ICC issues arrest warrants for Israel’s Netanyahu, Gaza death toll surpasses 44,000
Gaza health officials said on Thursday that the death toll from the 13-month war between Israel and Hamas has surpassed 44,000, as the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant and Hamas leader Mohammed Deif for alleged war crimes related to the Gaza war.
ICC issues arrest warrants for Netanyahu, Yoav Gallant, Hamas leader Al-Masri
According to the warrants, Netanyahu and Gallant could be arrested if they travel abroad. According to unconfirmed reports, Mohammed Diab Ibrahim Al-Masri, also known as Mohammed Deif. may have been killed by Israel.
The court’s chief prosecutor, Karim Khan, requested the arrest warrants in May, saying there were reasonable grounds to believe that Netanyahu and Gallant were “criminally responsible” for the mass starvation in Gaza, which constitutes war crimes and crimes against humanity.
On Thursday, the court said it found reasonable grounds to believe that Deif was responsible for crimes against humanity and war crimes, including murder, torture, rape and hostage-taking.
Gaza officials say death toll surpasses 44,000
Gaza health officials said Thursday that the death toll from the 13-month war between Israel and Hamas has surpassed 44,000.
Gaza’s health ministry did not distinguish between civilians and combatants, but it said more than half of the dead were women and children. The Israeli military claims to have killed more than 17,000 militants, without citing any evidence.
Meanwhile, a rocket fired from Lebanon killed a man and wounded two others in northern Israel on Thursday, according to Israel’s main ambulance service.
The Magen David Adom rescue service said paramedics found the body of a man in his 30s near a playground in the town of Nahariya, near the Lebanese border, after a rocket fired on Thursday.
Israel launched a war against Hamas after Hamas-led militants stormed southern Israel on October 7, 2023, killing about 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapping another 251. About 100 hostages are still in Gaza, at least a third of them believed to be dead.
Most of the rest were released during a ceasefire last year. The Israeli offensive has caused severe destruction in the vast coastal territory and displaced 90 per cent of Gaza’s population of 2.3 million.
770 children arrested in the West Bank since last October
More than 770 children from the West Bank have been arrested since the start of Israel’s genocidal war against the Gaza Strip last October, human rights sources said.
On International Children’s Day, which is marked on November 20, the Commission for Detainees and Former Detainees and the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society said on Wednesday that in light of the ongoing crime of enforced disappearance of Gazans, there are no accurate figures on arrested children from Gaza.
They explained that at least 270 children remain detained in Israel’s Ofer and Megiddo prisons, as well as in other military detention camps, including new camps established following the escalation of Israeli arrest operations that have affected thousands of citizens.
Human rights groups indicated that arrested children have been subjected to severe beatings and threats, confirming that statistical studies and documented evidence indicate that arrested children have been subjected to some form of physical or psychological torture through a number of systematic means and methods that contravene human rights laws, international conventions and the rights of the child. According to them, some children were executed on the spot during detention operations.
Statistical studies have also documented a number of cases of children being used as hostages by the Israeli army to force their family members to surrender, noting that the most striking of these cases was the story of a three-year-old child from the town of Beit Liqya in Ramallah who was arrested for an hour and a half before being released when his father was forced to surrender.

Massive Explosions Rock Beirut Amid Renewed Israeli Strikes
Israeli airstrikes caused significant explosions near Beirut’s international airport early Friday, intensifying the ongoing conflict with Hezbollah. The explosions occurred close to Dahieh, a stronghold of Hezbollah in the capital, sending plumes of smoke over the city.
Lebanon’s Ministry of Health reported that in the past 24 hours, 37 people have been killed, and 151 injured in Israeli ground and air assaults. Meanwhile, the Lebanese army confirmed the deaths of two soldiers in southern Lebanon due to Israeli forces’ advances. Israel has ordered the evacuation of 20 more towns and villages, escalating the situation.
While the Israeli military has not commented on the specific targets, Hezbollah claimed responsibility for launching attacks on Israeli forces, marking another day of intense border clashes. This marks the third full day of Israel’s invasion.
The Lebanese army reported one soldier’s death during an evacuation mission in Taybeh and another soldier’s death after an Israeli strike on an army post in Bint Jbeil. The incidents highlighted the Lebanese army’s rare engagement in this conflict.
As Israel continues its offensive against Hezbollah, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) also announced that it had struck 200 Hezbollah targets overnight, including weapons facilities and intelligence centers. More than 1,300 people have died, and over a million have been displaced across Lebanon since the conflict began, according to local authorities.
Residents of southern Lebanon have fled en masse, with vehicles and people displaced across Beirut. Humanitarian agencies report that many of the displaced are children under the age of 15, further intensifying the crisis.
Meanwhile, Israeli border communities are under constant rocket and missile fire, with Hezbollah continuing its assault on northern Israel. Despite Israeli air defenses intercepting most projectiles, the situation remains tense along the border.
The conflict, sparked by cross-border hostilities following the war in Gaza, has seen Israel’s northern communities turned into military zones, with civilians bearing the brunt of the violence.

Israel Targets Over 100 Hezbollah Rocket Launchers in Southern Lebanon
Israel states it has targeted over 100 Hezbollah rocket launchers and other "terrorist sites" in southern Lebanon, including a weapons storage facility. According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the launchers were prepared to fire at Israel, though no immediate reports of casualties were available. Lebanon's National News Agency confirmed at least 52 Israeli strikes in the southern region, and retaliatory Lebanese strikes on military sites in northern Israel.
Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah accused Israel of crossing "all red lines" after deadly explosions occurred earlier in the week, claiming they amounted to a declaration of war. While Israel has not confirmed responsibility for the explosions, Lebanese officials reported 37 fatalities and 3,000 injuries from the incidents.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant acknowledged a "new phase of the war," focusing more on northern operations. Cross-border hostilities escalated after Hezbollah fired at Israeli positions on October 8, 2023, in solidarity with Palestinians following an unprecedented Hamas attack on Israel. Since then, the conflict has resulted in hundreds of deaths, predominantly among Hezbollah fighters, and the displacement of tens of thousands on both sides.
Hezbollah, supported by Iran and designated a terrorist organization by Israel and other countries, claims to be acting in support of Hamas. The IDF stated its operations would continue to degrade Hezbollah’s capabilities. Meanwhile, international figures, including U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, have called for restraint and a ceasefire to prevent further escalation.

Syrian rebels begin forming government as Israeli tanks approach Damascus
The armed Syrian opposition will instruct Mohammed al-Bashir to form a new Syrian government for a transitional phase, as the Israeli army continues its massive attack on Syria launched on Monday.
Syria’s rebels begin forming government
The armed Syrian opposition will instruct Mohammed al-Bashir to form a new Syrian government for a transitional phase.
According to the TV station’s correspondent, this was agreed at a meeting between the commander of the opposition’s operations department, Ahmed al-Shara, and al-Bashir and the prime minister of the former regime government, Mohammed al-Jalali.
They met to discuss the order of the transfer of power. According to Al Jazeera, al-Bashir will be appointed as the new prime minister of the Syrian government.
He served as minister of development and humanitarian affairs in the government to save the Idlib revolution in 2022, the TV channel specified.
Meanwhile, the streets of Damascus continue to be chaotic and gunfire can be heard.
Israel destroys military planes, air defence systems, weapons depots in Syria
The Israeli army has launched a massive attack on Syria since Monday. Israeli media reported that “army planes attacked more than 150 military targets in Syria as part of efforts to destroy the Syrian army.”
Among the dozens of Israeli targets in Syria are Syrian army tanks, aircraft and military helicopters.
The Israeli army has carried out the most powerful raids on Syria since the October 1973 war. Israeli jets also attacked the suburbs of Homs city and the southern village of Shinshar.
Israeli troops have now captured the entire former buffer zone of the Golan Heights, occupied by Israel since 1973, and have advanced deep into Syria, reaching settlements on the outskirts of Damascus.
According to local TV channels, Israeli tanks have advanced past the town of al-Quneitra (about 55 kilometres to Damascus) and continue moving towards the Syrian capital.
Local sources specified that the Israeli Armed Forces are now in the area of the town of Qatna, almost 20 kilometres from Damascus. Along the way, they captured several towns and villages, including Aarna, Bakasm, Reemeh, Hina, Qala, Jandal, al-Husseiniya, Jita and al-Hashab.
That Israeli troops occupied several villages and towns in the southern part of Damascus. According to Arab media reports, Israeli drones are continuously attacking the Syrian capital amid the offensive.
Syrian opposition flag raised at embassy in Brussels
The Syrian opposition’s revolutionary flag was raised on Monday at the Syrian embassy building in the Belgian capital Brussels in a historic moment marking the fall of the Assad regime in Syria.
Security around the building was tight, with Belgian police setting up iron barriers to secure the area during the crossing.
On Sunday, Syrians gathered in front of Brussels Central Station and in various neighbourhoods to mark the fall of the regime. The festive gatherings, filled with chanting and waving revolutionary flags, took place under the watchful eye of public security law enforcement.
On November 27, Syrian opposition forces launched a 10-day lightning offensive, capturing key cities and the capital Damascus on December 8. The swift offensive, backed by defecting military units, led to the fall of the Assad regime after 13 years of civil war. Assad and his family fled to Moscow, where Russia has granted them asylum.
Meanwhile, Greece’s former finance minister Yanis Varoufakis wrote on X:
“The duplicity of the Western media is breaking all records. When the jihadists entered Kabul, toppling the American regime, it was the end of the world. Now that jihadists have entered Damascus to topple a secular enemy of the West, it is a triumph of the human spirit.”
