Soul Eater AU: Legend and Hyrule

I would like to ask that everybody please ignore my poor drawing skills 😭 I’m very rusty right now so these are basically caveman drawings of what I’m trying to convey.

As aforementioned Hyrule is the weapon out of the duo and he’s a magic rod inspired greatly by the one he used in Zelda 1. He’s about 4 feet tall in that form and can perform a couple of spells from Zelda 2: Jump, Shield, Reflect, Thunder, and Life. I think they could perform other spells or even rituals.

Hyrule has a lot of magic potential while Legend only has a bit but it works well with Legend only needing a little bit to cast while Hyrule basically pushes the spell out in a much bigger form. If they complete bigger spells there runs the risk of both of them exhausting themselves.

They discovered in a bad fight that in a pinch, Hyrule can be used as a melee weapon as he has some weight 😭 They use this sparingly because it sets Legend up to be more likely hurt and Hyrule really isn’t meant to be used that way.

Hyrule is the son of a very infamous witch that was slain when he was very young. We’ll say maybe 5 years old? The royal family “took him in” as means to watch him closely and keep him away from the public. He wasn’t horribly bullied but was largely ignored or feared growing up. He was allowed to study very little magic in fear that he would develop into a witch. He had a very lonely childhood :(

Legend is the spare prince of Hyrule (the country) and was sent to live with his uncle to learn magic and combat. His father also wasn’t too sure what to do with an extra child. He grew up happy and out of the public eye until he was 12 when an assassin tried to end him. His uncle intervened and died protecting him.

He was sent back to the castle to live, and there he met Hyrule, another lonely child. They became fast friends and realized that they were compatible as weapon and meister. Legend’s father sent them to school, idk if it would be death academy, where they became top of their class despite having a very shaky reputation built around the narrative of being the spare prince and son of a witch.

At 16, Rule, and 17, Legend, they’re selected to go on a holy quest with 7 other people to stop an ancient evil from resurrection.

And that’s their story!!

This has also somewhat become my emo/goth dress up game AS well as which demonias I think each would wear 😽 I forgot that in Soul Eater all of the characters wear big goth/emo shoes. I gave Hyrule the Boxer-13s and Legend… he gets bestowed the classic Swing-815s.

Comments:

This is one of the cases where fanon is correct - Jason DOES constantly make up nicknames for Dick!

Dick has a period while he's in Blüdhaven where a lot of his hallucinations involve Jason. A lot of the weirder names on this list come from one where he's hallucinating that he's in a sitcom white-picket-fence neighbourhood and Jason is his terrifyingly upbeat neighbour.

I don’t have enough of their interactions before Jason’s death to have proper thoughts about that period. I really need to read those issues.

Summary: Despite Spirit’s persistent denial and Stein’s difficulty with understanding such a foreign feeling, a mutual romantic attraction had been brewing between the two for years. Spirit continuously relies on Stein to care for him in the wee hours of the morning after his drunken sexual endeavors, leaving him to question the possibility of Stein feeling neglected in some way. It took years for Stein to properly dissect his feelings, and still, he hasn’t an exact clue as to how to go about them, especially not when his partner is always too busy seeking validation from his “frat-boy-esc” peers. This fic could be described as depicting the results of this all. I’d also like to add that this is somewhat of an alternate universe in the sense that Kami isn’t really in the picture. They’re around 18, though Stein is implied to be a little younger than Spirit in the series, so he is around 16-17 in this fic. And also in the sense that we have no idea whether or not they have seasonal breaks.

Notes: It’s a miracle at this point that I was even able to write these two, fairly short chapters. Here, have them before erosion takes completely over. It took forever and a lot of miserably failing at processing thought for these two.

This is based on @/mellancholy-morose’s ask they sent in pertaining to an imaginary fic game. The word was starving.

“Another date?” A monotone, and yet passive-aggressive voice managed to freeze Spirit’s startled body in place, his hand on the silver knob of the front door.

The dim and ever-flickering lights of their kitchen painted Stein in a suitably unnerving way, the shadows cascading across the room and his face making the slight downturn to his lips rather overt.

“Why? Are you jealous?” Spirit feigned a conceited smirk, familiar pangs of guilt running achingly up and down his now slumped spine.

“No, I was just curious as to where you were heading off to this time. Knowing whether or not you’ll be going to a bar, a restaurant, a brothel.. it will help me determine if and when I’ll have to prepare myself to carry you to what might as well be your porcelain throne at this point,” Stein glanced up from the teabag he was whirling around in a little grey mug filled with scorching water - one which he had painted stitches all over - a disturbing grin on his face as he stared through Spirit, one filled with emotions that he was sure his meister could not quite grasp; a mixture between petulance, sardonicism, jealousy, and even mild resentment.

Spirit playfully rolled his eyes, hoping to alleviate some of the awkward and chilling tension in the air, which was so potent that Stein could likely dissect it with the help of one of his ‘pride and joys,’ as he so often called them. “It’s summer break, what can I say? Maybe you should just get out more. You know, Marie-“

“I don’t want to go out with Marie, Spirit.”

“Then-“

“I have absolutely no desire to spend a whole lot of time outside. It’s sweltering, why would I do that to myself?”

Spirit adjusted the black tie around his neck, flattening each individual fold in his dress shirt. “I’m, uh.. I’m just going to a bar with some friends,” he sighed, his brows pinched, begrudgingly observing the way in which Stein’s body tensed as he abruptly ceased his fussing with the teabag, observing how his breath hitched, observing how unnaturally controlled his posture became, as if to conceal something.

He dug his nails into his palms, the rising guilt forming into a ball nestling itself uncomfortably in his throat, barely able to fit inside.

“You’re welcome to come, Stein.”

“I appreciate the offer, but I’ll have to decline,” he blew on his steaming tea, which smelled of a minty lavender.

“Yeah,” he huffed out a breathy chuckle. “I know that’s not really your scene.”

Franken set down his glass carefully, avoiding any loud clanking sound. He lifted his gaze to meet Albarn’s again, a more solemn and analytical glint in his eyes, replacing the petty one formerly present. His hands were outstretched on opposite ends of the countertop, relying on the faux marble to hold up his weight.

“No, it isn’t. And if I’m being entirely honest, I’m not sure that it’s exactly yours either.”

“Wha-“

“Go, Spirit. You can go. I’m not going to hold you hostage. I was just curious.”

“Oh- uh.. okay?”

He placed his hand tentatively back around the doorknob, utterly dumbfounded and at a loss for any coherent words to string together.

What the hell was that supposed to mean?

“Uhm..”

“Goodbye, Spirit. I’ll see you later.. maybe.”

Maybe?

“Bye…”

Spirit closed the door quickly and promptly behind him, refusing to even so much as look at Stein, as he left.

‘How does that bastard always manage to make me feel like I’m openly running around on him,’ he narrowed his annoyed, culpable eyes, growling internally as he monologued to himself. ‘We’re not even together. What the hell? How can I cheat on someone I’m not even with? Stein doesn’t feel romantic shit. He’s not a romance guy. Yeah, sure, there’s somethin’ there, but I’m not gay or anything. It could just be a product of our partnership, couldn’t it? And even if it weren’t, I’m not gay. I’ve only ever liked women. So, It’s impossible. Yep. It’s impossible. Why would either of us be fucking gay? That’s laughable. He’s just jealous I have other friends. He just wants my attention ‘cause I’m fun to experiment on. Yeah. Fun to toy with. Does he even want my attention? Is it possible that he has those needs just like everyone else? Maybe he’s just the jealous type, I don’t fucking know. He’s always been possessive over his test subjects. That’s all it is.

No. I don’t think he’s even jealous,’ he pursed his lips childishly at the thought. ‘He’s just annoyed that he has to hold my hair back all the damn time. I’m just a burden, that’s all it is. Yeah. He’s not the helping type either, is he? No. I’m forcing him to take care of me. He’s just annoyed. I was just misreading things again. That’s all it is.’

Pondering, Running, Chasing

Alcohol reminded Spirit of a butterfly, of a caterpillar. It typically began unpleasantly at best, and downright gag-worthy at worst, only to break free from its cocoon and become a beautiful butterfly.. well, the dizzying effects it brought forth were the beautiful, sought after butterfly. Perhaps the butterfly would allow his whirlwind of emotions a piggyback ride, and would graciously flap away with them.

“Hey,” two long fingers came to snap loudly in front of his face. “Spirit.”

He rolled his wrist in a circular motion, his eyes fixed on how his whiskey swirled around in the shimmering glass he held, splashing up and swimming back down over and over again.

“What is it?” His words came out more like a shy murmur than a confident acknowledgment.

“Y’see that girl over there, right?”

He forced his eyes to follow the man’s index finger, which lead them to some ditzy-looking brunette giggling and whispering to her friends, occasionally glancing mischievously, intently at him.

“Yeah, I see her.”

“She’s been staring at you since you walked in, dude.“

He guzzled down the rest of his drink, gasping for a breath he hadn’t even realized he’d been holding.

“Aren’t you gonna go up to her? She looks easy.”

“Wouldn’t that only make it more boring? There’d be no challenge,” another man, the one sitting off to his left somewhere, chimed in.

“Well- hm. Who fucking cares honestly? Sex is sex, and why waste time on some bitch who’s just gonna… I don’t know. At least the easy ones will do whatever the fuck you want. Might not be as much of an ego boost, but hey, I’ll take what I can get.”

“I’m gonna go get another drink,” Spirit wobbled up off of the couch. “Be right-“

“Hey, what’s wrong with you tonight? Where’s all your… fire? Arrogance? I dunno, but what’s with you?” The snapper seemed to sneer at him, eyes narrow in scrutiny, as he tugged Spirit back down by his arm. “You’re bringing the whole mood down.”

“I’m just kinda tired tonight.”

“Well, why don’t you go wake yourself up, then?” He smirked, nodding his head over in the direction of the brunette.

“Uh, I don’t kn-“

“What are you, gay now or somethin’? Who would let an opportunity like *that* go? And what’s with that fucking face?”

“What face?”

“Whatever. It doesn’t matter. If you don’t fuck her, I will.”

“I’m gonna fuck her, damn,” he nearly choked on a manufactured laugh. “Just give me a second. I want another drink first.”

“She’s not the kinda girl you wanna drink a lot before fucking, Albarn.”

“Yeah, I think you’d wanna remember that one.”

Spirit’s entire body shook with a sigh. “True,” he shoved his empty glass into the snapper’s hand. “Hold my drink.”

They finally allowed him to stand, to leave, slapping him and patting him on his shoulders and back, whistling even, as he adjusted his suit jacket, making sure to walk with a zealous and self-assured saunter.

The farther he went, the closer the girl’s flushed cheeks came into view. He turned his head, as bashful or apprehensive as it may have came across, an entire line of giggling people all seated in barstools, multiple large crowds stumbling over both their words and their own feet, duos, trios, singles all hoarding the bathrooms, rushing in and out.

He mentally prepared himself, gently tapping her on her bare shoulder. It was a gesture he knew Stein would find moronic, given the fact that it was obvious he had her attention from the very beginning, and that she was well aware of his approaching presence.

Perhaps the supposed stupidity of social protocol and what it was sure to lead to would rip the seemingly disappointed face polluting all of his thoughts and behavior from out of his mind.

But wasn’t he only misreading things?

“Hello?” She smirked, lifting a playfully judging eyebrow. “You there, sweetheart?”

Spirit shook his head violently from side to side, dragging a dramatic hand down his face. “Oh, yeah, shit.. Sorry. I’m just all over the place tonight.”

“It’s okay, no worries. You shoulda seen me before *this* absolute godsend,” the woman laughed, lifting her shot glass, which sparkled under the warm lighting of the bar. “I’m Lavinia.”

“Spirit.”

“…Well, why don’t you sit down?”

Spirit ran his hand through his hair, noiselessly, though deeply inhaling. He glanced over to where the group of young men were seated. They were watching him, smirking and chuckling knowingly. They were whistling, bossily nodding their heads, the one sat in the middle pumping his fist, and the one on the left making uncomfortably suggestive hand movements.

He averted his gaze from them, flashing the girl his usual glib-full smile, as he lifted the vent of his suit jacket, his arm coming to rest against the chilled, sleek wood of the bar.

“It sucks that your meister’s such a killjoy. My apartment’s a mess,” she dragged him by his hand down the old, somewhat dirty cobblestone sidewalk, lined with antique street lights. They marched past a musty alleyway, turning a corner and entering a much cleaner sector of the city; the one closest to the DWMA, the one filled with numerous apartment buildings utilized as dormitories.

“Well, at least your roommate isn’t there.”

Lavinia released Spirit’s fingers from her grasp, fumbling with her keys, distractedly drawling as she responded with, “True…”

She stuck the wrong key into the hole at least three times, awkwardly and nervously giggling.

‘Maybe she forgot which key was the right one?’ He questioned to himself, a creeping, foreign vulnerable, nervous, and perhaps even insecure sort of feeling encircling, kissing the lurking guilt incessantly stalking him.

There was something about that guilt that brought with it achy pangs of longing- or perhaps it wasn’t. It wasn’t longing. And if it was, it had not a thing to do with guilt. It had everything to do with the opportunity gesturing him inside.

__ Mit Augustus als seinen neuen Stiefvater zogen auch seine bunt durchgewürfelten Pflegegeschwister in sein Leben ein: angefangen bei Eldred, die ohne ihr Asthmaspray dem Tod nahe ist; Prescott, der sein kleines Haustierkaninchen vor seinen Freunden versteckt, weil es nicht zu seinem toughen Image passt; Harper, die besser Französisch als Englisch spricht; Lucinda, die fest an die Existenz von Einhörnern glaubt als an die vom Weihnachtsmann; Maverick, der nur Feuerwehrmann werden will, weil sie rote Fahrzeuge fahren; und nicht zuletzt Desmond, den Meister im Verstecken.

__ Sozar hat einen noch erkennbaren indischen Akzent, der vor allem hervortritt, wenn er emotional aufgeladen ist. Ein Umstand, der ihn immens aufregt, was seinen indischen Akzent wiederum nochmal verstärkt.

__ Sozar ist ein großer Fanatiker, was Primzahlen anbelangt. Er hat ein selbstentwickeltes Programm geschrieben, das automatisch Primzahlen in zufällige Muster generiert, weil er sonst in seiner Freizeit nichts zu tun hat.

__ Sozar hat einen schwachen Hang zur Lichtempfindlichkeit und bevorzugt indirekte Beleuchtung. Womöglich hat sich diese Lichtempfindlichkeit über die Jahre hinweg entwickelt, in denen er sich ständig in sein Zimmer verbarrikadiert, um seine Survival Games zu zocken. Er verliert sich so sehr in seiner virtuellen Welt, dass er ständig vergisst, dass die echte Welt keine Rückgängig-Taste hat.

ANALYSIS BELOW THE CUT

Unsurprisingly, Shin won by a LOT. What did shock me, however, was that Gin got second place. I had no clue there were that many gin fans?? Where are you people at...

Another thing that surprised me was that Midori was...really low actually. I was expecting him to be second, but no...he's 9th.

Due to the points system, a few things like Rio Ranger being below Alice is debatable, but...do you really want to put Ranger in between the Yabusame siblings again? It's also insane how Sara scored a fair few more votes than Joe, yet Joe still won.

If anyone's curious who won based on votes instead of points...I'm not writing that out again. Sorry!! This post just took fucking ages to write and it was entirely because of the list I don't want to do that again... ahaha..

ALSO. REKO AND ALICE AND RIO TOGETHER THAT CLOSE... YOU WERE SO NICE UNTIL YOU WERE EVIL.

In terms of placement, Shin won 1st place for 1st and 2nd, but Sara shockingly overtook him in 3rd.

Also the poll did have some...suspicious activity. Namely this complete duplicate answer HOWEVER it also has 4 Saras in a row here which is very funny.

This is also I think the only exact pair of duplicates but I don't wanna check the data again...

Also shoutout to the LEGEND that only answered their first favorite and put Mishima. You might've only gotten 17th, but you left a huge impact on this poll because you had the funniest answer.

13th Sentence Game

@bcbdrums linked me this post (about sharing the 13th sentence from any WIP), and then ended up spurring me into sharing them from all my WIPs. I hope this chaos is what you wanted.

While this is mostly everything, I've skipped some WIPs for reasons such as maybe ending up as potential Resbangs™, but otherwise enjoy this absurdly long list I've put together over the course of like three hours.

You can play along and try to guess what each one's about, if you want hahaha

1, "2021 July 15"* You're sitting up, sweating like crazy, all you can focus on is taking in air.

*Technically my first fic, but it was scrapped. Never really posted it because it's too confusing and now outdated.

2. "2021 Sep 24"* As the previously stated unpredictable behaviour has led to only a small number of assessments on combat, the full extent of his abilities remain undocumented.

*Was originally for an event, but I've considering expanding upon it.

3. "(WIP) TBN" It was like the world here at DWMA was some kind of grand show, and he was just some background character.

4. Inner Strings They all called him the Soul Eater.

5. "be crime do gay" Just. Not like that.

6. Scythes don't make for practical weapons He had no idea if he was going to be able to make friends at all, let alone find a meister, someone willing to accept him for himself and actually be able to use him effectively.

7. "(simple au)" He had an odd combo of red eyes with white hair and tan skin, sharp teeth pulled into a defiant scowl, and a black jacket hunched over a frame that didn't look to understand posture for shit.

8. When Death City snows over "Come on, I doubt it'll actually snow; that shit never happens here."

9. I ain't Feline fine She gets him to stand in the center of the spell zone while instructing Maka to keep behind her, eagerly fixing her hat with her paws before starting.

10. Teeth So he'd take to his now familiar hideaway, a piano tucked away in a sparsely used room.

11. Happy Birthday, Soul Not even Maka.

12. "cursed hall" Given they've gotten to know each other to some degree before now, he was already pretty adjusted to seeing the two other members of this makeshift team: Soul and, well, Soul.

13. It's been a long night for my entire life There was always work to be done and he couldn't wait to get started.

14. One Word* Seeing all those intertwined neighbors, how easily they all sent signals together, that part of him craving to connect and belong made him feel hollow, made him wish he could have that just like everybody else.

*Let it be known that this is the notorious development hell WIP.

15. It was a dark and stormy night Of course with her literary weapon and the sudden jolt of her appearance, the figure seems to have been startled enough to give an auditory following to their jumping back, dull gleaming red blinking wildly back at her tense confusion while- Wait, Soul??

16. Ride by night only [6:19 PM] Kinda with him actually, why are you in a hurry then lol

17. The Very Hungry Soul “Well if the very hungry caterpillar would like to make sure we’re not late, he should hurry up and get dressed before I eat his breakfast for him before it gets cold.”

18. See you on the other side "Soul?"

19. The Dragon and The Moth He’s stopped entirely in his tracks when she abruptly goes in for a hug, snout nuzzling against his chest with a much softened sweetness.

20. Draconic Upon further noting its smooth surface he soon realized it wasn’t a star but in fact some sort of rock, blandly opaque like that of salt despite its odd moonlit shimmers, which even stranger still became steadily see-through in the absorbed heat of his fingertips.

21. "(wings made of arms)" Could it... really be......?

22. The Unknown Caller Caller unknown. But for him that was a lie.

23. The Exchange [8th] "Drink?"

24. Don't Escape Making his way around the back, his eyes glide along the sides until he reaches the pile of small logs, the ax resting up against them exactly as he’d left it.

25. The 42nd Story (Ch. 2)* The muffled talking of a woman, determined to be coming from a nearby room.

*As stated in The Ramble Room, this entire story was scrapped. While I didn't share the second and only other chapter despite it being finished, the first chapter was still shared.

26. "2023july11" He proceeds with actually cleaning himself up, a faint smile keeping him still awake and upright.

27. "(Aug31)" Her smile fades a little as she looks him over, a different sense of intrigue making her face bunch up funnily.

28. "hand pun" Her horrid fascination grew to the point of needing a new name for it (morbid curiosity, that's a classic) as the guy turns the hand around while it signs to him, eyes impossibly wide when she notices the similar skin tone under his hood and the missing space in his left jacket sleeve and the red of his eyes when he suddenly looks directly at her.

29. "WereWeek prompt 3" There's this girl – new student who moved in this year – who is so bossy.

30. "trees"* So much on his mind that he can't hold at bay and he can't even walk about it.

*Technically a small one-shot collection, but it's all going to be in the same fic.

31. "here and now"* His fingers stretch out from his palms in front of the glass, hurriedly ruffling through his hair, his tongue sticking out and then grinning ear-to-ear at her again with all the sunlight in the world.

*My current WIP! It's been slow-going, but I can't wait to see it through to the end haha

32. 'Cause you are more than just a dream There's an odd look he pauses on her with after hopping off that she can really only describe as him expecting her to feel like he just sealed her in with a wild animal.

33. "blacksmith au" While his body shown well the signs of having dedicated much of his life to his craft, there was a strange affliction splitting much of it in twain, diagonally from hip to shoulder as if sliced by the very heavens itself in warning.

34. Devils don't go to Heaven (working title) “...Where is this?”

Anything else is so disorganized or only a small handful of sentences that I'm just gonna go ahead and stop it here haha

Thanks for tuning in, hope this was at least entertaining, or possibly even enlightening to the sheer amount of WIPs I've manged to collect over the past few years. I do want to go back to them eventually, but one step at a time, eh?
