Milla Jovovich is an American model and actress who is best known for her work in The Fifth Element and The Messenger: Joan of Arc. She’s also appeared in Two Moon Junction (1988), Zoolander (2001), Resident Evil (2002), Dirty Girl (2010), The Three Musketeers (2011) and Married… with Children (1989).

Jovovich was born in Kiev, Ukraine and was the daughter of a Russian actress. In 1980, aged 5, she and her family left the Soviet Union and emigrated to London and then to Los Angeles. Her mother attempted to get work as an actress in California but resorted to working as a housekeeper. Her father was imprisoned for his involvement in the largest health-insurance fraud and was given a 20-year sentence in 1994, he was released in 1999 after serving five years. Jovovich attended school in America and learned to speak English, during school she was bullied and called a ‘commie’ and a ‘Russian spy’. She left school aged 12 and became a model and a US citizen aged 19.

Jovovich has been married three times and has three children. She married her first husband when she was 16 to a man aged 21, her mother had the marriage annulled. She was in a relationship with Jamiroquai bassist Stuart Zender in 1994-1995. She married controversial director Luc Besson in 1997 in Los Angeles, he is known in Hollywood for having an interest in young women (girls). They divorced in 2000, and she got involved with guitarist John Frusciante, the guitarist from Red Hot Chili Peppers. She married director Paul W. S. Anderson in 2009.

During the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Russo-Ukrainian War, Jovovich supports Ukraine.
