Hear me out
I'm musing here but I had epiphany of sorts. We all know that scientists are working on the theory of multiverses and alternate realities and the possibilities of them being a thing are quite high.
With that being said, this thought came into my head...what if the reason why we crush on certain celebs, is because in an alternate reality/universe, we're married to them somehow?
Like think about it, your crush, in an alternate realm could be the local refuse collector and you're someone on their route. You could be a successful business person or you could be someone on a similar wage to them. You lock eyes OVER A BIN/TRASH CAN! They could be handing it back or taking it to the truck and you make contact over that damn Bin/Trash can!
You absolutely do not care though because you find them stunning, beautiful even and you stumble over your words. Instead of saying thank you, you say something dumb like "I like your gloves!" and they find it cute and giggle. That giggle could be the thing that makes your day in this realm and so every week you make an effort to stand outside and wait for them, to greet them, make them laugh and fall hopelessly in love WITH THE BLOODY RUBBISH/TRASH/BIN PERSON!
Maybe you leave them a note asking them on a date and they empty the Bin/Trash can and leave their reply on a note under the lid and when you see it, your heart goes stupid like and you get giddy when the reply is yes!
Then it get's serious, you have a freaking anniversary which you celebrate by taking that damn Bin/trash can out together! HOLDING FREAKING HANDS! YOU DO THIS EVERY YEAR! YOU EVEN HAVE IT INVOLVED IN THE WEDDING CEREMONY AND THE CHRISTENING OF YOUR KIDS!
FUCK!
Anyway here is my Bin person.

Interesting to learn that minor Justice League members are going to be in this, but I hope they don’t OVERSHADOW the movie.
Let Superman star SUPERMAN. I’m fine with these characters playing a minor role, maybe even helping Superman fight the big bad, but don’t let the star do most of the heavy lifting.

Okay, now that I've seen the set pics of Hawkgirl and Guy Gardner, confirming that the Justice League is already formed and under Max Lord's funding (and they're even branded with JL on all their uniforms), I think I am getting a sense of what the story might look like for Superman: Legacy.
We come in on Superman probably already having established himself in Metropolis as a hero for - let's say a year. He's helping people, saving lives, but also probably feeling quite alone, as both Superman and Clark Kent since he believes he needs to keep people at a distance to ensure they remain safe.
During this time we also have two concurrent storylines that have been building since Superman hit the scene:
- the military views Superman as a weapon and want to control him or remove him from play
- the Justice League is a group that wants to add Superman to its roster to boost credibility and popularity (seeing as the roster is full of low-tier name recognition superheroes)
I also think Clark's feeling of 'alienation' will come to a head here, and perhaps he activates something that acts as a beacon for otherworldly creatures to come take him (a la MAWS s2)
I think this will come to a head with the creation of the government's 'answer' to Superman, Ulysses/Ultraman created in a lab overseen by... Lex Luthor. The Engineer acts as the clone's handler.
The Justice League is in town because they are trying, once again, to convince Superman to join them - to be a hero full-time. Telling him he doesn't need a secret identity because he's Superman. He keeps turning them down because he doesn't want to be controlled by Max Lord's PR machine.
So there will be a fight between Superman and Ulysses/Ultraman, and maybe the JL try to engage. Maybe they get beaten or maybe they get told to stand down by Maxwell Lord and they regretfully follow orders. Leaving Superman to fight on his own against the weight of the military set against him until he realizes the damage being done to Metropolis and surrenders. He's lead away just as the third threat arrives.
The third threat to this story is... Brainiac. Who arrives probably at the point in the story after Superman has been arrested.
What I think may happen is the government sends Ulysses/Ultraman and his team to handle the threat, only for them to be soundly beaten, with U either being corrupted in a Cyborg-Superman, Bizzaro, or just killed, and Engineer being affected by Brainiac tech (to begin her transformation into part machine as well).
The government will either realize Superman needs to be released to face this threat, or he will escape to save the day.
Meanwhile, as Brainiac invades Metropolis, Max Lord tells his Justice League to not engage because of a) PR reasons - Superman is now a liability and if they're seen helping him it could affect their popularity or b) he doesn't think they are capable of handling a 'real' crisis, and because of this the team ignores him and follows Superman into battle.
And I think we see the town all fighting back and lending a hand and there will be a point where Superman looks around at his home, seeing all the people he inspired, and realize that this is his legacy. That his helping other people inspires others to do the same and his legacy isn't to be the Last Son of Krypton but is instead Earth's greatest hero and he gets his second wind to save the day and send Brainiac away.
And after the dust clears Superman learns he isn't the last of Krypton. Theres Krypto. There's Kara. And together they are his family.
And so is the staff at Daily Planet, who all race to greet Clark after being scared he perished during the attack.
And so are the Justice League, who agree to part as allies as they work on becoming an actual team and not a wing of Lord Enterprises. Superman tells them maybe one day he'll be a member, and Mister Terrific tells Superman he'd like that.

Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho AND Nathan FILLION as Guy Gardner!?!?!?!? Those two PLUS Hawkgirl and Mr. Terrific in a Superman movie that’s coming out in just two years????!?!
James Gunn going out of his way to, once again, fill a roster with a diverse cast of lesser-known heroes brings me so much joy omg

What the new "Heroes" of Superman Legacy can tell us about the DCU
Tumblr media
To somehow everyone's surprise, it seems DC has jumped the Gunn. (See what I did there?)
While many were convinced the antagonists of the 2025's Superman Legacy would be The Authority, The Elite, or even a mixture of the two, it appears for now it may be a prototype version of the Justice League.
James Gunn has casted three JLA members including Isabela Mercad as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, and Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern AKA Guy Gardner.
While the Authority, the Elite, or even another major Superman villain can play a part, I believe the spot of heroes who "do what they have to" may have been taken.
Tumblr media
While this is a shocking turn of events, and one that may be regretful as over world building was the death of the DCEU, I do think these castings and choice of characters tells a good deal about Gunns priorities.
You see, unlike Black Adam, which brought together a team Justice Society members who it seemed Warner Bros said The Rock could have, this team seems purposeful.
So let's go through the characters and see their potential for the DCU:
Starting with the one I'm most excited for:
Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl
Tumblr media
You thought I was gonna say Green Lantern, didn't you?
Isabela Merced is a fairly young actress, known for roles like Juliet in Hulu's Rosalind, The Widow Queen in Maya and the Queen, and most famously....
Tumblr media
Dora Dora Dora the Explorer.
Merced is a bright young talent, who has been consistently working since 2014 and landed decent roles in big projects. Whether she continues on to be a great character actress or a leading actor, adding Merced in the DCU early almost guarantees having a star down the line.
But even more importantly than any of that, Hawkgirl is a great choice to begin a DCU.
Tumblr media
Like Clark, she is an alien, a young hero, and a brawler. The two can find common footing and begin a very heartfelt friendship that can last throughout the DCU.
Unlike her counterpart Hawkman who isn't really any interesting, Hawkgirl was a founding member of the team for many peoples introduction to DC, The Justice League and Justice League Unlimited cartoons.
More than that, her betrayal for her home race of Thanagarians is one of the most iconic parts of the show.
If that is part of the larger narrative Gunn is trying to tell, that tells me Gunn is honoring what fans actually love.
Plus having a Peruvian woman play Hawkgirl just makes my Latinx/Hispanic heart happy.
Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific
Tumblr media
I'm glad Darwin is getting another shot at this superhero thing.
Known for his roles in X-Men First Class, Twilight, The Blacklist, and The Harder They Fall, Edi Gathegi has also had a rather impressive career.
I like this trend Gunn has currently with Gathegi, Merced and Corenswet of actors you may recognize but not know.
What's more interesting than the cast is the character.
Mister Terrific is considered the third smartest person in the DC Universe. While he is known to use T-Spheres as a weapon, he also is an extremely skilled hand to hand combatant, a Renaissance man if you will.
Tumblr media
To put him in perspective, he often has a friendly rivalry with Batman.
Terrific is a fan favorite character, and one we haven't seen before in film. He can bring a dynamic fighting style, and a perspective of advanced intellect that can challenge Clark. Gunn clearly wants to bring in the characters people love, in a way they don't expect.
Which leads me to:
Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern
Tumblr media
Just not the one you're thinking.
I could go into Fillion's history, but you know him. Castle. Firefly. The Rookie. He's an icon.
While he was famously fan casted and even voiced Green Lantern Hal Jordan in several pieces of animated media, Nathan Fillion is now the DCU's Guy Gardner.
Tumblr media
Which is, bizarre.
While Fillion is more than a capable enough actor, and has the comedic timing to play the role, I never would've expected a Green Lantern in the first Superman movie, let alone THIS one.
For those not in the know, Guy Gardner is the asshole Green Lantern. He was a football star who suffered a career ending injury in college, and kind of lives in his glory days. He's a more aggressive, often more obnoxious Lantern. Definitely the least heroic of the bunch.
Tumblr media
Introducing Guy as the first Green Lantern, and likely leader of the JL that lost their way, makes a lot of sense. It could tempt Clark to be more like Guy, and even better, remind Guy what it means to be a hero.
In any case, character shows me Gunn is not following a specific playbook. There is no order to which Lantern comes first, nor Flash, nor any character.
Which is kind of exciting.
James Gunn has hit us with a huge curveball, basically telling us to expect the unexpected.
Which to me is a breath of fresh air.
Thank you for reading! If you'd like to support me you can follow me on my socials here!

The more cast members get announced for Superman Legacy the more I do not care to see it. I went from really hyped for this Superman reboot to "why the fuck are they cramming in every C-List superhero into a fucking Superman movie. Just say who Superman is and who the villain is. That's all we need"
Except, nah. As far as we know, this movie doesn't even have an antagonist. But it does have Metamorpho and Mr Terrific! Finally, no one's favorite superheroes come to the big screen... In a Superman movie.
Whatever, at least My Adventures with Superman is peak fiction atm.
