WE DID IT YALL
it's crazy to think a small stadium's worth of people follow me and are interested in the things i post. i guess that's just the power of hurt/comfort babee!!
as i said a few days ago, i'm thinking of going and finding a request post and opening requests. partially to loosen up my writer's block but also as a distraction from. Recent Events(TM)
unfortunately, since i am nearing the end of the semester, i am piling up quite a few important tests and reports that need to be studied for and/or turned in, and i'm already procrastinating shit due to my shiny hunting addiction lmao so it might Be A While
BUT i do plan to have something out before the year ends! perhaps something like i take requests over the holidays and then post them over new years as like a symbolic "fresh start" type of deal
regardless of my ramblings, i appreciate all of you so much: those who have been here since the beginning, those who only showed up recently, and those who have come and gone, just know that i love each and every one of you in this community, and i hope to see you keep whumping even in these trying times <3

what about a scenario where a character is stuck in some kind of dream-state where they're living a completely different life a la everything-they-ever-wanted-type universe, and the longer they stay stuck the closer and closer they get to death because whatever is keeping them stuck is draining their life force etc etc
what about their friends and family working tirelessly to break them out, only for it to all be for naught because the character breaks out themself, and when they're asked how they managed to see through the lies, the character admits that it felt too good to be true purely because they didn't feel like they deserved such a nice life
what then, huh?!?
#something about the fact that their self-loathing is so inherent/intense that it feels weird to not feel it#whump#whump trope#self esteem issues#no comfort#technically within the realm of this post#~my stuff~

whumper pushing whumpee to the ground, ordering them to get back up, and kicking them back down each time they try. repeat as many times as you like. especially w whumper getting more snippy each time.
“i said get up” while they’re making it physically impossible
physically and mentally exhausting them in addition to hurting them. forcing whumpee to participate in their own abuse.
#whump trope#no comfort#torture#SO REAL. its esp juicy if theres someone in the background screaming at them#about how obv unfair it is. give them a break etc etc#and whumper is very much not listening. not even giving them the time of day#and whumpee now has an extra layer of stress on top of the situation in the form the knowledge that theyre being watched#it adds to the humiliation factor in a way. sorry for the rambling op this is a trope ive imagined a lot 🙏🙏🙏

I love a character raised to be a weapon as much as the next guy. But what really gets me is a character raised to be a shield. Who can’t fathom being needed—or even being wanted— beyond keeping others safe. Who believe they are alive only to insure someone doesn’t die. no matter the cost. Characters who self-sacrifice not because they think they deserve it, but because no one else does deserve it, and it’s their job to protect.
Characters who’ve been told that’s why your important. Your worth something because this other person/ thing is important, and you are here solely to keep them safe.
Bonus points if it’s not a legitimate job they’ve been given. Maybe at one point it was, but now that they are free from it, they haven’t given up that mentality. No one is forcing or asking them to do this, but they need to. They need to in order to be deserving.
#whump trope#no comfort#self esteem issues#ellen#to a less dramatic extent and in a different flavor#merek

two characters cuddling on the couch watching TV. despite the calmness of their surroundings, the show playing on the screen like normal as if nothing were wrong, they're both tense as brick walls. one is sick as a dog, wrapped in blankets, waiting for it to be over, and the other is worried out of their mind about how high that fever keeps getting, ready to load into the car and book it to the nearest hospital at the drop of a hat if need be. the tension only fades when the shivers of the ill one slowly die off, indicating the fever breaking after a hard battle won, the sickness finally leaving them so they can rest properly
#brother help me i am still fucking sick <- has only been sick for two to three days and is aware it lasts like a week#whump#whump trope#illness#fever#worry#cuddling#blankets#~my stuff~

#whump poll#big fan of horror lol. not always but i will absolutely eat up a good horror story when im feeling it#esp if the stort is like. psychological horror. there's an aspect where the character starts to question how much is really happening#and how much is exacerbated by their mind/nightmares/outside stressors >:]

i've noticed a common generic idea beneath my fave stories
#self esteem issues#fiction tropes#siblings#~my stuff~#the best part is all the ways you can spice this up#is it said in a self-deprecating/depressed way? is it said with resentment and snark?#is it said one way to cover up the fact they mean it the other way?#younger sibling thinking theyll never match up to perfect older sibling? older sibling thinking younger sibling is a 'do-over baby'?#twins where its believed one is 'more behaved' than the other?#maybe theres even more than two siblings that are all angry and resentful toward each other#do the siblings come together to reconcile and realize these expectations are bullshit and/or their parent(s) is a dick?#or is it tragic and they go to their graves forever thinking they were a blight upon their family name?#AND THEN THE PARENT OR PARENTS#are they alive & encouraging this? do they not realize they are putting these expectations on their kids and try to fix it when they learn?#or are they dead and their kids are simply ~thinking~ this is what their parents thought?#if the parent(s) try to fix it do the siblings work with them to become a family again? or is that trust forever broken?#i am NOT tagging the mainline fandoms for this post if it breaches containment it will do so NATURALLY like GOD INTENDED#i will tag my ocs tho#ellen#merek

For those who don't know or care about the olympics, Laurie won gold and silver in gymnastics at the 2016 olympics. She's now a commentator for gymnastics at the olympics and is a treasure.

one of my fave whump tropes is when whump is done in a sort of roundabout way, i.e., when the "whumpee" isn't the injured party in the story. hear me out on this:
a character sporting some form of bruise/injury as they reassure their loved one that this isn't their fault, they shouldn't beat themselves up over [trope where loved one wasn't thinking straight or wasn't in control of themselves, something like a nightmare/PTSD or outright brainwashing]. the loved one simply refuses to let it go, so the character is forced to bring them into a hug and patiently wait for the loved one to release the tension in their shoulders and hug them back. the loved one slowly forgives themself as the bruise fades/injury heals
a character sitting in a hospital lobby on the brink of dissociating, ignoring the weird looks they're getting due to the blood covering nearly every part of the front of their clothes after to rushing their loved one to the medics, freaking out about whether or not their efforts were good enough to get there in time. showering as they clean themselves of filth and grime but reluctantly doing so because what if a nurse comes looking for them to tell them about the state of their loved one? they can sit there for a few more minutes, and then a few more, maybe little bit more... they're fine, they can take care of themself when they know their loved one is already taken care of, definitely... only for all of their worry and self-flagellation to culminate in being in their loved one's hospital room as they wake up, leading to the loved one hugging them as they cry and break down, joking that a little injury like this couldn't take them out; thanking the character for saving their life, etc
a character needing to be coached through helping their loved one out with an injury or dire situation. whether it's the loved one themself or a third party that's doing the coaching, it's obvious that the character is in over their head but that they still need to do this if their loved one has any hope of surviving until tomorrow. brownie points if the process involves unintentionally bringing more harm to their loved one (like disinfecting a wound or doing stitches without pain meds), which just exponentially ramps up the guilt factor even more. this scenario can sort of end similarly to the second bullet point, but regardless, the main closing scene is about the loved one being there to tell the character that they should be proud of themselves for keeping themself together even though it had to have been really scary seeing them like that, how brave the character was for pushing through to save them, comforting hugs all around~
mututal whump my beloved!! the more characters that are hurting either physically or emotionally the better!!!!
