AU where Meng Shi was just a bit more cynical and spent her hard-earned on buying Meng Yao study materials for the Imperial Examination instead of dodgy cultivation manuals. Cultivation is for his father to teach him, after all.
Meng Yao fucking blitzes the exam, because of course he does, and the first time he arrives at Koi Tower it's with an imperial mandate to audit the shit out of them for tax purposes.

I'm never getting over the symbolism of Jin Guangyao's coffin being sealed under the weight of Meng Shi's fallen statue! As if His fate had already been sealed by his mother's profession from the beginning and no matter how high he climbed it would always come to this!
And finally, he got crushed and buried under the weight that had been on him all his life. When all he ever wanted to do was to cherish his mother. He built a temple for her and made a statue of her as a god but in the end, he ended up in Meng Shi's coffin sealed by Meng Shi's statue, in what was once the brothel in which they both were abused.

look, I want a Meng Shi Lives AU for many reasons, but at least partially because I think if NMJ met her it would... not necessarily solve things, but I just feel like he'd struggle to hate JGY with the same veracity once he sees firsthand how much he loves his mum. and if NMJ showed Meng Shi even the tiniest ounce of respect and or basic kindness, or if Meng Shi happens to think he's a Very Nice Young Man, then...... JGY can't very well kill someone his mum likes, can he???
LXC is just happy there soaking up all them wholesome mum vibes ✌

jin guangyao's enduring love for meng shi will never NOT leave me an emotional wreck, but that last glimpse we see of him as a little boy with meng shi (as seen!! through nie huaisang's eyes!! meaning young meng yao at some point shared this story with him!!!) is ESPECIALLY devastating. always a KO seeing little meng yao taking his mama's hand, walking together with all their hopes and dreams still laid out before them.
they loved each other so much.
anyway happy mother's day mdzs fandom!!

DRAWTOBER #3 - Guanyin's Gift by @galadhir
You can't build a goddess of mercy a large temple and pay for priests to worship her every day without earning at least some merit. Aka, by divine mercy, Jin Guangyao gets a chance to do his life all over again.
this is a really sweet fic where JGY gets a second chance at his life whilst still retaining his old memories - it's a trope that I've seen used a few times, but what I really appreciate about this iteration is JGY getting to see his mother through the eyes of a forty-year-old man, realising how young she was, and actually perceiving her as a person. watching them get to establish a good and happy life is utterly wonderful, as is little kiddy xiyao getting to grow up together, and Meng Yao covertly averting distaster where he can. a lovely "what if" fic that I thoroughly enjoyed reading and then rereading.

I checked Mengi Shi's wiki page, and at the end, it's mentioned that Nie Huaisang hints he had her corpse destroyed terribly. I feel SO BAD for her. Meng Shi's only sin was being naive.
Unlike Nie Mingjue, I doubt she would be able to point to where the other pieces of her corpse were for multiple reasons. And considering Jin Guangyao, one of probably the only 2 people alive who actually cared about her and the only person that could do anything to find her corpse died before he could even start search for her I feel really bad for her. I really don't know what Nie Huaisang's end goal for Jin Guangyao was besides probably losing his titles as chief cultivator and Jin Sect leader as well as being disgraced but sullying the corpse of a woman whose only sin was being naive feels callous. Especially since there's no way that by the end of his scheme, Nie Huaisang would have left Jin Guangyao in a position to even look for his mother's corpse.

Somewhere very close he can hear shouts, encouragement and hooting. They are echoed by a woman’s crying and shrieking. With a sense of dread, he realizes that he must hurry. Wei Ying clenches his fists and runs towards the sound. He doesn’t get there in time. By the time he appears, the fight at the door of the spring house is already ending. A couple of burly guys serving as security guards at the brothel hold a struggling Meng Yao by the arms, while a third – obviously a wealthy client – pulls a kneeling woman in a torn dress towards him by the hair. Wei Ying is unfamiliar with Meng Shi and has only seen her a couple of times and only briefly, but the obvious resemblance to her son leaves no doubt about the identity of the punished courtesan. She twists her mouth into a helpless smile, disfigured by blood seeping between her white teeth, and looks at her tormentor with a pleading look. “Don’t, sir, please don’t touch my son…”
A scene from the excellent fic Лишние и нежеланные (The Unwanted) by MilbaA (my translation)
