Update on my meditation app trials:
1. I've decided to uninstall Insight Timer -- it's a very good meditation app, with a seemingly limitless number of courses and individual meditations, but many of them require a paid subscription to access. As well, the sleep stories (which I need) have background music -- random musical notes typical for meditation practice. Unfortunately, I find that music of any kind actually prevents me from falling asleep.
2. Medito is good, although it has far fewer programmes -- interestingly, the basic meditation course is much longer than the one offered by Insight Timer. Another plus: it's completely free (but they take donations). There are a few downsides with this one, though. Firstly, it sometimes glitches -- you have to press play several times to get the session to begin, which is really frustrating when you're trying to meditate! Also, the sleep stories often stop playing halfway through, forcing you to restart or choose another. They also begin and end very abruptly -- almost as if they're excerpts from a larger story.
3. Even though meditation doesn't seem to work for me, I do miss Balance -- the sleep stories definitely help. And although there are only two instructors on this app, both have very soothing voices. And Balance is also secular-focussed, which is a plus for me -- I'm NOT a spiritual person at all.
Hopefully, I'll be able to start a new account with Balance and get another free year (I've heard that you can do that).

Meditation Session With Healing

Meditation Session With Healing
Meditation
Meditation is a practice that has been around for centuries, and it is known for its numerous benefits for the mind and body. Many people use meditation as a way to relax, reduce stress, and improve their overall well-being. However, meditation can also be a powerful tool for healing, both physically and emotionally.
Recently, I had the opportunity to participate in a meditation session that was focused on healing. The session was led by a trained meditation teacher who had a background in healing and energy work. The experience was truly transformative, and I would like to share some of the insights that I gained from the session.
The first thing that I noticed was the setting. The meditation was held in a quiet and peaceful room with soft lighting and calming music. The teacher began by guiding us through a series of breathing exercises that helped us to relax and let go of any tension or stress that we were carrying.
As we continued to breathe deeply, the teacher led us through a guided visualization. We were asked to imagine a warm and healing light entering our bodies, flowing through our cells and tissues, and healing any areas that needed attention. This visualization helped me to focus on the areas of my body that needed healing, and it also helped me to feel a sense of peace and relaxation.
The teacher then encouraged us to focus on our emotions. We were asked to bring to mind any emotions that we were struggling with, such as anxiety, sadness, or anger. We were then guided through a process of acknowledging these emotions, allowing ourselves to feel them, and then releasing them. This was a powerful process that helped me to let go of some of the emotional baggage that I had been carrying around.
The meditation session ended with a few minutes of silent meditation. During this time, I felt a sense of stillness and calm that I had not experienced in a long time. I felt deeply relaxed and at peace.
After the session, I spoke with the teacher about the healing aspect of meditation. She explained that meditation can be a powerful tool for healing because it helps us to connect with our bodies and our emotions. When we are able to connect with ourselves in this way, we can begin to release the negative emotions and physical tension that are holding us back from healing.
Overall, my experience with meditation and healing was truly transformative. I learned that meditation can be a powerful tool for healing both physically and emotionally, and that it is something that everyone can benefit from. Whether you are struggling with physical pain, emotional distress, or simply want to improve your overall well-being, meditation can help you to connect with your inner self and begin the healing process.

i downloaded that app that lets you customize your own soundscapes because i was like well this probably still won't be for me but i'll try it out just to see. first i set up a cafe with loud babble so i could eavesdrop on the table next to me, but there was only about 2 minutes of recorded audio. so once i memorized the conversation, i moved on to an irish coastal seascape, where i discovered that you can set the sliders to "drowning in the open ocean." that legitimately relaxed me so much that my headache went away but after about 20 minutes my brain adapted enough for the Voices (TM) to return, so i turned to a thunderstorm where all the thunder sliders were turned up to 100% power. so you feel like you're in the middle of bullshit tornado country. after all this i discovered there's a haunted mansion soundscape already so. i guess i'll get some mileage out of this thing yeah.

i am once again recommending that, if you live in the middle of nowhere and your public library is lacking in digital resources, see if you can get an ecard through the largest library system in your state (for example, i live in massachusetts, so for me it's the boston public library). often they'll give you a card for free (or a nominal fee in some cases) if you have in-state residence, even if you don't live in the city it's in. it doesn't give you access to everything, obviously, but it's how i've accessed libby and kanopy for years even though the one in my town doesn't offer those services, and i just checked and they've expanded access to also include things like comic books, daily newspapers, and a meditation app. obviously it's gonna vary state to state but it's definitely worth a try!

today was nice! i woke up & did some blurbin which took longer than anticipated because i do really like the rosie tucker album and think it’s doing something very special… then i used the meditation app that autorenewed after i neglected it for like a year lol. attempting to regain some semblance of a Calm Morning Practice even if it’s 3 minutes of breathing while a lady tells me it’s ok if my mind wanders…. i finished my workout program \o/ and am either starting again tomorrow orrrrr not depending on how my legs feel in the morning. i also am trying to get back into reading with a lil bit of confederate reckoning on the treadmill (experimenting with my steps/sleep hypothesis) & a bunch of js&mn on the train… last session ever with today’s student! the wind down is winding! i did some work at the library before going home and some puttering about at home getting ready for tomorrow (including writing tomorrow’s blurb tonight… crazy concept…) and some foam rolling in the hopes of encouraging everyone (my quads and hamstrings) to keep it chill. and now it is time for more book!

Trying out two new meditation apps -- Medito (completely free, but they accept donations) and Insight Timer (free, with a paid option for more features). Not sure yet which one I prefer.
I do miss Balance, though.

Something strange has happened to the idea of privacy in our surreal time. Instead of being cherished, it appears to have become, for many people in the West, especially young people, a valueless quality—actually undesirable. If a thing is not made public, it doesn't really exist. Your dog, your wedding, your beach, your baby, your dinner, the interesting meme you recently saw—these things need, on a daily basis, to be shared. In India, privacy is a luxury of the rich. The poor, living in small, overcrowded spaces, are never alone. Many impoverished Indians have to perform the most private of acts, their natural bodily functions, out of doors. To have a room of one's own, one must have money. (I don't think Virginia Woolf ever went to India, but her dictum stands, even there, even for men.) Scarcity creates demand, and in the poor majority of the world, a room of one's own—especially for women—is still a thing to be yearned for. But in the greedy West, where attention has become the thing most hungered for, where the quest for followers and likes is the new gluttony, privacy has become unnecessary, unwanted, even absurd. Eliza and I decided to be private people. This did not mean we kept our relationship secret. My family knew, and so did hers. Her friends knew, and so did mine. We dined out together, went to the theater, cheered at Yankees games at the Stadium, walked around art galleries, bopped at rock concerts. We led, in short, the ordinary life of New Yorkers. But we stayed off social media. I didn't "like" her, she didn't "like" me. And as a result, for five years, three months, and eleven days, we flew almost completely under the radar. Then, cutting that life apart, came the knife.
