Hey, so with the Loki season two finale airing in like four days, a show featuring a currently heavily implied romance between a dark haired immortal being who played a role in human history searching for his purpose and a just some blond guy—I feel like marvel has the opportunity to do the funniest thing ever, three years and four days after destiel was made canon and promptly executed on live television.

Welcome to my Mega Problematic Sylvie post

I wanted to make a list of everything problematic about Sylvie in s1 and s2 because she gets away with whatever she wants and it bugs me to no end that she never takes accountability for any of the pain she causes.

You have been warned. So let's get into it.

1. Sylvie’s way is the only way and she expects everyone else to just bend to her will without complaint

2. She is physically mentally and emotionally incapable of trusting anyone besides herself

3. She uses other people's emotions to manipulate them into getting what she wants

4. She refuses to even entertain the possibility that anything besides her own opinion is correct

5. She criticizes others' attempts to clean up the mess she caused while she herself does absolutely nothing about it

6. Always looking to ruin and run, taking the easy way out and avoiding any accountability

7. Puts her own need for revenge above the well-being of everyone else in the multiverse

8. Blames everyone else for the problems she herself caused

9. Insults everyone at the TVA for their lack of empathy despite it being the exact reason she didn't want to return in the first place. Every critique she delivers just illustrates how much of a hypocrite she is

10. Berates Mobius and all the people who are actually trying to fix her problem even though they never once blamed her for the mess they're in

11. Acts like she's doing everyone a favor just for being there and insulting everyone when in reality, Loki had to ask multiple times before finally getting her to return

12. Never willing to put in more effort than just destroying everything and walking away

13. Even when directly asked for her help, Sylvie straight up refuses. She couldn't care less about anything besides her McDonald's employee-of-the-month badge

14. Sylvie gaslights Loki into thinking they're the same, that she's not in the wrong because they're both only thinking of themselves. In reality, Sylvie is thinking only of going back to her own timeline, alone, while Loki is thinking only of making his friends happy, because that's what makes him happy too.

15. While being completely unsympathetic to Loki struggling with his greatest fear, Sylvie makes the decision that Loki's friend's are all better off where they are now. But is it really better for them, or just better for Sylvie?

16. And now, after 11 episodes and countless requests for Sylvie's help, she actually cares about the rest of the multiverse. And yet it's still solely because her own timeline is finally in danger

17. When Loki ends up sacrificing himself to solve the problem Sylvie created, her only response is a joyful shrug that she's now happy, alone, and responsibility-free.

Overall, I know Sylvie's only purpose as a character is to be a darker mirror of Loki and everything she does is understandably informed by her trauma. This is likely a result of having a limited-episode-series and having all male/not diverse writers creating female characters. Sylvie is used only as a comparison to Loki before he met Mobius, and unfortunately is never given any thoughtful character moments like Loki had showing how he was aware that his actions hurt others. In 1x1, Loki talks about how he doesn’t enjoy hurting people and only does it to maintain control. The only time we ever see Sylvie reconsider her actions is when she didn’t kill Timely, which I think is more because she saw herself in Timely as someone who didn’t want to be controlled by their ‘destiny,’ not because she developed any kindness or compassion toward him.

I understand the fact that Sylvie was never given someone like Mobius to allow her the opportunity to change like Loki did, but I don't think that should excuse her causing so much pain and being so self-centered. Sylvie never trusted or cared about anyone and that's also my biggest argument against Sylki; her loving or being driven by anyone besides herself is just so inconsistent with her entire character.

Anyway, my purpose here was not to be hateful or to search for any reason to criticize Sylvie, but instead to look critically at her character since I've seen a lot of people praise her as the strong, independent female Loki whose behavior can always be forgiven. Unfortunately, the way she was written is that Sylvie turned her own trauma into everybody else's problem and they all spent 2 seasons trying to clean up her mess. Kevin is a fun character for me because the character the game repeatedly tells us he is and the character the game repeatedly shows us he is are just… blatantly two different characters, but regardless of which one you choose to believe is canon, he’s still one of the most sympathetic mf in the game and I will be very upset if he’s actually killed off

I will say, while Pender had an hand in creating some iconic characters...other writers usually did them the justice they deserved and made them better.

Here's my take on the loki finale and why Mobius is the only one of the gang who didn't seem to have a conclusive, 'hopeful' ending.

Can't predict what the writers are thinking but the way I understand it is it's a hint that there's no version of reality where Loki is not there with him that will ever leave him fulfilled.

"Most purpose is more burden than glory," he said.

Others are shown finally having the choice to pursue their own "glory"/hope/ happiness. B-15 finds her purpose to lead and protect something she believes in, O.B. gets to live out his science fiction dream, writing a book of a place he now knows to be true and care about.

The end scene with Mobius and Sylvie is fascinating, for instance, because it shows the contrast between them both. Sylvie is different, she's reconstructed her own reality, found her own happines, lived a whole new life in the timeline without Loki or anyone.

But Mobius is the realist out of them all.

Mobius said before that he'd rather not know about his life before as it's easier not to, that the TVA is his whole life, that that's where he belongs. When the TVA changed, he finally left, but now he's there in front of the life he's supposed to have but he's in no hurry to go back, content to just "let the time pass."

I think he knows no matter which purpose he chose, whether at the TVA or getting his memory reinstalled back to him for a life on the timeline, there will always be a 'burden', something left lurking behind.

Maybe he realises he doesn't have a place 'he belongs to' anymore.

Perhaps it also dawns on him then, that it's never about the how (the TVA is changed now, no more prunings, no more sacred timeline, he would've done something he'd morally believe in if he stayed),

or the what (the jet skis, his garden, even his family, it could never be the same. It's incomplete, with all the burden of eons of memories behind him, and the lost of someone who made it possible)

or even the why (he's driven by 'the bigger picture', it's his one saving grace, the one thing he holds on to. He spent eons doing the same thing over and over, protecting the sacred timeline and what he believes to be true, when that turned out to be a bust, he turned his life upside down to protect his new purpose, the multiverse, but all of it is still to waste, they couldn't do it still, not without sacrificing-)

In the end, that wasn't what it's all about. The reason this whole madness started was because of one simple act of his, an insignificant character, to save someone, to be willing to take the leap in trusting one that everyone always dooms to fail. To tell that person, who never had anyone believe in him before, that they could "be anyone they want to be, even someone good."

It was never about the universe. Loki was right. It was never about the how, the what, or the why.

All along,

It was always about the who.

one of the big things i noticed was that Loki doesn’t seem to spend any time telling Mobius what’s going on. that he’s controlling the time slipping and trying to find a way to save literally everything.

there’s no moment where they have a brainstorm or Loki asks his advice. or tells him nothing is working. that he’s been trying for CENTURIES and he keeps losing.

he just tells him to trust him. “trust me” “trust me” and Mobius does.

and Mobius loses EVERYTHING.

I love the subtly of this scene. When Nine says that there is some Prism energy missing, he just looks down slightly. Leaving some implications.

While Sonic ponders this, Shadow looks down at the tech on Sonic's gloves and shoes, which stabilizes Prism energy. It seems like that's where Nine was looking. Then Shadow glares back, like he's saying, "So you want your tech back?"

But Nine just steels his gaze when he glances back at Shadow. Like they're having this wordless conversation to tell him that's not it.

Then it hits Shadow what Nine means.

It goes back to the first episode of season 2. Shadow tried to take the tech because he thought it would allow him to pass through the gates so he could collect the Prism shards. But it didn't work, because it was never the technology.

Nine doesn't need the tech. He needs Sonic.

This changes things. If Nine is willing to destroy other Shatterspaces to get what he wants, there's no telling what he'll do to get the energy from Sonic. Shadow has watched his best friend die right in front of him, and no way on Earth, Mobius, or whatever you want to call this planet is he going to let something like that happen again. He has to get Sonic out of there.

And as much as Shadow may hate to admit it, if there's any hope of restoring Green Hill and saving everyone, it's Sonic. So keeping him safe until they can figure out a way to stop Nine is priority one.

Canon or not they really have made Loki and Mobius’ relationship central this season and acknowledged how important it is and that Mobius saved Loki and saw something in him that no-one else did and they had Loki acknowledge that and whatever else happens I am so thankful we at least got that because it’s so important

You know what I think is really going to hurt next week.

I know that 99.9% Lokius will not be canon. It is Disney +, it is the MCU, Loki has too many fans they won't let him be in a relationship with a man.

I have been through this many times before, Merthur, Destiel etc.

But the difference is: this feels real. This feels like it is not queerbaiting. This feels like their love for each other is profound, unconditional. For both of them their 1st priority is each other. The many touches, body language, heart to hearts, Loki fixing himself up before he goes to talk to Mobius. The "it's about what I wanted"..."Mobius should have a choice". The pure adoration they have for each other. Them saving each other without a second thought. There is absolutely nothing toxic in their relationship and it feels real. For the first time ever this feels like the writers are not playing with us.

Do I want this to happen?

Do I want my favourite chatacter since I am 15 to be loved as he has never been loved before, to be cherished, to be accepted just as he is, to be chosen without hesitation?

Of course i do.

Will this happen? No. It will not. Either he will suddenly end up with Sylvie, proving that he is not worthy of anybodies love only his own, or he will stay alone.

They could have given us a normal friendship between him and Mobius. Would people still ship them? Of course, that is what shipping is about. But they have given us the most dangerous thing, the very thing that could end up hurting us more than anything: hope.

Becouse I know deep in my head it won't happen, but they made it so real I cannot help but to hope that maybe this time they won't hurt us, maybe this time for the first time we can be happy for our favourite characters, just maybe this one time all of us queer people can feel like we have won.

Loki was right: hope is hard.

Do you know what absolutely kills me?

Mobius doesn't often let himself get rattled. He usually lets things roll right off his back, no matter how chaotic things get. Two out of the three times we see his calm demeanor crack, however, are related to Loki: Once when he feels as if Loki betrayed him for Sylvie, and the other when he figures out that Loki will be sacrificing himself to save everyone. Even during the time that Brad goads him, and causes him to lose his temper, Loki is right there for him, to help him calm down again.

Loki really is the center of Mobius' universe, and the one thing that is able to break his composure, is the thought of losing him. 😢

it's the clenched fists that really send me over the edge, because he's trying desperately not to break down, not to lose his cool. he just needs to hold it together until loki gets back. he'll make it back. right?

but godddd that look of pure anguish on his face. it's like his life is flashing before his eyes but it's all just loki.

another scene where mobius loses his cool (that i just really love) is when they get separated at roxxcart. mobius is energized by the fact that they're so close to finishing this, but also that he and loki were gonna do it together. loki was the one who figured it all out and mobius was so proud and just,,, "you're gonna take my job if i'm not careful." and why did he have to say it like that???

anyway, the last thing mobius wants is loki out of his sight and he has a conniption about it!

"of course he's a threat [...] that's why i want him with me." and yes of course mobius knows better, because no one else knows loki like he does. but i'm also very endeared and amused by it. mobius please take a breath.

i also love loki's soft, "mobius, it's fine." just end me please.

AND YOU WANNA TALK ABOUT MOBIUS BEING AFRAID OF LOSING LOKI WHAT ABOUT THE ENTIRE FIRST EPISODE OF SEASON 2

i will never be okay again and it's because of THIS EPISODE.

"loki's here? where?" "i need a loki who remains." the look of horror on mobius' face every time loki timeslipped "he'll make it back." "give him more time! he can still make it!"

season 2 really is where mobius just falls apart and the crisis of faith fully sets in. of course his worst nightmare is losing loki; he's the only real thing mobius has left. "everything you've been doing is wrong, and all your gods are dead." and poetically enough, not all of mobius' gods are dead. loki's there. loki made it back to him.

and they're whole conversation in the automat after brad chipped away at whatever was left of mobius' defenses. of course mobius doesn't want to know about his past life. his past life didn't have loki. he likes his life at the tva because loki is there with him.

it's why he leaves once loki is gone

Every time I think I’m done ranting about how terribly Kevin’s character was handled, Mihoyo finds new and inventive ways of upsetting me. Anyways, I know the game wants me to like… be upset with Kevin for ignoring Dr. MEI’s last wish and all, but honestly I think he should ignore more of them. It’d be better for his health

Someone stop me from convincing myself that lokius is gonna be canon

LISTEN the thing that drives me insane is that it's so incredibly obvious how whipped they are for each other. It's not delusions, the love is there! Their story is a love story! If this wasn't disney I'd be CONVINCED they were gonna kiss at the end. The only thing holding them back is corporate homophobia.

The possibility that we get a kiss or a proper love confession is still totally there, though.

Because never in a million years did I expect to get a season like this that is fully focused on mobius and loki's love for each other. I never expected to get loki to confess that mobius changed him in the same way jane changed his brother. I never expected to see mobius willingly sacrificing himself for loki. I never expected all those touches and constant close proximity. I never expected an almost love confession. I never expected loki to choose mobius every. single. time. when given a choice. I never expected loki to so openly care for him. I never expected loki's timeslipping to be connected to his feelings and then seeing him timeslip to wherever mobius is, every time. I never expected loki fixing his hair and stuttering like a schoolboy with a crush while talking to single-dad jetski salesman mobius. I never expected loki to be the one who gave him the name mobius. I never expected loki to say "you saved my life when I first got here. you saw something. you saw something in me I hadn't seen in myself." I never expected loki to stare at mobius for an eternity before saying "it's about who". I never expected them to show us so clearly that loki and mobius each are only complete when the other is around.

Before every single episode aired I was telling myself "this is the one where they make it clear that loki and mobius are only best buddies" but then every new episodes upped the romance level between them instead.

What I expected to get from season two was a beautiful friendship between them that I would then complete on my own by opening ao3, but instead, I'm faced with one of the most beautiful queer romances I've ever seen.

And at this point, I don't care what creators have to say about them in case they don't go through with it because I have eyes and ears, after all. Don't write the most beautiful romance story ever if you don't want people to see it that way, then.
