The Mortal Instruments. The second red flag is his treatment of Sejanus. In a meta sense Sejanus is your typical hero and the fact that Coryo is using him (and really anyone besides maybe his family?) is a giant red flag to me as a reader. He doesn’t like Sejanus or Mrs. Plinth. He just wants to use them. Which is really sad but shows that is eventually dissent into Post-Hunger Games Coryo is foreshadowed.
Now, let’s talk about Post-Games. I took a break once the Games ended because I was a little unmotivated to keep reading. I didn’t know if I would like Coryo leaving the Capital. I liked seeing the political maneuvering of the Games and his dynamics with his classmates. However, watching his dissent was great. His relationship with Lucy Gray went from slightly concerning to full blown toxic. His possessiveness of her really amped up. Coryo also isn’t really happy to see Sejanus because it’s a friendly face, it’s because there’s someone to recognize his status and for someone he can use. Again, another moment of possibility of where Coryo could have let Sejanus and maybe Lucy Gray escape and he could have gone off to become an officer. Work his way up and become the President. However, he didn’t take that path.
It was so heartbreaking to see Sejanus die, there was still a glimmer of Coryo’s humanity where he genuinely felt guilty but you could see his self-preserving nature showing its ugly head. And then his journey is cemented when he can’t handle being out with Lucy Gray so he may or may not have killed her, then he goes back where his family pictures are ruined and his mother’s powder is mush. The only thing left his is father’s compass.
Speaking of his father, one final character I’ll mention is Dean Highbottom. I wish we got a little bit more of him because his view of Coryo is interesting. It seemed like Collins gave a very subtle story about how Highbottom was worried that Coryo would turn out like his father. But Highbottom ended up created the monster he wanted to prevent. If he had shown Coryo compassion and understanding, he might have turned out differently. This ended up getting Highbottom killed which was a great way to end the book. Sad but great.
Overall, I think this is a great story. I loved seeing all the different roads Coryo could have taken and how things could have turned out differently. I am planning on buying the Hunger Games trilogy so it’ll be interesting to see how this changes things for me.

Books read in October
I read a paperback book for the first time in over three months months and was sharply aware that I couldn’t change anything about the way the text was displayed to make it more comfortable to read. I wondered, sadly, if I no longer like reading physical books.
Then I became engrossed in the story, and there were long stretches of time when I didn’t think about how I was reading a brick of printed paper. I turned pages as automatically and effortlessly as breathing. I think I was just out of practice.
This month’s Unintentional Colour Scheme: pink, purple and light blue.
Favourite covers: The Time-Traveling Popcorn Ball and The Other Side of the Sky.
Also read: “Good Neighbors” by Stephanie Burgis and Tiny House, Big Love by Olivia Dade. (And half a romance novel which I disliked and have no interest in remembering or reviewing.)
Reread: The last section of The Beckoning Hills by Ruth Elwin Harris. The middle section of Hunting by Andrea K. Höst.
Still reading: Between Silk and Cyanide by Leo Marks, and Angel Mage by Garth Nix.
Next up: The Switch by Beth O’Leary, and Hamster Princess: Little Red Rodent Hood by Ursula Vernon.
*
The Time-Traveling Popcorn Ball by Aster Glenn Gray: A magical story of time-travel and of friendship between eleven year old Piper, who has just moved into a new house, and Rosie, who lived in the same house fifty years earlier. It’s totally charming, and exactly the sort of story I adored growing up. Sometimes that makes me wish I could send a book back in time to my younger self, but I appreciated this book’s references to things that my younger self didn’t know about. I also appreciated how, even though I’ve read similar stories, I couldn’t predict how this one would end. That was very satisfying.
The Game of Kings by Dorothy Dunnett: In 1547, Francis Crawford, the Master of Lymond, wanted by the Scottish government for treason, is back in Edinburgh. The audiobook was the perfect way to experience this! The voices the narrator uses highlights clues in the text, about who’s speaking or the subtext and emotional tones of a conversation, which helped me to follow the story even when I felt confused about exactly what was going on. I enjoyed the Scottish accents, the clever wit, the ambiguity about Lymond’s plans and motives, and the way many characters are very intelligent, perceptive people. I was interested in the historical political intrigue. I loved the twists and revelations, which are brilliant -- incredibly clever and satisfying.
“Good Neighbors” by Stephanie Burgis: The first “fantasy rom-com” about a grumpy inventor who, along with her father, moves into a cottage nextdoor to a notorious necromancer in his big black castle. I wasn’t expecting to read about Mia stitching up undead minions, but appreciate that Burgis doesn’t take this opportunity to give glory details. This short story was fun and satisfying, and I am looking forward to when the rest of this series becomes (easily) available.
Lake of Sorrows by Erin Hart: After Haunted Ground, Dr Nora Gavin heads to the midlands west of Dublin to oversee the evacuation of another body discovered in a peat bog. The setting is fascinating and I like the atmosphere -- this has a strong sense of both place and mystery. However the multiple murders meant there’s more unpleasantness than I’d prefer. But it’s probably not enough to deter me from reading the next book.
The Dictionary of Lost Words by Pip Williams: Engrossing -- a poignant story of childhood during the late 19th century and womanhood in the early 20th century, and an absolutely fascinating insight into the decades-long process behind the first Oxford English Dictionary. Esme’s father is one of the lexicographers collecting and defining words for the Dictionary. Esme grows up with a fascination for words and begins to collect words that the Dictionary leaves out. I liked that Esme has people in her life who love and support her, but the ending is intensely sad. I’m not sure why that disappointed me. As an ending, it fits this story.
Taking Down Evelyn Tait by Poppy Nwosu: Australian YA. Lottie is furious that no one else seems to realise what Evelyn Tait, her nemesis (and stepsister) is like. Her best friend Grace is in love with Evelyn. Her teachers and her father tell Lottie she should emulate Evelyn. So Lottie decides that she’s going to do just that -- she’s going to be better than Miss Perfect. I thought this was a very realistic portrayal of a teenager’s relationships -- with family, with friends, with school and with herself. It’s amusing and, ultimately, believably positive. It captures Lottie’s perspective and her experiences in-the-moment so effectively and intensely.
Wired Love: a romance of dots and dashes by Ella Cheever Thayer (1888): Nattie, a telegraph operator who chats whenever she can “over the wire” with C., another telegraph operator miles down the line. I love stories where characters fall in love through exchanged messages. And the experiences of telegraph operators is absolutely fascinating -- simultaneously a product of the past and yet incredibly relatable from a contemporary perspective, because the internet and mobile phones mean we communicate so much through text. After Nattie and Clem meet, the focus shifts away from the telegraph office to antics at their boardinghouse, but the story continues to be fun and delightful.
Once Upon a Con series by Ashley Poston:
Geekerella: When Elle discovers her late parents’ cosplay costumes in a box in the attic, she hatches a plan to enter a cosplay competition and use the prize to escape her step-family. This contemporary Cinderella retelling about two teenage fans of a SF series Starfield is a romance-through-messages story. Elle uses her father’s old phone, so sometimes she gets messages from people about ExcelsiCon, the convention her father founded. One message sparks a conversation -- but neither she nor Darien realise just who they’re texting. As expected, this is fun and fandom-y, and it makes the coincidences and Cinderella moments feel believable.
The Princess and the Fangirl: At ExcelsiCon, Starfield actress Jessica Stone swaps places with a fan, Imogen. Jess needs to find a mislaid script before she’s accused of leaking it, and Imogen hopes for an opportunity to promote the #Save Amara initiative. I enjoyed how they both experience a different side of fandom. Imogen discovers the pressures of being a star, when con appearances are your job, and, away from the spotlight, Jess discovers how cons allow people to come together and celebrate things they love. My only disappointment was the way they both deceive Imogen’s fandom friend, Harper. I wish that had been handled differently.
The Little Bookshop at Herring Cove by Kellie Hailes: Unlike other books I’ve borrowed because they had “bookshop” in the title, this didn’t focus very much on books, nor did it describe its bookshop vividly. Sophie could have easily owned a different sort of shop without changing the plot, the setting or the atmosphere. This is a light-hearted romance about nice people in a generic seaside town -- not what I was looking for. I wanted more about books and a stronger sense of place.
Lilac Girls by Martha Hall Kelly (narrated by Cassandra Campbell, Kathleen Gati and Kathrin Kana): This begins with three different women at the start of WWII -- a teenager in Poland, a newly-graduated doctor in Germany and a wealthy consulate worker in New York -- and becomes about the Ravensbruck Rabbits, Polish political prisoners subjected to medical experimentation. Not what I expected or wanted to be reading (which is not its fault. I switched to the ebook, because I'm irrationally squeamish about some medical things and cope better when reading to myself). This story is compelling and does a good job of showing how the pain and trauma didn’t just end with the war. And it’s incredibly important to keep telling stories about distressing parts of history.
The Other Side of the Sky by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner: More or less the sort of story I expected from these two. Nimh is the Divine One in a world of magic and prophecy. North is a prince in a floating city of science and engineering. Nimh believes the gods fled into the sky thousands of years ago, and North believes no one still lives down on the surface… until he crashes his glider. I enjoyed this but don’t feel any emotional investment -- yet. I will read the sequel.
Spoiler Alert by Olivia Dade: April and Marcus keep fandom separate from their professional lives -- April to avoid negative comments, Marcus (an actor) to avoid violating his contract. So when Marcus sees a cosplay photo of April online, he doesn’t recognise his friend, he just sees a gorgeous woman getting nasty comments and invites her to dinner. I was hooked. As a romance, this didn’t always focus on the things I most wanted it to, but I understood why it made those narrative choices and liked how the characters resolved their mistakes. And I really liked it as a story about fanfiction and the way we tell stories in response to other stories.
Big Love, Tiny House by Olivia Dade: Lucy goes on a Tiny House Hunting show and drags along her best friend Sebastian. I’ve watched countless tiny house videos on Youtube, so it was fun to see tiny houses depicted in fiction -- although I was disappointed that all the houses are so disastrously bad. Beyond that, I have no strong feelings one way or another about this romance novella.
Memento: an Illuminae Files novella by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff (narrated by a full cast): A bonus prequel, set aboard the Alexander prior to the events of Illuminae. The audiobook is so well done! Even though this is a short story/novella, I cared about the new characters it introduces -- I really like the epistolary format and how it requires the reader to fill in some of the gaps for themselves. (I think that’s part of why I love The Illuminae Files but so far have no strong feelings about Kaufman and Kristoff’s latest series.) And it’s always interesting to see more of AIDAN.

All flower asks for Cimmerian.
Cimmerian:
O-oh jeez, that’s...a lot of questions, huh? Well, better let’s get to it then.
Alisons: Sexuality?
I’m polysexual.
Amaranth: Pronouns/Gender?
Trans man. He/him pronouns, please.
Amaryllis: Birthday?
December 1st. I’m a winter baby.
Anemone: Favorite flower?
Uhm, sunflowers, probably.
Angelonia: Favorite t.v. show?
If I have to be honest, I don’t really...watch TV all that often. But uh, anything they air on Animal Planet, to be honest. Do you remember that old TV show about the life of meerkats? Fucking loved that shit.
Arum-Lily: What’s the farthest you’d go for a stranger?
That...really depends. I wouldn’t go too far, after all, I don’t know this person, but basic respect and kindness are always a given. I’m not a hero either, I wouldn’t risk my life for them. So, I’d say most of the time, just small favours.
Aster: What’s one of your favorite quotes?
Literally fucking anything that leaves Vincent’s mouth once he gets a little tipsy, this man lacks filter when drunk and it’s fucking great. I know you probably expected some quote with deep meaning, since I have a major in English, but I am very sorry to disappoint.
Aubrieta: Favorite drink?
Pain drink is going to be Whiskey, but anything a little bit fancier then it’s Pina Colada. I like sweet things.
Baby’s Breath: Would you kiss the last person you kissed again?
Yes, absolutely, zero hesitation.
Balsam Fir: Have you ever been in love?
Hm...unfortunately...
Baneberries: Favorite song?
........Two Trucks by Lemon demon. Don’t judge me, it’s a fucking great song.
Basket of Gold: Describe your family.
Hm, well, they were great, really. Very caring and loving...Yeah, this question is making me feel sad.
Beebalm: Do you have a best friend? Who is it?
Uhhh...I’m gonna say it’s either North, Tiff, Han or Bright. I’d say Foster too, but...I don’t know, we kind of had a falling out because of our work. It’s hard to meet up.
Begonia: Favorite color?
...I’ll give you one guess.
Bellflower: Favorite animal?
Toads, love these fat boys.
Bergenia: Are you a morning or night person?
Definitely morning. Not that I like waking up early, but I definitely function better in the mornings.
Black-Eyed Susan: If you could be any animal for a day, what would it be?
A hognose snake, they have very cute noses.
Bloodroots: When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A teacher, of all things. Mostly because I thought teachers got free summer too. Then I went to high school, saw what little shits my peers were, and immediately changed my decision.
Bluemink: What are your thoughts on children?
I love kids! I always wanted to be a father. Unfortunately, with being nearly 40 now and swarmed with work...I don’t think that’ll ever happen.
Blazing Stars: What are you afraid of? Is there a reason why?
Cars, because of trauma that I’d rather not get into. And, uh...I have apeirophobia. It’s...stupid, I know, many people would probably like to live on for forever. But for me, it’s just...it’s horrible. I don’t even know why. I guess it has something to do with existential dread.
Borage: Give a random fact about your childhood.
I had a lot of adoptive siblings and cousins, we were always close, and would always get into trouble together. I was raised on a farm with woods nearby, you can imagine I had a lot of opportunities and places where I could get hurt at, and I did. I was a stupid and reckless kid.
Bugleherb: How would you spend your last day on Earth?
Oh man, that’s a loaded question...Honestly? I’d like to reach out to my family, spend my last day with them.
Buttercup: Relationship Status?
Taken~ By two wonderful, cute men.
Camelia: If you could visit anywhere, where would you want to go?
Oh, there’s a lot of places I’d like to explore, probably too many to list. As long as it’s as far away from civilisation as possible, I’m good.
Candytufts: When do you feel most loved?
I like to be held, I love hugs, they make me feel safe and loved. Preferably under a warm blanket with my partner or partners, late in the evening, the rain falling outside and the room is nearly completely dark as we cuddle...
Canna: Do you have any tattoos?
I used to want to, as a teen, but unfortunately no...I did see some people tattoo over their burn scars, and I’ve been thinking about it, but considering how large my scars are it’d cost a lot, be very time consuming and most likely painful. So I don’t know, but I’m considering it.
Canterbury Bells: Do you have any piercings?
Used to have a few as a teenager, now I only have one in my right ear.
California Poppy: Height?
I’m 5′9′’.
Cardinal Flower: Do you believe in ghosts?
In ghosts? No, not really.
Carnation: What are you currently wearing?
I’ll let you guess.
Catnip: Have you ever slept with a nightlight?
Sure did, I still sometimes do when my nightmares get the best of me.
Chives: Who was the last person you hugged?
Jackie.
Chrysanthemum: Who’s the last person you kissed?
Northy, obviously~
Cock’s Comb: Favorite font?
My heart tells me Comic Sans, but my brain’s telling me to shut the fuck up and pick a normal font.
Columbine: Are you tired?
Always, 24/7.
Common Boneset: What are you looking forward to?
Autumn, we’re close to Summer and god damn it didn’t even start but I’m already over it.
Coneflower: Dream job?
I’m pretty content with my current one, but uh...maybe something less stressful? Probably a book author.
Crane’s-Bill: Introvert or extrovert?
Introvert, definitely.
Crown Imperial: What’s the farthest you would go for someone you care about?
Honestly? I’d probably give my life to them. It mostly depends on the person though, and how much I care about them.
Cyclamen: Did you have a favorite stuffed animal as a child? What was it?
I had a ragdoll elephant named Mr Trunk. Still do, actually, he’s one of the few things I took with me when I started working here. He’s now sitting on my bookcase at my apartment.
Daffodil: What’s your zodiac sign?
Sagittarius.
Dahlia: Have you done anything worth remembering?
I don’t think so, no.
Daisy: What do you feel is your greatest accomplishment?
Well...I guess overcoming my trauma counts as an accomplishment?
Daylily: What would you do if your parents didn’t like your partner(s)?
Well, first of all, my biological parents are dead and my adoptive ones think I’m dead. But, if that weren’t the case, I don’t think Ma and Pa are the kind fo people who’d try to get between me and my partners. I feel like if they were legitimately concerned for me or had deep worries about my partner, they’d talk to me about it. So, nothing too dramatic.
Dendrobium: Who is the last person that you said “I love you” to?
...I’d rather not talk about them.
False Goat’s Beard: What is something you are good at?
Does writing shitty slashfics count?
Foxgloves: What’s something you’re bad at?
Do you want a list or something?
Freesia: What are three good things that have happened in the past month?
Well...I started dating Jackie.
Garden Cosmos: How was your day today?
Tiring, so the usual.
Gardenia: Are you happy with where you’re at in your life?
...It could be worse, honestly.
Gladiolus: What is something you hope to do in the next year or two?
...Uh...if my relationship with Karlos and Jack lasts...well...uhm...God, don’t tell them I said that, alright? But...getting married seems...nice...
Glory-of-the-Snow: What are ten things that make you happy/you’re grateful to have in your life?
My friends. They’re great, I don’t know where I’d be without them. Especially Tiff, they do so much for me...don’t tell them I said that, they don’t need any more of an ego boost.
Heliotropium: What helps you calm down when you feel stressed?
A good book, audiobook or ASMR and a scented candle in an otherwise quiet room usually does the trick.
Hellebore: How do you show affection?
Usually through words, I didn’t get that damn doctorate for nothing.
Hoary Stock: What are you proudest of?
My work, I guess? My writing? Wait, no, I just remembered my longest work of fiction is a crackfic about mythological characters- I take that back.
Hollyhock: Describe your ideal day.
Just having an entire day to myself, no need to do any work, no stress, no deadlines.
Hyacinth: What do you like to do in your free time?
I take care of my pets and plants, read books, write.
Hydrangea: How long have you known your best friend? How did you meet them?
Oh man, it’s been a few years now. Uhm, my longest friend in the Foundation is Foster, we met in high school, but like I said we’ve had a bit of a falling out. Then it’s Tiff, I met them when I first joined the Ethics Committee. I met Karlos and Bright a few years later, and I’ve known Han for the least amount of time, but it’s still been years.
Irises: Who can you talk to about (almost) everything?
Uhm...Hm...Probably Tiff or Karlos. Han too, he’s a good listener.
Laceleaf: How many friends do you have?
A few. On top of the previously mentioned ones I’m also quite close to Clef, Kondraki and Light.
Lantanas: What’s the best compliment you’ve ever received?
Literally, any kind of compliment either of the O5-1′s or O5-11 gave me. Do you have any god damn idea how fucking hard it is to impress the Ones? And Ten...well, he’s just really nice and I appreciate him.
Larkspur: What do you think of yourself?
Anyway, next question!
Lavender: What’s your favorite thing about yourself?
I have great fucking puns and if anybody says otherwise, they’re fucking wrong.
Leather Flower: What’s your least favorite thing about yourself?
Do you want a list?
Lilac: What’s something you liked to do as a child?
Exploring, I guess it never really changed, I like spending time in nature, I just never have the time to.
Lily: Who was your best friend when you were a kid?
........Probably one of my siblings.
Lily of the Incas: What is something you still feel guilty for?
A lot, but let’s not talk about that.
Lily of the Nile: What is something you feel guilty for that you shouldn’t feel guilty about?
Jesus Christ, what’s with these questions?
Lupine: What does your name mean? Why is that your name?
I had to look it up, and apparently, Jeremiah means “Yahweh will exalt”. I had no idea my name actually had a religious meaning. When I was born I was named after my grandma, and when I was changing my name I decided to kind of keep with the theme and named myself after my grandpa. He doesn’t know, actually, I never came out to them, but I like to think he’d be happy that I named myself after him
Marigold: Where did you grow up? Tell us about it.
Like I said before, in a small rural town on a small farm. Not much to talk about, really, I was a typical kid that grew up on the farm. Always got in trouble and always hurt myself doing stupid shit.
Morning Glory: What was your bedroom like growing up?
I was quite a tomboy and I loved cows, so just imagine a room with walls painted to resemble a pasture with cows on it and cow-themed furniture. Handmade too, by my grandpa and Pa, of course.
Mugworts: What was it like for you as a teenager? Did you enjoy your teenage years?
I uh...I’d rather not talk about it.
Norwegian Angelica: Tell us about your mom.
Ma was a great woman, she always cared for me and my siblings, she treated me like her own kid straight away. Didn’t even batted an eye. Never made me feel weird or wrong for liking “boy things” like other adults outside of our family. She was quite fiercely protective of me too, quite a mama bear, I must say. A strong woman, could probably suplex a bear.
Onions: Tell about your dad.
Pa was...well, Pa was just wonderful. He didn’t even hesitate for a second to take me in when his sis and my biological mother died. He was the first person I saw when I woke up at the hospital. He always made sure I was happy and taken care of. He taught me how to hunt and fight and play soccer and football. He was always very loudly supportive of me. I cannot express enough just how much I’m grateful to him and Ma.
Orchid: Tell about your grandparents.
They were very kind, your traditional old couple. I loved granny, but I was always closer to my grandpa. He taught me how to fish, I could always confide in him. He’s a great guy. Granny was wonderful too, I remember I always helped her out in her garden, she’d always scare me with potato bastards- I mean potato beetles, sorry, old habit- I fucking hate these motherfuckers. I love all animals, except for these ones. Potato bastards can suck a dick.
Pansy: What was your most memorable birthday? What made it be so memorable?
[Heavy sigh] My 4th birthday, my older brothers decided it’d be a fun idea to pick every potato beetle they could find from granny’s garden and throw them at me as a “birthday present”...........You know, I think I just realised why I hate these beetles so much.
Peony: What was your first job?
My first official job was in the Foundation, they hired me right when I finished college to help contain one anomaly, then I just stuck around and worked in Human Resources. I don’t think working small chores in our neighbours’ farms for some pocket change counted as a job.
Petunia: If you’re in a relationship, how did you meet your partner(s)? If you’re not in a relationship, how did you meet your crush/how do you hope to meet your future partner(s), if you want any?
I met North when he started working as a junior researcher in the same Site as me. Bright, I knew for longer for uh...obvious reasons, but I first met him in person during a disciplinary meeting. I also worked as an Ethics Committee Liaison in Site-19. You can imagine our relationship wasn’t the best at first.
Pincushion: How do you deal with pain?
Die.
Pink: Where is home?
Well, that sure is a deep fucking question. At this point...I don’t know, honestly.
Plantain Lilies: If you could go back in time, what is one thing you would stop/change?
...It’s...let’s not talk about that.
Prairie Gentian: Who is someone you look up to? Describe them.
No way in hell I’m telling you, he could read this blog.
Primrose: Describe your ideal life.
Living in a cottage in the forest or mountains as a fairly famous writer, with a spouse and a few kids.
Rhodendron: What is something you used to believe in as a child?
Soulmates. Then I grew a brain.
Ricinus: Who’s the most important in your life?
...So anyways.
Rose: What’s your favorite sound?
Uh, so you know how I listen to ASMR? Probably tapping.
Rosemallows: What’s your favorite memory?
Any kind of holiday with my family, we’d always get together and celebrate.
Sage: What’s your least favorite memory?
Let’s not talk about that!
Snapdragon: At this moment, what do you want?
...Hm...Well, I am kind of hungry, I guess after this I should go eat something.
St. John’s Wort: Is it easy or difficult for you to express how you feel about things?
I think I’m kind of...intermediate on that scale. Generally, it’s easy for me unless it’s something very personal.
Sunflower: What is something you don’t want to imagine life without?
...yeah, another question I’m skipping.
Sweet Pea: How much sleep did you get last night?
Not a lot, I’m quite tired today.
Tickseed: What’s your main reason to get up every morning?
Work, I guess? Mostly just routine.
Touch-Me-Not: How do you feel about your current job?
Fucking stressful and exhausting, but it could be worse. That’s talking about my chairman position. But my work on Project X? I like it, one of the more pleasant jobs I had at the Foundation.
Transvaal Daisy: What’s your favorite item of clothing?
...Yeah, just take a guess.
Tropical White Morning Glory: Describe your aesthetic.
Cozy, dark and gold.
Tulip: What would be the best present to get you?
...That’s a bit personal, actually.
Vervain: What’s stressing you out most right now?
The sheer amount of these questions, Jesus fucking Christ.
Wisteria: How many books have you read in the past few months? What were they called?
Unfortunately, I don’t have time for books lately, I did listen to a few audiobooks though. Also, I’m planning to revisit the Warrior Cats books because nostalgia and I need to know what the fuck is happening with these cats lately.
Wolf’s Bane: Where do you want to be in life this time next year?
Hopefully not dead.
Zinnia: Give a random fact about yourself.
Uhhh...hm...I’m petty, but you probably knew that already.
#asks#cimm.txt#ask game#ooc: ill get to the rest later this shit drained me horribly and i need a break
