I do really want to terrorpost but I don't feel qualified to be in that fandom man...... everyone is so smart and creative and they all have advanced degrees and I'm just sitting here like I think the lieutenants are in love :3
#also I am too weird about George#I'm going to get banned from terrorblr for saying what I want to do to that strange blonde autism creature#Starky's original posts#Anyways they have an online convention that doubles as an academic conference for polar exploration enthusiasts. Because of course they do.#And I signed up watched the webinars opened discord for the first time in forever and lurked in the server. Very impressive very fun.#Very reminiscent of every other gathering I've ever attended in that I knew no one and said nothing and did nothing#and emerged feeling only second-hand emotions.#ok that wasn't what the post was supposed to be about wtf#anyways I am excited for tomorrow's stuff#they have two of the actors attending but luckily none of the Lieutenants#so I don't need to have myself destroyed like a wild animal that might be rabid and you can't afford to take a risk lest it go mad and kill#Show has me regressing to childhood Hodge-style my dudes I am incapable of all speech all I can do is hold George in my hands#and show him to you so so shyly#You ask me what I have there and I burst into tears#<<< person who lied and has not actually emerged from months long mental health episode yet#But the holidays are coming up so NO TIME! I NEED TO GET PPL GIFTS! FOCUS! GOODNIGHT <3

Everyone, as I finish up my master's thesis and prepare for my presentation (which is in less than ten days now), I just wanted to extend my thanks to all of you who are being so patient for updates to The Risen Lamb and the Fallen God. Most of y'all who have been here for a while have known me to put out a oneshot or chapter just about every week, but due to grad school this year being so strenuous, it's no surprise that I haven't had nearly as much time to focus on writing. I've had a bit of an influx of new followers since I started the reboot in November as well, so readers who are new probably don't think my three-weeks-or-so per chapter isn't all that weird, but it's quite a long time for me lmao. I know y'all have told me that you don't mind waiting, but I wanted to say thanks anyway!
#hannah's rambles#would LOVE to be able to dedicate more time to writing but. thesis + research + teaching every other semester + classes + conferences#plus it's also tax season rn lmao#shoot i need to pick classes for next semester#and im training for a goddamn half marathon (thanks mom)#I. didn't go on my run today bc I wanted to play baldurs gate 3 with my friends for 3 hours#and that's on top of the biggest mental health funk i've had since high school. but writing? god. keeps me sane.#writing is my therapy. and also one of the reasons i need it.

I think getting into entomology has been probably one of the most positive things for my mental health that's ever happened. Not just reading about bugs and stuff but actually going out and exploring and capturing them. For years and years after I became a teenager I thought that going outside and wandering around and chasing things with a net and pulling apart logs was just like. A thing you couldn't continue to do. But there's no age limit, there's no invisible line, god himself could not stop me from wading up to my knees in that creek to grab that water scorpion.
#damn this hobby i picked up durinf covid is like. a thing im going to academic conferences for now and tjats also insane#struggling a lot in school tho i feel like my mental health is being held together with duct tape

My sessional tests ended yesterday and thankfully, I had a chance to attend an International Conference on Mental Health as part of my Internship. It was an amazing learning experience. The best part was that it was an interdisciplinary conference and there were dignitaries from not just the field of psychology and psychiatry but social work as well. I had a chance to share the space and learn from people who are working hard in the community and school mental health space. It was an enriching day! The best part was that my favourite junior presented a paper on day 1 of the conference and today the results were announced and he was the first runner up! The conference was good but him winning was a cherry on the cake! Absolutely loved the day!!

A PSA
It has come to my attention that some people consider their interactions with people who experience mental health issues as appropriate examples to illustrate points when they speak in church.
First of all, I encourage anyone considering sharing a story that fits into that category to consider your lowest moment, and think about how you would feel if a friend, family member, or acquaintance shared that with anywhere between fifty and several hundred strangers. What would you feel like if someone took things you shared in a vulnerable moment and shared them with others? That can be trust-shattering. If you truly think that a story can be helpful to a lesson or a talk, make sure that you are getting informed consent from the person whose story you would be sharing. Make sure that you are omitting any personal or private details that are not necessary.
Second, think about the message that you are sending with the way you talk about this issue. Pretend that you are speaking directly to someone who is in a similar situation or feeling similar pain. Are you sending them the message that the reason they are suffering is that they do not have enough faith? Are you prescribing Jesus, faith, or miraculous healing to something that can and should be treated with professional help? Mental illness is illness. There are researchers and medical practitioners, as well as other professionals, who have centered their career around helping those who struggle with mental illness in one way or another. While religion, faith, and miracles can be helpful to some, a focus on purely religious healing methods can hinder people from seeking actual help. If you would not suggest a religious solution for physical diseases, do not do so for mental illness.
Third, think about what else you could include in your talk. There are many, many ways to illustrate points, and a number of stories that highlight miracles. You do not have to use someone's mental illness and vulnerability to testify of God. Be thoughtful about what you choose to speak about. There are ways to make those with mental illness and similar struggles feel seen, heard, and welcome, without sharing very personal and private stories in a public forum. There are ways to encourage those who struggle to seek help, get help, and cling to hope for the future without stories like these.
In my personal experience, as someone who struggles with my mental health and has for years, I have seldom come across a story being shared like this that has made me feel seen, heard, welcome, or encouraged. In fact, it makes me wonder if and when my own story will be shared from a pulpit, preaching Jesus as the cure to something that I still struggle with. When stories like this are shared, I lose the ability to connect with the speaker's point and feel the spirit. My experience is not the only one that exists, and I am not trying to say that everyone is negatively impacted by these stories. I am simply sharing my personal experience to illustrate that some stories are not appropriate to share.
And some stories, whether or not they are appropriate for an environment, are not your story to tell.

After an absolutely horrendous week it’s finally the weekend and it’s fall and I can sit in my car and eat my teriyaki chicken onigiri with my mango boba and listen to mika loud so maybe it will all be okay
#genuinely the worst mental health week I’ve had in probably 6+ months#got very overwhelmed trying to catch up on almost two weeks of school work and being exhausted from the conference and traveling#but I think. it will be okay. and if not I can still read about fucking that old man so not all hope is lost.

This is the second time in the last few months that Fae Johnstone has come under attack by the far-right and T/ERFs simply for being an activist while trans. First was Hershey's 'Her For She' campaign in which she was featured on chocolate wrappers in Canada which resulted in far-right media both here and in the states going bezerk as well as death threats.
I hope that at least this brings more attention to her work with Wisdom2Action and the important advocacy work she does. But it's horrible for one person to recieve so much targeted harassment in such a short period of time.
#transphobia#canadian news#transmisogny tw#fae is literally such a phenomenal woman#i got to meet her at a mental health conference and she was lovely

How do you get off building an entire culture around individualism, and then denounce suicide as "selfish"? Wherefrom comes this sudden virtue of selflessness?
The denouncement itself belies the farce of individuality as a value in-itself: you can't socially demand the self-sufficiency of the individual and then likewise bemoan their self-chosen abandonment of the very same society that abandons them.
