YOU SHIVER WALKING through the cold yet vibrant streets of times square, skin covered in goosebumps as you brave the unfamiliar weather.

"y/n, please, it is not that cold," gabbie laughs, observing your shaking figure.

"i know," you shrug, "i'm actually hot."

"girl, you don't have to lie, it's okay," jada adds, "you just have to remember to bring your jacket next time."

"i swear i hate you guys," you say, shaking your head as you continue to subtly rub your arms in an attempt to warm up your body.

the night progresses, and you are just getting colder and colder. as a girl from the west coast, you were definitely not used to this type of cold. and even worse, you hated being an inconvenience, which is why you kept denying your friends' offers to give you their jackets.

you also hated being wrong. you wouldn't even buy a jacket for yourself when you would stroll through shops - you were stubborn if anything.

the one person who persisted despite your dismissive behavior was kate. your best friend and also the girl you were in love with.

you'd slowly started to fall for the girl throughout your years at iowa. to you, she was your other half on and off the court. but you had no idea if she felt the same way.

she looked down at you with a certain look in her eyes, one that only happened to shine through when she talked to you.

the rest of your group had walked ahead, not noticing your stoppage, "kate, we're gonna lose them, let's go."

"y/n, i will tie you down if that's what it takes for you to put this on," she states with a serious face.

"kinky," you smirk playfully, trying to change the topic once again.

"okay fine!" you sigh, "i'll put it on."

"finally," she breathes out, "thank you."

she helps you slip into the large jacket, the sleeves a little too long for your arms considering the extra height kate has over you.

"why are you thanking me? i should be thanking you," you laugh.

"because," the blonde starts as you resume your path behind the rest of the girls, "i hated seeing you uncomfortable. plus i get to see you in my clothes," she mumbles the last part, but it doesn't go unnoticed by you.

"well, aren't you just the sweetest?" you smile, only half joking. kate was quite literally the definition of a sweetheart.

you often make the joke that if you were to look up the word "sweet" in the dictionary, it would just say "kate martin" plain and simple.

you jog ahead to walk with hannah and gabbie, leaving the blonde to watch you longingly.

little did either of you know that your fellow teammate, kylie, had been vlogging the past few minutes and had managed to catch your interaction with kate in the background.
