Day 3 for the Eight Nights of Mulder: celebration and my prompt for the 24 Days of X-Mas Files Challenge: family Christmas with separate beds

Summary: They're spending Christmas at Mrs. Scully's house and Mulder is in for a surprise. (AU, fluffy fluff, William is there; wc: 715)

She should pinch herself, just to make sure she isn't dreaming. In many ways, this Christmas feels like a fantasy. One she had many, many years ago. But it's real, all of it.

Over there, surrounded by a few of her mother's neighbors, stands Mulder. He's grinning from ear to ear, quickly becoming the star of the party. At least as long as their son is napping.

William is without a doubt the not-so-secret superstar of this holiday get-together. With his dimples and his charming smile, he wraps everyone around his little finger. Including her grinchy brother, who tried his damnest not to be swayed. He lasted all of five seconds before he, too, oohed and awwed at his nephew.

"I saw you staring at me." Mulder's voice is a soft murmur as he puts his arms around her, holding her close. She must have been so lost in thought that she didn't even notice him walk over to her. "Do I have something on my face?" He nuzzles her neck, making her giggle.

"You do," she says, swatting at his hand. They may have been a couple for a while, but here, in front of everyone and her family, their public display of affection is new and she doesn't yet know how she feels about it. "You're grinning."

"I'm happy," he says simply. "Your mother throws great parties."

"She invited you every year," Scully reminds him. The first few times she asked him she wondered whether it was because of Christmas. But he never celebrated Hanukkah either. A fact they're planning to change next year so that William can learn about the festival, too.

"I'm a late bloomer." His lips graze the shell of her ear and she shivers. "Do you think anyone would notice if we snuck away?"

"They might." Though she's not sure she cares. "William will wake up soon, though."

"I can be patient," he promises, kissing her cheek. "We have all night."

"If you're prepared to sneak around." Mulder's confused pout makes her smile. She hasn't had time to speak to him about the sleeping arrangements yet. And he's not going to like what she has to say.

"My mom decided to put us in separate bedrooms." Mulder stares at her as if expecting her to admit she's making a joke. "She said, and I quote, she can't let us share a bedroom in good consciousness." Her mother loves Mulder, and she dotes on her youngest grandchild, but she's a woman with principles. One of which is no shared rooms and beds when unmarried.

"Is it because of what I said earlier?" When her mother and Father McCue talked about baptizing William, Scully intervened, saying they weren't sure yet what to do, with Mulder being half Jewish. And his skepticism towards organized religion, but she kept that tidbit to herself. Both her mother and Father McCue had looked surprised and then Mulder decided to call William a religious remix, which caused a few more shocked gasps from both of them.

"Surprisingly not," Scully says. "It's because we're not married."

"Well, I'm sure we can find someone here to change that. We have a priest, a rabbi, and a pastor. This could also be the beginning of a bad joke. This is a joke, right?" Scully shakes her head, and Mulder pouts fully.

"She knows we live together," Mulder says and she nods. "We have a child together." She nods again. "She knows that we- you know."

"Not in her house." He sighs loudly.

"What if I promise her to marry you as soon as possible? I'm gonna ask. You know what? I'm gonna use Willam to argue. He's my secret weapon." He kisses her mouth, his grin returning. He runs off like she's used to, but for once, she doesn't mind one bit.

She just watches as members of her family pat Mulder's back, or engage him in short conversations. Everyone loves him. And he basks in the attention. She knows one Christmas won't erase the years he suffered, where he was alone - sometimes by choice. But it's a beginning.

She knows that her mother won't change her mind about the sleeping arrangements, but she also knows that no matter what, they will find a way to be together tonight.

12.Talk about a new friend you made this year

Two long-time mutuals were new friends this year! I made fanart of @razrogue's oc in february (asked permission first) and that kicked off some conversations, and I invited @boghermit to a digital dnd game that was supposed to be a "one shot" that I thought would run 3 sessions in april but we're on like session 10+.

Idk that I have any completely new friends. Have some mutuals I've been talking with more lately, and perhaps next year we'll be no-filter enough to be friends, lmao.

22.Favorite place you visited this year?

I went to my late grandparents' mother's cottage twice this summer. It's a little over two hours up the river. I made a goo/gle d/oc of some photos from one of the visits that mutuals could ask to see if you like. I shared it with some of you already.

25.Did you create any characters (in games, art, or writing) this year? Describe one

Several. And more, counting the dnd npc's I made up in role as DM. I'll restrict myself to three per media.

In world of warcraft I created and max-levelled more than my usual amount of pc's / oc's during the mists of pandaria remix event. Two of my favorites were a couple of nightborne elves, a rogue named Draughr (I decided this is his code name), and a warlock named Akumyssra. They're divorced with three kids. They were together all during the time Suramar was bubbled and sequestered from the rest of the world, and resentful of one another. I hadn't decided between them which was the parent who nearly sold a child to servitude because of the mana sickness / addiction / arcwine situation, but it was what was irreparable in the circumstances. Their children don't know and it is this unknowing which would allow them to fix things between them in the future Maybe. I also enjoyed crack shipping Draughr and Mudmug, which would further splinter his relationship with Akumyssra either because he was the one who fucked up fatherhood and is now having at least casual relationships or because she is the one who fucked up motherhood and not only are the children technically in the custody of an elf whose name they might not know for years, but he is also having such a good / easy time of it while she can't do anything but suffer for the sake of her magic.

I also started thinking of a daughter for my oc Borgakh and Lor'themar Theron. I was caught up in the tragedy of their romance for ages - and enjoying it - until they gave him a canon wife in Thalyssra. So now, instead, their relationship suffered after the battle for lordaeron, started getting better during battle for azeroth, Borgakh discovered she was pregnant just barely before going through with the ritual to go to Shadowlands, and I hate that they get married around the same time as Lor'themar's canon marriage, I wish it could happen at another time, but it's fine, whatever, and now they have this two year old daughter around the start of the war within.

I spliced some orc, elf and dracthyr sprites together to come up with a what-if concept to help me picture her as a babe and child.

I hadn't settled on a name. Here's the short list: Rok'aria (aria pronounced like the musical movement), Anravenna, Kel'diel, Kel'ariah (ariah pronounced like Karliah), Marzul, Arzula.

I came up with my dungeon meshi oc this year. Aelfwin.

Their backstory is up in the air because I don't know how dungeons work or how I'll feel about the story once I've finished the anime / once I crack and read the manga.

At this time, my two floating story ideas for them are: 1) post-canon in a large monstrous form, Alfie tunnels into the eponymous dungeon, from a different dungeon. 2) au where Alfie joins the party around the same time as Senshi.

A slightly belated entry for qocc oc challenge day 3 - alternate universe remix. This is an (urban) fantasy AU of my Gemma Laura McKinney AU.

Summer, 2018 - Gemma McKinney shows up in the Valley, hiding secrets and clearly on a mission, a blonde-haired, blue-eyed woman displaying the kind of magic that, Johnny knows, only runs through his mother's side of the family (though it skipped him and Robby), and though he'd like to say she's not his daughter, because god knows he doesn't need to have failed another child, he also remembers the eighties and nineties were a wild time so he can't say for certain. But Gemma isn't giving any answers - mainly because there's a threat coming that eclipses any karate war, and she figures that whatever the truth is (because she barely remembers the people who raised her so even she can't say for sure either way) it'll just have to wait. They have the Valley - and quite possibly the world - to save.

Emma helps Phoenix get all the books and stuff he needs to study. Maya and Pearl helps convince Harvard to accept Phoenix.

The Harvard Variations: Phoenix finds what class Edgeworth is in

Blood in the water: Professor fey explains how she would have 3 new interns from that class. Mia asks Phoenix to summarize the SL-9 case Phoenix cannot because he didn’t read it. Franziska suggests that she kicks Phoenix out of her class. Phoenix leaves afterwards from embarrassment.

Serious (reprise): Edgeworth and Phoenix talk about how they were friends in elementary school. Phoenix asks him why he left, Edgeworth just walks away

Chip on my shoulder: Phoenix explains to Mia how he followed Edgeworth to Harvard and how Edgeworth refuses to talk to him. Mia tells Phoenix about her childhood and why she is so determined. She tells him he needs to actually focus and study. Mia helps throw out some stuff he doesn’t need and study. As thanksgiving and Christmas pass they still are working together. Edgeworth asks Phoenix if he’s seen Franziska and Phoenix has a bi panic. Mia realizes that the reason he isn’t focusing is because of Edgeworth. During a lecture Phoenix proves Edgeworth’s point wrong and won a mock trial.

So much better: Phoenix changed his entire career for Edgeworth but it’s starting it think it might be a bad idea. But it turns out Mia picked Franziska, Edgeworth and Phoenix for her 3 interns and He realizes that he’s actually good at law and it’s successful with it.

Whipped into shape: Franziska teaches Phoenix how to “whip” your client/witness “into shape”. While also Mia tells the 3 of them that they need to trust their client but the odds are very stacked against them.

Take it like a man: Maya and Franziska get Phoenix ready for his first trail/give him a glow up to win over Edgeworth

Bend and snap: Maya, Pearl and Ema try and teach Phoenix how to flirt but fail miserably

There! Right There!: Before the trial starts Phoenix is running late and Maya and Gumshoe debate if Edgeworth is gay or not and the argument ends up involving the whole court room. ⁃In 2016, LUMI nearly disbanded following the Weakend era due to extremely low funds, poor sales, and being denied appearances on various music and reality shows. These obstacles pushed the group to the brink, marking one of the darkest periods in LUMI’s history.
