This first story has been out for a few days. File under “Our Democracy”. This election was decided by Moldovans living abroad”—which provided ample opportunity for the pro-EU forces to put democray into practice:
Glenn Diesen @Glenn_Diesen
The election results in Moldova reveal why EU integration will be a disaster for the country:
50.16% are in favor of EU membership and 49.84% are against, with pro-EU votes from abroad pushing Moldova barely over the 50% limit
In the autonomous region of Gagauzia, 95% voted against EU integration. Forcing this region into the EU will destabilise Moldova and fuel secessionist sentiments
Bloc politics is destructive to deeply divided societies, and will undermine democracy as Sandu uses authoritarian means to push the country towards the EU
This could repeat the Ukrainian scenario, where the pro-Russians in Eastern Ukraine were being forced into an anti-Russian bloc

Moon of Alabama had very thorough coverage a few days ago—excerpt:
"Democracy" in Moldova
In 1990 Moldovia had 4.5 million inhabitants. This is down to 2.5. to 3 million today, of which nearly a million are living abroad.
Abroad is also where a real vote on a referendum would be decided. And abroad is where the manipulation of yesterday's vote took place.
…
Former British ambassador Craig Murray watched the vote:
Craig Murray @CraigMurrayOrg - 14:39 UTC · Oct 21, 2024
Moldova's rigged EU referendum "voted in favour" of joining the EU by 50.4% to 49.6%.
No led until the last minute when 180,000 votes from Moldovans living in the EU were added in at a claimed 90% Yes.
While allegedly only 5% of the 300,000 Moldovans living in Russia voted!
Why didn't more of those Moldovans who are living in Russia go to vote? The Russian Ambassador in Vienna explains:
Mikhail Ulyanov @Amb_Ulyanov - 14:00 UTC · Oct 21, 2024
Moldovan authorities opened only two polling stations in Moscow for 400,000 Moldovan citizens living in Russia (instead of 17 in the past). And someone calls the current Moldovan authorities “democratic”? Gross manipulation of elections and referendum on #EU membership.
Apparently the hot rumor was that an Iranian American at the Pentagon was the prime suspect in the leak case. The Pentagon has denied that:
Rashid Khan INC @RashidKhan1515
The statement from the Pentagon, as reflected in various reports, confirms that Ariane Tabatabai is not a subject of interest in the FBI's investigation into the leak of classified documents related to Israel's potential military actions against Iran. This clarification directly addresses and refutes claims by Sky News Arabia which suggested Tabatabai was under investigation for the leak
9:28 PM · Oct 22, 2024
From the JPost:
"The Pentagon denied that Ariane Tabatabai, Chief of Staff of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Ops, is a subject of interest in the investigation for the alleged leak of classified documents pertaining to Israel's plans for a retaliatory attack against Iran."
Who would have had an interest in fingering a supposed “Iranian agent”? Then again, who would have had an interest in claiming Iran is plotting to assassinate Trump? Funny how these rumors of Iranian aggression, sabotage, and terrorism against the US keep popping up. And speaking of Trump …

Telegram founder Pavel Durov arrested at France’s airport
Pavel Durov, billionaire, co-founder and CEO of messenger Telegram, faced arrest at Bourget airport near Paris on Saturday night.
The 39-year-old entrepreneur, born in Russia, resides in Dubai, where Telegram is based, and holds dual citizenship of France and the United Arab Emirates, reportedly arrested on the warrant for offences related to the popular messaging app. He will appear in court on Sunday. France’s interior ministry and police had no comment.
Durov was flying aboard his private jet from Azerbaijan, TV channel TF1 said on its website, adding that he was arrested in France at 6:00 p.m. on a warrant as part of a preliminary police investigation.
TF1 and BFM believe the investigation centred on a shortage of moderators on Telegram. Police suppose that this situation allowed criminal activity to continue unhindered on the messaging app, as the use of the social network led to the messenger being used for money laundering, drug trafficking and the distribution of paedophilic content.
France’s Justice Ministry (OFMIN), the agency tasked with preventing violence against minors, in turn issued the arrest warrant for Durov as part of a preliminary investigation into alleged crimes including fraud, drug trafficking, cyberbullying, organised crime and terrorist propaganda, a source close to the case said. “Enough of Telegram’s impunity,” said one of the investigators.
Telegram is considered one of the major social media platforms after Facebook, YouTube, WhatsApp, Instagram, TikTok and Wechat and has about a billion users, particularly influential in Russia, Ukraine and the former Soviet Union. However, Telegram’s growing popularity around the world has drawn scrutiny from several countries in Europe, including France, due to security concerns and data leaks.
Russia’s representative to international organisations in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov, and several other Russian politicians on Sunday accused France of restricting freedom of speech. This contrasts particularly with the stance of the European Union, which regularly criticises free speech bans in other countries. The Russian Embassy in France is taking “immediate steps” to clarify the situation, Russia’s state-run TASS news agency reported.
Elon Musk, US tech entrepreneur and owner of X, reacted to Durov’s detention by posting a message on his official account, also questioning freedom of speech in the European Union: “It’s 2030 in Europe and you’re being executed for liking a meme.”
Pavel Durov himself has repeatedly said that some governments have tried to pressure him, but the app should remain a ‘neutral platform’ and not a ‘player in geopolitics’.
“I would rather be free than to take orders from anyone,” Durov told US journalist Tucker Carlson in April about his exit from Russia and search for a home for his company which included stints in Berlin, London, Singapore and San Francisco. Forbes estimates the entrepreneur’s fortune at $15.5 billion.

"Democracy" in Moldova
Yesterday's election and referendum in Moldova again demonstrate how little respect the official 'West' has for the holy grail called 'democracy'.
Moldova backs joining EU by razor-thin margin as president condemns ‘assault’ on democracy - CNN
Moldovans have voted by the thinnest of margins in favor of joining the European Union, near-complete results showed Monday, as President Maia Sandu condemned an “unprecedented assault” by foreign actors on the country’s democracy. With more than 99% of votes counted, 50.4% had voted “yes” in the pivotal referendum on whether to enshrine in the country’s constitution a path towards the EU, according to the Central Election Commission.
In 1990 Moldovia had 4.5 million inhabitants. This is down to 2.5. to 3 million today, of which nearly a million are living abroad.
Abroad is also where a real vote on a referendum would be decided. And abroad is where the manipulation of yesterday's vote took place.
These were the result before the votes of those who live abroad were counted in:
Europe Elects @EuropeElects - 5:50 UTC · Oct 21, 2024 Moldova, EU membership referendum: 98.8% counted The difference is for 744 votes for In favor Against: 50% In favor: 50%

No 'Western' media will inform the public about this manipulation which l might well lead to an outcome that the majority of Moldovans oppose.

COMIC BOOK REFERENCES & EASTER EGGS - Black Widow (2021)
The following is a guide to all the comic book references and Easter eggs I’ve spotted in Black Widow along with any deviations from the source material. Note that owing to the convoluted and complex nature of comic books, I’ve tried to include only the most essential information regarding a character’s history and backstories.
The comic book incarnation of Natasha Romanoff became an orphan at a young age, unlike her cinematic counterpart who was sold off by her parents. In the source material, her mother hands over an infant Natasha to Ivan Petrovitch Bezukhov, a Soviet soldier, before perishing in the burning building she’s trapped in. In both the film and the comics, Natasha does not know her biological mother’s name. The white suit Natasha wears in the movie originates from the comics, being something she first wore in Black Widow: Deadly Origin #2 (2009).
In the film, it’s reiterated that Black Widows are forced to undergo hysterectomies to ensure they never become pregnant. Similarly, in the comics Black Widow agents are altered biochemically. While it grants them enhanced healing, it also causes their immune system to attack any foetuses that may develop, resulting in miscarriage.
Before her confrontation with Dreykov, Melina tells Natasha how he has implemented pheromonal locks in his Black Widows, meaning that if they can smell him, they are unable to harm him. In Black Widow #6 (2005), it’s revealed that Black Widow agents are incapable of harming any person that has a specially developed biochemical scent applied. This was developed by Red Room member Lyudmila Kudrin and was implemented as a form of control. In the same issue, Natasha’s nose is broken during a fight, disrupting her sense of smell, enabling her to attack Vassily Ilyich Ulyanov.
In both media, Yelena Belova trained at the Red Room to become a Black Widow. Like her predecessor, Natasha, she is a skilled combatant and experienced in using various weapons.
The comic book incarnation of Melina Vostokoff, also known as the Iron Maiden, is a Russian espionage agent with a hatred of Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow. She wears a metal costume that protects her and increases her physical strength.
In the comics, Alexei Shostakov was a former test pilot and the second person to become Red Guardian, the Soviet’s equivalent of Captain America. Unlike Captain America, however, Red Guardian only has the durability and strength of a normal human (his MCU counterpart appears to have been given a version of the Super-Solder serum). While the film depicts Alexei as Natasha’s adoptive father, in the source material the pair were husband and wife. Additionally, although the Red Guardian has yet to clash with Captain America in the MCU, the pair have fought in the comics, doing so in The Avengers #44 (1967).
During a conversation, Yelena mistakenly calls Alexei the Crimson Dynamo. In the source material, the Crimson Dynamo is an identity used by several Russian characters, all of whom wear red-coloured armour. The first person to use the alias was Anton Vanko, who made his first appearance in Tales of Suspense #46 (1963).
In the MCU, the North Institute was a cover for S.H.I.E.L.D./Hydra scientists who were creating a cellular blueprint of the basal ganglia (the part of the brain responsible for motor control). In the comic books, the North Institute was an organisation that hunted down Black Widows on behalf of the cosmetics company Gynacon. Gynacon had purchased Black Widow biotech from 2R (the Red Room’s new trading name) and wanted Black Widows—who had the technology administered to them during their training—eliminated as a way of protecting their stock prices.
The comic book incarnation of Rick Mason goes by the codename “Agent” and is the son of Phineas Mason/Tinkerer. His cinematic counterpart is an ally of Natasha’s and doesn’t appear to have many similarities to his comic counterpart aside from his name.
In the comics, Tony Masters/Taskmaster was born with photographic reflexes enabling him to replicate the physical movements of others. He is usually depicted carrying an arsenal of weapons including a sword, a circular shield (mimicking Captain America’s fighting style), as well as a bow and arrows (akin to Hawkeye). The cinematic incarnation of the character has been gender swapped, and is the alias of Antonia Dreykov. Antonia’s mimicry abilities, however, stem from technological enhancements given to her by her father. The blue and orange costume with a skull-like mask and hood she wears are trademarks of the character from the comic books.
During his time in prison, Alexei arm-wrestles with a man named Ursa. This could be a reference to Mikhail Ursus/Ursa Major, who in the comic books is a Russian mutant with the ability to transform into a bear.
There are also several MCU Easter eggs. There’s Thaddeus Ross mentioning that Natasha assaulted the King of Wakanda (which we saw in Captain America: Civil War). We find out what Clint and Natasha were doing in Budapest (first mentioned in The Avengers) as well as what Loki was referring to when he mentioned Dreykov’s daughter (also from The Avengers). Yelena brings up Thor, referring to him as the “god from space.” Natasha is given Yelena’s vest and dyes her hair blonde, a look we see Natasha sport in Avengers: Infinity War. Valentina Allegra de Fontaine makes an appearance in the post-credits scene (the character having made her MCU debut in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier).

(A drone is launched during a large-scale drone combat exercise of Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in Semnan, Iran January 4, 2021. Picture taken January 4, 2021
The drone Israel shot down near the border with Jordan on Tuesday was Iranian, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Thursday.
“While we were busy fighting, a few days ago, Iran sent an armed drone into Israel from Iraq or Syria,” Netanyahu told German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas, who was in Jerusalem. “Iranian forces launched an armed drone, which our forces shot down at the border between Israel and Jordan.
“I think that says everything about the real patron of terror in the Middle East and the world – Iran,” Netanyahu added, showing Maas a piece of the drone.
The IDF shot down a drone that was approaching the Israeli-Jordanian border, traveling toward the Emek HaMa'ayanot Regional Council in northern Israel, on Tuesday.
IDF units collected the fragments of the destroyed aircraft for further examination.
At the time, residents of Beit She'an - which sits within the regional council - were instructed to lock themselves in their homes for nearly an hour, before the IDF announced that the area had been secured, and that it was again safe for people to leave their homes.
Netanyahu said he described to Maas how Israel is fighting on multiple fronts, and that Iran is behind all of them.
“Not only does Iran totally support Islamic Jihad in Gaza and give it all its funding, it also gives weapons to Hamas and Hezbollah,” he stated. “They provide the infrastructure on which terrorist organizations depend.” Iranian Quds Force Commander Sardar Ismail Qaani wrote a letter of support to Hamas's Qassam Brigades Commander Mohammed Dief this week, according to Iranian news site Khabar Online. Qaani wrote that Dief was "faithful to your promise to the enemy. The usurper tasted the fear, defeat and humiliation... This war has ushered in a new phase in the battle with the enemy...The equation is that the enemy cannot isolate Quds [Jerusalem] without receiving a tough response." World powers continued negotiations with Iran in Vienna throughout the time that Hamas and other Gazan terrorist groups rained rockets on Israel with Iranian material support. The goal of the negotiations is for Iran to return to compliance with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, as the 2015 nuclear deal is known, and for the US to lift sanctions placed on Iran since 2018. Russian Ambassador to International Organizations in Vienna Mikhail Ulyanov tweeted photos from ongoing talks with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi on Wednesday, and on Thursday said that, while negotiations for Iran to return to the JCPOA would not be completed by their May 21 target date, "the talks will continue until successful outcome." Enrique Mora, the EU official leading indirect talks between the US and Iran, said Wednesday that he was confident talks were “on the right track” and a deal will be reached as a fourth round of negotiations adjourned. However, diplomats from Britain, France and Germany, known as the E3, were more reserved in their assessments of the talks’ progress, saying “there are still some very difficult issues ahead.”
Maas, Czech Foreign Minister Jakub Kulhanek and Slovakian Foreign Minister Ivan Korčok paid a solidarity visit to the region, as Operation Guardian of the Walls continued on Thursday.
“Germany stands with Israel and its right to defend itself,” Maas said ahead of a meeting with Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi. “I came to Israel to show solidarity and support Israel after the rocket fire from Gaza. Israel has the right to defend itself.”
“Israel’s security and that of the Jewish residents here are not negotiable,” he stated.
Maas added that he has been following the humanitarian situation in Gaza with great concern, but that he is aware of Israeli efforts to bring humanitarian aid to the coastal enclave.
In recent days, Hamas twice shelled humanitarian aid convoys from Israel into Gaza, killing two civilians and injuring 10, according to the Foreign Ministry.
Maas also said that Germany supports efforts to bring about a ceasefire, and that he has been in contact with the US, Egypt and others towards that aim.
“We need to look to the future and make sure there is sustainable peace in the region that allows for a situation in which Israelis and Palestinians can live here with self-determination. The current situation is one of uncertainty that only serves to strengthen those who spread hate and terror,” Maas stated.
Maas met with Ashkenazi, who also accompanied him to Petah Tikva to see a home that was destroyed by a Hamas rocket and receive a security briefing from Home Front Command commander Maj.-Gen. Ori Gorodin.
Soon after, Kulhanek and Korčok visited the same house.
Kulhanek said he was “speechless” after seeing the destruction terrorism against Israel has wrought.
“In these days, Israel needs its friends in the world, and we are here to show strong friendship,” he stated. “The Czech Republic proudly waved an Israeli flag over its government institutions as a sign of identification with and support for Israel. Israel has the full right to defend itself.”
Korčok said that Israel and Slovakia are “true friends,” and that he is in Israel to show the power of that friendship.
“Hamas shooting must stop. Israel has the right to defend itself,” he said.
Ashkenazi thanked the foreign ministers for their countries’ support, and said that raising an Israeli flag over the Czech Foreign Ministry and Bratislava’s City Hall is “heartwarming and cannot be taken for granted.”
Asheknazi explained that the current round of fighting is different from the past: “Hamas’s missile attack on Israel broke out following a brutal attempt by Hamas to strengthen its political status and take over the Palestinian agenda and Palestinian Authority leadership.
“Hamas chose to do this through terrorist attacks and shooting missiles and rockets at Israeli civilians in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and the south. [Hamas] is doing this from populated areas, in backyards and schools, while using residents of Gaza as human shields. Hamas is committing a double war crime,” he said.
Ashkenazi pointed out that Hamas rockets have destroyed electric lines into Gaza, and then Hamas shot at Israeli Electric Company staff that tried to fix them.
“This is another example of how Hamas harms the population of Gaza and cynically takes advantage of its distress,” Ashkenazi said.
Maas also met with Defense Minister Benny Gantz, who updated him on developments in the fighting against Hamas and progress towards the goal of attaining long-term quiet and security for Israelis.
The German foreign minister also plans to meet with President Reuven Rivlin and will go to Ramallah to meet Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Mohammed Shtayyeh. He plans to return to Germany on Thursday.
