How to forget my old account(Right now I'm thinking that Mick is autistic and ADHD)

Mick (?) from The New Kid, I would think, might have autism. It's mentioned he has learning disorders but is undiagnosed. He loves food and fantasy worlds over school, he uses outdated slang, and there's probably other reasons that I couldn't find, because I don't want to look through the book. Everyone that's autistic is different, so if Mick was autistic, he and I would be different on the spectrum, I'm sure. I'm not an expert on this stuff, but I do head canon that Mick could be autistic.

It may be that Mick is autism but well if that were to become Canon then he would have another reason to kinn the character-

Let's hear it for Jim White! The drummer has been having what can only be called a banner year in 2024. He got back together with the Dirty Three for the amazing Love Changes Everything; he released his first solo album, the playful/absorbing All Hits: Memories; he released a new duo record with the fantastic guitarist Marisa Anderson; he showed up on Ned Collette, Bill Callahan and Myriam Gendron's latest masterpieces. And just last week, the Hard Quartet (made up of Jim, Matt Sweeney, Stephen Malkmus and Emmett Kelly) released their excellent self-titled debut. This is all high quality stuff, people.

The HQ is the first time they've played together in an official capacity, I think, but SM and White are old friends, of course — the Dirty Three toured fairly extensively with Pavement back in the 1990s. “We enjoyed getting blown off the stage, but after seeing these guys, then subsequently playing dozens of shows with them, it became obvious that it was going to be a repetitive situation,” Bob Nastanovich told NPR Music recently. “I can honestly tell you that walking onstage after the Dirty Three is like walking on hot coals.”

So! Here's some vintage camcorder footage of Pavement and D3 back then; both bands were warming up for the legendary/infamous Lollapalooza '95 extravaganza (Pavement on the main stage, the Dirty Three on the second stage) by playing some small club dates. Not sure if they necessarily blow Malkmus and the guys off the stage, but White, Warren Ellis and Mick Turner do their damndest, bringing that ever-distinctive, oceanic sound to Winston-Salem, accompanied by Ellis' surreal, occasionally confrontational, banter. Pavement, meanwhile, play a Wowee Zowee heavy set — a bunch of tunes that you wouldn't often hear after '95. The only complaint? That the D3 aren't invited onstage to jam on "Half A Canyon."

Whittaker’s truly an experience honestly. His and Callahan’s relationship is very dear to me; they’re very close with one another and each others best friend and that’s something I love to see in media, so it’s also fun to put it in my own.

I currently haven’t developed Darcy much yet, but what I can tell you is this; pre-plot, Whittaker leaves on a long-term work project impulsively, leaving Callahan and Darcy back home. Darcy is still quite young when this happens (only 4-5 years old) and she’s about 7-8 when Whittaker finally shows up again. This obviously would put a strain on their relationship, not to mention the external assets that effect them as characters as well. Whittaker loves his kid, that is clear, and it never wavers the entire time; on the other end however, Darcy is confused and even a little betrayed by Whittaker’s absence. Otherwise, Darcy is a very creative kid, similar to both of her parents in that aspect. She can be a little loud-mouthed at times, but not in a malicious way. Definitely the kind of kid to fact check you without hesitation if you got a detail wrong. She inherited her parents mutual passion for the sciences, and is especially interested in medical biology* (which is yes, very odd for a child her age, but that’s what you get when you grow up with a cryobiologist and mechanical engineer who often used their workplace as free daycare). *(That detail is plot relevant)

hi this is the character ask game thing today's contender: KAS METIS-QUETZEVE IPA: kɑ̈s metɪs kʰɛt͡seɪve AVERAGE PHONETIC: kahs meh-tis ket-say-vay PRONOUNS: He/They (prefers masc terms) CAST TYPE: Earth/Light splitcasting, which would usually appear in the form of light refraction through different materials, but he specialized more towards the earth side of his casting for work.

PERSONALITY: Kas, overall, is a kind and attentive person; He doesn't half-ass caring about things. Whether it's his work, or his family, or his family's friends, he will do everything in his power to make sure they're safe, happy, and generally okay. Needless to say, this makes it so that sometimes he forgets to take care of himself. He's been trying to do better about that. His biggest flaw is probably the fact that he is very, very obvious about things; they try not to be directly rude or blunt, but in a world of office politics and having to respectfully discuss things, they struggle. They never really learned how to talk about their ideas as a kid, as they were seen as just the ramblings of the youngest child obsessed to death with space- and that appears in their conversations now. They just don't know when to stop talking, and because they love talking, this can become a problem. Kas is also an avid music lover, and a very religious person, though part of that might be the fact he's married to a priest (more on his husband, Tzalos, later.) He's always felt most connected to Deusae Tenebri, Tellarae, and Radian- the gods of space/creation, physics and the death/life cycle, and light/movement respectively. (fun fact: his favorite song is Jupiter by Gustav Holst, and he's also named after a moon of Jupiter, Metis. The moon is pronounced slightly different but hey it's fun anyway)

WORK: Kas is project director on Board Six of the Pavilic Astronomical Research Institute (PARI)'s Spacecraft Research Divison; He loves his job to death. More or less, it's his job to oversee and direct what projects are assigned to his board by the Oversight Committee. They're the ones in kahoots with the rest of the department, and sending down the jobs to whatever board they think can work on it best. Think of it like a council with several different assembly lines, and they decide which things could be best made by which assembly line. Occasionally, they'll tell two of those lines/boards to work together, or they'll have giant 9-Board meetings to discuss something they can't figure out, etc. Usually, his jobs go like "problem-discussion-resource gathering-solution." Sometimes, it's a lot more of "problem-discussion-research-discussion-research-more research-even more research-resource gathering-not enough resources-communicate funding issues-research-build-solution." He's pretty much been all over the country in meetings with him and his "boss" (a board director on the OC named Diakerizi Askells-tye'Remerroae, who has a comically long name, and yes that's plot important) talking to different people and trying to explain to them why, yes, they DO need an unrestricted supply of synthesized Solaeic materials, unless you want the people in that craft to start overheating the second they get inside. That probably looked like a bunch of word vomit, but making the Magic Version of NASA has been very fun and i love that actually

FAMILY: - Doesn't talk to his own much - Met his absolutely lovely husband Tzalos Quetzeve (he/him, lightcasting) while traveling for work (they had to commit shenanigans and tomfoolery and other kinds of mischief while attempting to convince a temple to join their fundraising committee for some youth education stem initiative, long story) - Has a wonderful child named Teq Quetzeve (who took Tzalos's last name because it sounded better, which is pretty common, as all last names are hyphenated in Pavilic culture, so shortening them is kind of a must.) (also, he/she/they lightcasting). Teq went into Applied Cast Mechanics (basically magic engineering) because of Kas (he was a big inspiration for them) and works for the government now. - was/is actually one of the best parents in the series (though that bar is quite low)

CONCLUSION: Kas is enthusiastic, devoted, and yet sometimes too much so. They really like space, work for Magic NASA, and are a generally nice person to be around. He is the kind of person to go ask for something when they mess up his order at a restaurant while also being aware of the busy environment he's in and how to not be a karen about it. thanks for listening :) - HC

Oh I like this guy a lot. He seems like a very intricately crafted character, and a lot of love clearly went into this entire story you’ve built.

I think he’d best get along with Michael Whittaker, an assistant cryobiologist at an Antarctic research station and resident radio host.

Whittaker (I often refer to my characters by their surnames), after being permanently injured after his service in the army, began to take on biology as a pet project, and eventually grew into a genuine passion. At a job he got out of college, he meets Callahan Finch. While not in love romantically, they are each others ride or die, and have a kid together as well.

Whittaker is also a very devoted parent to their daughter, Darcy, but doesn’t always make the best decisions in regards to the big picture.

He gets along well with most, but is also terribly impulsive at times when speaking.

I think Kas and Whittaker, while having contrasting fields of work, would bond over their love for their families and passion for their careers.

Also, Magic NASA sounds pretty fucking sick and I love that.

Awesome character.

For the first time in 12 years we can officially say ... Happy Dirty Three new album day!!

Emerging once again from the unending waves crashing upon our fragile time-craft (adrift on the eternal ocean, and taking on water), Dirty Three are (a) back, (b) tangled in seaweed, and (c) not wasting another minute – as nothing is guaranteed. For their first album in over a decade – yep, it’s been since 2012’s Toward the Low Sun – they flew in, got together and started playing. End of story. What else is there to say or do but that?

The Dirty Three – Warren Ellis, Mick Turner and Jim White – formed up in Melbourne in 1992, to play with guitar drums and violin or viola, and within a couple years, they’d broken out – out of Australia, out of anything else they might have been inside of, to boot – and got worldwide. Over the next ten years, they toured over and over the planet, ceaseless like, and cut seven albums along the way.

After this, their unique style of play, fitted together like puzzle pieces, was decoupled, more often than not, and pieced together in many other, fruitful collaborations with many other esteemed talents including Bill Callahan, Cat Power, Nick Cave, Marianne Faithfull, Will Oldham, PJ Harvey, Courtney Barnett &Kurt Vile and so many more. Over the past 20 years, they’ve gotten together a few times, renewed the vow, revved the engines and played some shows, or made an album. Like now.

Xylouris White

Cafe Oto, London, 20/12/23

You know there are going to be earthquakes at a Xylouris White gig, that their mystically hypnotic power might open up fissures in the floor. Jim White can boom the bass drum with the earth flattening intensity of John Bonham. It inches it’s way towards the seated section of audience at Cafe Oto, as if stealthily fleeing the battering it’s receiving from White; like the technique in horror movies where the spectre appears much closer than is humanly possible with each frame.

In the intimate salon that is Oto you sometimes wince and start, as if at a public flogging. However White is a vaudeville flogger, a unique and compelling percussionist. His left arm ascends and curls like a magical CGI creature materialising into the air and comes flying down at the snare. His right drumstick sluices across the cymbals, another tick in his wizardry. He stares out at the audience, not with haughteur, contempt or a craving for appreciation, but serene single-mindedness, his features reminiscent of Donald Sutherland.

He would be able to maintain gravitas even if he was dressed as a wrestler. It’s easy to fixate on White’s flamboyant presence, but his partner, Giorgos Xylouris, sometimes becoming red in the face, as if struggling to keep pace with the Australian drummer, is a highly skilled vocalist and laouto player in his own right: the laouto being a Cretan lute. It’s usually an accompanying instrument, but deployed by Xylouris in a solo capacity. His lyrics are rooted in nature and the traditional rhythms of Mediterranean life.

This is rock mingled with folk in beguiling, thrilling combinations. It bears the imprint of White’s work in The Dirty Three with Mick Turner and Warren Ellis of Nick Cave’s Bad Seeds. He has also collaborated with PJ Harvey, Cat Power, Marianne Faithful, Bill Callahan and Beth Orton amongst others.

The pair first met in Melbourne in 1990 when Xylouris was touring with his father and have since produced five studio albums. They have a recognisable groove, but are constantly re-inventing and adding adornments to their music.

The first of two sets opens with Second Sister, an instrumental from April’s Drag City release The Forest In Me. It has a flamenco flavour. Telephone Song from 2019’s album The Sisypheans, also has the raw intensity of flamenco’s cante jondo. ‘Soar on a single wing and should you conquer time…’ Giorgos sings.

Black Peak from the 2016 Bella Union album of the same name has a breakbeat reminiscent of electronica, similar to that deployed by Manchester jazz trio Go Go Penguin, and a delirious riddle of a laouto line. Hey Musicians! is a foreboding, hymnal call to arms. Xylouris whistles through its latter bars. The Feast is a composition about killing a hundred animals. “Everyone’s probably vegan in here!” quips White. It starts slowly before the pounding hooves of White’s drums are on the stampede again.

The Forest in Me is largely a set of minatures coming in at two minutes or less. Night Club has delicate, haunting rhythms and Xylouris on a single stringed instrument. It’s accompanied by a humorous ancedote from White about his brother leaving a scarf at Taylor Swift’s house, which she didn’t return. Latin White is dedicated to film maker Rebecca Marshall, a recent collaborator on videos with the duo. It’s reminiscent of a folk dance and White takes up guitar for it. “Not that hard after all,’ he says wryly. Red Wine, another instrumental from The Forest In Me, flows like the fly past of a flock of geese.

On The Sisypheans’ Forging Xylouris sings of the earth trembling underfoot and ‘the wrath of the world forever increasing’. Though not in this evening’s sets it’s a neat summation of the extraordinary timbre and transcendance in the duo’s music, leaving the Oto crowd appreciatively buzzing to its core.
