Honestly one of my favorite things recently has been imagining the backstories of the Tarnished based on the little descriptions we get on the background options, like

The Prisoner is a former noble, but I think they were also a Carian Noble, or at least descended from one. See, their starting spell is a prototype for the Carian Phalanx, so I like to think that it’s possible their ancestor was a Noble who took off on the Long March with Godfrey, and settled and passed down his magic in his bloodline. And one day, The Prisoner was imprisoned for reasons, and only could remember the one spell their ancestor passed down: The Magic Glintblade. It’d also make it poetic if they marry Ranni, as they would return and become a “Carian” Noble once more.

Or, how the Hero is said to be the descendant of a Badlands Chieftain. So the possibility of them being a descendant of Hoarah Loux/Godfrey. So that means that the Hero could very well have left without being made aware of Hoarah Loux’s connection to the Lands Between, and would add a tinge of tragedy to the Second-to-last fight, as you’d basically be fighting your However-many-greats Grandfather.

Along with that, I’ve been thinking abt Miquella, and uh. If the shit abt him being St. Trina is true, then. He’s like, suspicious as fuck, right??? Like it’s not just me thinking that. The idea of a demigod with the disarming guise of a child, who can compel affection and calm others is kind of, uh. Weird. Especially when you think about all the people in the Haligtree, some of whom can literally explode. Like what if Miquella is a bit more sinister than he appears? Idk, just a thought.

Speaking of, I really adore how Godfrey’s just, huge. Like it was entirely possible that he would just be our size, but him just being big is funny as hell, because there’s no particular reason stated for it besides being raised to be a demigod but even then that doesn’t prove much since Godwyn was a demigod and wasn’t that big. And they could have done some bullshit where “Oh he had a Great Rune somehow which was why he was so big!” But no they just made him big for no reason and that is sick

Morgott basically saying “Oh Gods mom is gonna kill me when she finds out I broke her chairs” is funny as hell to me. Also the fact that Mohg has such inferiority issues that he STOLE the second half of his brother’s name and slapped it onto his own to make his dynasty name is both sweet and hilarious to me.

Ok so there’s some lines of Marika casting someone out to the fringes you get from Melina at the Dectus Lift, and I headcanon that as being Godrick. Specifically, Godrick after Kristoff imprisoned Godefroy who could have been his father or something. Idk, I just think the idea of Marika saying “Listen, you can either stay with the Order and become one with it, or leave and start over” is just kind of, strange? Like was she giving Godrick a chance to leave the Order as a whole? Because it would go with Marika’s lack of faith in it, if she allowed Godrick the choice. Also it kind of gives Godrick some tragedy, as his grandmother or w/e basically gave him an ultimatum, leave or be SUPER RELIGIOUS. And knowing what happens to him, he left. And it contextualizes his last words

The game does a really good job of hiding it’s Bloodborne inspirations, because at first it just looks like a generic fantasy world, but then you go underground. And you find Aliens, Outer Gods, ruined Eternal Cities. And you realize that the Greater Will is not the only Higher Being in this world, and there are others trying to usurp its power for their own needs.

Kale’s lines at the beginning carry so much more fucking weight after the Cathedral Of The Forsaken and that’s fucking amazing.

He’s not particular. He’ll ask if it looks like his partner isn’t going to, but he doesn’t mind if they decide to make the move first. 

💡 What made them realize their sexuality? 

When he was first in Deadlock, the Deadlock iteration before he and Ashe took over, he realised that he didn’t really care about his partner’s gender at all. He liked the cute little ammo boy who confided in him that he’d transitioned from his birth gender three years priod as much as he liked the waitress at his favorite diner with the sweet ass. For the longest time, he didn’t reallze there was a name for his own sexuality until he was in Blackwatch and Gabe asked him after seeing him flirt with anyone he was attracted to. It wasn’t until then that he learned about the different sexualities and names and realized his was called Pansexuality. 

💌 When was their first serious relationship? 

Blackwatch with his team’s espionage specialist. She was beautiful, deadly, and they had a lot in common. He was with her for a good three years before they broke it off.

There was a cute little medic on Overwatch’s day crew he was smitten with for a while. They dated for maybe 6 months before they both admitted that their schedules just didn’t mix and she wanted to move to the Swiss base for more training. Before the fall, they still exchanged letters and remained good friends.

🌙 Have they ever had a one night stand? 

Plenty. He’s a warm-blooded person with intimate wants and has no qualms with finding sex without emotional attachment when he needs it. He’s pretty adamant that both parties understand that though. He won’t have a one night stand unless the other party knows he’s literally there because they’re attractive, and they both just want to bang. He’s not into leaving someone with emotional issues.

🍷 How far would they go on a first date?

Jesse lets his partner determine the pace. He watches their body language and how the situation is going and determines his moves based on that. Jesse is a pretty fly-by-the-seat-of-his-pants guy so can sometimes move fast. This is why he’s tailored his approach based on his partner on the date. Saves them all the heartache and stuff.

- Jesse has these in his regular verse. The one on his left arm was done after the loss of the bottom half of his arm and is just a geometric design.

- The design on his upper right arm is of a Yeii, a Great Spirit. It’s a throwback to his culture as well as his grandfather who would always tout that no matter what he did or where he would go, the Yeii would always be watching him.

Chest Tattoo

– This is also in regular verse. It is the Navajo Sun symbol with the rays replaced with Eagle and Owl Feathers. Feathers are a symbol of prayer.

– The Eagle Feathers at the North, South, East, and West directions are colored for the 4 sacred colors of the Dine. In Regular Verse, his Grandfather’s spirit companion was an Eagle.

–The owl feathers make up the rays in between the directional feathers. In the Normal Verse, they represent prayers from the people dearest to him in his life.

-- Ma’iitsoh is the Navajo name given to him based on his Spirit Companion. The skull is that of a wolf with Navajo geometric designs on it. Two Peacemaker pistols frame it as well as feathers and some American Desert Flowers.

Right Hand Tattoo.

-- The Eye of Horus was specifically gotten for protection to appease Ana and Fareeha. When Ana told him what the Eye meant and Fareeha told him he should get it so he could be safe on his “trips” ( read: missions), he couldn’t NOT get it.

It’s also part of Jesse’s “monster” form when he’s in between shifting and changing skins. Sometimes Kynthelig lives in the tattoo on Jesse’s back, sometimes on a skull he keeps near his door.

Spine Tattoo

-- A Sacred Geometry tattoo that incorporates the footprints of the animals Jesse prefers to turn into. Golden Eagle, Mustang, Wolf, Stag, Great Horned Owl.

Right Hand Tattoo

--A Nordic Stave for keeping a Prisoner locked up tight. It was given to him by a Powerful witch he met in the early days of being a Skinwalker to help keep him in his own body. After all, he’s technically not human anymore.

Bein’ bed partners didn’ take that away, but it did complicate it....Maybe she wanted more. I dunno.

An’ she took t’the gang more’n me. I fell into Deadlock ‘cause I didn’ have a choice. I lost everything, was at the wrong place, wrong time... fell into them and had nowhere else to go. Ashe? She jus’ took to it. She belonged there, reveled in everything we did. Didn’ feel no remorse. Bein’ top dog gave her a power trip she jus’ took to.

Headcanon: Joel Morricone

When Gabriel learned Jesse hadn’t completed school, he’d made the kid get his GED. It only served to prove what he already knew. Jesse was smart when he applied his brain to more than just beating up other agents and getting out of trouble like a slick little coyote. Sure seemed to floor Morrison though, that was a bonus.

It wasn’t until Jesse had come to him after a particularly hard mission that had him down for a few months and mentioned he wanted to get a degree. Online stuff, nothing he needed to give his complete attention to because he also wanted to continue Blackwatch.

Gabe couldn’t tell him no.

Jesse graduated from the university of Phoenix with honors and a BA in journalism and an Associate’s degree in anthropology, both of which floored the people who knew him.

After leaving Overwatch, Jesse did get bored often. Even while on the run from his Outlaw status, he managed to get a job under the pen name Joel Morricone where he spent his years on the run writing about the top trending topics in politics, war and culture. 

He’s been extremely careful with this name as well. Everything is electronically wired to a bank under his name on the reservation and completely not connected in any way to Jesse McCree. He’s made sure people like Sombra weren’t able to find out who he is. And even after the recall he’s still writing. If you see him with glasses on, nine times out of ten, he’s writing.

Bonus: He started it as a joke for himself, but Jesse has two ongoing trashy cowboy romance series that are best sellers around the globe and he’s currently working on a more serious series involving the supernatural world. He considers the trashy romance his biggest joke in the world. Loves it.

Everything I have headcanon’d for younger Jesse remains the same up to adoption by his Grandfather. This is where things change.

Skinwalker, dark Navajo practices of the witch. It’s an act of balance between the light and dark, the good and bad...

When adopted by Sicheii, Jesse was introduced to the Navajo witch practices. Considered dark by many of his people and even more outsiders, jessed learned to take each and every practice seriously. His path was one of earth, deep-seated in the roots of the trees and rocks and the nature that comes with it. His grandfather taught him the ancestral calling of dark spirits or calling on the dead and the other side. He learned to heal through the use of herbal plants and chants. When his grandfather passed away and jesse saw his twisted soul leaving, Jesse cemented in his head the thought that he didn’t want to turn into a monster, and so practiced whatever arts of “goodness” he could to combat the dark ones.” Balance, he was told, was key...

-- He was 14 when he went on the journey, alone, to find his forms, the animals that would be easiest to shed his skin and become, that wuld imprint on his soul and become part of him. They gave him their names as they gave him their forms. They have their own names that he adopts as their form.

Golden Eagle - Adolar “Noble Eagle”

Mustang - Kilchii “red boy”

Wolf - Badr “Full Moon” (Jesse would later realize this form was more comfortable and prevalent in his mind when around Ana Amari and Fareeha)

Stag  - Kynthelig (Kin-eh-lig) “Guide” (He wouldn’t know this form’s name until he met Kynthelig, his spirit companion, later in his travels. Until then, it was simply known as No Name.)

Great-horned Owl - Sani “Old one”

-- It was this witchcraft passed onto him that kept him alive during his harsh years with Deadlock. It instilled healthy fear into those that didn’t take his hearitage seriously or tried to hurt him, and helped him heal when thet wasn’t enough. Jesse would continue to learn the ways of the yee naaldlooshi from local skinwalkers. Like calls to like after all. It earns the mojave desert an icon, a myth passed onto tourists and travellers and the people who reside there. The Mojave Witchling. A ghost story for kids that don’t know about Jesse.

-- He was 16 when he performed a ritual that would give him Dead Eye. It’s both a gift from the yeii and a curse. A gift to pass judgment as he sees fit, a curse because of the pain and the nightmares that follow... and the fact that the veil between what is real and what is terrible doesn’t seem to exist for him anymore.

-- Blackwatch was hard for him to adjust to. It was structured, by the book, scientific. Everything seemed so far away from the natural world he was used to that it made him uncomfortable. There are way too many monsters in Overwatch, not considering the moral ones.

-- He meeds his spirit companion, Kynthelig on a mission in Ireland. The two meld so easily that when Jesse sheds his skin and before donning another, he takes on the visage of a towering antlered monster with red eyes. Kynthelig resides in Jesse’s Dead Eye until he will later get his tattoo and even later when he will acquire a stag skull.

-- It’s on this mission he uses Dead Eye for the first time and Gabriel Reyes notices that what he thoguht wasn’t right about the cowboy was really not right and jesse admits to his history and practice. It’s the first time he’s seen Gabe that shaken. Ana Amari is the only other person to ever figure it out without being told. 

-- After the fall of Overwatch, Jesse is quick to return to his roots in the Mojave desert where the stories of the Mojave Witchling return when he begins to use his practice for bounty hunting, monster slaying as well as spiritual healing. When people come knocking and looking, especially people bearing the mark of Talon, jesse is quick to pick up and move into the Colorado mountains where he prefers to live in cabin and keep away from as many suspicious people as he can. this is where the Recall finds him.

-- Jesse finds it hard to get back into a human frame of mind after Walking. The longer he’s out of his own skin, the longer he things more like a spirit. Kynthelig helps him ground, most of the time.
