Jason Molina Music's long out of print 1998 sophomore Songs: Ohia album "Impala" is now finally available again thanks to the fine folks at Secretly Canadian
IMPALA offers further testament to the songwriting talents of Jason Molina. The 13 tracks contained herein offer a glimpse into the soul of a man burdened with trying to exorcise the demons of life, loss, and subsistence. Paired down to only Jason and Geof Comings for this release, the tracks on IMPALA are simultaneously the sparsest and most textured yet to be released by the band. Consider this to be the most honest and strongest release yet from Songs: Ohia.
Out now and in stock for $50 on black vinyl with remastered demo of "Tess" as a bonus track.

Fresh off the back of a string of sold-out reunion shows at The Thornbury Theatre in Melbourne last weekend, Chapter Music have re-pressed the 3rd (and sadly, still most recent) Dick Diver album from 2015.
Recorded in Apollo Bay with the perennial Mikey Young at the helm, "Melbourne, Florida" was Dick Diver's third record after the highly-praised "New Start Again" (2011) and "Calendar Days" (2013). It saw the band stretching out, creating a bigger, broader Australian sound, one with a foot still entrenched in their musical roots (Go-Betweens, Television, Flying Nun bands, etc.) but with a wider-ranging diverse sound, simultaneously smoother and more eccentric than their previous world-conquering efforts.
"Melbourne, Florida" is now back in print for it's 10th anniversary on YELLOW colour vinyl, along with re-stocks of New Start Again and Calender Days. All 3 bona-fide modern Australian classics!

A prequel to the critically acclaimed Preacher's Daughter, the new album recounts the story of Ethel's first love, Willoughby Tucker, and their humid, laden romance.

Alex G - "Headlights" LPs and CDs are in!
Released last Friday and on heavy rotation ever since, "Headlights" is Alex G's 10th studio album and first on a major label, having recently signed to RCA/Sony. Luckily the quality hasn't dipped, with another stellar collection of songs from the Philly songwriter, up there with some of his best work!
"Written by Giannascoli and recorded across various locations in Philadelphia and New York, the album was co-produced alongside his longtime collaborator Jacob Portrait. A gorgeous collection of surreal storytelling over twelve new songs, Headlights sees Giannascoli delve further into the reality-bending terrain that has made him one of the twenty-first century’s most celebrated and influential musical architects."
We have the METALLIC BLUE colour vinyl press in for $70, plus CD copies for $28.

A bona fide Australian rock classic, finally back in print after nearly 20 years!
Originally released in 2008, The Drones' fourth album "Havilah" is a cult classic in Australian alternative rock, perfectly blending the raw intensity and unique energy of this essential band.
An album born from isolation and introspection. Recorded in a remote sub-alpine forest cabin in Victoria, Australia, Havilah was created in total seclusion from the outside world. Without conventional electricity - only diesel generators and sheer determination - The Drones crafted an album deeply connected to the rugged landscape surrounding them. That untamed energy seeps into every note, giving the record an unfiltered, visceral quality that few albums can match.
The band, led by Gareth Liddiard, expands its sonic scope, blending punk blues, noise rock, dark folk, and garage rock with raw emotional intensity. Liddiard's exceptional lyrical craft shines throughout the album, exploring mystery, doom, and existential struggles in songs that weave between allegory and stark reality
Re-pressed on vinyl for the very first time since it's initial release, European label Bang Record presents the 2008 must-have classic as a limited edition 2LP analog black vinyl pressing, with only 1,000 copies made. Don't miss out and have to wait another 17 years!

While I don't agree with the anti-Sydney / pro-Melbourne sentiment, I can't help but sympathise with the yearning in Paul Kelly's voice as he longs for the city he left behind in "From St. Kilda To King's Cross," the opening track on 1985's "Post" (and let's be honest, Adelaide cops it far worse later on the album)
Celebrating 40 years since it's release, Kelly's "debut" album came after a tumultuous time in the young songwriter's life. His first 2 albums with The Dots (which are actually pretty good, but at PK's behest we all pretend don't exist) weren't successful and the band broke up, he departed his record label, split with his wife, and moved from Melbourne to Sydney.
The change of scenery sparked an artistic rejuvenation in Kelly, kickstarting the most prolific and successful period in his career with "Post" quickly followed by classics "Gossip" and "Under The Sun" only a year each apart.
Still perhaps his finest album, and definitely the best Australian rock record without drums, "Post" celebrates it's 40th anniversary with a new reissue on 180-gram grey vinyl, out now and in stock for $55.

Wet Leg - moisturizer is out tomorrow, and we have 5 copies of the exclusive Family Photo vinyl variant to sell in-store from 10am. Plus there's goodie bags, stickers and posters to give away to the first few customers through the door. More info and pricing below:
"Wet Leg - the Isle of Wight five-piece founded by Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers – have announced their eagerly anticipated second album moisturizer! Joined by Ellis Durand (bass), Henry Holmes (drums), and Joshua Mobaraki (guitar, synth), moisturizer is fun and freaky and fabulous, an unbridled display of the live muscle Wet Leg have built up over a few years of non-stop touring. Punchier, prettier and more perverted where it counts, moisturizer is an album of manic love songs and well-timed kiss-offs, delivered by a clan of the UK’s most beloved oddballs."
Out tomorrow (July 11th) and available on multiple formats: - Family Photo Cover CLEAR vinyl - $65 (limited copies!) - Standard Cover CLEAR vinyl - $65 - Cassette - $25 - Digipack CD - $25

Two very welcome additions to the MJ Lenderman / Wednesday world of vinyl! Their cassette-only collaborative EP from 2021 has been newly pressed to wax, plus the 2024 live performance at The Factory Threatre in Sydney gets an exclusive vinyl pressing! More info and pricing below.
"Guttering" (Olive Green Vinyl, $55) was a collaborative EP by friends Jake and Karly, issued under their pseudonyms MJ Lenderman & Wednesday. Upon it's initial release, Stereogum put it perfectly when they said that "Guttering's six self-recorded tracks present some of the best aspects of both artists' work, setting sighing harmonies against dense power chords and occasionally seasoning the mix with some twangy lead guitar." Initially released in 2021 as the very first cassette release on Douglas Dulgarian's new label project Julia's War Recordings, now on 12" vinyl for the first time.
"Live At The Factory Theatre" (Multicolour Splatter Vinyl, $75) captures the dynamic North Carolina-based band led by Karly Hartzman in front of a Sydney crowd on February 24th, 2024. This 11-track record features a mix of their acclaimed tracks including Got Shocked, Turkey Vultures, and Hot Rotten Grass Smell, featuring fellow songwriter MJ Lenderman on guitar. Not available on any streaming platforms ... committed only to highly limited edition vinyl! 500 copies pressed.
