#Mei loves MK. She really does! She's always there for MK when he needs her. They work together. I think s4 especially shows this

AAAAH LOVE THEM BOUNCING OFF EACH OTHER AND GIVING MEI THE CONFIDENCE TO BLOOM
APPARENTLY IT’S INTERNATIONAL FRIENDS DAY AND I JUST HAPPENED TO WRITE A LITTLE FICLET ABOUT MEI AND MK OFF OF AN IDEA I HAD ABOUT THEIR FRIENDSHIP there was more i kinda wanted to add cause it felt slightly off to me and I wasn’t going to post it, BUT HECK IT HAVE SOME BEST FRIENDS CONTENT HAPPY INTERNATIONAL FRIENDS DAY
Hype Man
Mei didn’t think all that highly of herself for a dragon.
Her parents had tried to instill some of that pride in her, a dragon descendant of oceans, she had a tall standing heritage to be proud of, but it mainly just resulted in her feeling inadequate. Like she could never quite reach as amazing as every other one of her ancestors, all dragons. Something about her felt different, felt wrong. Her family came from the ocean, but Mei felt like she was burning from the inside out some days.

Lego Monkie Kid Rewatch: Season 3
Episode 9, The King, the Prince, the Shadow Part 2/2
"Does anyone else feel like-" "We've been here before? Yeah. Its weird, right? But- I ah- know I haven't." "Me neither. And yet this place feels so familiar." "Nah. Not me, man. This is all new to me."
Tumblr media
Remember when I said that a lot of characters keep wrongly comparing MK to Wukong, like MK is supposed to be the next Wukong. Well…. that wasn't just at the characters. That was at us the fans too. Up until this season, I too just thought of MK as the next Monkey King. It just felt right. Pigsy was Zhu Bajie, Tang Tang Sanzang, Mei as Ao Lie, and Sandy as Sha Wujing. Simplistically, I assumed MK was supposed to be this new version's Monkey King. But he's not. He's not like the rest. He's not part of their story- at least he wasn't supposed to be.
MK was never meant to be here... to experience this, or them. And this season is when the show really starts opening our eyes to it.
(Also… I think this proves pretty definitively that Sandy is not the still alive Sha Wujing. With his flashback in To Catch a Leaf, I was so sure. I mean, look at those old looking weaponry?!)
Tumblr media
(But unless Sha Wujing has amnesia that conveniently lets him forget the Samadhi Fire incident, than he really is just the reincarnation instead of the original.)
"It is on brand for you to have a worse version of everyone elses powers."
Tumblr media
Ouch. Also… is this a hint at Macaque having been a clone of Wukong once upon a time? Like, in Shadow Play, Macaque chooses to feature a lot of Wukong and his clones for some reason, especially when speaking of the Warrior and Hero being a team. Strangely, some of those clones look an awful lot like Macaque.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Or could this be a hint at season 5 where its revealed Macaque's shadow powers are more like certain other being who shall not be named for sake of spoilers?
Loud Annoying Wukong: "What? You got what you wanted, didn't you? Not going to gloat, monologue a little bit before scurrying off to your master?"
Tumblr media
Inner Panicking Wukong: "Ah drat! He's totally gonna know those are fake. Quick! I gotta distract him into wasting more time!"
"Wukong!"
Tumblr media
I'm pretty sure that's Ne Zha's favourite word. He says it almost every second. Might even be his catch phrase.
"Oh, so the piece of paper just magically made a bunch of light!" "That's exactly what happened and you know it!"
Tumblr media
Ah, I love these two.
"Stop! If you hurt that kid I'll-" "What. Make things worse for MK?"
Tumblr media
Like I said last time, bad hero, good mentor. He cares about MK more than anything else right now. This same kind of protective passion has happened before, back in the Journey to the West. Wukong is good at devoting himself to one person, and tolerating everyone else for the sake of that person.
"Glowy mystic symbol thingies are always never good!"
Tumblr media
Proceeds to touch said glowy mystic symbol thingies.
AWWWW! Tang trying to protect Mei!
Tumblr media
I love the majority of the adults in this show. They do their best to help the kiddos and protect them, even when those kiddo's are typically more powerful than them. Tang, Pigsy, and Sandy understand that young one's always need to be cared for.
THIS SHOT THIS SHOT THIS SHOT!
Tumblr media
I totally missed this shot the first time around! OH MY GOSHNESS SANDY I LOvE YOU!
Once again Macaque forgets about Mei.
Tumblr media
I'm starting to see why she and Macaque were put in a team together in season 4. She is, strangely enough, his blind spot.
And once again I am shaking my head at the way the show treated Macaque's supposed redemption arc. Look at the way he's treating her, the way he's treating them all! The fear and pain he causes them!
Bashes MK repeatedly into the ground until he is unconscious.
Tumblr media
Threatens Mei's life while holding her by the throat.
Tumblr media
Forces the parental figures to watch their kids get ruined.
Tumblr media
Forces Tang to choose the life of his friends over the sake of the world.
Tumblr media
The trauma this guy is causing them- and they just never bring it up? Mei should have held the largest grudge Katara style until Macaque made it up to her! Tang should be absolutely afraid to go near Macaque after the moral trauma the simian caused him. Pigsy should throw a spoon at him every time he darkens his door way with all his ping pong master might. Sandy should constantly keep Macaque between himself and the kids as a protective barrier everytime the shadow comes around.
Until Macaque makes it up to them, apologizes and tries to do right by them all... they should have continued to treat him with fear, anger, and wariness.
"But he was under LBD control' you say. 'He had no choice."
No he wasn't. This threatening, this danger he puts them in? That was for his own gain. Macaque wanted the Samadhi Fire to escape LBD. He was in control of his actions here. He was going to take the power needed to break her control over him and then dip, leaving the mortals to parish under LDB's rule. Sure, he was probably in pain and obviously scared for his life- but that doesn't excuse the choices he made and the trauma he caused.
It's like Macaque said last episode. You have to look out for yourself, no one else.

LMK Characters As Queerplatonic Partners (GN Reader, Pt 1)
Genres: Platonic || They/them pronouns for reader || No warnings needed
A/N: not all the characters in the below image will be used, it's just a good image to display the whole cast
Tumblr media
✩₊˚.⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁˖ . ݁⋆˚。⋆୨🌈୧⋆˚。⋆✩₊˚.⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁˖
MK:
- MK seems like the type to be very physically affectionate with everyone, including his friends (if you're alright with that) so he'll likely always have an arm around you or keep contact with you in some way
- You get invited to every hangout he has with Mei and you quickly become a solid member of their chaotic dynamic. MK even offers to get you a similar jacket to theirs with whatever design you want
- You've got complete free range to MK's room, snacks, and all his collectibles. He trusts you enough to give you slightly more privileges than Mei (like infinite sleepovers)
- He might whine about it from time to time, but he genuinely appreciates if you make sure he's taking care of himself while being a hero
- He brings MOUNTAINS of snacks for movie nights or marathon binges and always tries to retrain himself from eating too many of your favorites
Mei:
- She hypes you up so much. Almost everything you do she gives full enthusiastic support on, and even offers to livestream whenever you wanna do something particularly cool
- She offers to give you lessons on her motorcycle with a customized helmet for you
- She tries to make sure you're always having fun, but she knows how to dial it back when things seem to be getting out of hand and will get protective of you in an instant
- She gets less worried when you visit her home than she does with others cause she trusts you to be careful and respectful. Her parents really like you as well and are supportive of you two
Red Son:
- The best way to sum it up is he's really trying. Affection in general isn't something he's used to, so receiving support and understanding from you is something he might not seem to appreciate initially
- With time, he learns to relax around you and see you as a big pillar of support in his life. Truth be told, he was always a little worried that his temper would drive others away. Having you around means a lot to him
- His frustration is nowadays directed at others, being protective on your behalf and commanding others to respect you
- Always offers to do things for you, uses pampering as a form of affection and will indulge you within reason
Wukong:
- He honestly hadn't ever heard of the term before, but he's glad to try it out with you
- He's really missed his Journey companions, so having someone he's so close with and can feel vulnerable around fills a long-lingering need
- He let's you touch or play with basically any artifact you can find around his home, though he might occasionally plop a baby monkey on your lap to keep you from getting bored
- He wants you to go basically everywhere with him and be a travel buddy whenever you're both out together, it reminds him of the Pilgrims and brings him comfort
Macaque:
- It takes him a really long time to feel comfortable enough to warm up to the idea, but once he gets used to you, he's realizing just how much he missed being this close to someone
- He's surprisingly clingy, even if he'll never admit it or try to act like he's too independent to need contact. In reality he really likes if you're always close by him
- He can get a little wary of you at times due to past experiences, but at the end of the day he's learning to trust again, and your support means the world to him
- Usually gives you a sort of starring role in some of his shadow plays, but he'll try to be coy and say it's just a character inspired off of you or a coincidence
Chang'e:
- Loves absolutely every second that you visit. She tries to show you all around the moon, everywhere she's made a home for herself during her time up there
- Generally very sweet and supportive, but she will gently sit you down and talk to you if she feels like you're maybe getting ahead of yourself
- Takes a lot of care into making sure you're taking care of yourself, she insists a lot on making your every meal, which are usually made extra special
- Sometimes pushes back working on her show if it means spending more time with you. The moon is rather lonely, so even if she seems happy and upbeat, there's an undeniable relief at having you around

I don't understand the discourse surrounding the idea that the Demon Bull Family + Macaque weren't made to face consequences for their actions when Wukong is constantly being treated like a villain... because... that's literally not true? like at all?
Macaque and DBK were actually villains; their whole relationship with MK up until the more recent episodes was antagonistic. It was normal for them to attack or hurt the main characters. The show doesn't need the main characters to shout "Macaque, attacking and tricking MK was kind of screwed up" because... he knows that?
The entire cast knows that?
The reason that the consequences of their past actions aren’t thrown in their face is because MK isn't the kind of person to hold a person's mistakes over their heads. He could have called them out on it, but does he really need to? I mean, attempting to punch someone in the face doesn't exactly scream "I'm fine with your actions." He was mad; furious even... but he chose to look past it in the end.
That's what sets MK apart.
It would be normal to turn up your nose at someone who treated you like the DBK/Macaque have treated MK. I feel like that's kind of the point? Neither of them earned their redemption - it was just something MK offered to them because he likes making friends more than he likes keeping enemies.
He's a "good kid" as Macaque put it.
He didn't owe them anything, but he still offered an olive branch.
The reason nobody else calls them out on it?
Well, MK is their friend; they trust him completely and will always have his back. If MK decides he's willing to move past what happened and offer someone a clean slate, then his friends will do the same. You best believe that Mei and Pigsy wouldn't hesitate to tear Macaque or DBK a new one if MK got hurt again, though. It's not about forgetting what happened, just looking past it and letting them choose how they want to proceed.
It's different for Wukong, though.
The reason why Mei was so mad at Wukong wasn't because he was somehow worse than Macaque or DBK. If it were anyone else, she wouldn't have been using her words; she would have gone straight to throwing punches. No. She was mad at him because he MK was upset. She knows MK is tough; someone will kick him in the stomach and he'll offer them a bowl of noodles. She knows that, because she knows her friend.
What really gets to MK though his self-doubt, his insecurities, the trust he has in the people closest to him. She was mad because she couldn't protect MK, but more-so because she relied on Wukong to do the same. DBK can't break MK. Macaque can't break MK. Make him sad or furious, sure... but break him? No. Wukong? Wukong could break him. If his lie had resulted in Mei's death there was zero percent chance that MK would have been alright.
It was obvious Wukong hadn’t intended to hurt him, but he almost did and she was kind of upset about it!
Is this making sense to anyone?
I mean... ???
I honestly feel like way too many people are mistaking MK's characterization as a kind and forgiving person who can turn enemies into friends as narrative approval, and Wukong’s characterization as someone who takes the idea of “protecting” his loved ones a little too far and ends up keeping them in the dark instead/the cast’s reactions to this as narrative disapproval.
I never felt as though the show was making the argument that SWK was a bad person. It just feels like he’s a hero who got used to handling all the world’s problems on his own and expects too much of himself because of it, relearning how to connect and share burdens with other people… and I’m pretty sure that’s what they were going for?
He was never perfect but even Macaque, who literally hated him, has started to reevaluate the way he sees Wukong and even almost went so far as defending him when they were in the scroll.
On the opposite end of things, Macaque and DBK are villains who are trying to be better people because MK saw and acknowledged that potential in them, and it made them want to do better.
Is that just me? am I crazy? hello?

The Hero and the Warrior: A Meta
Introduction
The Hero and the Warrior motif is honestly one of my favorite motifs in the entirety of Lego Monkie Kid. Bear with me as I’ve never written a proper meta before, but this is something I’ve been thinking about for a long while and I want to put pen to paper. And you know, *gestures frantically at season 4*.
So first up, let’s begin with 2x07 “Shadow Play” and the original mention of “the Hero and the Warrior”:
Tumblr media
Macaque: “The Hero and the Warrior were like the sun and the moon, their light like a protective glow shining upon the world.  Together, there was nothing that could stop the two of them, either in the celestial realms or on earth. As time went on, the hero obtained power beyond comprehension. As the hero’s light grew, so too did his shadow—and soon, the Warrior was cast into that shadow. In the darkness, the Warrior was forgotten by the Hero.” (2x07 Shadow Play)

Cinema Sins/Wins Rip Off of Lego Monkie Kid.
Yeah yeah I’m back folks, I just decided to take a looong break.
Inspired by @satansaidmyturnintheh3||scape
Rules:
-I won't be counting Animation Mistakes, because Idk how to do that, and I myself am a beginner animator (more like incredibly amateur, to the point I'm asking my sister for help) Unless of course the Animation is obviously and clearly having a mistake for me to watch.(Or it is said in the wiki) The other reason is because I don't want to keep repeating a scene just to check for an animation mistake.
-!This is mostly for entertainment purposes, sorry if I sound too mean!
-I also won't be counting flashbacks as 'mistakes' because most of them are based on bias.
-I'll be formatting it like this
-Neutral
-Sin
-Win
Let’s get started.
——————————————-
-Intro.
Tumblr media
._.
Tumblr media
-Love how you can see where Mei, Sandy and MK are in this scene.
-On the other hand why does Pigsy have a random game machine beside his shop? I know there are apartment buildings on top of said shop but in Season 2 he actively has authority to remove it.
-Secondly is MK currently on break at the moment or is he just, ‘slacking off’ judging by his clothes he should be currently working.
Tumblr media
-Dragon Horse and Stone Monkey.
-Ah yes the underrated trio. Sandy, Mei and MK. Please tell me this group has a name.
-Bad time to call your daughter.
-The way Mei is so nervous to talk to her mother and the way she talks as if her mother doesn’t even give her enough time to explain, like I think Mei’s Mother is cutting her off at times here and it’s not really okay. It feels like Mei is talking to her boss than her Mom.
-Sandy for the win.
-The finishing move is a spin of the staff and a hit to the leg…wow MK.
-I really love how Sandy is just casually friends with these guys. Like these guys just met Sandy a few weeks ago and all of a sudden they said ‘Let’s be friends’
-Ok MK you should really get social cues…or at least let Mei get a word in-
-‘I always wanted to see Mei’s secret Dragon House full of secret Dragon stuff’ makes me wonder why no one believes in the Monkey King stories. Either that or why Mei isn’t being worshipped like a deity by now.
-Also MK, kinda creepy…but to be fair Mei put cameras on all of you…
-BRO THIS BULL CLONE HAS EVERYTHING ON HER?!
-Why does this Bull Clone pull out the same Two Pictures twice?
Tumblr media
-Mei doesn’t smile in her photo, along with the rest of her family :(
-In fact she looks kinda restricted.
-Also Key detail, looks like Mei’s little green hair things are dyed!
Tumblr media
-PIF confirms that Sha Wujing’s spear and Zhu Bajie’s rake are Celestial Weapons that later tie into Season 4
-We also have the Calabash, PIF’s fan, Wukong’s staff, Nezha’s spear and two of the Samadhi Fire Rings…though I think by this time of development this probably is Nezha’s little ring thingys in his shoes? Not really sure. The only one we don’t know about is the unidentified sword and the random rope.
-Also is she implying that her own fan is a powerful artifact? I guess that makes sense…?
-Why does PIF’s animation always stretch her or squish her I can’t take her seriously XD worse that it’s usually the face.
-Mei wanting to be a normal child is so sad. On the other hand why don’t we have more fanfics of Mei and her family dynamic? Come on people the angst is right there!
-When you think about it, the High-Tech security might’ve been the reason Mei became the ‘Tech Girl’ in the group. Since her family dabbles in High-Technology it’s only obvious she grew curious of that stuff.
-On the other note, what’s with Ancient families and suddenly getting a grasp at handling High-Technology? Like bro Red Son and Mei have so many parallels to each other it’s insane.
-MEI THIS IS WHY YOU DONT LEAVE THE DOOR OPEN.
-You know Red Son you might need to double down in calling Mei a peasant because uhh…wow, the place is huge.
Tumblr media
-Mei’s room doesn’t have a door, which shows how shitty these people actually are.
-Also Mei has a lot of rock aesthetic posters, including one with a spider meaning Mei canonically had a rock phase. That or a goth phase so goth Mei is probably canon.
-Why I thought of rock is because of the two sets of guitars she has, one being an electric guitar.
-Mei also has a skateboard indicating she used to skate.
-She has an indoor TV with two game controllers (Why didn’t they just play in her bedroom?)
-And finally she has some things I think her parents would’ve given her such has the pony statue and the meditation carpet on the floor.
-Also apparently she plays the piano? Or is that even a piano?
-The legend of Mei’s sword is kinda cool actually.
-WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU’RE NOT ALLOWED TO TOUCH IT?! HOW DO YOU DECIDE WHO GETS TO WEILD IT THEN?!
Tumblr media
-I have a feeling I know why no one has been able to hold that sword in like…ever (They all look so mean)
-‘You two boot up the old TV!’ What TV? There is literally no TV there? Is there a TV off-screen? Even so where would you put said TV? And again, why not your room?
-MK control your strength- how the hell does that even happen?
-Bull Clone literally just yeeted his hat at him.
-Said Bull Clone took the precious Dragon Sword despite the fact that he was struggling to get it off the statue
-Mei calls her Motorcycle like a horse, get it? Dragon Horse?
-Okay now I don’t blame MK I think that pinball machine is old. BECAUSE HOW DOES THAT JUST HAPPEN?!
-Mei this house should at LEAST take up a whole acre, HOW BIG IS YOUR HOUSE?!
-Mei fixing her bike is while she is chasing the Bull Clone is badass as hell. We do not talk about her enough.
-Pro tip: Never mess with Mei.
-This is why we need to give this family some doubt, okay if literally all her ancestors are dissing her and insulting her to her face because of the way she acts then maybe you shouldn’t turn a blind eye.
-‘You know what I am part of this family! I am Mei! Descendant of the Great Dragon of the West Sea, this is mine! And this is my House!” You go girl, show these guys a what you’re made of!
-A very good take on Mei accepting who she is despite her family’s expectations on her. She’s part of the family but she knows that she needs to stand up for herself. Good bravo.
Tumblr media
-IS IT JUST ME OR IS THAT THING BIGGER THAN NORMAL?!
-I wonder what the parents’ reaction was, Holy cow this might’ve been QUITE the sight.
-Yep that Bull Clone is straight up dead.
-MK I think that machine is really just old.
-Lol, Sandy making sure MK doesn’t lose focus.
-‘Somebody forgot our luggage’ then she stares directly at the dad and said dad doesn’t give a damn.
-The fact that Mei has to apologize first before getting praised is messed up as hell. If someone is trying to steal a really powerful relic such as that, then obviously it’s gonna be chaos, but the fact she has to apologize first before they acknowledge she did something good is messed up.
-But to be fair I think they do love Mei, really, but the way they parent just icks me.
-And Mei’s mom sounds like she pulled that whole talk out from google.
-Mei’s dad sounds…familiar hold up-
Tumblr media Tumblr media
-KNEW I HEARD THAT VOICE SOMEWHERE. (Also apparently Mei’s mom is the same VA as Mei, so Stephanie Steph is just talking to herself)
-Poor MK…

in your different AU‘s, will some characters have drastically different personalities?
I’m not sure if it’s necessarily “drastic” but there are definitely differences in their personalities.
I’ll write if there are any~
Taken
MK is very- untrusting, is the best way to put it. He trusts those he loves, but doesn’t trust a stranger at face value. He 100% believes everyone is lying until proven otherwise. He doesn’t trust anyone to keep their word- and infact is more on guard when someone “swears to do something/promises things”
While he is a very kind soul, he doesn’t often cry. Not to say his can’t be moved by emotions, but things don’t affect him at that deep of a level anymore. Even good things.
His abilities only really match to Wukong’s except his ability to dream of the future. This ability came from Macaque.
He’s far more similar to Nezha in how he dresses and fights. As well as his sense of honor. Things like cheating and breaking vows/promises is very upsetting to him.
Hesitant to cause any real injury to anyone.
The Day the World Eclipsed
MK : extremely trusting and loving- probably naively so. Grew up being able to trust everything around him, thus is far more susceptible to manipulation.
He has no reason to distrust anyone or feel concern they might be lying.
His fighting style takes off more of both Macaque and Wukong, as his powers take after both as well.
More playful fighting, not willing to cause any actual harm.
He’s the perfect little mix of both his parents. Bubbly and sweet, yet easily able to switch to a more conniving little trickster at the drop of a hat.
The Tragedy of Six (this is the Au with the biggest difference)
MK: while his playful nature and attitude towards his friends are the same as all the other MK’s, it is with enemies that MK might show the greatest change.
Far more quick to violent tendencies. Can cause harm, and isn’t against doing so if needed.
Very curious of the world, but grew up being told it is corrupt and beneath him, so sometimes that mindset shows in how he interacts with others.
He is very protective of his family- almost boarder-lining on possessive.
His fighting style does have a lot of Nezha’s influence, but it is Erlang that he learned the most from.
Red Son: while Red Son is the same in all my Au’s, this is where his personality differs. He’s far more cautious in this Au.
Feeling both responsible as the oldest, he also has a large sense of fear since he has had the Samahdi fire since birth.
He is calmer. Not to say his anger management issues are gone, but he works twice as hard to keep them under control.
He struggles with abandonment issues. Always assuming everyone is going to leave him- and for good reason. It’s just a matter of time, in his mind
Mei: in this Au, her general bubbly spirit and happy go lucky attitude is the same.
She is prone to more illegal shenanigans, impatient as she tends to be, yet she meditations far more frequently.
And influence from Nezha, you’d be surprise how often you find her meditating without someone prompting her to do so.
She’s claimed the other children and Nezha as her family, and she is not keen to share. And similar to Emerald, she often quietly wonders of her own heritage.
Worried that she isn’t enough as a “Dragon” since she doesn’t fully understand what it means to be one.
She really really doesn’t get along with Xiaoxiao~ (the siblings that are always fighting)
———
And that is all I can really think that is drastically different for the characters of each au. Most everyone’s personalities are the same except for the differences here :3

so just read your review of s5 and i definitely think that this season wasn’t lmk’s best and tbh the ending falls flat for me
i honestly think it’s the pacing and how everything is fixed with a bow too quickly and there’s not enough time to really process and delve into. which the specials help with, but we didn’t get one here and it just makes me go :/
there were a lot of good moments like you said (and i am latching onto them for my own safety bubble lmao) but omfg yeah when you mentioned the unexplained magic system i could not have nodded harder because HOW???? HOW DOES MK JUST KNOW THE SPELLS????? i can only suspend my belief for so much. i do trust them to explain eventually but how long do i gotta wait ;-;
sorry for the mini rant at the end. i just haven’t seen others also mention lmk’s issue with its magic system and yeah
first off, i love people using the smaller text to appear as if they're whispering. LOVE that. it's so cute.
second, that wasn't my full review. more of my initial thoughts. If I did a full review, it would be 10 pages long with sources and it would be peer reviewed and have footnotes and stuff. I still might do that. LMFAO
but s5 spoilers ahead, ofc.
but! yes. The pacing in LMK has always been quite fast! and that was less noticeable when the stakes were lower. but now that the world's always going to be in jeopardy, apparently, then. the pacing is really too fast for what they want to do.
We don't have time to delve into what the characters are feeling after each major event. Why are we JUST NOW learning about how Mei has the Samadhi Fire still and it's been inside her all along? During s4, there weren't any clues (that I saw) of her still having it, like no emerald swirls of fire, just electricity. So, the fandom, as a whole, thought she lost it, but noooo, it's been there all the time. Like, what??? That's a great way to make your audience feel stupid.
There's no -- like how did Red Son feel being locked in the scroll. What about everyone else. How are people feeling after Azure nearly destroyed the world. What about that aftermath? That part...that part that people largely think is filler is crucial to telling a story like this. We have to have moments where we sit with the characters and check in on them, see what they're thinking, how they're coping. We don't get that. We don't get enough of it. And it makes these characters feel flatter than they actually are.
They sneak in what they can in snippets and one-liners but that's not enough at this point. It's not enough when every season is going to be a world-ending catastrophe. We need to know these characters. And they've had 5 seasons to do it, and I still don't know critical things that I should know by now.
Also, worldbuilding? Can I get some, please? If the worldbuilding was good, we could go without a magic system! Think Lord of the Rings --- such WONDERFUL world building and history baked in, I don't have time to worry about the magic system. I've got so much information to go off of, I can suspend my disbelief because the world is so developed and magic can happen in a whimsical way.
But there isn't any...we travel around but WHERE ARE WE GOING?? How do-- can humans use magic? Can they see it? Have humans stumbled upon the celestial beasts ever? What bout the temples scattered about? NO one has? What if a human gets their hands on an artifact, what then? They fight in areas where humans are; is there no concern about being spotted? Sorry, but if anyone fucking saw a creature that looked ANYTHING LIKE Sun Wukong, he would be swarmed with pictures and selfies like.
And Nezha is just?? walking around??? WHAT??? I know in S3 they did this, too, but at least it was contained to those people on the train. this is a whole ass....city now.
I feel like people are just hearing me whine and complain about the magic system and they don't think it's a big deal. It's a HUGE DEAL. There is so much magic in this show!! There is so much magic that is just flung around by using seals and fancy circles. What do those circles mean??? Does everyone have their own special circle. Why does Macaque not have a circle, is it because he uses shadow magic?? Or chaos magic?? Why are they fucking with the magic now WHEN THEY HAVEN'T EVEN FULLY EXPLAINED WUKONG'S/MK'S MAGIC!!!!
Spoilers for the end of s5. But how. Does. MK. Know the spell. For Wukong's circlet. HOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOW DOES HE KNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He saw Li Jing cast it maybe 3 times, but that's enough? How, MK? When did you study that magic? When did you learn how to use seals? When DID YOU LEARN HOW TO CLOUD SOMERSAULT??
How can I follow MK anymore when he's going places I can't pinpoint? I started off with him knowing nothing, now he picks up powers whenever he wants. If that's the case, just make him as strong as Wukong then!! Just do whatever. There's no power balance either. How strong is Macaque against MK? How strong is Mei against Macaque? I need a magic system or something so I can measure these values!!
They are never going to explain it to us. You can search through the series and look for clues, but that frustration is caused by the show not telling us crucial information. They want you to suspend your belief over and over and over again, but there comes a point of pure frustration where the audience is so disconnected from what's going on, because there's no rules. Characters can do whatever they want whenever they want.
Think about how that affects the plot. Think about how they came across these stones so easily. Think about how MK suddenly got the power to reach the top of that pagoda. Think about how they just so happen to stumble and find the White Lion and Azure Dragon like!! The plot is suffering! The characters have been suffering! And i'm suffering!!!
Sorry for my SUPER LONG RANT but i'm just so fed up.

Can I request General Hcs you have for Wukong and Red Son (separately) and how these hcs impact romantic relationships and crushes?
ahh this took like 3 weeks to be posted. I was waiting for the special eposides so that i can post most of my works at once, as that some of them are related to the special eps. So thanks for both your patience and requesting !
One last thing is that I don't write romance related stuff, you guys can check it on the rules please :]
( slight season 4 special spoilers )
Tumblr media
Sun Wukong || Monkey King
He prefers arm hugs, apparentily Monkey king doesn't seem very used to the full-body hugs; as when Mk pulled to his waist on the special episodes or when Tang hugged his shoulders from behind, he does not hate nor dislike them, just not that familiar with them.
He's now more used to someone coming out of the nowhere wrapping their arms around him, stroking his tail, or playing with his fur
He may also like wrapping an arm around the shoulder of close people to him, just like how he did to Macaque when handing him the peach.
Unlike his riskless behaviors, his diet is pretty much healthy, mainly on fruits which may be considered as too much carbs, but it's not; to the fact he's a monkey
If he saw someone generllay not eating well he would insist on them to eat with him
Macaque diet isn't the best, not the worst either, the main problem is that he doesn't eat at all... Wukong always need to double check on him
I suppose he doesn't like dried fruits, consedering that those lost most of their vitamins and the juicyness he enjoys in regular peaches and fruits, However, He's fine with most likley any dried food like those peach chips he was eating in season 1.
He's one of the best immortals when it comes to fitting in modern society, as well as learing what is and how to use new inventions by looking at how he knew how to use sunscreen propely. Lord I didn't know this information before and enjoyed searching about the scientist reason and entire history of sun cream, i had a good time.
One of Wukong's favorite activities while he's in town is buying any peach related merch, whether it's food or not; he doesn't only thinks peaches taste like heaven but also loves how they're shaped and the nice colors of them.
Self taught artist, a really good one but not that he takes it seriousily or what so ever, he like to draw from times to times, and through the years he devolped a nice style
Tumblr media
Red son
Even before they intracted that friendly in person, Mei may tried to find his number because she was amazed by his skills.
He enjoy letting the raindrops wash his clothes racing on his face while soaking his hair all at once, just before drying himself with his fire. well i'm not sure about this one since he didn't seem to be happy getting wet on the beach... but consedering that the relaxing rain drops and getting soaked with water are two deffrent things it may be reasonable.
By looking at his impresive projects, I wonder how many hours he sleep, how many countless restless nights he had, with the fire demon's eyes fighting the "desire" to keep closed everytime he blinks.
From times to times, him and Sandy meditates together, Sandy tries to help him to keep his nerves together and offers him tea, one of the few people Red son act pretty chill around.
He doesn't leave the lower buttons of his outfit open due to aesthetic purposes, but rather leaves them because they restrict his dramatic movements and therefore buttoning them is uncomfortable.
Red son prefers desserts saturated with cinnamon, the rich flavor that have some sort of spice-like impression matches his love for spicy food.
When Mei's hair ties got off when her powers went crazy, Red Son was the one who gave Mei two new ones. He has a few hair ties in his pocket just in case, his ties often gets cut or burned
Just like the Monkie king, he's one of the most demons with a good ability a keeping pace with technological developments, However, When it comes to communication he's not the best at it ( it's clear enough with no need to explaination )
Red Son prepares anything he needs before starting work, whether it's working on his machines or cooking, you will find the ingredients listed with the right amounts he need and the spices arranged in order. He does this in oreder to work smoothly and hates interruptions his work to fetch things over and over, and this method saves a lot of time ( try it, you will thank me ).
His caring language to people is placing his arm around their shoulders, just like he did to Mei, assuring them he's here, they have to keep going. Mei got it and so she does that to him too.
Tumblr media
Thanks for requesting, the Analysis will be done soon too, byiee

Monkie Kid: A Hero Is Born Live blog rewatch
Before I can go to S3, the season I left off and avoided for sometime until it’s available to watch, I needed to refresh my memory.
Oh wow straight to the intro
I also forgot that this has the same studio that animated ROTTMNT cuz the animation is sick!
Fun fact I only started to watch this because of a TIKTOK video of Macaque
The fight sciences scenes😍
Not SWK trapping DBK under a mountain just like Buddha did to him 🙂
Is this how the Journey to the West really ended? I really want to read but I don’t have it in me to read it. I’m just waiting for Overly Sarcastic Productions to make their video
Wow, sick translation Narrator
Ngl I forgot how Monkie Kid characters sounds like. With the fanfics I had read I genuinely written off Tang having a smooth gentle voice
Although MK’s voices caught me off guard
Tumblr media
!!! I never noticed this!
Tumblr media
This is a nice wallpaper
A warthog vs a pig in cooking… not sure who’s going to win this one /s
M.K. has some nice jams to listen too
M.K. is like me with phone screens. Never bother fixing them :,)
Tumblr media
There's our impulsive Monkey!
How does M.K. do that?! How did he climbs—ah anime cartoon logic combined together is dumber than normal
You know I just realized. If this was an anime, you know they would put fan service on Iron Fan Princess
Tumblr media
Even SWK was surprised at MK
Is that bull a robot or those arms are just prosthetics?
Oh, it is a Robot… you would think the Robots they created wouldn’t have this much emotions in them.
“Deemed worthy can hold it” what is this? Excalibur?
Just what kind of mystic did you infuse in that gauntlet?
Oh wow, Red Son you actually did it! Didn’t remember that
Can you even call that a mountain anymore? It turned into a hill!
Ooooo, didn’t remember that broken horn on DBK
“I had returned to the world of the living!” You didn’t die DBK, just sealed 😒
Tumblr media
"No go away" *proceeds to peck* SWK you little shit
Aw, Red Son’s little face when DBK said excellent 🥹
What’s nothing more romantic than having your first meeting of your partner than landing on them… literally
I’m just giddy and amused by Red Sons antics on trying to look cool and impress his father
“Noodle boy” Oop, he said it!
Really want to put ADHD on M.K.’s character sheet cuz he just zoned out by looking at SWK staff
The two kids in the room having exaggerated expressions while the adults are just there with tired and confuse expression XD
Ah, I seem to forget that M.K. is also a little shit
With DBK’s exaggerated movements, I think I know where Red Son’s love of theatrics came from
Tumblr media
The vehicle looks out of place
Not the noodles!
Red Son, why are you always ready to combust?… actually wait, don’t answer that
Oh that poor women’s apartment! How will she pay for it???
“Pigsy going to kill me🥹” Not if Red Son kills you first
Does the actual toy of the car really have a motorcycle inside?
Now how did Mei know M.K. was in trouble?
Ows, the property damage 😬
We all need Mei as a friend. I would know, because I am her
Something rare and expensive… go to a museum, but remembering the plot, it has to be a shoe
Tumblr media
I'm sooo using this as a reaction
Props to the cashier to tell an intimidating person to go back in line
Tumblr media
This feels like a fever dream but it's not
They’re immediately got to Flower Fruit Mountain?! Where’s the gag of day and night cycles going too fast?! Missed opportunity really
Technology defeated magic, oh how Rise!Donnie would be so smug
Here’s the cliche protag team thinking the MC is dead but they’re really not
Aw 🥺
You know they’re really angry when they’re smiling instead of raging
To think that staff used to be a pillar of a Sea Dragon God
Not my boy M.K. releasing the recent traumatic event he went through
Comparing Sha Wujing and Sandy… they look nothing alike… is this why people likes to write fanfics where Sandy killed Sha Wujing?
Yeah I don’t recall this magical sequence…
Aw, M.K. 🥹
Once again, I’m taken back at the voice
Tumblr media
And here I thought it was fanon that SWK had his eye on M.K. as his successor for a while
Man, I would be mad at SWK for thrusting this kid into this situation but I remember now SWK is sooooo
“You believe in ourselves” that… does sound like a good plan
Convenient
Wow M.K. got rebirth into a stone egg
I was about to comment on how history going to repeat itself then I remember the future episodes I’m going to watch and DBK clearly not trap under something
Ow, that’s going to hurt
I’m having severe flashbacks of Krang vs Leo fight here qwq
Here’s the toy shot
Tumblr media
I finally get it! Red Son's nickname for Mei! It's because Mei represents the dragon that turned into a horse in the Journey to the West! Wow!
And finished!

LMK OC
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Meet… ummm… I don’t actually have a name for her yet…
She is ruffly 1042 (or older/younger, still deciding) years old
but she is basically still a kid most of the time
Monkey king used to be her mentor but some thing happened ( still haven’t figured that out) and now she wants revenge
but when she meets mk and mei she kinda forgets about that and starts a new life.
she helps around the noodle shop, usually cooking but sometimes deliveries.
when mk finds the staff she kinda internally panics because she knows that it means DBK is now on the loose
she decides to stay on the boat while the others try to get to flower fruit mountain
and even though she knows the best way to get to it she decides not to tell them because she’s not ready to see her old mentor again
red son and PIF do kinda recognize her but because she’s in her human form they don’t really know who she is
when mk officially becomes monkey king’s successor she doesn’t really know how to feel about it
interaction with the crew:
Mei and mk are her best friends and she wouldn’t trade them for the world
when mk becomes the monkey kid it does put a bit of a kink in their friendship
She doesn’t mind tang but she definitely wouldn’t mind if he could actually pay for once
pigsy ( not sure how to spell his name, hopefully spelled it right)teaches her everything she knows about cooking
he likes that she’s a hard worker and wants to give her a raise but she always declines.
she loves hanging out with sandy he’s always there when you need someone to talk ( rant) to
she also loves all his cats, but her favorite one she named noodle
that’s all I have for now

Note
Here comes the complaining about Mei's treatment in the fandom:
Mei gets basically zero fandom attention unless it's about shipping her with Red Son tbh, and even then it's barely ever discussion about her character. I've seen nearly everything she does in S4 be somehow attributed to Red Son, her temper, her impatience, even being concerned about Heaven(?). It's like she's a satellite character, like she doesn't matter until it relates to a man.
The thing about her temper especially gets to me because it's a trait she had since the pilot, and it feels just the teeniest bit like sexism to erase it in favor of making her into a Wholesome Softgirl.
(Also isn't her temper the main reason her dynamic with Red Son works? Like they play off of each other well because of how similar they are?)
Shipping is fun, I get it. I really like a lot of the popular ships, and Red Son is probably my favorite character but sometimes it feels like people don't actually care about Mei's canon character, they just care about giving him someone to blush or angst about.
Not to mention, for a fandom that loves angst I've seen nothing about her canonically tense relationship with her family or her fear of hurting others with the samadhi fire. That and her focus ep's almost never get talked about, except for the one with Ao Lie but even then, the discussion isn't about Mei, it's about Ao Lie.
Sorry if this isn't coherent I just have very strong feelings about this.
Anyways Mei deserves better
We are holding hands anon.
This was SUPER coherent, and I totally agree with all of your points—hope you don't mind if I write a kinda-sorta-meta about it! This is a long rant, and it's full of a ton of things that have been in my head for months.
Mei is rarely discussed as a character, and it's such a shame! Mei, MK, and LBD are my favorites, and I think I need to express my Mei love here more.
I think Mei being sidelined and ignored is far too common in the lmk fandom. I saw one person complain that Red Son should have gotten the Samadhi fire, and that it was "nothing against Mei", and it just kinda left me dumbfounded.
Like, there's nothing that giving Red Son the Samahdi fire would have added to the story that would trump what giving the Samahdi fire to Mei, our main female lead, added to the story:
Tumblr media
"MK: “Mei! You have to stop. I know you’re upset, and that’s okay! I know what it’s like to have a power you don’t know how to control—to feel like the fate of the world is in your hands and you have no idea what to do! But you always have my back, and help me through it. We, will figure this out! Together!” (3x10 The Samadhi Fire)
This sentiment of "having no idea what to do", and that being okay, is something that MK is repeating back to Mei all the way from the Revenge of the Spider Queen special. They're truly friends—best friends who are always there for each other—and I don't think MK could have even gotten through to Red Son in this situation. He got through to Mei, because if "you're bonds of friendship are as strong as you say, you will always find your way back to one another", you can always reach one another.
To me, it just feels like they want to "give" this important place in the story to a popular male side character, rather than give it to the female lead they don't care about. And it just feels misogynistic. The particular post I'm thinking of mentioned how amazing it would have been for Red Son as a character to gain back and learn to control the Samadhi fire, completely ignoring what the Samadhi fire did for Mei as a character. This is not something that could be "handed" over to any one else, not without taking away everything thematically and narratively relevant about this part of the story.
As I've mentioned in my dear Hero and Warrior meta, MK and Mei fulfill the "roles" of the Hero and the Warrior to each other. MK's choice to not abandon Mei when she needs him is a CRUCIAL choice, and something that wouldn't have even close to the same amount of impact if it were replaced by anyone else.
There's also the matter of how Mei's trust impacts the story, for better or for worse. When she makes the decision to trust someone in the name of what she thinks is right (like how she trusted Sun Wukong's plan to defeat LBD, or Azure's plan to save their friends), it leads to her being tricked. To pain—which parallels her to both MK and Lady Bone Demon in such a significant way.
However, instead of MK's-
“No matter what I do, it’s going to lead to pain. It’s like the Lady Bone Demon said—it doesn’t matter if I want to help people or not! Everything I do just- it just makes things worse!”
-Mei instead takes on the position of "We have to try." Even if the odds are stacked against them, even if it doesn't work, even if it just makes things worse—she has to try. And that works with how Mei more often than not is the one supporting MK, always having his back. If I see one more person describe MK as the "optimist" of the group when Mei is so clearly the hopepunk girly we deserve, I may lose it.
All the way back in 1x10, MK is doubtful about their victory against Demon Bull King and Mei reassures him: "But we won...right?". Mei, AGAIN, in Revenge of the Spider Queen is the one to comfort MK that "They got this" and that they would "'Figure it out. Together". Mei assures MK in 2x10 that he's mastered so many powers and that Monkey King might not even need to come back, and when MK stares in his lemonade cup sadly, cocks an eyebrow insinuating that she knows something is wrong. In 3x04 when MK is wondering what use he is without his powers and how he's going to fight the Lady Bone Demon, Mei pokes his cheek and tells him that's why they're getting the Samadhi fire.
She has her own doubts, but she stubbornly works through them—anything to protect and support her friends.
Mei is her own character. And it's a good one at that.
(The rest of my thoughts are going under the cut, this is getting a bit long lol)
Now, this brings me to Mei and Red Son's dynamic.
"Also isn't her temper the main reason her dynamic with Red Son works? Like they play off of each other well because of how similar they are"
100% IT IS. Mei and Red Son's dynamic is lovely, and I think Red Son becoming Mei's teacher really expanded on that. Red Son giving Mei "some fire training" was a perfectly fine role for him to have in the Embrace Your Destiny Special, furthering their dynamic from Revenge of the Spider Queen.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mei: "But...what if I fail everyone? What if I...lose control" Red Son: "My parents have succumbed to the Lady Bone Demon’s power—like countless others. You, and the Noodle Boy, will stop at nothing to free them. That’s how I know you won’t lose control. You can’t. Because you’re the only hope I- The only hope this world has left."
(3x11 This Imperfect World)
Red Son was so anti-hero originally, and yet here...he needs a hero. He needs Mei. Together they have to wrangle the wild emotions and energies around them to save everything. Mei is a feisty and angry character, rushing into things headfirst, and she couldn't do that or be that with the Samadhi fire, lest she destroy all she holds dear.
And, Red Son understands that. That's why he's there in the first place—to make sure Mei doesn't burn herself from the inside out. Red Son doesn't want to fail his parents and Mei doesn't want to fail the world. That's why I find them interesting.
So yeah, I really feel your "it's like she's a satellite character, like she doesn't matter until it relates to a man" sentiment. It's painfully true.
Honestly, I've been spinning around Mei's conversation with Ao Lie in 4x05 in my head for MONTHS, and not because of Ao Lie lol:
Tumblr media
Mei: “What’s the point of having power if you won’t use it? Don’t you have people you want to protect?” Ao Lie: “Of course I do! But I can’t protect them with careless actions!” Mei: “Inaction is careless! If you’re not giving everything you have to protect the people you care about, you are nothing!"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mei: I would watch my sword shatter into pieces a thousands times, so long as I used it to protect the ones I care about. If you're just going to sit here and screw around, then maybe, you don't deserve power." Ao Lie: "And perhaps with greater caution you would still have you're sword. I know a thing or two about disappointing people, about feeling powerless to protect them, but I do not sense you are a disappointment! Even now, locked away in imminent danger you're thoughts are to protect others!"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mei: "But how am I supposed to protect everyone if I don't have my sword?" Ao Lie: "A sword is powerless without the hand that wields it."
(4x05 Court of the Yellow Robed Demon)
(omg hi hand motif) (Whenever characters (most often MK, followed up by Mei) look at their hands, it's typically as a sign of resolve or the character showing that they feel the weight of the world on their shoulders. I know I keep mentioning hand motif but god I love it so much and it's important to this convo about Mei.)
Here we see Mei all laid out: she doesn't want to be a disappointment and she's motivated by protecting her friends, which all tracks. Her first scene in the whole show is saving MK, and every damn day I think about her smile towards MK before she sacrifices herself to the Lady Bone Demon.
The dialogue "What’s the point of having power if you won’t use it?" is such a lovely paring with her "We have to try" mentality. If you have the power to do something, you should do it. You should try. In this sense Mei is bound by an incredible sense of duty to her friends and to the world.
And GOD, did we need a female character entirely motivated by helping the people she cares about, armed with a kick-ass sword and her temper. She's basically a female shonen protagonist, and I think most people don't realize that about her.
Mei's line “Inaction is careless! If you’re not giving everything you have to protect the people you care about, you are nothing!" in particular is interesting. Like I've said, she's a character whose whole motivation is protecting the people she cares about, and yet she hurt MK and everyone else at the end of s3.
There are certain things in s4 that lead me to believe she feels like "nothing" because of how she handled the Samadhi fire. Like, look at Mei's face when Subodhi mentions it for the first time in s4:
Tumblr media
Subodhi: "As someone who once wielded the Samadhi fire, I thought that you would know that the flame that lights a candle is ALSO capable of lighting a forest fire."
(4x09 Roast of the Monkie Kids)
It reminds me of this scene from 3x09:
Tumblr media
Macaque: "How do you still not see that he has no idea what he’s doing?"
(3x09 The King, the Prince, and the Shadow)
And, along with this parallel to MK—our poster boy of low self-esteem/belief—I just have to say I'm a little worried about our girl! I'm so excited to see where her character arc goes in the future, especially with how her own self-doubt is going to mesh with her duty to her friends.
I was thinking about it earlier—and as a fun little bonus theory at the end of this meta—I wonder if a Mei VS MK fight is in the cards for us. The line "They will destroy you, harbinger of chaos" doesn't fill me with much confidence, however I also doubt any of the main cast is going to fight MK with the intent of destroying him. So, that got me thinking that maybe they're going to fight MK to save MK, in a sense. I'm a "Mei is going to get a dragon form" truther (thank you Lego set), and Mei unlocking her dragon form while trying to save MK would be ONE hell of a way to debut it.
Anyways, I'm going to cut this off here, but tldr: Mei deserves better.

Hello. how are you? can you do a red son x sister! Reader? I can imagine him being a bit protective when it comes to MK and the others and even more protective when it comes to the Lady Bone Demon.
I'm doinggg goood, tryin to catch up on missing worrrk ! and sure !!
Siblings! <3
Redson x sibling gn reader [fluff]
Tumblr media
Redson treats you with respect, he doesn't follow you around a lot but he does check on you from time to time making sure you're alright. But when it comes to MK and Mei hanging out with you, he's protective. You guys don't have many friends besides MK and Mei. Well, Redson doesn't see them as his friends but you do.
"Hey, Reader! Wanna go jump off that building and see who can land the safest?!"
"Sure!"
"Absolutely, NOT!"
He's scared they might hurt you or take advantage of you in some way and that's why he's so protective. He's just worried about what if something happens to you. And he worries about you being alone. So he's always at your side whenever the two of you are together with them. When the four of you go out to eat at Pigsy's, he'll sit right beside you and make sure everyone is okay and no one tries anything funny. With Wukong, Redson will never let you be around him by yourself because he knows how dangerous Wukong is. [in his opinion]
He doesn't want you to end up under a mountain like father nor does he want him to hurt you, even if the world is ending Redson will never let you interact with Wukong. He doesn't trust him at all. So he'll always make sure that you're always within arm's reach of him. Redson knows how much you're a fan of Wukong and he hates that it would cost you your life. He doesn't want that. So yes, Redson is very protective of you and he will protect you as long as you need him to. He's really REALLY protective of you when it comes to LBD, he saw what it did to your guy's father. So if it hurts you he'd rather die than let anyone hurt you and if you ever get hurt by LBD then Redson will make damn sure she regret hurting you. Even if it means killing her. He cares about you a lot and you're the only family member that loves hanging out with him. You love talking and building and rebuilding things with him it makes him happy, really happy. He also enjoys listening to you rant about any random shit you read while he sits and does his work. You love watching him do things. He's really proud of you for doing what you love.

platonic x reader hcs for mk, mei, and red son plz, what would it be like to be best friends with them?
꒰୨୧﹒Lego Monkie Kid - Hcs for Being Best Friends with Mk, Mei, and Red Son
Ofc! Thanks for the request, here you go Anon.
Warnings: None
Tumblr media
Mk
• Hope you don't mind the clingy type, because that's the kind of friend Mk is. Once you two are close, and if you're comfortable with it, he'll have an arm hooked onto yours or slung around your shoulders. No matter where you two are, he'll find some way to end up physically close to you, even if it isn't on purpose
• You're that one pair of friends who everyone looks at and goes "are they dating? Or are they really close friends?" Obviously, in this case, it's the latter, but it's amusing to see the looks of utter confusion on people's faces (including Mks' because he currently has no idea that people wonder if you're a couple, so he gets really confused when he sees you smiling/laughing about it)
• He's addicted to mobile games. Half the games on your phone is likely due to his recommendations (and also because he needs more people to play with him, especially since Mei prefers console gaming). For multi-player apps, he'll call you during his break or free time and ask if you wanna play a round of two
• Movie nights! Whether they're in-person or through a video call, movie nights are a common occurrence in your friendship with Mk. He often invites the rest of the gang to join, but when they're not available, it'll just be you two tangled up on his couch with all the snacks you bought earlier and watching a cheesy movie together
• Mk LOVES cartoons, they're his absolute favorite! He's always trying to get you to binge them with him. He loves it even more when you rant to him about the story and characters
• If you're an artist, he asks if he can look through your sketchbook. If you let him, he'll fawn all over your drawings and praise every piece. He'll immediately start bombarding you with questions about art tips, and if you so happen to have any, he'll be sure to try them out the next time he draws. It's adorable how excited he is
• If you ever go on a walk or run, Mk would love to keep you company! After all, he needs to stay active if he's going to be the Monkey King's successor. Plus, its a good excuse to spend time with you
• He is genuinely the sweetest. Mk does his best to make you feel comfortable with him. He wants you to be able to trust him and feel safe when you're around him. He'll take mental notes of your likes, dislikes, boundaries, etc. If you're feeing down, he'll be at your side in an instant (unless you clarify that you need space). He does his best to listen, and he'll do his best to cheer you up in any way he can
• He gets so flustered if you smother him with compliments. He's not used to the extra attention, so it's one of his biggest weak points
• I hc that he's around 5'3" or 5'4" ft. If you're taller than him, use him as an armrest lol. He might pout and pretend he's annoyed but he honestly doesn't mind the contact. He also loves hitching a ride on your shoulders
Tumblr media
Mei Dragon
• The two of you are attached by the hip. Pigsy swears that 90% of the time he sees you, you're hanging out with her. You and Mei practically do everything together; shopping, playing games, getting up to all sorts of shenanigans, you name it! Mei is a huge social butterfly, so expect a lot of "are you free on [insert date]?" type questions
• Tons of late night conversations. She'll text you at 3 in the morning with an arsenal of corny memes and weird conversation starters (ex. "do fishies ever get thirsty?"). It happens so often that you're not even surprised by it anymore, you just go along with it. You're also very concerned for her sleep schedule
• Always invites you and Mk to attend concerts with her. She thinks they're more fun with friends. The night before the concert, the three of you will sleep over at Mk's place. Sometimes Mk will fall asleep early after being tuckered out from work or training (or both), giving you and Mei plenty of time to plan a good old-fashioned prank on him
• Adding onto the last headcanon, if you aren't able to attend the concert, she'll be sure to buy merch for you. It'll usually be a t-shirt or poster
• When you two are hanging around in Pigsy's noodles, Mei tries to get you to do a bunch of Internet dances ([shudders], Tiktok dances, if you will) with her. Even if you don't think you're much of a dancer, she'll just be happy that you wanted to do them with her
• Another activity Mei enjoys is karaoke! This is more something that the whole gang participates in together. Just wait. You, Mei, and Mk are going to end up belting a song at some point
• Matching outfits!! She ADORES matching outfits with you, especially jackets. She thinks it's makes you two look cool. Whenever you two go clothes shopping, I can guarantee you'll both end up with at least one piece of matching clothing. Her favorite is a pair of matching motorcycle jackets, which the two of you displayed while riding her motorcycle together
• You'll always be up to date on all of Mei's interests. She loves to ramble about overly-convoluted storylines of shows shes been watching or the thrilling mechanics of a newly-released game. She'll also let you ramble about your interests. She loves getting to know what you like, and even tries to learn more about that topic herself
• Mei has gaming livestreams and no one can convince me otherwise. Every now and then, she'll invite you onto the stream to play with her. If you're nervous about people watching you, she'll do her best to make you feel comfortable and reassure you that it's all in good fun
• Don't let her eccentric personality fool you, Mei is observant. She knows exactly what voice patterns and mannerisms indicate even the tiniest hint of sadness. Once that's been identified, her mind jumps straight into comfort mode. She's by your side in an instant, letting you know that she's not leaving your side. If you wanna talk about it, she'll listen, and even give her own advice if you wish for her to do so. If you don't want to talk about it, she'll sit with you and allow you to collect yourself. Afterwards, she'll help you find a distraction
• Oh my god she buys you so many gifts, especially during your birthday or the holidays. Sometimes she'll stop by your house with a little bag in her hand and say "I saw this while checking out all the shops, thought you might like it!" For the most part, price doesn't seem to bother her, so expect some really extravagant gifts on special occasions
Tumblr media
Red Son
• You're one of, if not the only people who can get away with teasing him. The most he'll do is send a couple of "murder glares" your way, but it's obvious that he's all bark and no bite. Try not to abuse your power. Then again, to quote Simpsons, "I'm a sign, not a cop"
• There are perks to having an inventor as a friend. Have a broken piece of machinery? Red Son can fix it! Having trouble completing a task? Red Son has an invention to help! You'd think that he would mind having extra work, but honestly, he loves getting the chance to show off his intelligence and fancy gadgets
• There is a caring side to his fiery attitude. Even if he doesn't always know what he's doing, he can't bring himself to let one of his closest friends struggle alone, so he'll try his best to accommodate for you. If you're sick or feeling nauseous, he'll lay you down immediately and brew you a soothing cup of tea. If you're upset or angry about something, he'll keep a hand on yours as he silently listens to you vent. Hell, he'll even create some sort of "punching bag" if you need to physically release your frustrations
• He makes you binge cooking shows with him. While watching, he'll give you a run-down on all the different culinary techniques that the chefs use. It's like a mini-cooking lesson. Oh, and don't think you aren't getting away with watching people make all sorts of delicious recipes without trying to make one together, because he is 100% roping you into doing that with him
• Red Son loves self-care products and cosmetics, so every so often, the two of you will have spa days! Initially, they're likely going to be at your place since he isn't fond of doing it at home. The two of you lounge around while pampering each other and complaining about random inconveniences
• We all know he's loaded with cool modes of transportation (ex. his race car), and as his friend, you have the honor of riding them with him! As for driving said vehicles, lets just say that's going to take some convincing on your part
• If you think he’s going to call you by your name/some variation of your name, think again. He’s got a bunch of personalized nicknames for you (similar to how he calls Mk "Noodle Boy" and Mei "Dragon Girl")
• You two will get into arguments/debates over the dumbest topics, like whether water is wet or not. Considering how stubborn Red Son can be, this can go on for hours on end, but don't worry, you two know it's all in good fun (most of the time)
• Though he refuses to admit it, he's a bit of a music fanatic. He has several playlists in his library, some of which are organized by genre while the others are organized by artist. He can easily give you song/artist recommendations
• One of Red Son's favorite activities to do in his free time is meditation! He often encourages you to join him, as it's a great getaway from the stress of daily life. You two set up a spot outside, somewhere quiet and far away from society, and meditate under the sunset

In your consequences AU (I hope this is ok t ask about), does Nezha ever feel… threatened by MK and Mei? As in “Dad has two babies to take care of, he does not need me around.”
ur good dude :) (also i kinda said more then needed hahaaa sry. i like talking about them"
hmmmmm not really? cause while wukong is the parent nezha fuffils alot of the parental beside him and macaque.
so all three of them have duties/ A job and this is just a general HC.
macaques a mercenary and wukong and nezha are sometimes called up to heaven. so they tend to all have something other then hyperactive chidren to take care off.
so the three of them switch around responsibilities and that includes the two hyperactive/hyperpowerful babies in the house. Nezha is that older brother that changes diapers, cooks when the parents cant, help out with sorting any bills and stuff. nezha has HUGE sense of responsibility.
and so while he does realise that he has to share his dad he doesnt mind all that much, cause now he has little siblings. when theyre still young and even when theyre older nezha enjoys reverting to his younger form and be...well a child and relax. when swk cant pry his attention away from something to be with nezha, mei and mk can.
nezha in his younger form is still nezha, but ynow just a lot more laid back and kinda silly. he doesnt have as many walls up.
the only one he does get jelous and annoyed by is macaque. ar first he truly wonders why his mother wants to keep that dumpster cat around but eventually warms up to the guy where its just playful banter instead of "stay the fuck away from my father"
also wukong and nezha have had a lot of time togetor so even if that thought came intrusivly he knows, because wukong has made this clear often. he loves nezha, there will never be a time where he will "not need him around" something wukong always makes sure his children knows is that there will nver be a time he does not need them anymore.
"no matter what happens, no matter who comes into our lives, no matter who joins our family. I will love you all unconditionally. and if there ever comes a time when you need me I will not hesitate to pull you into my arms"
so yeah if nezha ever DOES feel that way which yeah he has trauma, he has issues, intrusive thoughts happen he just changes into his kid form, plops his head on his mothers arm. she asks him whats wrong.
"you....hhnmmnneed mefkjdsjnsdf"
"lotus."
"mmhsdjfkldsjkjjg"
"lotus your gonna need to speak up"
lil nezha looks up at his mother, tears forming at the corners of his eyes.
"you dont need me anymore...."
suddenly nezha is pulled into a tight bear hug off the ground and spun around then pulled in close tightly.
"my family has grown nezha, so has yours. those are your siblings. mac-
"no"
"hahokay, well they arent only my family. xiaojiao and xiaotian love you as much as i do. also i locked my elbows your not going anywhere"
"huh?!?!? BABA!!"
"i love you too lotus, and i forever will"
to summarize, somtimes but only because of what hes been through. he dosnt actually believe it so whenever those thoughts come he just lets swk scoop him into her arms and tell him she loves him.
he doesnt often because now instead of only swk he has little siblings to love him and he loves them.

Prompt 63; Sun Wukong and Sandy, becayse Sandy deserves to be pissed at Sun Wukong for leaving as much as Pigsy.
So this prompt was sent in well before S2E8... and now I have the chance to use that as a very fun basis for my own head canons! (Even though 1 is very debatable.)
I believed you! I stood up for you! Defended you! And you lied!
It was only a matter of time before Wukong was confronted by Sandy. The moment he saw the aquatic demon after the defeat of the Spider Queen at the Lunar New Year festival he knew that he was on borrowed time. Now, on the air ship... drone... thingy, there was no time left and he knew that Sandy would eventually want to talk. Alone.
"You lied to us, left us, and we couldn't find you."
"... I thought you wouldn't come looking for me," Wukong said, looking down over the edge of the ship. It was dark, well into the very early hours of the morning, and he couldn't sleep. Apparently he hadn't been the only one, Sandy sneaking up behind him. He must have been more off his game than he realized.
"You're a dumbass," Sandy retorted back at him, tone more tired and sad than anything else this time. He was more blunt than Sandy had ever heard him around MK or the others. "Of course we would have looked for you. We're brothers."
"I know that now," Wukong admitted. "I just... I guess I wasn't thinking clearly. That's not a good- no, there isn't an excuse for just leaving like that."
"Look, I get it," Sandy continued on, moving to stand right beside his once-brother. "In a way, now at least. You'd just fought someone you used to consider a sworn-brother for the second time. Had to do to him what was done to you to keep him from hurting people. But you lied to us."
"I know."
"You told us before you left that you'd come back and you didn't!"
"I know!"
"I believed you! I stood up for you! Defended you when people said you were never going to come back! And you lied!"
"I know!" Wukong snapped, louder than Sandy had raised his own voice, teeth barred and growling under his words. "I know, Wujing, I lied to you! But I can't take that back!"
Sandy pinched the bridge of his nose, taking in a deep calming breath before continuing. "... I know too. What's past is past, we can't change it now. We just have to work with what we have."
"... that sounds like something master would say."
"It was something he said." Sandy sighed. "He probably misses you a lot, you know. I hadn't been up there in years... couldn't bring myself to step foot there when Red Son took us there to get the ingredients for the anti-venom."
"I can't believe no one has gone after you all for that... maybe master had a hand in that."
"Or they're still scared of The Handsome Monkey King who once wrecked Havoc in Heaven," Sandy said with a ghost of a smile. Wukong couldn't help but chuckle at that, soft and almost as much of a ghost. "But I think he did. They probably know... at least a bit. Definitely that you're back and about MK. Everything else, I don't know."
"If they did I think we wouldn't be in this mess right now." Wukong bit his lip, scowling. "I should have swallowed my pride and asked for help. Gone to master or Guanyin or even the Jade Emperor."
"But what's past is past," Sandy repeated. "We work with what we have."
Wukong laughed again, this time cold and bitter and hollow.
"What we have is a shapeshifted super strong celestial who doesn't like to fight, a really kick ass dragon girl, just some guy who knows way more than he should, two monkies who don't even have half their powers anymore, and..." He trailed off, looking back at the entrance to the inside of the ship. "And..."
"Pigsy."
"Bajie," Wukong countered. "But... not Bajie anymore."
It had been a shock when he had seen the four of them at the Lunar New Year festival. It was like the past had returned with a new coat of paint and slapped him in the face.
Mei had the same aura as her ancestor, Bai Long Ma, radiating off her in droves. She even looked similar to one of the dragon's multiple human forms. And she and MK looked inseparable.
Tang looked... a lot like Tripitaka. Even shared his name, to an extent. He didn't have same aura as his master but there was something about him that made him wonder if maybe he could be a distant relation.
Sandy was Wujing. That was much was clear to him. He looked different but his voice was the same as always and Wukong could see his power shining through him so clearly.
And then there had been Pigsy. He looked so much like Bajie and yet so different and Wukong thought he must have just been a fluke. But no... no, he chanced a quick glance at them all with his True Sight and could see them for who they were.
'Bai Long Mas dragon aura. Tang a normal human. Sha Wujing's powerful water demon visage he couldn't forget.
And Zhu Bajie's too.
"Does he... remember anything?" Wukong asked, watching a flock of birds keep pace with the ship. Or bats, possibly, given the lack of sunlight. He couldn't tell, much like how he couldn't tell how far away they were. Not anymore... Not yet.
"No," Sandy answered.
"Good." Wukong breathed out a shaky breath, remembering how it felt when the chef had berated him. It felt so... similar he almost thought... "Good... it's better for everyone if he doesn't. Especially MK, he wouldn't... he wouldn't take knowing one of his actual parental figures had been lying to him. It's bad enough you and I do."
The two fell into a silence, watching as the sun began to rise above horizon. It was almost nice. For a moment.
"How did he die?"
Sandy tensed. "Is this really the conversation you want to have at sun rise?"
"Yes," Wukong answered immediately, no hesitation in his voice whatsoever. "I've put it off too long. I'll learn eventually, it's pretty clear we're not going to be able to run from our past for much longer, so why put it off anymore?"
The silence returned once again as the two watched the mountains they slowly flew over gain an orange-gold hue of early morning. Wukong used to love watching the sunrise, either up early enough that it was just him and Tripitaka or centuries later on his mountain home with his monkey court. No matter what happened? If he was able to watch it he felt like things would be alright.
Now the sight left a bittersweet taste in his mouth that he wasn't sure would ever leave.
"Battle," Sandy eventually said. "After you left... a lot of demons were angry, far angrier than before, and there was no order with DBK locked under that mountain. It wasn't nearly as bad as before but it was more widespread and chaotic. Bajie and I left our new stations in the Celestial Court and returned to the mortal realm to protect the humans and he..." He sighed, leaning forward on the railing to look down, away from the sunlight. "We underestimated an opponent. Bajie took a hit meant for me and... I-I don't remember much after that."
"I can imagine why," Wukong said softly. He'd seen how into battle Wujing get when truly angered, losing himself in rage until his opponent was no more. It only ever happened when one of them had been hurt.
"When I realized that I had... When I went to check on him he was already gone," Sandy continued, wringing his fingers together. "If I had just worked on my anger sooner, long before then, maybe I would have left with him and he wouldn-"
"No," Wukong interrupted firmly, standing straight to glare at Sandy. It wasn't an angry glare, but a sad one. "No, Wujing, you have no way of knowing how bad he was... it may not have... never mind, let's not think about that."
"Go on, say it," Sandy insisted, gripping the railing. "I think I've needed someone to say it for a long time because I can't say it to myself. Please."
"... he... he may have already been gone before you blacked out," Wukong said softly, watching as Sandy tensed and wincing as the railing warped and groaned under his grip.
But eventually he calmed, relaxed and loosed that grip and sighed.
"He probably was," he admitted, standing straight and watching the clouds above them. "... I'm still pissed at you."
"You should be," Wukong said as he pushed away from the railing with a pained groan. His wounds still hurt, treatment and time or not. "You deserve to be. I made a lot of mistakes."
"You can make up for most of them." Sandy stretched, offering a half smile. "You've been trying already. I can tell how much you're trying to watch MK when he thinks you aren't around now. And how you've been bugging Pigsy."
"Even if he doesn't remember I guess I... wanna make up for lost time," Wukong said with a chance of a smile of his own.
The two of them turned to head inside, Sandy moving slower than usual to accommodate for the king's slower gait with his limp. His injured knee would take a long time to heal without his usual powers now.
"I'm going to tell them," Sandy suddenly said as he reached to open the door. "About me being Wujing. We can't afford to keep running from our pasts, brother. Not anymore."
The way Sandy said his name, as soft and welcoming as he ever had on their journey made Wukong pause. He almost surprised himself when he felt something running down his left cheek, realizing that his now injured eye made it harder to hide how he felt when the damaged tear ducts and added sensitivity let the tears run free.
"Not anymore," he agreed.
And Sandy opened the door and they headed inside.
