the questionnaire —
WHAT IS SOMETHING YOUR CHARACTER LIKES ABOUT NEW GOTHAM? SOMETHING THEY DISLIKE? DO THEY MISS THE WAY THINGS WERE - OR DO THE LIKE HOW THE WORLD IS NOW?
there’s some annoyance in the layout to the city changing, but jason is used to being forced to adjust. he does like that there’s still a familiarity to everything, the atmosphere is similar to what home was like before the change. what jason really dislikes is how much tedious work there is to do with making sure these new criminals recognize the consequences if they deal drugs to children or harm them in anyway. he may not be a villain anymore, but jason does kill still. he isn’t afraid to torture so traditionally those who are smart try to obey the one rule. no one wants to be on his bad side. he was born in gotham of course, a street rat before being adopted by bruce. jason doesn’t think that it’s weird being surrounded by the different people — some of his best friends had superpowers.
WHERE WAS YOUR CHARACTER WHEN EVERYTHING CHANGED? ARE THEY SUSPICIOUS OF EVERYONE OR ARE THEY TRYING TO REMAIN UNDER THE RADAR? HAVE THEY REUNITED WITH THEIR FRIENDS OR ARE THEY LOST?
jason was probably taking darcy for a walk at the time of the change happening. he’s normally suspicious of anyone’s intentions when meeting new people. he knows what it’s like to be on the receiving end of those judgmental looks since he grew up in the streets before being adopted into a rich family. only now people look at him funny for having a white streak in his hair. he’s better at socializing now that he’s older, but still hates galas with a passion though.
he’s currently living out of an abandoned building. it doesn’t have working heat, but it has a bed which is more than enough. jason doesn’t want his family to be worrying about him if he can help it, but doesn’t know what to expect if they find out about his living situation. there’s more important situations to worry about, but jason continues to go on patrol despite the neighborhood being different.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION —
ANYTHING YOU WANT US TO KNOW? ANY HEADCANONS?
i. you wouldn’t expect it, but jason is theater kid. he wanted to get involved with the play at school after being enrolled into one of the finest. he decides against trying since he wouldn’t have the time to drama with being robin. you can still catch him singing along to the phantom soundtrack.
ii. jason really loves english literature which is why he has been collecting books for a collection with alfred since they first met.
iii. spent a few months in arkham during his time as villain, but this is before his family knew that he was red hood. he still hasn’t told anyone about his sentence there.
iv. he’s a smoker!

Alright folks, it's time for a good old-fashion MBTI rant, you ready? OKAY HERE WE GO LET'S GET STARTED
So Vox put out a video who knows how long ago about how the MBTI personality test is pretty much inaccurate half the time, the theory formulators (mother Briggs and daughter Briggs Myers expanding on Carl Jung's ideas) had no formal training in psychology or cognitive behavior, the system doesn't really fit everyone, people shouldn't use the system to gage someone's professional success, and the whole thing is totally useless astrology-esque Forer Effect nonsense and should only be used for entertainment purposes.
Where do I even start here.
So first of all, they're right, your Myers Briggs personality type should absolutely not be an indicator of your professional success or leadership skills, nor should it pigeon-hole you into any particular job or role. Companies that use MBTI this way are companies I'd be skeptical of using sound practices in their organization and categorization of employees.
The thing is, there is waaay more to people than their personality type. Trying to fit someone into a "suitable" role based on the way they think, feel, and take in information is ignoring what people actually want to do or enjoy doing, which is significant data when you're trying to get someone to do a job. Just because you might be really really good at crafting/outfit-making because the way you think and interact with your environment + the culmination of your life experiences has given you the tools you need to be good at it DOES NOT mean you want to start up your own crafting business or that you want to go into fashion. It just doesn't. Yes, that's a real life example for an ENTJ in case anyone was wondering, and that also doesn't mean all ENTJs would be good at crafting or fashion design. Crafting and fashion design are activities that can play to an ENTJ's strengths (like Te, Ni, and Se), but you still need skill, experience, tools, knowledge, and interest to do them.
That said, you CAN use someone's Myers Briggs personality type to predict what they might be good at. I was playing Mario Party with a bunch of new friends and I go in knowing that my Te sucks, I have none of it, but I instantly recognized one of my friends was a Te user when we paired up for a Te-oriented mini game I'd never played before. So what did I do? I instructed him do most of the Te work and we totally owned it! Recognizing what cognitive functions people are good at does help predict what kind of tasks someone might be good (or bad) at, which is useful for anything from knowing your own personal strengths/weaknesses to effectively structuring teamwork. Even so, it's really important to consider what tasks people want to do. I know an ENFJ who is really flippin' good at math, but she also hates it. Her propensity for math might not have anything to do with her type, and her hatred for it isn't an inherent ENFJ quality either, so you can't just say "hm, well because you're an ENFJ, you must be good/terrible at math so you should/shouldn't go into a math-oriented field", we can only guess. Trying it out is really where you get to discover it for yourself! And even if you're terrible at math, that doesn't mean you can't get better at it, practice, and go into a field that uses it. You can do whatever you want to do, regardless of your type.
Once more for the people in the back: YOU CAN DO WHATEVER YOU WANT TO DO, REGARDLESS OF YOUR TYPE
Okay so back to why this Vox video pissed me off. First of all, it implicitly discredits the founders, Briggs and her daughter, by stating they had no background in psychology. What's that smell you say? Why I do declare it's the pungent aroma of logical fallacy Appeal to Authority, or at least it's antithesis. What actually makes a scientist a scientist? Someone who performs GOOD SCIENCE. I cannot tell you how many "scientists" there are out there with degrees in their field of specialty who didn't practice good science. Meanwhile, people without degrees (I dunno like pea-counting geneticist Gregor Mendel and legit so many other major contributors to science without degrees in their field of contribution) who have been taught scientific principles and appropriately used them are way more scientifically legitimate to me. One scientific principle is observation, and when it comes to psychology, observation is especially key! Who cares if Briggs and her daughter didn't have the scientific background, you don't need it to be a good scientist and make legitimate observations. On top of that, they came up with a testable system, which even in fields like biology and chemistry can be challenging to develop, but in psychology it is especially not easy. So trying to discredit people’s science and their systems based on professional qualifications? Yeah no, not having it. Let’s keep going with that train of thought for a sec and touch on their feelings about astrology. Now I’ve always called myself a “sucker” for astrology, acknowledging that the descriptors do tend to be both positive and appealingly general enough to ascribe a feeling of accuracy to your specified type that isn’t based on anything real (i.e. this is the Barnum or Forer Effect). But let’s challenge that for a moment, shall we? Surely from a scientific perspective there’s no way to support astrology as being a legitimate system, right? But the answer is a little more nuanced than “astrology is illegitimate”. Astrology doesn’t have any logical basis for the associations of its types with the alignment of the stars when someone was born, but what it does have is twelve distinct and cohesive personality types.  It is not inconceivable that someone out there observed various people over time and generated 12 different personality types based on the month in which someone was born by recognizing patterns in people and then assigning those patterns to individual personalities. I’m not saying these personalities were formed with “good scientific observation,” but the system isn’t as far-fetched as it might otherwise seem. Even if it’s not a good system, it’s still worth considering seriously as a system before brushing it off as total nonsense as many are inclined to do. To do so without investigation would not, in fact, be considered “good science”. So what about the idea that MBTI doesn’t fit everyone? Well, that’s kind of the point of testing the system, isn’t it? Not everyone has to fit the system for the system to be useful, but also I personally have yet to come across someone who doesn’t possess at least one of the suggested eight cognitive functions. Maybe MBTI doesn’t work the way the system currently says it works, which is why we can modify the system if the system doesn’t hold true. Theories are flexible and subject to change! If the system “doesn’t fit,” maybe it’s not a good system or maybe that’s okay and it’s still useful. Myers Briggs has wider applications than pure entertainment, and suggesting otherwise is being narrow-minded to the scope of the system. MBTI gives us a way to talk about human cognitive processes in an accessible way.  Being able to describe some of the reasons why people get along or don’t get along and how you can improve relationships is 200% useful information that we should not just discard as flimsy entertainment.  Even if a system seems ridiculous, take it seriously and then explain your reasons for why it isn’t cohesive. Be better, Vox. Be better.

some tangled au ed headcanons
-ed is...quietly rebellious towards dante. he's not a pushover. but growing up with dante being his only social interaction makes his susceptible to her emotional manipulation. she really shits on his life and it's not as disguised as mother gothel. she gets blunt and outright insults him sometimes.
-and ed is sassy when dante is trying to lower his self confidence (she knows ed cant be scared out of wanting to leave the tower, so telling him how incapable, naive, and foolish he is will do) but that doesnt mean it doesnt still affect him
-so ed is very self defensive and insecure, and he takes it out on others through his short temper. hes happy to be out of the tower, but his mood swings at the beginning have to do with him going back and forth between "this is so fun! hey watch me! look at me do this! i bet i can do that!" and "this is everyone else's fault. the only reason i tripped and fell was because of you, not because i was stupid or anything (god shes right im an idiot i cant handle myself out here what was i thinking). this is all your fault and im not saying that to hide the crushing guilt im feeling of being a horrible son! (someone please ask me if im okay already im dying for some emotional validation but ive never received it in my life ever its probably stupid anyway nevermind forget it its not your business stop being so nosy)"
-through the adventure with ling, ed sees what hes made of. hes brave, adaptable, a quick thinker, clever, and resourceful. and with dante always telling him otherwise and him believing it, this makes the line "you were wrong about me" so much sweeter coming from his mouth at the end
-ed not being cynical? blasphemy. yeah ed is pretty naive. hes short tempered and rude, but not cynical. he voices his worldview pretty often to ling, who challenges it so much: all promises should be kept (ling will betrayed mei and lan fan), everything should be a fair trade (ling tried to dine and dash at the devils nest which is what got them into trouble with the patrons), people are good or bad (ling is both and neither), you get what you deserve (ling is inherently a good person yet had a sucky life, and ed clearly doesnt have a great one either), etc. most of eds worldview is based on inner logic rather than morals, though. ling challenges that logic which drives him crazy, until they rub off on each other: ling realizing that the world may not always be fair but that doesnt mean you dont act fairly, and ed realizing that just because youre fair doesnt mean the world will be (but both become better people in this discovery: the world being unkind doesnt mean you have to be unkind).
-ed's ideal of fairness (cough equivalent exchange) is what makes him naive and it ultimately makes him a great king when it's been balanced out by ling's sense of reality
-ed is extremely empathetic due to his own crippling loneliness and low self worth, and at times it what makes him more like rapunzel (with her enthusiasm for people and getting to know them), matching her in excitement and kindness (then his insecurity kicks in and he has to cover up him losing his cool and showing weakness like that by being aggressive again)
-ed is the one to make any moves on ling. ling gives signals but will always let ed make the first move. and once ed realizes that ling loves him, he goes for it because "oh my god he LIKES me? for my PERSONALITY? someone actually listens to me and values me and makes me feel good about myself holy shit im gonna just kiss him right now on this boat while im high on adrenaline and total awe about the world around me" and ling is all like "dam im so in love with him oop hes kissing me thank GOD." ling kind of mentally plans things with ed (he puts more thought into actions, like what will this touch accomplish? what will this kind of look say? how will i build up to a perfect moment to kiss him? how will this play out for me to ultimately win this awesome guy over) but ed just GOES FOR IT and ling is just like "oh thank god" (ling doesnt really have any major insecurities, but having ed just initiate things without a thought takes away a lot of anxiety over "is it okay for me to kiss him? is he ready for that?") ((mbti nerd talk: basically eds dom se in-the-moment balances out ling's inf se wait-for-perfect-time-to-act-otherwise-dont-do-anything-at-all. lings dom ni heres-what-i-want-for-myself-and-my-future very much balances out eds negative inf ni i-have-no-future-screw-everything in eds development))

[MBTI General] If you think your good at typing, here's a challenge
i'd like to start this by saying i'm going to try to be as honest as i can about my shortcomings. I am 23 years old and i have had a rough life so far. My parents got a divorce when i was 7 and my mother soon remarried. My mom has bipolar disorder and struggled with it through out my childhood. I faced the brunt of her illness daily with frequent arguments and verbal/emotional abuse. My stepfather was a very strict and stern man, almost militaristic. Anyways i would describe myself as smart, funny, and caring. At my best I can be a very creative problem solver. I like to think of solutions and ways to fix something(not mechanical). For instance @ my current job people often ask my advice about a problem or a patient even though i'm young and don't have any qualifications. People have often said i seem older than my age and that i'm mature. I also have a good sense of humor. In groups im usually the one constantly cracking everybody up, i like to be the center of attention in certain situations. On the other hand i have pretty bad social anxiety at times and even though i love people, it takes alot of energy for me to meet a bunch of folks and get comfortable with them. One negative aspect of my personality that i notice is that when im interacting with people im constantly aware of how something i say or somebody else says to them makes them feel. So im constantly trying to say whatever i need to to make that person feel better. THe reason this is negative is because i get exhausted socializing sincew i feel like i need to take care of everybody's feelings. I wish i could just sit aside and let it flow but its a compulsive need to keep harmony in the group. I also have bipolar disorder like my mom and this has been a big factor in my life. I've taken mbti tests many times before and i don't think they were accurate due to my illness not being controlled at the time. When im depressed i come off extremely introverted and when im manic the opposite. Anyways another clue ill give that will help hopefully is that when I get stressed out i tend to become a different person. I abuse copious amounts of drugs and alcohol, i become manipulative and short tempered, and i become reckless. Im sober now but it seems that my shadow function is SE im not sure though. Im very good at poking holes in peoples arguments and bringing them to a conclusion closer to my own. I can be very charming and warm to people when at my best. I am not detail oriented at all, im constantly losing stuff and screwing up at my job because of this. At times i like to zone out and play music that we'll bring me back to a certain period in my life. For some reason i find it pleasurable to reminisce not just about the good times but the bad. Especially the bad and i don't know why this is, it's just fun for me to remember exactly where i was at during certain periods of my life. I play guitar but ive never been creative artistically per se. I dont write lyrics, dont paint or do any art, i just play other peoples stuff. Im fairly passive but when somebody crosses a certain line i tend to lay down the law pretty abruptly. I have to admit that i can be extremely manipulative when in a bad space or if i specifically dont like someone and justify the manipulation because i feel they deserve it. I'm very good at understanding peoples motives and whether they are being truthful or not. So from this little bit can anybody take a guess? sorry for the grammar and misspellings i wrote this in kind of a rush http://www.typologycentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=91333&goto=newpost&utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=tumblr
