JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA (vol. 1) #92 (September, 1971). The cover artist is listed as Neal Adams, and it looks like it was inked by Dick Giordano.
This is the second half of the annual Justice League-Justice Society crossover. It also felt like an effort to turn Solomon Grundy into DC's version of the Hulk: a rampaging monster powerful enough to take out both teams, and due to his mystical nature able to easily defeat Superman. DC never really followed up on that idea, though there was a brief time when an Earth-One version of Grundy was created to bedevil Superman, but that didn't last long either.
But the main thing this issue is known for is the attempt to give the Earth-One Robin a new costume.
Dick Grayson had graduated from Boy Wonder to Teen Wonder, and was now attending college, so he shouldn't be wearing a little boy's costume anymore.
Comics legend Neal Adams designed a new costume which debuted this issue (he even gets an in-story shout out). At the end of the story fans were asked to write in and give their opinion about the new look.
Writer: Mike Friedrich; artists: Dick Dillin and Joe Giella.
Unfortunately, like Solomon Grundy's new status quo, the new costume fizzled out. The Earth-One Robin remained in his short pants for the next thirteen years, until he became Nightwing in 1984.
However, in 1976 the Earth-Two Robin finally got smart, ditched his horrendous composite Batman-Robin costume, and donned the Adams costume. There was just one slight alteration: he wore a full cape instead of the scalloped arm-wings (as seen above). This was the costume he would wear until his death in Crisis on Infinite Earths (1985).

This two parter was so fun and weird. Gardner Fox gave some of his best narration here. The Spectre, Doctor Fate, two earths almost blowing up, and Solomon Grundy and Blockbuster becoming great friends. The Hulk would make the perfect addition to Blockbuster and Grundy's friendship circle, I think. (Justice League of America #47):

sharks to kings trade !!! your beloveds are sending penpals to each other in the form of players (-puckszone)
the Grundstrom for Burroughs Trade Vibe Check
HELLO beloved jane puckszone my pink scalloped hem my midnight candy gram my mist over still waters… thank you for stopping by i LOVE waking up to trade news in my inbox i LOVE that our california girls are having playdates . 🎶you can check out any time you like, but you can never leaaaveeee 🎶 <- type beat. about the California Swing; this big road trip every team gets subjected to multiple times each season on account of proximity, it used to be MISERABLE and FOUL because at one point we had 3 good teams !! i hope we get back to that one day 🥹🤲
Carl Grundstrom. CARL GRUNDOTHY …!!!!! I am genuinely VERY happy for him 😭💙 he was pushed out of the lineup during playoffs for some unfathomable reason (rat clenching fist of rage about it) . he’ll be getting more minutes on the Sharks GOD WILLING……. did you watch him at worlds? i did…!! i really liked his, idk what to call it, spirit??? like SORRY LAK but you may have fumbled a bad bitch… ough to see him benched and playing like 2 mins a night during playoffs… god he played one 25 second shift during one of those games and meanwhile they were double shifting our beautiful boy quinton byfield WHO WAS ILL BTW… i thought the kings needed grundy’s fighting spirit out there on the ice :(((
anyway adoption papers under the cut!!
Grundy for the Sharks moots:
We call him Grundy (me and you jane puckszone + the two skeletons and four moths on kingsblr) and i think i’ve seen Jim Hiller call him Grunny? grundy sounds better to me so i use that <3
He’s a solid 4th liner i mean this in the best most complimentary way possible… he does SO well … throw him out there to rest your first line and the puck might just do good things!!! my defensively responsible little guy…!! like. i love hard workers they are so dear to me <3
Low key underrated shooter? mostly in that i don’t know if i ever saw him pass loooool but yeah no he has more goals than assists this past season like IF the puck is on his stick he WILL shoot it godbless !!
Perhaps on the Sharks he moves up the depth chart 😭👍 middle-six winger anyone…praying for his success so bad you don’t even KNOW
HITTER!! this boy is big and throws hits! Plays the body when defending, plays the body when forechecking <3. i love you grundy and so does the mike grier Size/Skill/Will agenda. with this trade we are swapping hitter for hitter, but making room on our blue line (Shakir full time NHL arc???? PLEEK)
Grundy might genuinely be a great fit for the Sharks Culture Plan because i never saw a game where he wasn’t extremely invested and intense … i liked that about him vewwy much but that might just be me and my penchant for becoming attached to random depth players 🥹
More broadly, the pattern of picking up guys who need a new opportunity marches on… dellandrea and now grundstrom. we may not have uhhh affordable housing or more than 20 wins but the one thing sj does have in spades is ice time <3
i do wonder what all this does to our guys in the AHL who’ve been very hungry to break through but ough. alas. </3 perhaps that’s a conversation best had on a podcast and not by me, i can’t be objective here!!
on the LAK side of things:
Kyle Burroughs played way too many minutes on a bare bones Sharks defense please don’t look at his uuhhh -42 rating and take it seriously 😭
he might look like a silly guy from a 2010s sitcom but he is in fact a GOON!!! the fighting majors… lordy….. also i haven’t checked the stats recently but last time i did he was right up in the leaderboards for hits.
this move from LA does puzzle me!! Clarke and Spence should be getting more priority ice time next season. the Burroughs trade would push them out of the lineup unless Burroughs is getting put in the AHL or lak get rid of another defenseman.
perhaps an omen? Matt Roy leaving? or perhaps noted gorgeous leg weight Andreas Englund? <- i’m more inclined to this as it seems Burroughs and Englund would occupy the same role!!
endeared by Kyle Burroughs’ moustache deeply <3 him and j.middleton are sisters to me as per one of my posts…
anyway i hope he gets fewer minutes and less rough deployment on the kings jskdjdkgk he truly went THRU it this past season 😭🙏
in conclusion Cali Polycule please come back from the WAR i need this place to be hell on earth again CALIFORNIA SWEEP….!!!!
#WE ARE TRADING OUR GIRLS LIKE BRACELETS AT SUMMER CAMP!!!!!#i had some surprisingly serious hockey takes in this one BUT in my defence it’s like 7:30 in the morning and i’m doing this on mobile#drinking my tea <3#san jose sharks#los angeles kings#la kings#asks#user puckszone#kyle burroughs#carl grundstrom#carl grundström

Welcome to Minnesota!
Bobby of the legendary Dwyer racing family has shown up to a home race of his, the FARC Bummin' Beaver Tornado Alley Tour at Cannon Falls, Minnesota! Bobby's own take on the Blue 72 is fielded by his parents, Darrin Craig and Becky Dwyer, the proprietors of a handful of Dwyer's Speedway Laundromat locations across Minnesota. How fitting of a presence, since Minnesota Motorsports Park looks like a superspeedway that shrank in the wash; one mile of high and wide banking that is expected to produce pack racing for the FARC late models.
Here are the points standings coming into this race:
I'm probably definitely not allowed up here. FARC Lowe Dollar Series regular and Minnesota native Samantha Mason couldn't resist entering tonight's race and returning to the cockpit of a late model. Mason brings her familiar Simplease colors aboard the No. 27 Tonare owned by Mike Buttke. Mason is seen here dueling in practice with Andy Anderson's No. 21 Grease Burger machine, fielded by AnderSend-It Racing. The son of car owner and former FARC competitor Jared Andersen is hoping to build momentum on his second top 10 of the season, a ninth place finish at the caution-free LaCrosse race, but he's been frustrated that he doesn't have more to show for his speed this season, thanks to multiple mechanical failures keeping the pole winner of the opening race in Ishpeming out of better finish.
Despite the tie being broken between championship co-leaders Gordon Tanner (No. 26) and Mindy Gunn (No. 35), the two veteran-aged rookies remain close, with Gunn trailing Tanner by only two points entering tonight. Gordon Tanner may be new to the FARC ranks but he brings with him an extensive background of racing around his home of Iowa, and it showed when he dominated the first two points races at Ishpeming and the Quincy qualifying race. However, he tripped in his point-collecting spree by crashing early in the Quincy feature and struggling in Grundy County, which allowed Mindy Gunn to close up to a tie by winning the latter race. Gunn has enjoyed unexpected breakout success in FARC racing alongside the Mint-Berry Berserkers, the roller derby team-turned-pit crew that she captains. Unlike her championship rival, she did not turn her first laps on a short track until after she was 30 with guidance from crew chief and fellow Berserker Nikki Brillon, but she has learned quickly and taken great advantage of the support from Lynxe this season.

Rick accepts an invitation to the Zarick Swift home. Takes place during the summer/between seasons two and three.
Rick Tyler/gn!reader
What the hell am I doing here?, Rick thought as he stood on the porch of the Zarick house that evening, his knuckles rapping on the front door.
The Shade had accompanied him as he reburied Grundy earlier in the day, and he'd invited Rick to join the two of you for dinner. Even though Rick said no, the offer was left open. At the time, he had no intention of accepting, but something brought him there anyway, to the house that you and The Shade had been living out of the past few months.
The door swung open, and he was greeted with a big smile from you. "I was hoping you'd show. Come in!" You moved aside and let Rick step in before closing the door behind him.
When your father told you he'd invited Rick to dinner, it made you just a little anxious. Sure, the two of you hung out at The Pit Stop pretty regularly, but this was totally new territory. None of your new friends had been over yet. Still, you couldn't help grinning, because he actually came.
Before The Shade came to town, the Zarick house had been practically abandoned due to their deaths. Things looked a little different now versus the night Rick had first met the both of you. Instead of dark and dusty, it was well lit and clean. Lived in, like a home was supposed to be, even though it wasn't your actual home.
Considering what Rick knew about The Shade, he imagined your home in Opal City to be more on the creepy side, Gothic and full of old Victorian items from his day. Like something out of an old horror film. The Zarick house certainly wasn't that.
Rick followed as you walked over to the kitchen and peeked your head in. "Papa, Rick's here."
He took a look inside as well and spotted your father, who stood at the stove as he stirred something in a pot. He was down to his white dress shirt, an apron over the top and his sleeves rolled up to his elbows. Seeing the same man who was always dressed so perfectly looking a bit dressed down was just plain weird. But you didn't seem fazed, because to you, it was a normal sight.
"Ah, wonderful," your father said, "Dinner will be ready in about twenty minutes."
"Need any more help?"
"I believe I can handle the rest."
"Okay." You turned back to Rick. "Do you want something to drink? We've got water, tea, juice...?"
"Thanks, I'm alright," Rick replied as he shoved his hands into his jacket pockets.
"Let me know if you change your mind." You started off down the hallway, beckoning him along. "We can hang out in my room until dinner's ready."
Partway down the hall, you stopped in front of a door with a stop sign on it. "I was running around the junkyard one day and saw a ton of stop signs, so I bought one. Not sure what that was about, but I thought it would make a funny decoration."
"The stop signs were a Thunderbolt thing," Rick said, remembering Mike's story of discovering the genie who was now commanded by Jakeem.
"Really! That actually makes so much sense."
When you opened the door, Rick was expecting to walk into a bedroom, not down stairs that led to the basement. He reached the bottom of the steps and stopped behind you, looking around the room that very much screamed you.
One half of the room was more like an average bedroom, with a full sized bed and a giant beanbag chair, as well as an old school tv with an equally as old school gaming console. Near the chair stood a huge bookcase, and next to it a small table and lamp.
The other half held a full drum set, an electric guitar, and a piano. Along with the instruments, you had a turntable and tape deck, accompanied by shelves full to the brim with cassettes and records. The walls were covered in band posters and weird art, except for an image of a skyline above your bed—which he assumed was Opal City—and a Sonic the Hedgehog poster that hung above your tv.
"Welcome to the Flash Cave!" You threw your arms out as if presenting it to him, hoping he didn't hear the nervous waver in your voice. "When we decided to stay in Blue Valley, I finished the basement and moved all of my things here. Just to make it more like home." You'd been particularly eager to set the place up when you found out that the abandoned mansion you were living in at first had actually belonged to the man who murdered your mother. You never wanted to go near that place again.
"You did all of this?" He'd just assumed that the Zaricks were rich enough to have a fully drywalled and carpeted basement.
"I just read a whole lot of books about it and got it done. Can't remember most of it now, though."
Right. You'd told him before that when you read at superspeed, you couldn't retain information for long. Your powers didn't give you the same advantage in education as they did in other things.
Rick walked further into the room, hands still in his pockets as he looked around. He stopped by the collection of instruments in the corner. "You never mentioned that you play."
"Oh yeah." You appeared at the drumkit and played a simple beat for a few moments. "Papa wanted me to learn piano, so I told him I'd do it if he let me learn to play the guitar. We made the same deal when I wanted to learn the drums. He put me in violin lessons, but those didn't stick. I do like the piano, though." Then you were over at the piano bench, playing a tune he thought might be familiar. "Have you ever played an instrument?"
"No, I haven't."
"Maybe I could teach you sometime." When you thought about it, you could imagine him playing the drums. It was nice to whale on the drums when you were upset and needed a constructive way to let out some anger. That was clearly something that could help him.
"Maybe..." His eyes skimmed the collection of tapes. Most of them had handwritten labels, like mixtapes. They were what you listened to daily, with that old Walkman you always kept on your hip. Your record collection was much bigger, but clearly not portable like the tapes. You had to have had every classic from Abba to ZZ Top, at least everything from before the turn of the century.
You noticed him looking at the record collection and appeared next to him. "Some of these belonged to my mom. She was a real rock and roller. The Kinks, The Stones...stuff like that." You plucked an album from the shelf and sat down on the carpet, patting the spot next to you. With only a moment of hesitation, Rick joined you.
"This was one of her favorites," you said as you showed him the jacket for The Beatles' first album. "At least I think so. I can't remember her much, besides the day she died. But this album was already worn out the first time I tried to play it. It sounds pretty bad, just popping and crackling the whole time. She must have loved it to play it that much."
You imagined that she would drop the needle, then sing and dance to every song. Maybe she even danced with you. You liked to think she did, at least. Sometimes, you dared to think about what it would be like if she were still alive. Would you go to record stores and search through the bins together? Would you and her go to concerts and scream along to the lyrics at the top of your lungs?
It never did any good to think about 'what if', but you couldn't help that sense of longing.
"I don't remember my mom either." Because of Hourman and the JSA, everything seemed to be about his dad. But his mom was equally as loved and missed, and equally as mysterious to him. He knew exactly how you felt, and he knew from experience that nothing he could say would make a difference. "She was an actress. She did plays mostly. A few movies, too. I tried to watch one once, but it wasn't the same."
Rick nearly jumped when you placed a hand on his shoulder and simply looked him in the eye without another word. Instead of pity or awkwardness at this uncomfortable topic, the look you shared with him was full of pure understanding.
As you gave his shoulder a gentle squeeze, your father called from the basement door. "Time for dinner, children!"
Rick stood first and helped you to your feet, waiting for you to slip the record back into its proper place. Together, you headed to the bottom of the steps, but you stopped him before going up. "If you ever need to talk about these things, I'm here..."
"Me, too."

DHD: they accidentally make the STRIPE armor a sentient robot in its own right
It was like the universe itself had it out for STRIPE. No matter what the threat was, STRIPE was somehow always out of commission-- taken to pieces, sabotaged, stuck halfway up a cliff when it turned out that icy mountains and car parts rebuilt into a robot were not a great mix... somehow.
Except, Jakeem had noticed, it always worked when it really mattered. And it really, really mattered now. His eyes darted, trying to account for his team, trying to make some kind of Plan for a wish.
STRIPE was down, blasted hard into the side of a building and Pat was not responding on Coms. Jakeem hoped it was just that the coms were as fried as everything else electronic, and not that he was...hurt. Courtney and Artemis were airsupport, Artemis up on a rooftop somewhere he couldn't see, and Cindy stood over a fallen Mike, both her blades out and bloody as she defended him from their attackers.
It wasn't going to be enough. Jakeem tried his best to stay out of the thick of things, like Beth, and he could weigh chances almost a half of a quarter as well as she could. maybe. But still, it didn't take Dr. Midnite's goggles to see that Cindy was swaying from bloodloss, that Mike's movements were getting feebler, that Artemis was going to run out of crossbow bolts sooner rather than later.
"I wish," he said, trying to think of exact words. While the 'specific' aspect wasn't as important--Yz knew what he meant, and was pretty good about sticking to the spirit of things when it was life-or-death, the 'can't make the same wish twice' part was still very much a key restriction. "That the STRIPE robot made by Pat, Mike, and Zeek, was fully functional right now, with the power to save my friends from the were-hyenas currently trying to eat them."
"I've got just the thing! Oh, I've been wanting to do this for ages!" Yz sparked pink, and the lightning struck STRIPE. Jakeem held his breathe as the Robot's hand twitched, then moved, the whole thing righting and interposing between the weird monster thing and Cindy.
"I had it," she said, but seemed to be glad of the cover, pulling Mike to his feet and getting him out of the road while STRIPE sent the attackers flying.
With STRIPE back online, the tide turned, and the JSA focused more on offense, enough to drive the creatures back, with Grundy to harry them. They'd regroup, figure out the real plan, how to stop the things for good.
STRIPE crouched down, tilting its head like it was studying them.
"Hello," echoed the voice, and Jakeem frowned. it didn't sound right, like Pat's voiced amplified.
"Dad?" Mike asked, picking up on the same issue.
The chestplate moved, opening. Jakeem could see the blood-- not much of it. Pat's eyes were closed, but--
"He's breathing, oh, thank god." Courtney announced, reaching him first. "Beth, call your mom!"
"My passenger is in need of medical attention," STRIPE said. "Who else is in need of medical attention?"
"Hold up," Rick said, ever suspicious. "Who are you?"
"I am STRIPE."
"Yeah, but like... who? Is that Zeke?" Yolanda asked, limping slightly as she approached. One of the Hyenas had gotten a lucky bite.
"I am...STRIPE," STRIPE said. "I do not understand."
"Are you another AI?" Beth asked. "Like Chuck?"
"Optimus Prime?" Mike blinked, shaking his head and promptly realizing why doing that with a concussion was frowned upon.
"Uh. I think that's my bad," Jakeem said, holding up the pen.
"You wished for the robot--" Artemis started
"My name is STRIPE," STRIPE interrupted helpfully.
"To be... alive?" Artemis finished.
"Well, not in so many words," Jakeem shrugged. "It worked though, right?"

Review Roundup: What Did the Critics Think of Mike Faist and Lucas Hedges in BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN?
The world premiere of Ashley Robinson's play with music, Brokeback Mountain, has now opened @sohoplace.
By: Aliya Al-Hassan May. 19, 2023 [adapted]
[…] Abbie Grundy: BroadwayWorld: Mike Faist is charismatic and endearing as Jack, able to shift from a young man filled with childish naivety and dreams one moment to a man who never got what he wanted with fluidity and ease. He is partnered fantastically. […] They (Mike and Lucas) share a chemistry that crackles rather than sparks - it's rough and raw - and they manage to convey this within every single scene.
Sarah Crompton: WhatsOnStage: One moment Jack and Ennis seem to be strangers, the next - without much warning, or a sign of a spark - they are grappling (discreetly) inside a tent. The intimacy between them is established but not the depth of their affair over 20-odd years. It's a big ask for a play to establish that kind of arc, but Butterell's slightly frantic direction increases the sense of speeding along the surface and the device of having the older Ennis watching the action feels intrusive rather than illuminating.
Sam Marlowe: The Stage: Faist and Hedges are riveting […] while Faist's Jack, more comfortable in his own skin, radiates volatile charisma. There is a fragile boyishness beneath the rugged toil and tough, terse talk. And the sex, often either followed or preceded by physical fights, is sensitively handled, from the initial bumping of boots in a tent to tender bare-chested clinches.
[…]
Clive Davis: The Times: What about the sex scenes, I hear you asking? They're more muted than in the film. There's a good deal of kissing, groping and a hint of nudity, including when Faist washes his nether regions with a cloth. But Butterell wisely confines the crucial first bout of love-making to a discreet fumbling in a tiny, lighted tent.
[…]
Bob Verini: New York Stage Review […] Just as boldly, it offers lead performances from Mike Faist and Lucas Hedges that can stand without apology against those of Jake Gyllenhaal and the late Heath Ledger – different, but no less emotionally true.

Batman Intimidation
by JosephFrostsGhost This is a story taking place between Batman ’89 and Batman Returns. Yes, I’m quite aware of Batman Resurrection, and I’ve been reading it. I’m half way through the book, and I’m rather disappointed in what’s been given. However, I was working on what I call regularly a script series called “The Sandwich Trilogy”, which was a trilogy of scripts that took place between those two Tim Burton movies long before Batman Resurrection was even considered a potential thing, and as such, I’ve decided to adapt my scripts into a novel or series of novels. This, unlike Resurrection, completely ignores Sam Hamm’s Batman ’89 and Echoes comic series. I do, however, utilize Sam Hamm’s old Batman 2 screenplay from years ago for aspects of this story. President Biden Approves Major Disaster Declaration
Federal Government Approves Missouri Governor Parson's Request for Major Disaster Declaration JEFFERSON CITY, MO (STL.News) Thursday, Missouri Governor Mike Parson announced that President Joe Biden has approved his request for a major disaster declaration to help local governments and nonprofit agencies in 33 counties in response to multiple severe weather systems that impacted Missouri from July 29 – August 14. The declaration makes federal public assistance available for the repair of damaged roads, bridges, and other public infrastructure, as well as reimbursement of associated emergency response and recovery costs. The Governor's September 5 request included more than $14 million in qualifying expenses that had already been identified. "This is important news for the communities that have been repeatedly impacted by severe storms, tornadoes, and flooding this summer," Governor Parson said. "We appreciate the President making federal assistance available, which will provide millions of dollars in much-needed support to help repair roads, bridges, and other vitally important infrastructure across the state." The following counties are included in the President's disaster declaration: Adair, Barry, Barton, Bates, Benton, Bollinger, Camden, Christian, Clark, Crawford, Dade, Gentry, Greene, Grundy, Henry, Iron, Knox, Madison, Maries, Mississippi, Morgan, New Madrid, Ozark, Perry, Scotland, Scott, Shelby, St. Clair, Ste. Genevieve, Taney, Vernon, Wayne, and Worth. The disaster declaration also makes assistance available statewide through the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Hazard Mitigation Program, which assists with cost-effective measures to reduce the potential for future damage to public infrastructure as a result of natural disasters. Individuals with unmet needs should contact United Way 211. Call 2-1-1 for assistance or visit http://211helps.org.
