Cole appreciation post
I love Cole so much, I genuinely think about this man multiple times a week.
My brother got me into DAI and the first time, I missed Cole's backstory and general context because my brother was the one playing and I couldn't watch him all the time, so I kinda thought he was like a telepath empath spirit dude who was really nice but didn't know how exactly to help sometimes
Then, I played by myself and I did the small "Odd Things" side quest where you hear people talk about odd things happening and them forgetting who exactly did it. So, I went to him and I eventually, with the help of a wiki with only one spoiler, I figured it out
And my dude, the amount that I held myself back from crying
Someone complains of a person they don't remember putting plums on the windowsill which attracts flies
You ask Cole about this and he says the plums don't mind. Odd, but whatever
Then you hear a woman talk about how lucky it is that there are more spiders, which means more spiderwebs to help the wounded
Rotting plums means more flies, means more spiders, means more spiderwebs, means more stuff to heal people who are injured
You hear a soldier complain that someone is taking daggers and putting them in barrels
Cole comments that they're safer there
A woman tells someone how she's a lot less scared in Skyhold now that the guards are fighting each other less. When they had their daggers, they'd threaten each other and get into fights
Cole is protecting both the soldiers and the people from harming or being harmed
In the kitchen, someone mentions mint and cheese being taken
In the tavern, a girl laughs about a cat acting funny and chasing a mouse, and how much it made her laugh
Go to the kitchen, and a maid says how the cook is in a good mood
Mice like cheese, cats like mice, and the catmint (probably) made the cat act weird, which made people laugh, including the cook.
Cole says the cook has been so stressed since Haven, and how the flames from the oven remind her of everything that happened, the people that died. By doing this, she forgot for a little bit. Enjoyed herself.
You don't know how much of this side quest almost made me cry
He just wants to help, he literally just wants to help
When I made him human, there's a cutscene at a restaurant and he laughs
Do you know how beautiful it is to hear a person laugh for the first time? For one of, if not the only time in the entirety of Dragon Age Inquisition
I try so fucking hard to remember him when I'm mad or pissed off because he wouldn't want me mad. He wants to help. A lot of the time, it doesn't work. I still ignore people, I still scream, I still get stressed, I still get annoyed at being told to do something I don't want to do even though I'm just watching a video, I still cry at night, but it helps sometimes. It just helps to know someone cares and wants you to feel and be better, even if they may not exist
I don't know why, but he's just so good, so kind and that is something that is so beautiful to me
I fucking love Cole, he is quite literally all that is good in the world and his existence matters so much to me
I could talk about him way way more but I'm about to walk in the rain, thank you and goodnight

Month 10 - Leafbare
Sagetooth sat in her nest, curled tightly around herself to warm her freezing paws. The previous day had come with even more snow which had made searching for horsetail out of the question. Even the border patrols had been cut to a bare minimum to prevent anyone else from getting frostbitten. Today the snow had stopped falling but its remnants still laid thickly over the ground and her expedition had proved fruitless. Now, she waited for her body to warm up enough so that she could head back out again.
Yarrowshade had barely left the Healers’ den since he and Nightfrost had come in together. He helped Nightfrost plan patrols and delivered them to the rest of the Clan, he went hunting once or twice and did his assigned border shifts, but aside from that he spent every moment with Nightfrost. They slept next to each other, they shared tongues, they talked about Barleypaw’s training and the truce with EarthClan and other things.
Sagetooth had tried to tamp down her annoyance at their inane conversations. As much as she had no interest in love, she knew how important it was to other cats and she knew that Nightfrost’s situation was precarious. It was better that she focus on finding the proper medicine than on getting upset that a patient had someone who loved her. At least Branchbark had received a clean bill of health. If one more cat was stuck inside the den with her, she thought she might burst.
Outside the den, the world was a blinding white void under the noonday sun, all sound muffled by the snow blanketing the camp. Still, the sound of young voices chattering reached her ears and shortly enough, Oddstripe and his kits filtered into the den. Sagetooth sighed.
“Yarrowshade!” Barleypaw cried, rushing to her mentor’s side to snuggle up against him.
He laughed and lifted an arm to welcome her, opening one eye from his nap. “Hey, kiddo! I missed you!”
“Me too,” she nodded, burying her face in his fur contentedly.
Sparrowpaw and Floodpaw were bickering about something. “You’d be lost before you even found him,” Sparrowpaw frowned.
Floodpaw lifted his head and said, “Nuh-uh, I’d find him and choke him with his own collar.”
“You would not!” cried Sparrowpaw, seeming to get genuinely upset.
“Boys! Boys!” Oddstripe placated, “Nobody is going to the city to fight Razor. Can we please stop fighting?”
“I’m not fighting,” Floodpaw insisted, “he’s the one getting mad.”
“‘Cause you’re being a beebrain!” Sparrowpaw shouted through gritted teeth.
“Quiet!” Sagetooth snapped, “Both of you.” And the two apprentices fell silent, ducking their heads in shame.
Oddstripe offered her an apologetic wince. “Sorry, Sagetooth.”
“Did you find any horsetail?” she asked, dismissing the apology with a flick of her ear.
“No,” Oddstripe sighed. “I can go out again in a bit.” He stepped deeper into the den, then paused to cough.
“Dammit, Oddstripe,” Sagetooth growled, “are you sick?”
“What?” He looked up at her. “No, no, my throat is just dry.” He coughed again, trying to hide his muzzle in his shoulder.
“I’ll get you some water, Papa!” Sparrowpaw offered and bolted out of the den.
“It’s all gonna be frozen, you moron!” Floodpaw called as he followed after his brother.
“Sit down,” Sagetooth ordered. Oddstripe complied. Holding her breath, Sagetooth leaned in to press her ear against his chest. Oddstripe, who knew the procedure, waited for her to get into place and then took a deep slow breath, but it collapsed into coughs before he could finish filling his lungs.
“You are sick!” Sagetooth lashed her tail. “Get in your nest right now, young man. And make sure your fool kits give you a wide berth.” Oddstripe crept to his nest, ears hanging low.
“I’m sorry, Sagetooth,” he managed.
“Don’t be sorry,” she said, “be better. I’m going to go looking for horsetail again. Treat yourself with catmint and stay away from Nightfrost. You don’t want her getting whitecough on top of frostbite.” Oddstripe nodded obediently.
“Is Papa gonna be okay?” Barleypaw asked, her voice timid.
“He’ll be fine if he stays in bed and gets his rest,” Sagetooth sighed, trying to be gentle. She did like Barleypaw.
“I’ll be fine, sweetheart,” Oddstripe reassured her and he was right. They had plenty of herbs to treat a cough and he had enough knowledge to treat himself and keep an eye on his symptoms. Nightfrost however… Sagetooth looked at the deputy and frowned. Her paws were wrapped with clean cobwebs and she was warm inside the den but… infection was just too likely, especially with their lack of useful stock. Nightfrost met her gaze and offered her a tight lipped smile in return. She understood exactly what Sagetooth had been thinking.
“I’ll be back soon with the horsetail,” the Healer said and then tromped into the snow before anyone could contradict her. She squinted harshly against the snow glare, mumbling curses under her breath. She would find the damned horsetail or, so help her StarClan, she would burn the entire forest down through sheer irritation.
~~~
When she returned, she was cursing herself. Finding a certain plant through thick snow was harder than she had thought and, even when searching the places that she knew horsetail grew, it was tedious and tricky to push through the snow and uncover any of it. She hadn’t been able to find any useful horsetail at all.
And what was worse, her paws were numb. She had tried to be careful and quick but her route had been a bit farther than she had anticipated and, by the time she had made it back to camp, she knew her paws were frostbitten. The damage was much less severe than Nightfrost had suffered but it was still a foolish mistake that was going to have serious consequences.
With Oddstripe on bed rest, this meant that no one would be able to treat wounds for a while. Especially if Nightfrost’s paws became infected, Sagetooth would not be able to touch them at all or else she might catch the infection. This was bad and she was furious with herself for making such a sloppy mistake.
As she entered the camp, she shouted, “Branchbark!” and the young warrior quickly scrambled out of the warriors’ den.
“Yes?” he asked dutifully. Sagetooth nearly sighed in relief. Nearly.
“I need you to go hunting for horsetail tomorrow. This is urgent, do you understand me?”
He nodded, a bit dumbstruck. “Yes, Sagetooth. I understand.”
“Good,” she huffed. “And don’t you dare come back with frostbite.” With that she turned and stomped into her den to warm her paws. Inside, Yarrowshade was asleep against Nightfrost’s side, but the deputy was awake and locked eyes with her. Sagetooth huffed again and looked away, unable to hold her patient’s gaze. She hoped that there would be time for Nightfrost to forgive her for her callousness.
UPDATES: - Branchbark recovers from whitecough - Oddstripe comes down with greencough - Sagetooth returns from herb gathering with frostbite. - RisingClan does not have enough healthy healers!
Leader Lives: Leafstar
Leafstar! Miss Mama Cat! First leader of New!Skyclan.
For those new here, Leader Lives is the in-depth look on the 9 lives a leader gets during their ceremony, how they lost them, and in what order.
Her first life is a special one. It is given to her by Firestar. While fighting against the rats, Firestar sees a vision of Runningwind. Runningwind looks at Leafstar and tells Firestar that he can transfer a life to her, but he'll have to give it up as if he is dying.
He collapses under the rat pile, meets with Runningwind, and transfers over the life. (Runningwind also spills the beans that Sandstorm is pregnant OOPSIE)
Leafdapple's first life is Firestar's Life, for Reigniting Skyclan.
Her second life is from the recently passed Skywatcher, who gives her a life for Hope. Hope is not a wonderful, pretty thing. It can be watching the stars night after night, pleading and begging for your family to be reunited, for your home to be saved. Hope is heavy in Leafdapple's chest.
Her third life is from a cat named Hen. Hen is Leafdapple's mother. She gives her baby girl a life for Love. The fierce love that a mother has for her children, but also the ferocious love of a loyal friend, and a love for your home.
Her fourth is from Redstar, for Wisdom. She is a smart cat, who will need to make logical choices, but not forget her emotional intelligence that will help her make the choices that are truly wise.
Her fifth life is from Birchstar, ancestor of Clovertail and Heavystep, and she gives Leafdapple a life for Sympathy and Understanding. Every cat's situation is unique, and though you may not always understand, it is best to listen rather than ignore.
Her sixth life is from Swiftstar. See things through to the end, no matter what. Do your best to keep going, and never let others down, never break promises. Swiftstar was always the more rough, straightforward type.
Her seventh life is from Dawnstar, for Selflessness. If someone had just shown a little bit of this trait that night, a horrible Era in history could have stopped before it began, and a horrific injustice would have never happened.
Her eighth life is from Cloudstar. He gives her the life for Endurance. The strength that can last through terrible journeys, push on when your heart breaks, and keeps you going, even when things seem hopeless.
Then... Quiet. Is this it? Is Skyclan's new leader only going to get 8 lives? Is this a bad sign?
Then, on the horizon, a voice calls out. A beautiful voice that sings like a bird...
Birdflight bounds over the horizon, many other lost Skyclan cats flooding in until stars are sparkling all over, more plentiful than the dapples on Leafdapple' pelt. Shimmering and shining and calling out to one another, free from their ghostly wandering and Rat prisons and returned from their hiding spot in the old Starclan... They form Sky-Starclan, otherwise known as the Skywatcher Lights.
Birdflight steps forward and grants Leafstar a life for Faithfulness. Even when things are at their lowest, and everything feels pointless, like you'll never be happy again... You will. Happiness may not be constant, but neither is misery. You will see your loved ones again.
The first life to be lost is Dawnstar's during Skyclan's Destiny. Leafstar takes a lethal blow meant for Harvey that Red had tried to get in the way of. Leafstar had shoved her out of the way and taken it on herself. She asks Dawnstar if helping the other cats is the right thing to do. Dawnstar shows her a vision. Dawnstar, laying in her den, dying of Greencough. She is offered the last bit of catmint by her medicine cat, only for a small kitten to catch her sight. He is sick, but Dawnstar sees Starclan spirits nodding their heads in approval at him. Dawnstar denies treatment, and the kit grows up to be the legendary Marshstar, the leader who lead Shadowclan out of a very dark era and away from the time of Ripplestar. Leafstar takes in Red and Harely.
Her next life lost is from Birchstar. She loses the life saving Harry and drowning during Flooded Skies (WCR!Skyclan and The Stranger). She had been very cautious, and with a gifted Medic like Echosong, Skyclan was incredibly safe for quite some time, leaving life loss at minimal, even with a huge Whitecough outbreak. She sees Birchstar's death, infection gripping her as she struggles to breathe, feverish and frightened about where she will go after she dies, after all, what should become a leader that exiles an entire Clan? It's that Sympathy and Understanding that makes Leafstar a much more open minded person, and though it has drawbacks like letting Harry into Skyclan for that amount of time, Leafstar would rather make a mistake than toss out an innocent.
Her third life lost is from Swiftstar, to the sickness that sweeps through Skyclan during their journey, with Leafstar dying instead of Firefern now. After a long period of relative peace, she hadn't lost a life in quite a while, and... This is the first of many sudden losses. She gets to see how Swiftstar lost his final life, fighting a battle that he could never have won against Shadowclan, their leader Gorsestar tearing open his belly. Even with the lethal wounds, Swiftstar manages to leave a nasty scar on Marshfall's face, giving him the new name Marshscar. Even dying, Swiftstar stuck to his ground, though not the best cat to have lived, it taught Leafstar about staying determined until the bitter end.
The fourth life taken is from Redstar, lost when she is poisoned by Juniperclaw. The life showcased the horrible truth of the last leader involved in Skyclan's exile. Gorsestar, Cloudstar's son, had risen to power within Shadowclan, and attacked Redstar as the Sky Oak died at a Gathering. In the horrible fight, Redstar had fallen off if the rock the 2 fought on, snapping his neck, but remaining alive just long enough to see Shadowclan's leader crushed to death under the rotted oak, split by disease and a lightning strike.
She is then given a vision of Ripplestorm, son of Gorsestar, becoming Ripplestar, launching attacks in an aimless goal before nearly being struck directly with lightning, the stone itself being steuck and the current from the bolt itself killing him... The leader's remaining placing a BAN on talking about Skyclan.
The 4 leaders step forward, bow their heads, and apologize...
Leafstar's fifth life lost is the one from Birdflight. Rather than going first through branches, she instead watches over her Clanmates when they go over a branch that sits over a rapid, swollen river, watching in case anyone falls in, as only 1 cat can go at a time. Gravelpaw falls into the river, and when Leafstar goes into the water to save them, she is only able to save Gravelpaw, drowning herself before Ebonyclaw can grab her out. She meets with Birdflight, and they talk. Birdflight tells her to be strong, that Skyclan will stick together, she needs to hold onto her faith that things will get better.
Her next lost life was the one from Skywatcher. During Squirrelflight's Freedom, when a rockslode is triggered by the fight against the Sisters, Leafstar is caught in it too. She bleeds out through a large wound that a sharp rock put into her front left leg. She watches the trial in Starclan, though is not allowed to speak in it. Skywatcher sits with her, and reminds her that Skyclan, and subsequently Sky-Starclan, is different for a reason.
Leafstar's seventh life lost is from Hen. A few moons after Squirrelflight's Hope, taking place during Princess' Passing but only seen in a Lost Stars Bonus Chapter, Billystorm is found Leaf-fall afternoon to be dead. He died in his sleep, having a peaceful nap with Leafstar after their midday meal. He most likely had a blood clot or some kind of heart attack. It was probably the worst moment in Leafstar's life. After his funeral, she would simply lay in her den, not eating or drinking unless Freckleshine and Fidgetflake pushed her to do it. At one point Leafstar opens her eyes to see the swirling meadow of Starclan's entrance. Seeking comfort, she picks Hen, and cries to her beloved mother that her heart has shattered. Hen comforts her daughter, telling her that she will see Billystorm again, it's only a matter of time. She tells Leafstar that she still has life ahead of her, and while it's normal to miss Billystorm, her kits need her too, and Billystorm wouldn't want her to grieve herself to death.
Leafstar's next life lost is... Well....
Nightheart sends a message to Skyclan from Tigerstar during ASC Book 2. Just a spice trade, some coriander for some dill...
Leafstar, atop the one of the highest branches in the old sycamore that Skyclan's camp holds, stops talking. She lurches, her chest in agony. She falls from the highest branch...
The life she picks to lose is the one from Firestar, and she finally gets to see her friend again. She requests gently to see how he died. What happened while Skyclan were at the Gorge?
He plays out exactly what happened. His death at Tigerclaw's paws, along with springing out of his own body to finish the tyrant off. To Leafstar, it's nothing short of magical.
Leafstar wakes up, but begins to shake, her eyes rolling back once more as the world fades again.
Confused, Leafstar glances at the only cat whose life she has not spent. Cloudstar.
He informs her that the fall from her heart stopping broke her neck, taking her 9th life. Skyclan will be okay, it always has been. She was the best choice for leader to reignite Skyclan, and now she deserves to rest.
She sees Billystorm again, running to him and purring with a much younger voice, her body now back to the moment she was happiest.
What she does not know, is that as she died, Waspwhisker and the missing Skyclan cats have just wandered back into camp... Now what is Skyclan to do with 2 deputies?
do you have anything extra planned for Sorreltail? I’m rereading TNP and I like the chapters with her and Leafpaw the most.. they’re so cute. Also lmao @ Leafpaw calling Mothwing beautiful in every chapter
[ID: BB!Sorreltail. She's a big, spiky, fluffy white cat with chocolate brown accents and peanut-butter cream patches. Her eyes are bright yellow.]
just a little, a smidge really. I'm very normal about BB!Sorreltail.
Sorreltail is head of the Kitchen Patrol, she developed a love of it because no one would cook her grasshoppers.
Grasshoppers are her FAVORITE food, she loves chasing them, she loves their crunch, loves their funny long rabbit legs.
Not forgetting her lifelong friendship with Squilf and Leafpool, ABSOLUTELY not. Gal Pals <3
She gets along with most cats, unless they try to eat raw meat in camp, in which case she pummels a lecture about tapeworms into their head.
Sorreltail has epilepsy from her childhood nightshade poisoning! It gave her neurological damage; it expresses as absence seizures.
An absence seizure isn't convulsive like the 'classic' clonic-tonic; she suddenly 'spaces out', eyes rolling up, losing control of her body for a brief period of time. Usually about 5 seconds.
She is not conscious during a seizure, and it will interrupt her train of thought in the moment. She's able to go right back to whatever she was doing, but needs to be reminded of what she was talking about if she was mid-sentence.
She often has multiple, brief seizures in a day.
Some days are rough and she can have several dozen. Other days see none at all.
She had a seizure on the Thunderpath and was grazed by a car. Her assessment was delayed as a result.
Rainwhisker and Sootfur went ahead and got their names without her "LIKE A BUNCH OF JERKS"
Her treatment plan is valerian supplements; she likes this treatment because it helps prevent her from getting drowsy.
Valerian acts like catmint, making her giddy and more hyper. She really appreciates the stimulant because she's an active, outgoing gal.
She looks a LOT like her papa Whitestorm, her siblings look more like Willowpelt. (Graystripe, Darkstripe, Cricketclaw, and Featherkit are Dappletail's kids now; they have no relation to Willowpelt.)
The spiky fur and face mask are actually passed down from Thistleclaw himself, the wolf-tail is a Bluestar family trait from Snowfur.
The coloring was initially based on a grasshopper but then I realized it also kinda looks like ice cream.
ThunderClan cats tend to be large and fluffy, Sorreltail is a good example of it.
She's going to live a LOT longer, in fact, she's alive up to the current arc! However, she sadly lost her mate Brackenfur in Po3. She misses him every day. They had four kittens in one litter; Cinderheart, Honeyfern, Poppyfrost, and Molepaw.
Because Sorreltail is staying alive, Sorrelstripe is named Duststripe after Dustpelt instead. Lilypaw and Seedpaw are his and Ferncloud's. Ferncloud is also surviving.
ive seen quite a few herbs in the game that i don't recognize, like mullein and plantain, were these in the books and i missed them or did you guys make them up?? im just asking because i don't recall seeing them on the wiki
When we were making the herb system, we had to balance what has been mentioned in the books already with all the various roles we needed the herbs to do - catmint can't cure all around here, not when we needed things to deal with poison, for example. So it was a balance of things taken from a warrior wiki page vs some other herbs we added in for our own purposes. ~Tiri (I wrote every single basic herb gathering patrol, it was a busy month. I've never had to try produce so much content on such a restricted subject before. Whew!)
HP FESTS: dhr_advent (part 5)
dhr_advent 2023:
Teach Me How To Fall by sodamnrad - M, one-shot - raco forces offers to teach Hermione how to play Quidditch for the Ministry's holiday game.
Keep It Like a Secret by PacificRimbaud - M, one-shot - He regards her with interest, cool as the ice in his G&T. “What do you want?” On close inspection, he's a bit deadly. It's the combined power of self-regard, an open ear, and a cunningly tailored suit. Hermione wants— “An expiration date would be nice.” She suctions up the watery dregs and signals for more. “Let’s say I want . . . a year. Exactly one year of monogamy without the possibility of further commitment."
In Want of a Wife by ambpersand - E, one-shot - Through a few forced breaths, Hermione manages to settle her nausea well enough to slide out of bed, squinting at the bright morning light. The braid of ribbons follows her left hand as she pulls the curtains closed, a giant knot of silver and gold that won’t shake free. While she works on unwinding them from her hand and arm, she checks the papers, finding the signatures she hoped they would be too drunk to remember to complete. Unfortunately not. There they sit, sloppy and side by side. Her’s a little cramped and rushed, his a little too large and loopy. Her lungs squeeze tight. They actually did it. At some point between the first glass of nettle wine and the last bottle of Dragon Barrel brandy, it must have stopped being a joke. She’s still wearing her dress from the night before, which fits the messy carnage that surrounds her. It’s wrinkled and a bit twisted around her waist, but at least it’s not tossed on the floor with the rest of her marriage licence. The only thing missing is her apparent husband.
sweet dreams of holly and ribbon by LovesBitca8 - E, one-shot - The war against the Dark Lord continues on, but Hermione is stuck at Grimmauld Place with the world's most annoying house guest.
From the Journal of Hermione Granger by Catmint and Thyme (Languish_Locked_in_L) - M, one-shot - Only one bed, rainforest edition. In which Hermione Granger goes on an expedition to Costa Rica in search of a magical (probably mythical) poinsettia with her insufferable colleague, Draco Malfoy, who she can't stop drawing. (It's not creepy, he just has good bone structure.)
Not What It Looks Like by eveningstruggle - M, one-shot - A hot, panicky hurt begins to throb inside her chest. This doesn’t make sense. Is it some type of horribly misguided practical joke? Revenge for shutting him down a few months ago? Or—is it a parting gift? A “so long and thanks for the memories, now I’m off to fuck someone else?” ”What—” Her voice croaks. She clears her throat and tries again. “What the fuck is this, Malfoy?” Confusion creases his forehead. “They’re photos of you.” She’s five seconds from bolting back through the Floo. “I can see that. Why have you given me two dozen terrible photos of myself for Christmas?” Or: Draco gives Hermione a Christmas gift.
Sounds Worth It by RoseHarperMaxwell - T, one-shot - The first time Draco seeks her out at the hospital is a crisp October day, which happens to be the six-month anniversary of her divorce. “Hello,” says Hermione, glancing up from her paperwork. “Draco. Can I…help you?” He’s well put together, dropping gracefully into the chair across from her desk without invitation. “Yes. I’m in need of medical attention.” “I see.” Hermione does not, in fact, see. This is quite unorthodox. There’s a triage procedure and rarely does it result in patients coming to her office. “Tell me more.” Five times Draco fakes an ailment as an excuse to visit Hermione, and one time he doesn't. D/Hr Advent 2023 🎄
Penguins, Pebbles, and Other Reasons to Pursue Unemployment by mightbewriting - T, one-shot - “Is that…shit? On my desk?” Granger doesn’t so much as look up from her mountain of teetering parchments at Draco’s question. Her hair: frazzled. Her frown: ominous. The energy in their shared office: frantic. “Penguin shit,” she says. “Specifically, it’s penguin shit.” [In which a penguin-themed mishap at the Ministry nearly costs Draco his sanity.]
Hattie X Cinderpelt
Quick Doodle for my rarepair Hattie X Cinderpelt!
Hattie is a kittypet that appears briefly in Firestar's quest and is the cat who Rusty's owners adopt after he went missing. Cinderpelt and Hattie do not interact in canon but I like the idea they meet when she is gathering Catmint in the twoleg garden. They bond over snails (because of the snail Cinderpelt has in Brightheart's manga!)
Please vote for them if you'd like to hear more, I am working on a short fanfic and slightly bigger drawing as well. :3
For real if I could just avoid social interactions I would. Sadly there's ONE (1) person who knows omori sitting next to me so I GUESS I have to stick around 😒😒😒
(I JUMPED okay. Bro was like "your style looks like omori" and I GASPED)
(now I need to find a way to tell him I'm a guy. Despite how girlypop I am 🏋️ in highschool I'd just tell people but it's really uncomfortable when they don't believe you/don't take you seriously)
Counting the months until I'm 18 btw I need money for gender purposes
Man, I miss my irl friends
K, N and E good fucking luck this looks hellish
TLDR
Tosteur cannot speak and is happy that the (can I call than a hyperfixation??? I. I don't know) omori brainrot can be unleashed. Probably not to it's fullest, imagine me rambling about catmint. Embarrassing
Moon 242-Newleaf
The Clan misses Amberwhisker, but he wasn’t super close to anyone. Still, it’s never a good thing to be down a warrior. Especially since RaccoonClan has been taking herbs from ElementClan without asking. Hopedawn (31) travels to the other Clan to resolve the problem. Downgaze (23) congratulates her for doing well with it. Tumbleswoop (31) is glad that Hopedawn is such a good sister and adds a bit of her fluff to his nest. Echomoor (23) is less thrilled with Hopedawn. Yeah, he’s friends with her brother, but that doesn’t mean she can bump into him without apologizing. Surprising everyone, Sweet Marmalade (27) is actually getting better. His broken back is no longer infected! In fact, he thinks he’ll challenge Creekstar (96) to a race! Maybe in another moon buddy. Rindlepaw (9) is working hard to be the best Healer apprentice she can be. While Paleburst (21) is napping and Safariaster (149) is playing with some catmint, she’s busy checking up on the warriors. Brightmouse (17) wants to get to know Shinebreak (17) better-and what better way to do that than by immersing herself in Shinebreak’s element! She wonders if she’d make a good swimmer. Are there any mountain lakes nearby? Rubbleheart (38) notices Brightmouse’s sudden obsession with water and is curious about Brightmouse’s intentions with Shinebreak and is using his wind magic to eavesdrop on her. Shinebreak notices and doesn’t understand why he thinks it’s his business. Dawnfreckle (26) wishes that he could prove himself, but he’s also happy just being a cat that someone else can talk to. Oriolepaw (8) feels like she’s a failure and doesn’t fit in with the Clan. She cuddles up against Almondback (13) and he comforts her, telling her that failures hurt but are a chance to learn.
Meta: Sadly, this is the moon that Eaglepaw (Shinebreak's lost brother) died while lost. He got his adult sprite before he died, so let me know if any of you want to see it.
Dappleddusk remained on damage control for the rest of the night, working alongside Beewatcher and the clan's mediators, Hollyclaw and Heatherflower.
The most important cat in need of their attention was obviously Sandfeather, but they squared away any other cats visibly shaken by the day's events to be spoken to individually. Beewatcher herded Sandfeather away to a private corner far from the medicine cats' den where Eagleburn remained, having an apprentice fetch some catmint from their stores.
With everyone delegated and working on their tasks, Dappleddusk found herself slowly padding towards the medicine cats' den. She knew full well Oatstar had been in there since the end of the gathering--she had watched him slip in, and never come back out. She should be avoiding the den, in fact. She should be furious and focusing on other tasks to keep her mind busy.
But she wasn't going to see Oatstar.
She needed to see Eagleburn.
"--I didn't know what else to do."
As she slowly poked in her head, barely missing the apprentice skirting past her on catmint-fetching duty, she heard Oatstar's whisper.
"I understand, you were put into a difficult position," Eagleburn's reassuring, deep voice answered, soothing. Dappleddusk felt her lip curl at the sound of him reassuring that coward, but...
It was all an act, wasn't it?
Eagleburn knew exactly how to play into the tom cat's feelings, making him feel validated, but also further enmeshing them.
"Dappleddusk, you can come over. It's alright."
Foxdung. She forgot how keen his senses were with the absence of his sight.
Oatstar likewise seemed surprised, sitting upright in a shock as his interim deputy slunk forward. Head down, shoulders hunched, tail low, she looked ready to swat at Oatstar, and he shrunk back, no longer confident as he was outside. But she chose to sit, ears flat as her tail wrapped itself over her forepaws.
"So you heard?"
"All of it. A bit too much, actually."
Eagleburn seemed perfectly fine with it all by Dappleddusk's assessment, licking a paw and lifting it to groom his ears.
"I would have given everyone more than the night to settle their feelings, but I know, Oatstar, you were under pressure."
Oatstar looked away, shameful. Good, thought Dappleddusk, resisting the urge to sneer.
"In the morning, before the dawn patrol, let me speak with the clan. Let them address me as they need."
Dappleddusk and Oatstar both looked at Eagleburn in shared surprise.
"Are you a glutton for punishment?" asked Dappleddusk, incredulous. "They'll rip you to shreds!"
"And they won't feel at peace until they have a chance to do so," Eagleburn firmly replied. "Do you think Sandfeather will leave peacefully? Not only that, but if she leaves, you fracture an entire family of good cats who have been nothing but loyal to DawnClan. Sandfeather's grandmother was one of our founders when HillClan fell."
Ugh, he made a good point.
"Then, you are...?"
"I want to open a dialogue, and if Sandfeather, or any others, are not satisfied with that..."
He quieted, flexing his claws into his mossy bed.
"They can speak to me through their actions."
Unable to believe her ears, Dappleddusk stared.
"You're willing to risk getting killed in a fight so they can get over themselves?"
"I killed Bayspots. Even while it was self-defense, it is, as you said Oatstar, a sin and a smear on StarClan's face. How else should I show to Sandfeather that I truly seek redemption and forgiveness for committing the worst possible thing?"
Dappleddusk fell silent, and Oatstar, of course, had no good advice, only shifting nervously. Unfortunately, Eagleburn made a good point. While it was utterly insane, forcing Sandfeather to leave was far from a good idea, along with not letting her work through this anger and letting it simmer. They could see a civil war within their very clan.
"... Very well," Dappleddusk sighed. "I will do whatever I can to help."
Eagleburn's whiskers twitched, letting out a short purr.
"Thank you, Dappleddusk. Oatstar, are you okay with this?"
"Of course."
Dappleddusk loathed how quick he was to agree, glancing over at him. Oatstar's eyes were wholly on Eagleburn, however.
"Whatever you need."
Nodding, Eagleburn yawned.
"For now, both of you should get some sleep. Tomorrow will be a long day."
After the war of clans...
A hush was placed over the whole of Mausmountain, even the marigolds that littered the scenery stopped. The dancing of the tree's leaves stilled. Crickets stopped singing in wait of something great, something never seen before.
Gentlefeather took this as a message to keep walking. Trees swamped the veiw to the left and right, leading her down a narrow path where Moonfalls lay. A delicate glow grew brighter and brighter as her paw steps sped up.
''Starclan is here.'' She whispered, finally a tail's length away from the rushing water. The waterfall's foam licked her paws as Gentlestar tentatively waded in. Nose reaching to touch the end of the waterfall, she was transported to a lavender and blue plains. Every passed on cat she once knew, and those she didn't were there.
A smokey grey tabby was making her way through the crowd. Catmint green and billowing was held from her right ear. One of her paws was missing.
''Mother!'' Gentlefeather ran to Wolverineleaf.
Using her tail to hold her mother close she cried, ''It's been forever since I last felt your warmth.''
''I could say the same to you my daughter.'' Wolverineleaf's face suddenly hardened. ''You must be confident now, walking alone or with your clanmates. I give you this life for confidence.''
A jolt of burning pain slashed into Gentlefeather, her legs trembling as she tried to stay straight. She could hear her mother's deep laughter.
''Walk on daughter, that was only the first one now.'' Gentlefeather touched noses with Wolverineleaf one last time before moving on to another cat, who she reconized as Antlerpaw. He was one of the paws she trained with. He had been killed when a tree fell upon him and Gentlefeather's mentor, Sandfeather. The incident had been the first time she ever cried, and begged starclan to save her mentor.
''Greetings Gentlefeather! I always found it funny how 'Gentle' was in your name when you were always so heavy pawed!'' He giggled and swayed as he approached her eagerly.
''Go on little one. I will recieve a life from you. Stars are basically falling from your pelt with excitement.'' Gentlefeather reached down for the little 'paw and smiled as the same hot pain rushed into her again.
''Thats for sympathy! Since you're so stoic HAHA!'' He ran away after that, bouncing after some orange kits that sadly were in starclan.
Starlingrunner and Mistyplume come forward together.
''I have endurence for you, new 'star. Mistyplume comes to bring you friendship in your time of leadership.'' Starlingrunner doesn't waste any time as she passes her gift to Gentlefeather, as does Mistyplume.
Starlingrunner dips her head in leave and Mistyplume shocks Gentlefeather by actually speaking, ''Good luck.'' Mistyplume's blue eyes dance as Gentlefeather remains shocked. Mistyplume's voice was restored!
Blueshell's brown tabby fur breezed by the two leaving she-cats. She placed a crow's feather by Gentlestar's paws and gave her a life for clear judgement.
Next was Driftdapple, a former kittypet Gentlefeather had found and saved from a swarm of rats. He was restored to his youth, as he lived the rest of his life with the clan after his saving.
''You have so much bravery little one, I shall give you a dependable heart for your bravery to rest on. Be scared and frightful no longer, and find relief in your choices.'' Driftdapple embraced Gentlefeather as his gift racked through her.
''Almost done, I promise.'' With a smile he sat by the rest of the beaming life-gifters.
Sandfeather, who she was named after sprang up, his once dull pelt now a sandy red. Tears brimmed in Gentlefeather's eyes.
''I see you named yourself after me huh?'' He jested.
''You saved my kits. Even when fire ripped you apart you saved them, and my whole litter.'' Gentlefeather buried herself into his chest, crying.
''Dear, I mentored your mother, your father, and then you. It was my destiny to keep your family safe.'' With that, he gave her a life for mercy.
Bluebellspeckle and his pretty forget-me-nots came up from behind her with a loud ''BOO!''
She turned on her paws, unknowingly pushing herself into his nose! Pain rushed once again through her.
''Got you! That one is for unity within the clan, and the other clans when needed!'' He placed a flower by the crow feather that was left for her. ''Keep this to show the medicine cat okay?''
Gentlefeather rolled her eyes and nodded, the pain numbing her maw.
''This is the last cat..'' Gentlefeather thought as she closed her eyes in wait.
''Are you really not going to look at me, Appleworm?!'' Briarstar's shrill voice rang through the clearing, her fur bristling. Briarstar tugged Gentlefeather's ear low.
''HEY HEY OKAYY!!'' One eye opened to see Briarstar licking one of her paws in fake annoyance.
''Come now kit, I have a life for you, and a good one too! And if you don't use it I'll be mad as a badger in winter!'' Briarstar lurched forward and touched the last life into Gentlefeather with her signiture tail strike!
Catching Gentlefeather-no, GentleSTAR, Briarstar mewed across the plains, ''EVERY CAT WITH A VOICE AND SOUL SING OF OUR NEW LEOPARDCLAN LEADER, GENTLESTAR!''
A chorus of mews and yells billowed loudly over every other noise in starclan.
''GENTLESTAR, GENTLESTAR, GENTLESTAR!''
Dizzy as a hit mouse, Gentlestar could only half-giggle before going to sleep next to all her life-gifters, and return to the real life, as GentleSTAR!
Bone what herbs should be used for a funeral
(CONTENT WARNING: DEATH AND DEAD BODIES. DECAY. BLOAT. STINK. MAGGOTS, EVEN. MORTUARY THINGS.)
Quick answer: Fennel, valerian, catmint, so the mourners can still safely 'share tongues.' Mint/Lavender if the body isn't looking so fresh. Vinegar, salt, herb oil, a very creative flower arrangement if it's yikesy.
Mortuary student answer:
Depends really, what state did they find the body in?
If they died in-camp, then they can just use any nice-smelling herb. The remains won't be stinking unless they were already smelling bad when they were alive.
At this stage I would avoid the canonical lavender and mint, since it's shown that they like to "share tongues" with them one last time. Those two herbs are poisonous! Instead, go with fennel, valerian, and catmint if there's enough to spare. Fragrant flowers that can still be consumed without harming the mourners.
Now if they died away from camp? They might have been laying there a while.
Generally after about 2-ish hours, the corpse will be in rigor mortis (depends on the temperature tho, heat speeds up decay). At this point there's no smell, and they can be brought home and mourned just like a cat who died in the camp.
You can expect the body to stay fresh about 1 - 3 days, depending again on the season, but you're gonna start noticing the belly begin to bloat.
And THIS is where you're going to have bigger problems to patch up, and you're gonna smell it before you see it.
The biggest one is going to be the maggots. There is no getting around this; a forest is full of flies. A single day after a fly lays its eggs, you will see the little noodles doing their little noodly things.
They're doing their job breaking down organic matter is all!
No need to be afraid of them. If the body needs to be stored because you're pending a funeral, just bust out those mint and lavender herbs I told you to put aside earlier. Those are insect repellents-- but it will mean they can't do the customary 'sharing of tongues.' Chives and other onion-relatives could also be helpful here
If the maggots are already having a party, clean them off. I mention that ShadowClan can ferment vinegar-- that would be super helpful. Just take a mossball of it and wipe lmao. They want to set up shop near orifices and exposed wounds so pay attention to those areas.
The vinegar will also help with the smell, if there is one (if you found the maggots after they JUST hatched, about 1 day post-mortem, there might not be a stink yet.)
But you might be past just dealing with a couple maggots. You might be looking at decay. In a cat with all that fur, you're going to notice the rotten smell before any visible symptoms... but when moved, the side towards the ground's going to be wet and gross. Probably ant-y.
First visible symptoms are fur starting to fall off, bloated belly, the eyes might be gone.
Now if you're dealing with that, you're pushing it. It's probably going to be better to get them in the ground quick instead of horrifying the mourners. But okay, let's say it's not SO bad yet that you can't carry them by the scruff anymore...
But let me tell you buddy, if you go to drag them by the scruff and the skin comes off. Give Up! Just Give Up! They are LATE for dirt duty!
But you may be able to bring some of that bloat down with salt to dehydrate them, but you'd need a lot of it. I also hope you have vinegar because you're really going to want to neutralize that smell, especially if you can't spare like half a pound of salt.
Lastly, I wouldn't even JUST gather flowers for this one, crush your herbs up and get a REAL smelly oil. Bathe them in that.
I'd get creative here too, get some fresh plants to cover up anything that's poking out you don't want being seen, like bones or muscle. Bring attention to the parts that you WERE able to restore, or aren't so bad yet. If something important is missing, like a leg or a head, gather up some dirt and cover it in flowers to give the appearance of them still having it.
HalfClan, Moons 1-6
(I'll be doing patrols on each even moon because uh... I want to.)
Moon 1:
Frogpaw becomes a warrior, with Nectarheart as her mentor. Roachheart gives Frogpaw something (blue feathers) as a congratulations. How sweet!
Frogpaw. She is now strange!
Brackentail decides to always carry some catmint around.
Brackentail and her catmint. Are we nervous about something, Brackentail?
Not much else happens. Marigoldpaw and Frogpaw begin to become friends (Frogpaw asks Marigoldpaw how she's doing, while Marigoldpaw talks to Frogpaw about training.)
Cricketstar gets into a small spat with Mousedapple, as well as saying something that rubbed Brackentail the wrong way, but she's also found herself to be really positive to Brackentail.
Additionally, Roachheart tries to make sure Mousedapple is following the warrior code. Mousedapple is just losing this moon.
Moon 2:
Patrol time! I'm sending the apprentices and their mentors out.
On patrol: Nectarfoot (patrol leader), Mousedapple, Marigoldpaw, and Frogpaw.
Although they went out, meaning to patrol the territory and teach the apprentices about different scents, a rabbit bursts out from cover, startled by the patrol. The mentors decide that this is a great opportunity for the apprentices to learn different hunting tactics, and Nectarfoot rallies the patrol nearly instantly. Together, they manage to corner and catch the rabbit!*
End patrol.
Frogpaw and Marigoldpaw go on a walk together! How sweet. I'm glad they're getting along.
Cricketstar finds the way Marigoldpaw acts increasingly uncomfortable. Not sure why she's beefing with a kid, but Roachheart also finds Cricketstar's actions increasingly uncomfortable, and Mousedapple complains about Cricketstar. Hopefully this is growing pains and not a sign of something deeper.
Marigoldpaw saw Jasperstream miss an easy catch, and Jasperstream is worried that he'll never accomplish as much as Alderfur. Poor guy. It's tough going from being a kittypet to a warrior.
Moon 3:
The apprentice friendship continues, as Frogpaw listens to Marigoldpaw talk about how hard training has been. However, Marigoldpaw wishes that she had Frogpaw's mentor instead. :( Mousedapple is trying his best.
Alderfur wishes that Jasperstream won't take his duties more seriously, but Jasperstream makes sure that Marigoldpaw knows they are loved!
It's Turtlerun's time to beef with everyone. I suppose he woke up on the wrong side of the nest. Cricketstar heard a ugly rumor about Turtlerun, spread by either Mousedapple or Alderfur.
Moon 4:
Mousedapple travels to the other clans to bring them an important message about how HalfClan has now fully spread to the edges of the last Clan's territory, and as such they are now ready to go to Gatherings.
Patrol time!
On patrol: Cricketstar, Brackentail, Turtlerun, Jasperstream, and Roachheart
As the medicine cat's patrol goes onto HalfClan territory. Cricketstar tells Brackentail about the dream they had last night, and what the vision could mean for HalfClan. Intrigued, both Brackentail and Jasperstream set about trying to decipher this message. By the time the patrol returns to camp, they have a solid idea of what to do with the information.
End patrol.
Frogpaw catches Marigoldpaw complaining about her behind her back, while Marigoldpaw is reading a bit too far into Frogpaw's kindness. Oh no!
Jasperstream continues to not do a lot of work, while Mousedapple apologizes to Turtlerun for hurting his feelings.
Moon 5:
Cricketstar calls the Clan to a meeting, and declares Marigoldpaw to be a warrior. They are called Marigoldfrost and celebrated for their thoughtfulness.
Marigoldfrost! They are now fierce, as well as an excellent speaker. Guess they learned something from Mousedapple after all!
Just before their ceremony, however, Frogpaw tells Marigold that her pelt looks like it's a different color today. Also, Mousedapple never realized until now how much they love spending time with Marigoldfrost. I guess you never know how good you have it until it's gone.
Moon 6:
Patrol time!
On patrol: Cricketstar, Marigoldfrost, Nectarfoot, and Frogpaw
The patrol goes to mark the border lines, but a gang of rogues bursts from the bushes in an ambush. Marigoldfrost, fierce as she is, leads the patrol in without a second thought, and they drive the rogues away unscathed.
End patrol.
Marigoldfrost, Jasperstream, and Frogpaw have been spending time together recently. Frogpaw shares her prey with Jasperstream, while Marigoldfrost tells him about a hunting technique. However, there are rumors going around-- Jasperstream heard an ugly rumor about Roachheart, while Alderfur caught him in a lie.
***
(Patrol, Moon 2)
*The early spring weather blew a gust of wind through the trees, bringing with it scents from the other Clans. Nectarfoot weaved through the trees, leading the patrol toward their border with QuietClan.
"Now, Frogpaw, what do you smell?" she prompted.
"Hm?" Frogpaw said, snapping back into focus. "Sorry, what was that?" Nectarfoot sighed. "Frogpaw, you'll never become a warrior with your head in the clouds like that. What do you smell?"
"Rabbit," Marigoldpaw said.
"What?" Nectarfoot waved her tail confusedly. "No, it's-"
"She's right!" shouted Mousedapple, startling. "Look!"
From underneath the oak tree, a rabbit exited its warren, thumping its way toward the moor of FlowerClan's territory. Nectarfoot laid eyes on it, shouting instantly, "Marigoldpaw! Frogpaw! Get in front of it!"
The two apprentices leapt into action, splitting up around the trees and outspeeding the rabbit. Mousedapple and Nectarfoot worked alongside each other as though they had done it for moons, matching pawstep to pawstep as they ran the rabbit into the apprentices. Marigoldpaw lunged for the kill, snapping the rabbit's neck.
"Good job, everyone!" Nectarfoot panted, her eyes glowing as she looked at the patrol. "Well done!"
“Rowankit was always content to be snuggled up to my belly. I know I'll still reach for him in my sleep. I just can't believe he's gone." Dovewing about Rowankit at his vigil
Rowankit from A Starless Clan. Rowankit is the son of Dovewing and Tigerstar(heart) and the brother of Birchkit, Shadowsight, Lightleap and Pouncestep. He is announced to be born in the book River and suspected to be named after Rowanstar, Tigerstar’s father. In Sky, Rowankit develops the sniffles which quickly develops into green-cough. When ShadowClan have barely any catmint to heal him, they go to the other clans to ask for help only to find them in a similar predicament. This leads Tigerstar to make a patrol to go collect some more and while they do find some, the trip is vain as Rowankit died before they returned. Later on, Fidgetflake finds some forgotten catmint in RiverClan which later leads to Tigerstar taking the clan over. Dovewing talks fondly of Rowankit, saying she’ll miss him dearly and expects she’ll still reach out for him in night as she can’t believe he’s gone. (Info gained from the wiki)
I promise I’m not weighted the wheel I don’t know why I’m getting so many Starless Clan cats pleaseeeeeeeeeeee But anyways can the authors let a woman in these books win? Once? Dovewing has been THROUGH IT. Is she happy in the books? All I can imagine is her being so tired.
Putting that aside I’m really happy with this design. I like how rotund they are. Truly a baby. Little Yippee creature.
I do commissions! Dm me for more info!
