Requisite Disclaimer: I don't see the point in keeping this OC specific but, my game isn't your game etc. etc. I'm coming from a Sub! Marazhai perspective for context but just my interpretation.
So I've been rotating that Act 5 Kiss in my head for too long but I think I've pinned down what makes the Act 5 Kiss work, for me at least. Because inasmuch as the "Marazhai hates kissing" thing is fun, I don't think the actual Act of kissing (with or without teeth) is really what he's objecting to that first time. It's that the Rogue Trader is messing up the Game (ie, the terms of their fling/him teaching them how to be more Drukhari). And I think the Act 5 Kiss, or rather how you get it, is a fun bookend on ending the Game/re-balancing the dynamic?
Long-ass ramble under the cut
So, like I was saying above, the RT and Marazhai's relationship is pretty explicitly a Game that he's playing out of boredom. The Rogue Trader receives "[an education on] the true Aeldari soul" he receives "a fleeting titillation" until it's time for him to become Archon/become a Merc/join the clown show, whatever. He initiates the proposition, and he's the one setting the terms through the whole thing. It's up to the Rogue Trader to stay in their role and meet his standards, or they give up, or he gets bored and leaves. And a major part of his romance is that he's very action over words in regards to what he wants and how he feels.
As far as the first two kisses go, it's not the act itself it's the context imo. The first (bitey) kiss, he initiates, and it's during the lust/murder-high part of the Feast, which is what he invited the Rogue Trader to do. The Kiss Attempt™ by the Rogue Trader is the next morning after all that's worn off. And, granted the scene itself is pretty cozy, considering (he's literally leaning over the RT and telling them not to keep him waiting ie, next hookup) so it makes sense why the Rogue Trader might decide a goodbye kiss is appropriate. But it's a misstep I think because it's too intimate, bordering on sentimental, which is very much not the Drukhari way of doing things (it shows weakness). You aren't lovers in that way, the Rogue Trader is a toy/a pet, fun time is over and he's headed out. To try to pretend more than that is past the Game and an expression of weakness that needs to be put in its place as a "mon-keigh absurdity" as he'd say.
Compare that to the Branding, which is much more his style. It is, for all intents and purposes, a commitment scene, but he doesn't actually say "I want this," he's decided that the Rogue Trader has earned it from him. He talks around, but doesn't even explicitly say, he wants the RT to brand him either, (if asked, best he gives is "well....I mean after I've been so ~submissive~ you would let me just walk around without???? 👀"). And he threatens to walk out if the Rogue Trader keeps asking too many questions because again, he's the lead here and to say so would be to play his hand, which is a major no. If he grabs the RT like he's going to brand them....and it just so happens they have a mighty easy time grabbing that knife from him....well, there's the answer, no words needed. And if the Rogue Trader doesn't grab the knife, well, there's his answer. Y'all don't need to see each other anymore.
Which also makes the final Feast/Big confession hit the way it does because it is the first and only time he's being very direct in how he feels and what he wants, ie. they're equals and he wants the to keep up *all of this* for as long as they've got. And...that's a slip up irt his control of the situation/the Game that the Rogue Trader can exploit. To see:
And for extra juice, the actual threaten to break up line after this is "I am not interested. I think I have played enough with you" which is a nice reversal ie. "testing the limits of who is running the Game." Because if Marazhai's confession is a test, accepting fails it, they were too sentimental. Except he's not actually testing them and he gets genuinely upset and scared at the idea that the Rogue Trader would just leave him like that. Also, (at time of writing iirc), you can't get The Kiss™ if you didn't attempt it earlier at the first Feast. I think it's interesting if, perhaps, that bit of sentimentality made him assume the Rogue Trader was the one who was down bad/being sappy this whole time. Which was fun to play around with before, but now he's caught feelings and the Rogue Trader potentially out-manipulating him on that front only to "abandon" him now is a major blow to his, being, frankly.
And if the Rogue Trader pushes further with the "I do not hear enough pleading in your voice" line, the narration notes he's stuck between "despair and pride" while still refusing to say more because it's not in him to say what he wants with that kind of honesty. And again, like, he's Drukhari so you're never going to get an "I love you" out of him, and he wouldn't accept that from the Rogue Trader in turn, but he doesn't know how to otherwise show that because Drukhari aren't big on straightforward lovey dovey kiss stuff even when they actually feel it. So the Kiss™, a real (romantic) one is an olive branch in the "you don't have to say it but I'll believe you're being honest if you do this" sense but also the Rogue Trader winning irt "the Game is over, show me we're equals, I met you on your level (see: his bullshit), meet me on mine (mon-keigh absurdities)."
#if you made it to the end yay standing ovation because this was way too long jfc#en tee ways#marazhai aezyrraesh#rogue trader#casimira von valancius#<- not because shes mentioned but to mark her playthrough#i didnt like exhaust every dialogue this isnt like holistic meta or w/e cuz again playthrough but yeah#rogue trader spoilers

-bugs 🪲
-Dean is scamming people for money to support them and Sam wants to do honest work but really it’s about him wanting to be normal and not live the way their dad raised them. Dean starting scamming when he was what, 10? There’s something so delicious and seedy about Dean scamming money for the both of them and just letting Sam be a princess about it.
-“Don’t drop me” Sam says to Dean. I think Baby said that to Swayze in Dirty Dancing.
-Sam GRINS the first time they’re mistaken for a couple, like a blushing can’t-help-himself grin
The second time, Sam looks shamefaced and when Dean smacks his butt he looks caught
I do think Sam knows he’s too into Dean and is trying to stifle his feelings. Dean is much better at writing off his feelings but he’s also impulsive and obsessed with Sam so of course he takes the opportunity to smack his ass.
-this is the episode where Sam and Dean discuss their dad and how they were raised. Sam got yelled at for wanting to do normal things, while he thought John saw Dean as perfect. Dean doesn’t correct him on this or complain about John even though being perfect most definitely was not his experience.
Dean tells Sam “Dad was never disappointed in you. Never” and says John used to check up on him at college to make sure he was safe. Dean assures Sam “he was scared. He was afraid of what could’ve happened to you if he wasn’t around.”
Dean is talking about himself and John at the same time throughout this conversation. He over-identifies with his dad because he was raised to be his dad’s partner and double. He sees Sam’s criticism of John as criticism of him too. This kind of codependence shows up as little to no recognition that your feelings and the other’s feelings might be different. John, too, often sees Dean as an extension of himself. Because their codependence is so ingrained, the way his relationship with John changes throughout the seasons directly affects his relationship with Sam. Through s1, following dad equals keeping Sam safe.
It’s not like that for Sam. He can see their lives more clearly because he wasn’t parentified, because he had Dean to take care of him. He’s frustrated with Dean for always following John but Dean following John is kind of the reason Sam doesn’t have to.
-Sam was clearly feeling troubled and Dean could see that. Sam is driving the impala in the next scene. Did Dean offer to let him drive to make him feel better?
-There’s no earthly reason for them to stand this close together to look for a man at a cafe.
-Now that Sam has been reassured that their dad loves him and he feels better, Dean is driving again.
-I don’t think they realize that this much proximity is unusual for brothers
-episode focused on Sam reckoning with his resentment toward John.
-Also interesting how often the theme of Dean being a liar recurred. He is so comfortable with lying that it’s a part of him. It’s not clear what he is lying about in the episode that isn’t explicitly stated other than about being completely fine with the way he was raised.
#spn#samdean#spn 1x08#wincest#spn meta#the cashier at Trader Joe’s today told me that she too was obsessed with spn#so obsessed that you wrote analyses for every episode? it’s more likely than you think

Mr Brown's Ensemble at the Ball
I think this officially marks the moment I've moved from obsessed to completely unhinged. It was only a matter of time. Welcome one and all! Here I loose my mind over the fact that Mr Brown is seen revived in line for the coffee shop wearing his outfit from the Dirty Donkey, NOT his outfit from the ball. But to back up, let's start here:
There's already been theories about how Mr Brown's outfit at the Whickber’s Street's Ballroom Meeting resembles Crowley's from when they met at the pub because Mr Brown has a pash on Aziraphale (also infamously blogged about here). Just as a reminder (in case anyone could forget) I'm referring to this outfit...
And the fact that Mr Brown shows up at the ball in a turtleneck and vest and jacket much like we see above, however with the vest and jacket in tartan that looks suspiciously similar to dear Mr Fell's bowtie.
I had headcanoned that Mr Brown dressed himself like this at the ball on purpose to catch Aziraphale's eye, but upon latest rewatch I caught this:
The next morning, Crowley brings Mr Brown back wearing the exact same outfit that he was wearing from the other day at the Dirty Donkey:
Aaaand this is where I completely lose the last shred of my sanity to this show. Does this mean
Crowley noticed Mr Brown dressing like him and did not care for it and deliberately brought him back in the outfit he'd seen him in before??
The outfit was miracled, and when Crowley brought Mr Brown back from the dead (have we confirmed officially that he died? I can't remember) or from whenever he’d been in the demon’s clutches, he brought him back in his pre-miracled outfit, either on purpose or because the miracled outfit had disappeared upon death/whatever happened to him?
Furthermore, if Aziraphale is miracling the outfits, then he miracled Mr Brown's ballroom ensemble to both look like Crowley's usual outfit AND complement his bowtie?!? SCANDAL!!! Jk, we all know Aziraphale only has eyes for Crowley which leads me to speculate that...
The ballroom outfits were not chosen by Aziraphale, but instead his magic allowed each person to create their own outfit of choice from their subconscious/imagination that would make the event feel more special or perhaps more romantic for them. Has anyone else done a meta about this already? I only remember reading one getting into lapels and allegiances from the ball outfits. However…
If his outfit was miracled and he was revived in the pre-miracled outfit, it seems odd that Mr Brown would have been wearing the exact same outfit from a few days ago. I don't think we've seen any of the other Whickbar street characters wearing the same outfit on a different day, although there are a potentially suspicious amount of extras that do. Does this costume repeat have anything to do with the extras wandering around in the same outfits? Otherwise…
This brings me back to the theory that Crowley made a choice to revive Mr Brown in what he had previously seen him wearing regardless of what he had gone to the meeting in. Maybe because his memory of the previous night was faulty? Or, going back to option #1, he simply did not care for Mr Brown stealing his and Aziraphale’s looks.
For those still reading, let it not be said that I left any stone unturned. Here is Mr Brown entering the bookshop. This is shot in what seems to be the exact same way both Nina's and Mrs Sandwich's entrances are shot, where we see each of them already wearing the changed outfit from the first glimpse we get of them standing outside the door.
One could extrapolate from this that his outfit was changed like Nina's and Mrs Sandwich's, but we don't actually see him walking up to the bookshop beforehand, so I couldn't definitively say from his entrance alone if he came to the meeting dressed this way or if this is his miracled ensemble.
Thanks for joining me on this unhinged adventure!

It’s wild seeing chud/reactionary DnD-Fantasy fans try to gaslight mfs when it comes how certain factions of the fandoms treat Orcs as stand-ins for racist stereotypes of black people. Like they think we’re stupid. I know how the Warhammer 40k fandom handles Orcs. I’ve seen the memes and dog whistles surrounding Orcs by reactionary DnD/WH40k fans. They made this shit racist then act like WoTC is implying that orcs are like black people when the company finally cracks down. It’s so delusional and slimey to spend decades doing this fuckshit then act like WoTC is being racist when they tell mfs to cut it out.
They think they’re smarter than everybody else when they’re not. Yes, WoTC and any other company is right to call this shit out and distance themselves. I don’t like WoTC as a business (mostly bc Hasbro) but they’re moving in a better direction. Keep in mind, these idiots are the same people who whine because there’re no “evil races” as if the dumbass fantasy races can’t still have an culture that makes them evil. Mfs stupid as hell, probably that’s why they’re racist. But I guess the idea of cultures being evil and not people is too complex for these fascist types. “Wah wah, we want simple rigid morality that’s black-and-white so make the fantasy race evil by default” bro you’re working with negative IQ and the mind of a toddler
