My favorite trope will always, ALWAYS be mind control fighting. Like when Person A is being mind controlled by whatever source and is forced to try to hurt Person B. But Person B will do everything in their power not to hurt Person A.

Bonus points if they come out of it at the last second right before they kill Person B

Tropes part 1

Mind controlled Whumpee

TW: captive whump, wounds, mentions of torture, mentions of forced self harm, stress positions, hypnosis, helplessness

Losing hours of their time, not being to remember most of their day and unbearable headache not helping

Additionally, bruises, cuts and other wounds appearing on their body without any explanation and without a way to stop them from happening

Trying different things, buying cameras, new locks or even trackers, but they all cut off when the switch happens

Waking up panicked, scared and shaking, not in a place or clothes they went to sleep in

Despite all the precaution, it doesn’t stop

Differently, hypnosis used as a punishment or a reward with a captive Whumpee 

With their freedom gone, the only thing left is their thoughts, they would hate losing it above anything else

They beg to be tortured since the alternative is worse, they rather feel pain than lose their autonomy

Whumper still using the hypnosis on them and when it’s done the Whumpee wakes up from the fog and cries, giving up, since there's nothing of them left anymore

In comparing, using hypnosis as a reward, a panic disappears and the Whumpee’s body relaxes for a first time in a long time, finally their body no longer aches

When they wake up and pain returns it hits harder, and soon they start to beg to be put under again

Another scenario is Whumpee being conscious under hypnosis, them remembering everything and their head clear

Not being able to move when the Whumper tortures them, not even as a reaction to pain

Being forced to hurt themselves, their body not hesitating but their thoughts screaming, trying their hardest to stop themselves but failing, maybe managing to twitch before they body carries out the order

Being forced into stress positions without any bindings, just standing for hours, being bored but not being able to do anything other than think, feeling all the strain on their body but not being able to give up until eventually, after hours it collapses on itself

Think of a whumpee sort-of-turned-whumper that is forced to hurt someone else.

The person being controlled is stuck watching their body do things they never would, and even if they're not conscious during it- waking up and having no idea what you did in the past hours/days/months is nothing short of jarring if it's not something you're used to or expect.

And then imagine the hurt in everyone else's eyes when they look at them. Because even if they knew that whumpee wasn't in control, it was still their hands, their voice, their face. Rationally, it's easy to know they didn't do anything wrong, but it's still impossible not to flinch when they get close.

Turning Purple by Lizardstuff | 48,123 [ON-GOING]

Donnie slowly gets more and more sick post rise movie and the rest of the characters must find out what’s wrong and find a cure. THIS ONE’S FOR YOU, MEDICAL NERDS. Author has done research and any inaccuracies have gone over this EMT’s head. I reread this one every chapter update and every time I’m haunted by “the blueberry french toast paragraph” No I will not explain further, go read it.

MY TOP FIC RECOMMENDATION

Spider's Web with Strings Attached by CurlySwirly | 125,661 [ON-GOING]

Donnie and Leo get kidnapped and are forced to fight in the battle nexus. This is my pick for the most well written fanfic and most in canon characterization with ALL the characters. You will HEAR the characters not just through the dialogue but also through the writing itself. As the reader, you will be beaten down and have your heart crushed mercilessly which makes the pay off the most rewarding, satisfying experience that I've personally ever felt with a fanfic. This fic lives in my head rent free and I think about it at least once a day. It is my all time favorite rise fic and I highly recommend it.
