After Gaza truce, international community must keep pressure on Israel, Palestinian PM says
The international community will have to keep up the pressure on Israel after a ceasefire in Gaza, the Palestinian prime minister says.
Negotiators in Doha are trying to broker a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip after 15 months of war between Israel and Hamas that has left tens of thousands dead.
The international community will have to keep up pressure on Israel to agree to a Palestinian state after a truce in the Gaza Strip deemed inevitable, Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammed Mustafa said on Wednesday.
Mustafa said ahead of a meeting in Oslo on a two-state solution, Israeli and Palestinian, in the Middle East:
âThe truce we are talking about (âŠ) is mainly due to international pressure. It shows that the pressure is bearing fruit.â
Israel âmust realise what is just and what is unjust, and that the veto on peace and a Palestinian state will no longer be accepted or tolerated,â he added, speaking to the press.
The Palestinian prime minister made the remarks on the sidelines of the third meeting of the âInternational Alliance for the Two-State Solution,â which is attended by representatives of some 80 states and organisations.
Negotiations on a ceasefire agreement âin the final stagesâ
At the same time, negotiators in Doha are trying to finalise a ceasefire agreement in Gaza after 15 months of war between Israel and Hamas that has killed tens of thousands of people in the Palestinian territory. Qatar, which is the main mediating country along with the United States and Egypt, said the talks were âat the final stageâ and âmajor issuesâ had been resolved, but did not specify which ones.
On Wednesday, the Kremlin said it was âcautiously optimisticâ about a truce in Gaza, which has been portrayed as inevitable, deeming a cessation of hostilities âextremely necessaryâ amid a âhumanitarian catastrophe.â
âA ceasefire and a truce are extremely necessary for the people who remain in Gaza and who are experiencing these absolutely inhuman difficulties and need a ceasefire, all possible forms of humanitarian aid,â Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
Finally, a spokesman for Palestinian Islamic Jihad told AFP on Wednesday that a delegation from its movement had travelled to Qatar to take part in discussions with other Palestinian groups on prisoners to be released in the event of a truce in Gaza.
âA delegation of leading members of the Islamic Jihad movement arrived in Doha on Tuesday night to take part in the final negotiations on a ceasefire agreement in Gaza,â a spokesman for the armed group, which is allied with Hamas, said.

This shattered the routine of what was supposed to be a peaceful Jewish holiday. In an instant, thousands of civilians were victimized. This tragedy sparked a conflict that has only intensified over the past year. This story, though, is more than justâŠ

Massive Explosions Rock Beirut Amid Renewed Israeli Strikes
Israeli airstrikes caused significant explosions near Beirutâs international airport early Friday, intensifying the ongoing conflict with Hezbollah. The explosions occurred close to Dahieh, a stronghold of Hezbollah in the capital, sending plumes of smoke over the city.
Lebanonâs Ministry of Health reported that in the past 24 hours, 37 people have been killed, and 151 injured in Israeli ground and air assaults. Meanwhile, the Lebanese army confirmed the deaths of two soldiers in southern Lebanon due to Israeli forcesâ advances. Israel has ordered the evacuation of 20 more towns and villages, escalating the situation.
While the Israeli military has not commented on the specific targets, Hezbollah claimed responsibility for launching attacks on Israeli forces, marking another day of intense border clashes. This marks the third full day of Israelâs invasion.
The Lebanese army reported one soldierâs death during an evacuation mission in Taybeh and another soldierâs death after an Israeli strike on an army post in Bint Jbeil. The incidents highlighted the Lebanese armyâs rare engagement in this conflict.
As Israel continues its offensive against Hezbollah, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) also announced that it had struck 200 Hezbollah targets overnight, including weapons facilities and intelligence centers. More than 1,300 people have died, and over a million have been displaced across Lebanon since the conflict began, according to local authorities.
Residents of southern Lebanon have fled en masse, with vehicles and people displaced across Beirut. Humanitarian agencies report that many of the displaced are children under the age of 15, further intensifying the crisis.
Meanwhile, Israeli border communities are under constant rocket and missile fire, with Hezbollah continuing its assault on northern Israel. Despite Israeli air defenses intercepting most projectiles, the situation remains tense along the border.
The conflict, sparked by cross-border hostilities following the war in Gaza, has seen Israelâs northern communities turned into military zones, with civilians bearing the brunt of the violence.

Israel Targets Over 100 Hezbollah Rocket Launchers in Southern Lebanon
Israel states it has targeted over 100 Hezbollah rocket launchers and other "terrorist sites" in southern Lebanon, including a weapons storage facility. According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the launchers were prepared to fire at Israel, though no immediate reports of casualties were available. Lebanon's National News Agency confirmed at least 52 Israeli strikes in the southern region, and retaliatory Lebanese strikes on military sites in northern Israel.
Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah accused Israel of crossing "all red lines" after deadly explosions occurred earlier in the week, claiming they amounted to a declaration of war. While Israel has not confirmed responsibility for the explosions, Lebanese officials reported 37 fatalities and 3,000 injuries from the incidents.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant acknowledged a "new phase of the war," focusing more on northern operations. Cross-border hostilities escalated after Hezbollah fired at Israeli positions on October 8, 2023, in solidarity with Palestinians following an unprecedented Hamas attack on Israel. Since then, the conflict has resulted in hundreds of deaths, predominantly among Hezbollah fighters, and the displacement of tens of thousands on both sides.
Hezbollah, supported by Iran and designated a terrorist organization by Israel and other countries, claims to be acting in support of Hamas. The IDF stated its operations would continue to degrade Hezbollahâs capabilities. Meanwhile, international figures, including U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, have called for restraint and a ceasefire to prevent further escalation.

ICC issues arrest warrants for Israelâs Netanyahu, Gaza death toll surpasses 44,000
Gaza health officials said on Thursday that the death toll from the 13-month war between Israel and Hamas has surpassed 44,000, as the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant and Hamas leader Mohammed Deif for alleged war crimes related to the Gaza war.
ICC issues arrest warrants for Netanyahu, Yoav Gallant, Hamas leader Al-Masri
According to the warrants, Netanyahu and Gallant could be arrested if they travel abroad. According to unconfirmed reports, Mohammed Diab Ibrahim Al-Masri, also known as Mohammed Deif. may have been killed by Israel.
The courtâs chief prosecutor, Karim Khan, requested the arrest warrants in May, saying there were reasonable grounds to believe that Netanyahu and Gallant were âcriminally responsibleâ for the mass starvation in Gaza, which constitutes war crimes and crimes against humanity.
On Thursday, the court said it found reasonable grounds to believe that Deif was responsible for crimes against humanity and war crimes, including murder, torture, rape and hostage-taking.
Gaza officials say death toll surpasses 44,000
Gaza health officials said Thursday that the death toll from the 13-month war between Israel and Hamas has surpassed 44,000.
Gazaâs health ministry did not distinguish between civilians and combatants, but it said more than half of the dead were women and children. The Israeli military claims to have killed more than 17,000 militants, without citing any evidence.
Meanwhile, a rocket fired from Lebanon killed a man and wounded two others in northern Israel on Thursday, according to Israelâs main ambulance service.
The Magen David Adom rescue service said paramedics found the body of a man in his 30s near a playground in the town of Nahariya, near the Lebanese border, after a rocket fired on Thursday.
Israel launched a war against Hamas after Hamas-led militants stormed southern Israel on October 7, 2023, killing about 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapping another 251. About 100 hostages are still in Gaza, at least a third of them believed to be dead.
Most of the rest were released during a ceasefire last year. The Israeli offensive has caused severe destruction in the vast coastal territory and displaced 90 per cent of Gazaâs population of 2.3 million.
770 children arrested in the West Bank since last October
More than 770 children from the West Bank have been arrested since the start of Israelâs genocidal war against the Gaza Strip last October, human rights sources said.
On International Childrenâs Day, which is marked on November 20, the Commission for Detainees and Former Detainees and the Palestinian Prisonersâ Society said on Wednesday that in light of the ongoing crime of enforced disappearance of Gazans, there are no accurate figures on arrested children from Gaza.
They explained that at least 270 children remain detained in Israelâs Ofer and Megiddo prisons, as well as in other military detention camps, including new camps established following the escalation of Israeli arrest operations that have affected thousands of citizens.
Human rights groups indicated that arrested children have been subjected to severe beatings and threats, confirming that statistical studies and documented evidence indicate that arrested children have been subjected to some form of physical or psychological torture through a number of systematic means and methods that contravene human rights laws, international conventions and the rights of the child. According to them, some children were executed on the spot during detention operations.
Statistical studies have also documented a number of cases of children being used as hostages by the Israeli army to force their family members to surrender, noting that the most striking of these cases was the story of a three-year-old child from the town of Beit Liqya in Ramallah who was arrested for an hour and a half before being released when his father was forced to surrender.

Iran launches drones at Israel
As tensions escalate in the Middle East, reports emerge of Iran launching a barrage of drones towards Israel, further intensifying the volatile situation in the region. The incident has triggered widespread concern and condemnation from global leaders, raising fears of a potential escalation in hostilities.
The drone attack represents a dangerous escalation in Iran's ongoing confrontations with Israel and its allies. Such actions not only threaten the security and stability of the region but also undermine efforts for peaceful resolution and dialogue.
In response to the attack, Israel is likely to deploy its advanced defence systems and may retaliate, raising the specter of further violence and instability. The international community must urgently engage to de-escalate tensions and prevent a dangerous spiral of conflict.
Efforts to address the root causes of the tensions between Iran and Israel, including regional rivalries and geopolitical ambitions, remain essential for long-term peace and stability. Diplomatic channels must be utilised to find peaceful solutions to the underlying issues driving these conflicts.
As the situation continues to unfold, it is imperative for all parties involved to exercise restraint and prioritize dialogue over confrontation. The consequences of further escalation are grave, with the potential to destabilize the entire region and inflict untold suffering on innocent civilians.
