the moving finger // agatha christie
first published: 1942 read: 04 january 2025 - 06 january 2025 pages: 240 format: e-book
genres: fiction; mystery; crime; detective favourite character(s): megan and joanna least favourite character(s): aimée griffith first line: "when at last i was taken out of the plaster, and the doctors had pulled me about to their hearts' content, and nurses had wheedled me into cautiously using my limbs, and i had been nauseated by their practically using baby talk to me, Marcus Kent told me i was to go and live in the country."
rating: 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗 thoughts: very glad to pick up the moving finger as i read the second marple mystery all the way back in september. this mystery did not disappoint! while i thought the body in the library was a little better, i still had a lot of fun with this one, despite miss marple herself taking a bit of a backseat!
despite taking place in a little village, we meet a whole host of characters, any one of whom you could point the finger at as being the culprit. i did get a little confused with the very large cast and made a couple of notes here and there to jog my memory, but eventually it started coming to me a little easier. however, it meant there were a ton of potential culprits and i certainly had a time trying to outsmart the author and figure out who really did it. i didn't get it right, but it was fun trying! speaking of characters, miss marple didn't show up until very late and was a less important piece of the puzzle than she usually is. however, we do instead focus on jerry burton, who i really enjoyed as a main character. he's likeable and clever, and i liked reading along with his attempts to solve the mystery and suss out the townspeople.
the mystery was clever; obscure enough to mislead a reader like me, but with enough hints for someone tuned in enough to potentially hit the nail on the head. i liked how it all unfolded, with some interesting parts in there like the scrap of paper (i won't reveal too much!).
i'm very much enjoying my journey with miss marple, and looking forward to reading a murder is announced!

REDWOOD CITY – The No. 4 California women's rowing team dominated the duel against No. 7 Washington sweeping all five races Saturday morning at the Redwood Shores in Redwood City. With the Bears' win in the V8+ race, the Simpson Cup, which goes to the winner of the varsity eight race, comes back to Cal for the first time since 2019. Cal's 2V8+, 3V8+, 4V8+ and V4+ also notched wins in the duel. This marks the second time this season the V8+, 3V8+ and V4+ defeated Washington as the two faced off at the San Diego Crew Classic earlier this month. "Washington brought out the best in us today," Cal head coach Al Acosta said. "We've done quite a bit of racing and travel over the last three weeks, so I was a little concerned about how much juice we'd have for this one, but the team did an amazing job of going stroke for stroke with the Huskies early and then extending the margin later in the race. Four years ago, when our seniors were freshmen, we got swept by UW, so it's very gratifying to see the seniors get this one. Now that we're halfway through the season I think we're in a good spot, but we have some big races coming up and it's not going to get any easier so we will need to continue to get faster." In the V8+ race, both boats were even through the first 20 strokes before Cal took a two-seat lead in the first 500 meters. As the boats approached the 1,000-meter mark, the Bears were ahead by a half boat. Cal kept the pressure on over the third 500 meters and extended its lead to a seat of open water. The Bears maintained that margin to take the victory in a time of 6:08.8 and bring home the Simpson Cup.
In the matchup of the 2V8+, it was fairly even off the start with Cal taking just a one-seat lead over the first 20 strokes. As the boats hit the halfway mark, the Bears kept their lead and went ahead by two seats. Cal kept the pressure on over the third 500 meters and went ahead by a half boat before extending its lead to almost a full boat over the closing 500 meters to take the win in 6:20.2. In the 3V8+ race, it was tight over the first 500 meters until Cal took a four-seat lead at the 1,000-meter mark. The Bears were able to extend their lead to open water over the third 500 meters and held that lead to finish first in a time of 6:33.2. In the 4V8+ duel, the first 500 meters were close before the Bears took a three-seat lead by the halfway mark. Cal was able to extend its lead over the third 500 meters and went ahead by a bit of open water to take the win in a time of 6:46.9. In the V4+ race, Cal got off to a good start and went ahead by two seats within the first 20 strokes. The Huskies were able to walk back a seat and pulled nearly even over the first 500 meters. By the time Cal hit the halfway mark, it was ahead by almost a boat length. The Bears continued to press and built an open-water lead over the second half of the race to get the win in a time of 6:46.9. The Bears will have next weekend off before competing in the Big Row against No. 1 Stanford on May 4 at the Redwood Shores. Results V8+ 1. Cal – 6:08.8 2. Washington – 6:12.6 2V8+ 1. Cal – 6:20.2 2. Washington – 6:23.2
3V8+ 1. Cal – 6:33.2 2. Washington – 6:40.8 4V8+ 1. Cal – 6:46.9 2. Washington – 6:50.6 V4+ 1. Cal – 6:46.9 2. Looking for Alaska
TV Shows/Dramas watched in 2023
Looking for Alaska (2019, USA)
Directors: Sarah Adina Smith, Rachel Lee Goldenberg, Brett Haley, Ami Canaan Mann, Clea DuVall, Megan Griffiths, Rashaad Ernesto Green & Josh Schwartz
Writers: Josh Schwartz, Warren Hsu Leonard, Stephanie Savage, Ashley Wigfield, Kirk A. Moore, Leila Gerstein & Kendall Rogers
Mini-review:
There are a lot of good book-to-movie/TV adaptations. However, there is something that's a lot rarer: an adaptation that improves on the original in pretty much every way. Looking for Alaska is one of those. Going for a miniseries instead of a movie means that everything is much more fleshed out, from the characters to the setting and the themes. The show also perfectly captures the atmosphere of the novel. I've always felt that atmosphere was what made this book so special and popular, and this adaptation made me feel exactly the same. I must admit, though, I still don't like Miles as a lead character, like at all. But, since the other characters get as much focus as him, I didn't dislike him as much as I did in the book.
What's more, the cast is absolutely spectacular. They all nail their roles. I seriously can't think of many teen movies/shows with such fantastic acting. Kristine Froseth and Denny Love are particularly showstopping and I was really surprised (and disappointed) to see they didn't get any award nominations. They're truly that good. Lastly, I want to talk about the setting. I just loved Culver Creek, the pranks, the locations, everything. I honestly wish they would have turned this into some sort of anthology where we follow a different set of Culver Creek students in each season. Seriously, the setting has so much potential. Anyway, this is easily one of the best book adaptations I've ever seen, and I'm really glad I decided to watch it.

Education Fair at Ela Green School: Pathway to the US
Recently, Ela Green School hosted a foreign delegation as part of the “Pathway to the US: Education Fair,” which was one of the most eagerly awaited events. The primary purpose of the event was to take students, parents, teachers, and other interested people through what America has to offer within its institutions of higher learning. The event was a real triumph owing to the combined efforts of the delegates on a visit and the teachers from the school.
Esteemed Delegates and Their Contributions
In the course of the fair, there was a long list of delegates with knowledge of international education:
Megan Mankerian, founder and executive director at Global Leaders Collective
Sami Smith, Assistant Director for International Admissions, High Point University
Fred Griffiths, the director of international programs at Klamath Community College
Apurva Shaurya, Representative from RIT Dubai
Bryant Dowd, Representative from Chapman University
This is just to say that every delegate contributed to the knowledge rogue of the Ela Green community regarding the motives and procedures of studying in the United States, from course selection and university choices to financial management and scholarships.
Insights from Megan Mankerian
Megan Mankerian, with 13+ years of experience in international education, conducted one of the most lively and thought-provoking sessions in the training. Considering the students, she taught them how American education works and what benefits studying abroad brings. For parents, Megan organized a special session on issues such as financial resources, choosing the right course, and how IB students gain an advantage during the admissions process.
Objectives and significance of the visiting delegates
The major aim of the delegates' visit was to arm Ela Green students with the knowledge and tools that they need to take charge of their academics. The audience was intended to guide on issues such as:
Course selection and safe universities or institutions to consider: Sourcing for university courses suitable for students based on their interests and present and future career aspirations.
In financial planning and finding aid, Books, Scholarship, and Aid: Counseling on how to deal with the financial side of higher education and searching for available loans and scholarships.
Shaping of students’s profiles: How students can develop a strong academic portfolio and extra activities to increase their chances of getting admitted to top universities.
Direct engagement and networking: creating a chance for students to meet the university representatives, address queries, and build networks.
The Delegates' Address to the Ela Green Community
In their address, the delegates thanked the administration for the possibility of coming to Ela Green School and outlined the necessity of proper thinking before choosing a future path. They made a comprehensive put on how the US higher education system is, including the differences that are preset between the university, college, and community college. The delegates also spoke about academic requirements and academics, co-curricular activities, and financial needs. The students were prompted to not only focus on studies but all aspects of campus life, which is accommodation and adjustment to the new environment away from home.
The Role of Ela Green's University Counsellor
Amaya Lal, who was the university counselor at Ela Green School, helped in organizing this event. This made sure that the delegates delivered the most relevant issues and helped the students liaise with the university representatives in some ways. Amaya arranged each delegate at individual stands whereby students engaged the delegate, asking questions requiring precise answers.
Benefits to Ela Green Students
The students who attended the fair walked away with several key benefits:
Informed Decision-Making: Students were well informed on course materials, financial aspects, and university information that enabled them to make evident choices regarding the academic progress they wished to pursue.
Direct Interaction with University Representatives: Because there was a representative of the institution present, it was easy for students to express their concerns and receive satisfactory answers.
Understanding the Admissions Process: Such activities in turn enabled students to have a comforting knowledge of the U.S. university admission prerequisites.
Exploration of Financial Aid and Scholarships: Students became conversant with many financial assistance programs, including scholarship schemes, which are pertinent to strategizing educational objectives.
Profile Enhancement Tips: Advice on how to enhance academic and non-academic activities will help make any applications comprehensively competitive.
Exposure to Campus Life: Experiences on what living on a campus in America is like provided students with realistic expectations of accommodation and adjustment in a new culture.
Ongoing Support and Updates: Due to the completion of forms offered by the delegates, students guaranteed that they would receive further details about the regular application schedules and other important aspects.
Ela Green School students had a wonderful experience at the “Pathway to the US Education Fair” and gained the knowledge and the courage to tackle the difficult process of applying for and selecting a suitable university. Understanding that it is not enough for students to just attend school, the institution strives to ensure that all students can reach their educational and professional goals by providing them with such opportunities.

FALLOUT SEASON 2 Teaser 2026 Announcement and New Vegas Easter Eggs
youtube
The girl is his wife and can't stand them and tries to hit him and they look like they're working together not really. The guy is an idiot and as a radiated badly and yeah he leaves his body and doesn't come back so it's a clone body by now piece by piece he was dismantled and he won't go to Concord sleepy hollow where his body sits his too afraid to obviously it's a Mac headquarters but he doesn't want to bring his people back because he is is schizophrenic thier his people. He tried to make our son sick and delusional it didn't work but it's working on himself and that's trump. He's nuts. This is about New Vegas too and you can see the city and they put up a barrier that's makeshift and it didn't work and too many rating parties went there and they couldn't keep them out and their huge fights they started using nukes on people but yeah they were grabbing stuff and it gets ruined but you see an image of a city getting blown up and his son is trying to figure out if it's old or new and in a way you can't really tell you can't tell where it is it looks like the Griffith it observatory but we know it's not it's like what they show LA blowing up in The Terminator people don't think that it's la but he thinks it might be and trying to force themselves to run their plan and the max are too and if they want to play Mass they want to blame us and they're blowing each other up so I'm not sure how that's going to go but we understand the thinking and what they go through to get there sometimes and it's a problem for them so it's kind of weird but that's why it happens and in Los Angeles upset a little bit because it's topside and it's not really huge reasons to do it usually unless they have things are hiding and they can't get you can't get to it and he doesn't think so in Los Angeles anyone can go in and out he's kind of upset a little bit we are too those places are historical especially Los Angeles he was there so and you guys blow it up parts of it and other cities too but mostly Los Angeles saying that it's the City of Angels and such and it does have an effect they do try to attack and they suck and then find Max and attack them and Non-Stop and they do go until they're gone but that's what they did and it's something chose to do in the future we believe. This is a huge huge huge event and an important part of the war and to know why it's really important because it's a tragedy and to make a New Vegas and that fails it's rather small with small casinos that's what Megan said and it really is there and it felt really good and they're happy about it it looks like westborough and they don't look that bad don't like to talk about these people are awful and the check and they look fine but really the back proper of God a little overboard and these guys suck it's just such assholes and they haven't gotten anywhere that'll bring us to the current day we're going to the right amount and I'm pleased to put this up this is important
Thor Freya
And my husband says I am doing it it's hard to look at his face but it's hard to prove the series he doesn't care about it that much and is mad at Los Angeles but he knows about the symbology they also knows that they're a waste of damn time and they're ruining things from history because they don't have them you're kind of means they don't believe what you're doing but they just keep doing it it's gross and then it is what it really is
