Let’s talk about Mr Outback
Mr Outback is an npc from orange oasis whom is incredibly easy to miss for several reasons yet who’s dialogue has large lore implications for the world of omori, so let’s refresh ourselves on who this guy is
Tumblr media
This is Mr Outback, he can also be found at the train station before going to orange oasis and as I said before he’s an Incredibly easy to miss npc that I’m sure several people who will see this post never even encountered on their first playthrough, this is due to the fact Mr Outback cannot be interacted with after completing the lost library, and since many players don’t explore orange oasis immediately this guy just won’t be available to talk to
Tumblr media
[excerpt from the omori wiki about this, ps that I don’t agree with the wiki writer’s assumption here, I think he just built a sand sculpture of himself and left]
But why is this npc important? You must be asking if you aren’t familiar with him. Well, his dialogue is… to my knowledge, the only place in omori that implies headspace is more then just a lucid dream sunny experiences
For convenience I’ve gathered all relevant dialogue here for you to read if you haven’t or just don’t remember what he says:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So there it is, In all its glory… the singular place in omori that suggests not only that Sunny’s headspace is real in some capacity, but that other people have them too and some like Mr outback here can travel between them
But what exactly does all of this say about the nature of headspace(s)? I aim to break it down
“Them folks who’ve been here long… they know more then they’re letting on”
This line is like. Stupidly ominous for no reason, in my opinion it’s about the three great creatures, and is Mr Outback’s way of warning Sunny that dream characters become more aware and powerful the longer they exist, dreams aren’t meant to be so permanent… so loved in as Sunny’s headspace is
“We got a third eye, you could say… a sixth sense, if you catch my drift”
This line is more intuitive, combined with everything else he says this line comes off as him telling Sunny that creating a headspace is a special ability that they and presumably other people share, he’s being kind of shady as he says it too, like he wants to make sure the characters of Sunny’s world aren’t hearing their conversation
“But you, dark haired kiddo, your aura’s all cattywampus! It’s all dark and twisted and it ain’t mellowin down anytime soon.”
I feel the need to touch on this line because it means Mr Outback either straight up went to blackspace, or can tell without going to Blackspace that there’s something very wrong about Sunny’s headspace … none the less he doesn’t seem shocked, so while I feel that whitespaces and blackspaces aren’t necessarily a commonality between dreamers, I do think they’re common enough for Mr Outback to not flinch at encountering a space with one or both
The entire answer to “where am I?” Is incredibly loaded and actually contains the most information that I find important to this
“This place has been around since the beginning of time, I reckon”
This one line means so much … first of all, the phrasing of “this place” is why I say astral projection in my original post, this is a place… not a phenomenon, not a skill or a sense, a place… or I suppose a plain is a more apt description for how I’m thinking of it, I believe this to be saying that headspace’s all exist in some larger… place, another dimension is possible but I don’t think of it like that, I take it more as some kind of in-between realm … “astral plain” actually a pretty good thing to call it imo, especially since there’s a couple instances where it appears to be a direct window to the spirit world
Another interesting thing is that he follows this up with “I reckon” to specify that he actually ain’t sure if what he’s saying is true… jsut that he has some reason to think it, and while we aren’t given that reason, the idea that there is one intrigues me
“It looks different to everyone… but this time around, it’s pretty colorful and cutesy, for the most part… not to mention pretty dang big! That’s a powerful imagination you got there, kiddo”
This is just some general stuff about headspace(s) and how they work but at the end Mr Outback feels the need to comment on how big Sunny’s headspace, and the way the dialogue is formatted here… when read kinda makes it seem like this fact is giving Mr Outback pause, not to mention the wording of “powerful imagination” as opposed to the usual “big imagination” while it could be nothing… almost makes me wonder if being able to do what Sunny does with his headspace, how big it is, how complex it is, and how much power he has in it …, isn’t the same for everyone, and the choice of the word “powerful” here is… deliberate (but again, could be nothing)
“When someone looks for the truth… the world will create a set of keys, and those keys… they’ll take a different form dependin’ on the persons will. You know what your keys look like, don’t’cha? Just press [control to open hangmen menu]”
This…. This is a lot, so this seems like it’s saying that the existence of keys in dreamworlds is either completely consistent or just extremely common… one could take this to mean that all dreamworlds/headspaces are subconsciously desgined for finding truths but I don’t think this is the case, not only because I tend to believe that Sunny had access to headspace before the incident but also because the way Mr Outback talks about a “sixth sense” makes me feel like this is just a power, a thing that some people can do, just that it’s very very common for peoples brains to subconsciously add stuff like this to their headspace, just presumably things more mundane then Sunny’s truth
And then he breaks the fourth wall. I’m not gonna comment on that I think that’s probably just the devs being cheeky with this character and not actual lore.
“Don’t you know not to ask old folks that! I’d say give or take 33000 years though…but it’s not like that matters all that much at this point”
This line despite its initial shock value is pretty simple to me, Mr Outback is talking about time dilation here, he’s counting his age by how long he’s spent In the dream-plain as well as his real life, given Mr Outback is stated to be pretty old, my guess is that he’s probably a retired man taking the last bit of his life to bounce around other people’s dreams to give them advice and spread what information he has about dreamers, a presumably infinite amount of time can pass in these dream worlds without effecting the real world much- since it’s not to big of a stretch to guess dreamers have some control of this, one could presumably extend the time difference as long as they want it to be
So there’s some breakdowns of Mr Outback’s dialogue and the implications I’ve garnered … what do I think? Well, I think it’s fully possible for this to be the way omori’s world works, and I think it fits well with other debatably supernatural elements present in the game, earlier I mentioned that there are points where it seems this dreamplain place is connected to the spirit world, I said that because
1. Ghost Mari
2. The crossroads area at the end of the game
3. Sunny sees Basil’s Grandma at the crossroads before actually knowing she’s dead
That last thing in my opinion could mean that dreamers are more connected to the spiritworld then regular people, able to catch glimpses of it even in their waking lives, physical crossroads in the real world acting as hubs for spiritual connection and places that ghosts pass through, and thus this location being where sunny ends up after the fight with Basil when they’re both severely injured and close to death-
This is also why I believe the Basil in that area actually IS Basil and not a figment of Sunny’s imagination, in this instance they’re both accessing this limbo at the same time and end up running into each other while crossing through it
(to add to this idea, while I haven’t actually seen the statement in question, several people have told me that omocat’s mentioned Basil having his own headspace in some capacity, him and Sunny both being ‘Dreamers’ would put a lot more meaning to “my thoughts will follow you in your dreams” and give a bit of insight into why they understand each other so well and are so close in the first place, maybe Dreamers are just drawn to one another)
So that’s Mr Outback and the casual maybe sorta implied “headspace is real actually” implied canon deal… I just wanted to make a post about this because it’s insane and we as a fandom should talk about it more
So are we ever going to talk about the “headspace is real and a type of astral projection” thing or.

Omori wiki will make Omori out to be a villain from the start of the game and say that Punishment Area implies that Sunny killed Mewo and that Headspace is an alternate reality based on a few lines of dialogue from Mr Outback. They don't even have good sprite references on location and character pages.

Happy birthday, Sunny & Omori!
I wonder why Omori's birthday is the same as Sunny's... It makes sense since he's a part of Sunny (like a physical manifestation of his guilt!) but he's also a large part of Headspace, which has been indicated by characters like Mr Outback to be far older than Sunny himself:
Tumblr media
(Mr Outback about Headspace)
Still, Omori might not have always been a part of it. It seems he was most likely created by Sunny- but then, wouldn't his birthday be the day he first appeared in HS/ Sunny started using him as a coping mechanism.
Perhaps Sunny subconsciously chose his birthday to be the same as his own, to feel closer to Omori and better experience his ideal world with the people he missed? For all we know, in this regard, Omori was just a way for Sunny to actually experience a birthday celebration with his friends since Sunny himself didn't leave the house for years! I'm not certain, but it sure is interesting to consider :]
I'd love to see your thoughts in reblogs, and another happy birthday to Sunny & Omori!! :D

i feel like omori is very flawed as a game. as a story, it works well, and it has some pretty good ideas for mechanics, but in terms of the game design, it feels lacking.
the main reason for this, i think, is that headspace just blows. the main quests are a bit tedious and narratively uninteresting, and you just kind of want to skip over them to go back to faraway where you can enjoy well written scenes with endearing characters. and while there is interesting stuff to find in headspace, like the lost forest, the keeper of the castle, the KEY holes, the blackspace enterances, the dialogue which implies there's more behind the scenes, all of this cool stuff is off the beaten path. nearly every sidequest i've done in headspace has been "go find this thing for this character and bring it back to them for a reward." joke book, teddy bear, flower puzzle, mr. plantegg, hector, mr. scarecrow guy, brother mole, its just so tedious!
and because all the side quests are the same, and all the main quests are boring, most players aren't going to find any of the actually cool content, simply because after a while, they're gonna get sick of headspace, and just want to skip to the faraway segments. how many people who played omori even knew about orange oasis the first time?
OMORI, as a game, fails to do headspace justice, as it neither makes exploring to find the cool parts fun, nor places the interestint bits in a player's path so they'll get to see them. and even if this is intentional, and you want to get into a debate about whether or not games need to be fun, and you wanna bring up Pathologic or something, that still doesn't excuse the fact that my desire to continue playing the game that i bought is hindered by the fact so much of it takes place in a tedious, narratively drained series of wacky locations. with pathologic, the point is that its a challenge. you aren't playing because its fun, you're playing because you want to win. or so ive been told.
i suppose headspace does work to illustrate how sunny's fantasy world is an unfulfilling carousel of childish pleasures and escapism, and that ultimately sunny needs to return to reality, but despite that there's good gameplay mechanics in headspace which you don't get to engage with in faraway! and legitimately interesting stuff which ties back into the main story, like mr. outback, or the deeper well creatures, or the man on fire, or daddy longlegs. its just that all this good stuff is sprinkled between a bunch of nothing, and so much of it you have to be invested enough in headspace to go out of your way to crawl through it and–
hey, wait a sec. i think im kind of getting it a little bit. players who are already invested in headspace will likely spend more time there and find more stuff to fuel their investment. these are likely hikikomori route players. players who are more invested in the faraway stuff can skip over headspace and be no worse for wear. it kind of works, just not for me, because im taking the game as a whole. i want to have it all. i guess that kind of works too, in a way.
"Your soul is split, but you can only choose one path."

On the topic of head space cycles, there have probably been only a few.
Dialogue from Mr. Outback implies that version of headspace we see in game is the largest it’s been so u definitely think it started small (Probably only Whitespace and the Neighbors room) and expanded overtime
As for Stranger I think he’s either a projection of Basil’s conscience or a personification of Sunny’s own conscience (depending on how supernatural you think the game is).
And that he spawned out of the idea of Sunny moving away. Either it being Basil’s unconscious mind reaching out to Sunny one last time or Sunny’s mind creating him out of a last ditch effort for him to find and accept the truth.
Either way i imagine he only came to be around the time Sunny learned that he would be moving away, as the way his dialogue is phrased it seems like this is the first time he’s tried to reach out to Omori/Sunny.
As for the latter half of this post
The way I see it, the whole point of the good ending was him accepting the truth and moving past the need for Omori and headspace since the point of their existence was to repress the truth.
Because of that i don’t think he would go back to being completely isolated from the world. He would probably still be somewhat of a shut-in but not to the extent of lying in bed all day dreaming. Rather he would just a hard time making new friends.
But if he was able to find the strength to accept the truth and be able to share it with the others, then i think he would be able to find the strength to rebuild his life.
Albeit very slow and steadily.
Idk if this made any sense or not. I’m not very good at reading my own words. I just wanted to share my thoughts.
sometimes i wonder how many loops of the Headspace Sunny went over
he spent four years laying in bed, and it took three days for the full cycle to happen - Basil disappears, friends try to find him, Blackspace happenings, all of it. so how many loops did he go through in those 1460-ish days?
with that, what new developments were there? i’ve always wondered if Headspace started small and grew overtime. if it started with just Sunny, Basil, Mari, Aubrey, Kel and Hero before expanding. if it only grew so large so that Sunny could suppress the truth for even longer periods of time.
a few characters also have question surrounding them for me. Stranger in particular has my attention - was he newer or has he always been around? i feel like he’s probably a permanent fixture, but maybe he sprouted out of the corpse of a Basil. and also whether or not Basil’s have always been killed, or if that’s also a new thing. and Aubrey’s crush - was it a lure to keep Sunny in for longer? has her fraudulent affection grown over the years? or was it always so strong?
and also, how would it affect Sunny? how out of touch is he with the world around him - not just out of tune with his old friends, but the world. how hard would it be for him to catch up? in school, in social development, in everything - will Sunny actually be able to catch up? will he be able to put in that commitment? or would he relapse into old habits?
sometimes i wonder if he and Basil actually survive the good ending - or if the lightness of it gives way soon after

What exactly is Headspace?
Tumblr media
Is it a dream? An alternate universe? (TW: mental illness, spoilers)
In this post, I will be discussing a fictional phenomenon resulting from dissociative disorder that exists only in the OMORI universe. I want to impress two seemingly contradictory points:
1) Headspace is simply NOT possible in the real-life. 2) Headspace is still not a alternate universe, its just a dream.
Rather I would like to put forward a soft science fiction explanation using all the information we’ve been given about the topic.
Part 1: Headspace is NOT possible in the real life.
The true nature of Headspace is much close to that of a coma than secret universe. If a coma is sleeping, but longer. Then Headspace is dreaming, but longer. Headspace is not its own universe, just an extended dream that continues in the back of the patient’s mind during waking hours. We know this because whenever Sunny returns to the dream he find things have changed while he is awake. For example, when the Playground Kids enter Jawsum’s employment, and when Omori detains the Deep Well Creatures while Sunny is absent. Furthermore, Headspace creatures do not have sentience anymore than characters in our real-life dreams. Rather they are characters manufactured by the unconscious recesses of our minds. They only appear to have sentience, when in reality they are only puppets being manipulated by the sleeper’s mind.  Headspace being only a dream would also explain why every world is tailor made to the individuals symbolic ideas. Much like real-life dreams, every part of Headspace has a symbolic meaning. And if it was just a fantasy world, locations and characters would be more generalized. However, all that being said, I have reason to believe Headspace Disorder has fictional traits that do not exist in real life. Those being:
Dream Stability
Dreams in real-life are very limited in scope and spatial awareness, and more importantly, remembrance is extremely limited. Dreams are not really like real places with clearly defined parameters and object permanence. In fact, most sleepers forget their dreams immediately. Headspace is nothing like this at all. Sunny is capable of maintaining an entire island, and remembering every chest he’s opened. Mr Outback even mentions this. Noting that Sunny has an unusually large world and a big imagination.
Tumblr media
However, Sunny’s cognitive skill alone is not enough to change the nature of dreaming itself. Even if it was only a few areas, the level of stability and permanence of the Headspace dream is atypical of real-life dreams and therefore must have some fictional feature. Though it is important to note OMOCAT stated in an interview that only people with “big imaginations” are capable of having White Spaces. (We will be returning to that interview later) So having those skills make having the disease possible in for the “dreamer” but are not enough to make it possible in real-life.
Inter-Dream Communication
On the topic of Mr. Outback, he does indicate that Headspace is a shared phenomenon, and more importantly exhibits a self-awareness of his own place in these shared dreams. This is the main evidence people give for the alternate universe theory. After all, if Outback has a life outside of Sunny’s Headspace he must be an autonomous individual separate from him to some capacity. Outback goes further to even say that Headspace has existed since the beginning of time and even says he’s 33000 years old. An age that feels so oddly specific. Why not say he’s 1,000,000 years? or a billion? Why that age specifically? Outback’s age is roughly the same age as the Venuses of Willendorf, the oldest surviving pieces of human representational art. The oldest of which being only 4000 years off Outback’s stated age.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This means Headspace has been around for as long as Humans have been capable of creating representational art pieces/ stories.
Headspace has existed for a long time. And its a place people “visit”. But the question is, if multiple people can visit this place, does this imply that there can be cross communication between dreamers?
Yes. I think there is some evidence for this in Black Space, from the Stranger’s dialogue.
Tumblr media
The Stranger in this conversation speaks with knowledge that only Basil himself would be privy to even saying “let my words reach you one last time” Implying this isn’t just some Headspace creature like the rest. It’s Basil. It’s the real basil speaking to Sunny through dreams.
Seriously just read these statements:
Tumblr media
How does Sunny’s mind know Basil waited for him at all? How does it know Basil has things he wants to say to him?
Add the weird Mr. Outback stuff. Add the strange properties that are impossible in real-life dreams. Add OMOCATs comments, its all paints the picture that Headspace is not some run of the mill dream.
But is it really another world? Is it a dream or not?
Part 2: Headspace is likely not a alternate universe.
All of this seems incredibly magical. And by real-life standards it would be, but REAL WORLD is not the real world.
Tumblr media
We already know the movie and videogame characters of real life don’t exist in Faraway Town or vice versa. Their world is like our world but slightly different. The biggest difference of all being Headspace. But what do we know about it for sure? Without further ado, lets see what OMOCAT has to say. Look at how they respond when asked about Basil’s White Space.
Notice how OMOCAT in this interview uses psychologically driven language like “mind” and “memory”
Tumblr media
u/xDal-Lio -  OMOCAT interview from Cydonia streaming translated in english
They even talk about it from “personal experience”, if that doesn’t ground it in reality, what will?
At this point I’d like to add that I use the term “Headspace” rather liberally,  White Space is the foundation of Headspace, the latter cannot exist within an individual without the former. Think of White Space as the canvas and Headspace as the drawing. The OMOCAT states outright that “White Space is based on the ability of some people to completely isolate their minds when something traumatic happens”. This has lead many people to suspect that Headspace/White Space are not an alternate world but rather a symptom of Dissociation. Darly Talks has already done a full video on the topic and I would encourage everyone to watch it.
Tumblr media
This theory of White Space being connected to Dissociation is almost confirmed. Based on OMOCAT’s interview above and some hints in the game (like Humphrey soundtrack H2O HLC being a nod to Dissociation) I think this should just be accepted as the foundational truth. However, Dissociation doesn’t explain everything; people in real-life experiencing dissociation don’t get to visit Headspace headspace overnight. The closest real life equivalent to Headspace would probably be “Lucid Dreaming” a phenomenon where a sleeper is able to control their own dream.
Tumblr media
But Lucid Dreaming has no attachment to dissociation, but like Headspace is more adaptable to certain individuals rather than others. As stated in the interview above, some people can’t make a White Space. Perhaps at this point it would be premiant to build a profile of who is more likely to be “able to do it” in OMOCAT’s words. Based on what we can guess its probably:
Sunny, Basil and Hero
Tumblr media
OMOCAT doesn’t outright state whether Basil has a White Space, but as stated before, Basil communicates to Sunny in his dream through Black Space, so I would conclude it more likely than not that he has one since his mind is stated to be the very source of Something’s existence. Hero on the other hand is a more dicey proposition, we know he was locked away in his room for almost a year based on Kel’s account. Something also of note is how Hero is the only Headspace party member to have a Black and White afraid emotion. He used to have it be purple in the 2018 demo, but they went out of their way to make sure it was black and white for the final release of the game.
Tumblr media
The implication here, at the very least, is that Sunny understands that Hero has been effected by Mari’s death in a way close to his own. It also explains why he’s also the only character to get his own room in “The Docks” the deepest area of Black Space. (read my post explaining all the areas of Black Space for more info) But overall, the information we’ve been given is not enough to confirm where Hero had his own White Space. Its a coin flip. 50/50 whether he had one. But lets assume he’s more likely to have it than the others, this creates a profile of intelligence and creative individuals being the deciding factors of who gets a Headspace or not.
Part 3: Sunny’s Choices vs Default Headspace
So what does this all mean? What is Headspace? A Lovecraftian entity? Based on everything addressed thus far, I have reason to believe that Headspace is a medically explainable phenomenon within the OMORI universe, and within said universe the collective unconscious is a very real thing. Meaning Headspace is a shared dream that’s been ongoing since Humanity became sentient. This would explain Outback’s comments about his age and why so many people have access to it. Headspace is not another world, its a shared endless dream. One that will go on until humans die out, or maybe even after. Traumatic events and dissociation allow an individual to escape reality and set up a new Headspace on this collective foundation by hiding away “truths”. Keys appear in these locking them away. Outback talks about it in a way that implies Black Space and the keys are a baked in part of the White Space experience, one a repression of the other.
Tumblr media
Lets consider what Daddy LongLegs has to say.  He says, after White Space, sleepers will then have multiple dreams. Each dream being redefined as a “world” in this context. Like real-life dreams, Sunny did not make these worlds, his mind did, and LongLegs said he “stumbled through them”. All Sunny’s worlds used to be separated but then later where combined, probably by Sunny himself or even Omori. On the topic of Omori, another interesting take away is how LongLegs implies that there was a period of time Sunny was in control of the dream but then allowed Omori to take over later on.
Tumblr media
This means that Omori himself, ironically, is the only part of the Headspace phenomenon that is actually unique to Sunny. Meaning that repressing one’s self is only optional, and entirely of Sunny’s own choosing.
It is unknown whether the inclusion of the “three great creatures” of Headspace was also Sunny’s doing, or if they are a defined part of everyone’s Headspace. The fact that they have defined roles, “Oldest, Wisest, Favorite” implies that it might be a set of characters different to everyone's Headspace, vaguely based on the Freudian Id, Ego and Super Ego. However its also mentioned they existed before Headspace, implying that they are imaginary friends that predated the creation of White Space and thus, might just be unique to Sunny, calling upon them to help him set up Headspace, giving them titles he just made up. But again, its uncertain. Since there is no evidence to Sunny having these imaginary friends refenced in Real World, not even mentioned in passing. So all of it is unclear. I could discuss the roles each member actually played in Sunny’s Headspace, but that is not relevant to the broader discussion here.
CONCLUSION
Headspace is a shared dream of humanity only accessible by imaginative individuals through dissociated dreaming. Every “Dreamer” starts with a White Space and Black Space and from there can explore other dreams all built on the bedrock of the shared dream, but the actual nature of the dream itself is built unconsciously by the mind and is different for every person. Older “Headspace creatures” or dream characters can move between individuals Headspaces at will, and even dreamers may do so to a certain extent. Optionally, Dreamers may choose to repress themselves and forget themselves entirely.

I hate people portraying Omori as evil or whatever. He's Sunny's Depression and desire for life to be back to normal.
I think Omori seals away his Knowledge in order to keep Sunny safe, and be able to enjoy his time with his friends. If he Learns The Truth, he can regain his immense power (control of the Red Hands), but he can no longer truly have fun with his friends.
Yes he's very cruel to Sunny and a lot of his Skills are kinda cruel too (Mock, Exploit Emotions, Trip, etc) but you need to remember how Depression is. Omori IS (internalized) hatred, but he's not a fundamentally hateful person (some people say he hates Basil, but if he did, why save him? Why not cast him away like Abbi?). He helps the denizens of Headspace, yes to distract Sunny, but that didn't have to be how.
On the Sunny Route, Sunny and Omori FIGHT FOR THEIR LIVES. If Sunny wins, Omori dies. Does he not have the right to want to live? If Omori wins.... Oyasumi. Because he thinks they're too far gone to be saved. (We see Headspace's sky at times so maybe this is Omori attempting to return to Headspace without a way to be forced to leave)
Omori is a person. I'm personally a fan of the idea that Headspace exists as a Realm that Sunny can control and shaped, but didn't create. (Mr Outback implies this) and that Sunny can continue to visit after the end of the game. I like to imagine that he recreates Omori as a different person from himself. Someone he loves dearly and wants to protect, a younger brother of his own.
I just love Omori and I like to imagine him loving Sunny and thinking what he is doing is helping.
He's a coping mechanism that isn't working very well, not an evil entity.

Omori: Lost in Headspace and Time AU
In this Omori AU, everything that happens in canon is the same, but instead of being Sunny's personal fantasy, Headspace is actually a separate universe, reality, plane of existence that Sunny, his friends, and perhaps even other people, have been visiting in their dreams for years. Basically, outside of Mari, all the Headspace versions of characters are actually just the avatars they use while dreaming and accessing Headspace. Headspace is also a more overtly supernatural, dangerous, and eldritch place that has existed for nigh on millennium, and has been accessed by many people centuries before Sunny and friends were even born.
Headspace is a realm or separate reality shaped by the minds of all the dreamers who have ever visited it, so there’s more inhabitants, places, and creatures/nightmares then in the game itself because of there being multiple dreamers. Going off of "my thoughts will follow you into your dreams," I propose that the spirits of the dead can also enter and interact with Headspace, although in a very limited way. There would also be many more forgotten places like the lost library, places shaped by long dead dreamers where records, logs, and echoes of their thoughts, memories, and feelings can still be found. Places like Deep Well would also be extremely dangerous, as the memory loss would also affect your real self as well as your Headspace avatar.
When visiting Headspace, Dreamers use an avatar that is based on both their personalities and how they subconsciously desire to be seen by others. Working in the EXP and leveling system in the game here too, Avatars get stronger the more enemies they defeat and skills they learn. Although very uncommon, and mostly occurring in people with more expansive imaginations, If the avatar becomes too much of an independent being with it's own thoughts, feelings, and personality, then a mental disconnect between the avatar and Dreamer occurs, resulting in the avatar becoming an entity completely separate from the Dreamer, leaving the Dreamer as just themselves in Headspace.
When first arriving in Headspace, Dreamers enter White Space, although it might not be white or as empty as the one seen in-game, again it's different for each dreamer and becomes whatever is the most soothing/calming for them. White Space is the entrance and exit for Headspace, that also functions as a safe area that dreamers can return to if they focus hard enough. It can be corrupted by Black Space/Something if a Dreamer isn't careful, so one must always be vigilant in taking care of their White Space.
Whether or not the inhabitants of Headspace would be aware of the power that Dreamers have and would treat them like gods walking amongst them is a bit more ambiguous though. I think some like Mr. Outback are aware of dreamers and their power to shape Headspace, but most would be unaware of ignorant of it. Guardians would know immediately, as they have a symbiotic connection with dreamers to begin with.
Guardians are beings bestowed with great power by dreamers and have the duty of maintaining, guarding, and healing Headspace from the corruption of Blackspace and Something. They usually lord over one area, and serve as it's de facto ruler. If they aren't currently busy they spend their time searching for and crushing any encroaching bit of Blackspace, or Headspace denizens corrupted by Something. They basically carry out the duty of protecting dreamers, Headspace, and it's inhabitants in any way possible, even if that means more drastic and immoral methods have to be taken. The one thing they fear is becoming corrupted themselves, as they can and will cause great destruction if they themselves fall.
Blackspace isn't just a threat to Dreamers, it's a threat to Headspace and reality itself. Blackspace is everything Headspace isn't, a realm molded by nightmares, mental instability/delusion, guilt and trauma. Blackspace is like a living entity, always trying to grow, consume, and take over more of Headspace and the Dreamers. For this purpose it uses it's avatar, Something, and those that it enthralls. It can corrupt and warp the land, creatures, guardians, and dreamers to become mindless thralls to serve it's will. Something would also be a parasitic entity that feeds off the misery, suffering, fear, and guilt of entities. It would mold and morph itself to become whatever they fear/regret the most, mentally torturing them until the become so weak and drained that they can be fully taken over. With the ultimate goal of Blackspace being to consume and control both Headspace and the real world, the latter it achieves through enthralled dreamers.
Feel free to use this idea for your own projects, I just wanted to get this thought that I’ve been having since I played Omori out there. I might periodically come back and edit/change this from time to time.

The difference between the truth knowing npcs of Undertale/deltarune and omori is that the truth in Undertale/deltarune is about a player controlling the main character but the truth in omori is about trauma that's been hidden by the main character and also all the undertale/deltarune characters are colorful but all the omori ones are either one color or black

hey how about that silly cowboy character in Omori (MR. OUTBACK) who not only knows all about Sunny's headspace but also says that 'it looks different to everybody' implying everybody has one (or shares the same one) and also says that he's 'give or take' 33.000 years old, which is also, 'give or take', around the time when the first evidences of prehistoric art are found, signalling the unarguable apparition of abstract thought and imagination in Homo sapiens and thus modern behavior, according to many anthropologists?
ain't that crazy buckaroo

you mentioned a while ago that you had ideas for what the other kids' Headspaces could be like, would you mind sharing details? sorry if it's a lot, i just think Headspace content is super interesting
Fam, you just asked me a question with a 50 page answer.
What I can say, other ppl having Headspaces is 100% canon.
Tumblr media
Mr. Outback says in game that Headspace is not a unique experience to Sunny. That other people can have Headspace, and its strange for Sunny to have a really big, cute one. Attributing it to his "big imagination". So its 100% possible that the other kids might have a Headspace, most likely Hero for a year.
One of the kids that's interested me is Kel.
I think Kel's world might be some variant of a medieval fantasy, where at the center of this world is the Pillow Fort.
Tumblr media
But the Kingdom has been thrown into dark times at the death of Princess Mari and disappearance of Prince Sunny who has been locked away in a tower.
The Hero who usually saves the day is turned to stone.
Thus his latchkey thief of a little brother Kel has to step up in his place to unparalyze his brother and save everyone.
I've even gone as far as making concepts for his own Great Creatures. These imaginary friends operate on a similar, parallel system to Headspace and everyone has an Oldest, Wisest and Favorite. Kels would be:
Tumblr media
King Hooper is the Wise Old King
Hooper is a powerful wizard that rules the realm of Headspace with the Basketball knights, on the claim that he's been around the longest. He rules from his court in the Pillow Fort. He's physically frail but has limitless stamina to make up for it.
The King likes Kel, but has little faith in him, and thinks Kel should just wait for the Hero to return and solve everyone's problems. He thinks anything Kel does would just make things worse, so he cooks up smaller quests as distractions for Kel to do in the meantime, to prepare for the Hero's return.
He is based on Kel's basketball hoop.
Tumblr media
Sly Orange Fox is the Sage
The Fox is trying to guide Kel away from his distractions and back to confronting his problems. He is only seen in glimpses, similar to SOMTHING in the real game.
Kel may love dogs, but this Fox was introduced to him by Prince Sunny, who is actually more of a cat person.
She is based on Kel's shirt in game.
Tumblr media
Hector is the Mentor
Hector is a powerful martial artist who trains Kel from his dojo hideout and aids him in his quests. He is identical to Pluto, but is never referred to as such in Kel's dream world.
Kel looks up to Hector like a big brother.
He is based on Kel's digital pet rock.
