South West USA Motorcycle Trip #3
Leaving Dog Canyon Campground I road to Cloudcroft New Mexico where I saw snow for the first time that trip, I stopped to see the Mexican Canyon Railroad Trestle. I planed on camping in the mountains up there but it was going to be in the low 20s over night so I continued on. I stopped at the Alameda Park Zoo in Alamogordo. it's a lovely little zoo and the oldest in the southwest, founded in 1898. that night I camped on the shore of Holloman lake.

A Cloud-Climbing Railroad and Bridge by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: At an overlook to the Mexican Canyon Trestle along the namesake trail in Lincoln National Forest. The view is looking to the northeast. My thinking in composing this image was to use the bridge as a leading line into the image as it created a layered look in the forest to my front.

Intricate Structures of the Mexican Canyon Trestle by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A setting looking to the southeast while taking in views at the Trestle Vista Observation Site in Lincoln National Forest. I like how the bridge swinging across this canyon became a leading line and way to create a layered look in the forest to my front.

Mexican Canyon Railroad Trestle and the Mountains of Lincoln National Forest by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While walking the Osha Trail with a view looking to the west from an overlook that included the Mexican Canyon Railroad Trestle, forest covered ridges and spurs, and a far distant White Sands National Park. This is in Lincoln National Forest. I decided to go wide angle with this image, so that I could take advantage of the high ground I was on and capture a sweeping view down the canyon, but still include some blue skies and clouds above to complement the earth-tones in the lower portion of the image.

Sky Replacement in Lincoln National Forest by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: It was as I began working on the image in post production that I then decided to once again try out the sky replacement setting in Photoshop with this image. The skies are part of the Adobe stock images in Photoshop but all else is captured with my Nikon D850 SLR camera. I later worked with control points in DxO PhotoLab 6 and then made some adjustments to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted for the final image.

Mexican Canyon Trestle Nestled in the Mountains of Lincoln National Forest by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: While at the Trestle Vista Observation Site with a view looking to the southeast to the namesake bridge in Lincoln National Forest. I had several thoughts in composing this image. One was to capture the bridge as it crossed the canyon from one ridge to the other, while seemingly nestled in between those high grounds with a forest of trees all around. The other was to pull back on the focal length such that I could capture, not just the bridge and some nearby surroundings, but also some of the more distant ridges, and include some of the overcast skies that had hints of blue skies. The rest of my thought was metering the image to not blow any of the highlights present in the skies above, while still being able to pull out the more shadowed areas in the forest nearby. I later worked with control points in DxO PhotoLab 6 and then made some adjustments to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted for the final image.
