idc what the context is, characters going "shhh, shhh" and "it's going to be okay" with the softest voice imaginable to another character in the middle of a breakdown ALWAYS makes me go !!!!
#when that character is holding them in their arms and resting their chin on the top of their head i go even more !!!!!!#something about the character physically making sure the character in a breakdown is safe from the outside world#promising to protect them for whatever comes next by keeping them wrapped in their hold#i might be yearning rn what about it ajsfknssdsf#whump trope#protectiveness#crying#~my stuff~

whumpees being used as decoration, surrounded by enemies:
handcuffed to a chair in the middle of a room where a business meeting is taking place.
dressed in black tie, and then tied and gagged at the head of the table as whumper conducts a fancy dinner party.
pinned to a wall of an office or living room or private study like a butterfly under a case, hands impaled and bleeding freely.
left to dangle from their wrists in a public location, under an arch or a stairway maybe.
kept in a hanging cage in a trophy room amidst the tokens of whumper's previous conquests.
chained to the foot of a throne, forced to kneel at all times, a permanent reminder of whumper's absolute power over both them and the realm they just won.
lugged around to wherever Whumper happens to want to take them, led to parties or events via a leash attached to a collar, hands bound behind their back so they can't even brace their fall if Whumper tugs too hard.
left overnight in a public place, tied to a fencepost or dangling from a tree branch. everyone knows exactly who left them there, and who they belong to, and so no one would dare touch them to help.
tied up and used as a human dartboard in some seedy beer hall.
restrained in a brutally demanding stress position and left to wobble and pant and squirm in a lobby or entrance of some underground organization as a reminder of what happens to anyone who tries to doublecross the boss.
the helplessness of any of these positions, of being poked and prodded by passersby or henchmen, especially people who whumpee has had the upper hand against in the past. now reduced to just sitting/standing there and being left at the mercy of whoever walks by.
#whump trope#no comfort#kidnapping#captivity#tied up#that left in a public place overnight is scratching my brain rly nicely rn

writing advice for characters with a missing eye: dear God does losing an eyes function fuck up your neck. Ever since mine crapped out I've been slowly and unconsciously shifting towards holding my head at an angle to put the good eye closer to the center. and human necks. are not meant to accommodate that sorta thing.

gentle caretakers who holds whumpee close to their chests, cradles whumpee’s head in their laps, tuck whumpees safely in their arms. murmuring soft shhhs and it’s okays under their breath as they keep pressure on bleeding wounds, as they coax whumpee to stay awake, as they pray the team makes it on time.
whether they stay calm without a sign of worry or tremble with fear at the possibility of losing whumpee, they remain whumpee’s only source of comfort until help can arrive.

E.g. being drawn to parental caretaker types to fill a void left by IRL parental figures. I'm currently coping with a realization about my caretaker preferences haha whoops

10 Non-Lethal Injuries to Add Pain to Your Writing
If you need a simple way to make your characters feel pain, here are some ideas:
1. Sprained Ankle
A common injury that can severely limit mobility. This is useful because your characters will have to experience a mild struggle and adapt their plans to their new lack of mobiliy. Perfect to add tension to a chase scene.
2. Rib Contusion
A painful bruise on the ribs can make breathing difficult, helping you sneak in those ragged wheezes during a fight scene. Could also be used for something sport-related! It's impactful enough to leave a lingering pain but not enough to hinder their overall movement.
3. Concussions
This common brain injury can lead to confusion, dizziness, and mood swings, affecting a character’s judgment heavily. It can also cause mild amnesia.
I enjoy using concussions when you need another character to subtly take over the fight/scene, it's an easy way to switch POVs. You could also use it if you need a 'cute' recovery moment with A and B.
4. Fractured Finger
A broken finger can complicate tasks that require fine motor skills. This would be perfect for characters like artists, writers, etc. Or, a fighter who brushes it off as nothing till they try to throw a punch and are hit with pain.
5. Road Rash
Road rash is an abrasion caused by friction. Aka scraping skin. The raw, painful sting resulting from a fall can be a quick but effective way to add pain to your writing. Tip: it's great if you need a mild injury for a child.
6. Shoulder Dislocation
This injury can be excruciating and often leads to an inability to use one arm, forcing characters to confront their limitations while adding urgency to their situation. Good for torture scenes.
7. Deep Laceration
A deep laceration is a cut that requires stitches. As someone who got stitches as a kid, they really aren't that bad! A 2-3 inch wound (in length) provides just enough pain and blood to add that dramatic flair to your writing while not severely deterring your character.
This is also a great wound to look back on since it often scars. Note: the deeper and wider the cut the worse your character's condition. Don't give them a 5 inch deep gash and call that mild.
8. Burns
Whether from fire, chemicals, or hot surfaces, burns can cause intense suffering and lingering trauma. Like the previous injury, the lasting physical and emotional trauma of a burn is a great wound for characters to look back on.
If you want to explore writing burns, read here.
9. Pulled Muscle
This can create ongoing pain and restrict movement, offering a window to force your character to lean on another. Note: I personally use muscle related injuries when I want to focus more on the pain and sprains to focus on a lack of mobility.
10. Tendonitis
Inflammation of a tendon can cause chronic pain and limit a character's ability to perform tasks they usually take for granted. When exploring tendonitis make sure you research well as this can easily turn into a more severe injury.
This is a quick, brief list of ideas to provide writers inspiration. Since it is a shorter blog, I have not covered the injuries in detail. This is inspiration, not a thorough guide. Happy writing! :)

WE DID IT YALL
it's crazy to think a small stadium's worth of people follow me and are interested in the things i post. i guess that's just the power of hurt/comfort babee!!
as i said a few days ago, i'm thinking of going and finding a request post and opening requests. partially to loosen up my writer's block but also as a distraction from. Recent Events(TM)
unfortunately, since i am nearing the end of the semester, i am piling up quite a few important tests and reports that need to be studied for and/or turned in, and i'm already procrastinating shit due to my shiny hunting addiction lmao so it might Be A While
BUT i do plan to have something out before the year ends! perhaps something like i take requests over the holidays and then post them over new years as like a symbolic "fresh start" type of deal
regardless of my ramblings, i appreciate all of you so much: those who have been here since the beginning, those who only showed up recently, and those who have come and gone, just know that i love each and every one of you in this community, and i hope to see you keep whumping even in these trying times <3

what about a scenario where a character is stuck in some kind of dream-state where they're living a completely different life a la everything-they-ever-wanted-type universe, and the longer they stay stuck the closer and closer they get to death because whatever is keeping them stuck is draining their life force etc etc
what about their friends and family working tirelessly to break them out, only for it to all be for naught because the character breaks out themself, and when they're asked how they managed to see through the lies, the character admits that it felt too good to be true purely because they didn't feel like they deserved such a nice life
what then, huh?!?
#something about the fact that their self-loathing is so inherent/intense that it feels weird to not feel it#whump#whump trope#self esteem issues#no comfort#technically within the realm of this post#~my stuff~

whumper pushing whumpee to the ground, ordering them to get back up, and kicking them back down each time they try. repeat as many times as you like. especially w whumper getting more snippy each time.
“i said get up” while they’re making it physically impossible
physically and mentally exhausting them in addition to hurting them. forcing whumpee to participate in their own abuse.
#whump trope#no comfort#torture#SO REAL. its esp juicy if theres someone in the background screaming at them#about how obv unfair it is. give them a break etc etc#and whumper is very much not listening. not even giving them the time of day#and whumpee now has an extra layer of stress on top of the situation in the form the knowledge that theyre being watched#it adds to the humiliation factor in a way. sorry for the rambling op this is a trope ive imagined a lot 🙏🙏🙏

I love a character raised to be a weapon as much as the next guy. But what really gets me is a character raised to be a shield. Who can’t fathom being needed—or even being wanted— beyond keeping others safe. Who believe they are alive only to insure someone doesn’t die. no matter the cost. Characters who self-sacrifice not because they think they deserve it, but because no one else does deserve it, and it’s their job to protect.
Characters who’ve been told that’s why your important. Your worth something because this other person/ thing is important, and you are here solely to keep them safe.
Bonus points if it’s not a legitimate job they’ve been given. Maybe at one point it was, but now that they are free from it, they haven’t given up that mentality. No one is forcing or asking them to do this, but they need to. They need to in order to be deserving.
