Understanding the Versatility and Performance of medical hose, pharma silicone hose & PTFE hose manufacturers.
Tumblr media
Medical hoses must be made from materials that are compatible with the human body, and that can withstand the harsh conditions of medical environments.
Pharma silicone hoses are a type of medical hose that is made from silicone rubber. Silicone rubber is a soft, flexible material that is resistant to chemicals and solvents. It is also biocompatible, which means that it is safe for use in the human body. Pharma silicone hoses in Bangalore are in demand and are often used in medical devices that get their hands on blood or other biological fluids.
PTFE hoses are another type of medical hose that is made from a material called polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). PTFE is a very strong, lightweight material that is also resistant to chemicals and solvents. It is also non-conductive, which makes it ideal for use in medical devices that generate or use electricity. PTFE hoses are often used in medical devices that require a high degree of flexibility and durability.
Medical hose manufacturers are responsible for designing, manufacturing, and testing medical hoses. They must ensure that their hoses meet the stringent standards that are required for use in medical devices. Medical hose manufacturers must also be able to meet the demands of the medical industry, which is constantly evolving.
Flexotech is a leading manufacturer of medical hoses. We have been in business for over 20 years and have a reputation for quality and innovation. My ADD Medication Journey - Mar 14, 2024
Didn't sleep very well last night. I'm hoping that it's the result of starting medication that I've not been on for like... 6 weeks or more.
At end of day, I AM feeling some fatigue, and I'm going to try a couple of things to help me get to sleep faster and easier. We'll see how it goes.
Focus was good today. I felt accomplished at work because I had managed to take care of a decent amount of the workload.
There was some increase in hand tremors, but not as bad as yesterday. I'm assuming it's because I ate something early on.
I took my medicine at about 8:30 am and ate a little something at about 9:30, that way it wouldn't be as likely to interfere with the medication. If it did, oh well. Maybe THAT is what will help me sleep.
Tonight's plan for sleep: Put on gentle music that will turn itself off with a sleep timer Take some antihistamines to help make me drowsy
We'll see how well it works for me. I intend to take my meds tomorrow, but not over the weekend. That way, if I don't get to sleep well tonight or tomorrow, I can have a better shot at it Saturday night.

Hi Kedreeva!! You mentioned that male peafowl get aggressive when hand-raised, why is that?
There is no research done on this to be able to definitively give an answer. I've written about this before, as well, but I'm feeling chatty.
However, according to anecdotal evidence by keepers around the world, after being hand raised male peafowl treat humans the same way as they would treat a rival peacock they hold a grudge against, and the aggression is almost always worse during mating season (exception cases where it's bad all year). This would seem to indicate that instead of seeing themselves as humans, peacocks see humans as "like them" ie: peacocks, and that the aggression is hormone based.
With peafowl, a male will attempt to chase off unrelated rival males. Related males form leks, but even males that have not ever met before seem to be able to clock blood relations (this actually was confirmed in scientific study, which I have talked about before so you can find it in the peafowl tag somewhere), and whatever method they use to do this, it cannot apply to humans (because you're definitely not able to be blood related to them). As such, the solution is only EVER going to be: chase off. But, humans are not going to be chased off by a bird they are keeping in a pen, and so begins a feedback loop of stress and aggression: they try to chase you off, they can't, they get frustrated and stressed and more desperate, rinse and repeat. This eventually, even with no reinforcement from you, leads them to be stressed even just seeing you, whether or not you're interacting.
However, most people I've seen aren't just "not doing anything," they are actively reinforcing the idea that they are a threat to the bird. They yell, they make sudden movements, they kick them, they pin them to the ground, they chase them around/carry them around, they spray them with hoses, they attack them with sticks/rakes/pool noodles... I have seen the gamut. And ALL of it reinforces the idea, to the peacock, that they are DANGEROUS and should be CHASED OFF. The bird physically cannot escape in many of these situations (being penned in a flight pen), so the only option they would see is fighting.
This is ALL solved by just... not hand raising them. When they don't consider you to be a rival cock, then 99.9999% of them will be chill dudes even during mating season. They don't actually LIKE to fight, but there are certain situations which inform their instincts (instincts strengthened greatly by hormones) that they need to in order to survive/reproduce.
There is ONE potential work around I have found for hand-raised males, if it is not already too late, and that is extensive training. Stan was, by necessity, hand-raised due his medical issues early on. I trained him to jump to a treat perch when he was young, and once he got aggressive, I was able to reinforce the treat perch such that when I went into his pen, he would immediately go to that perch and he would get treats when I left if he stayed there. This didn't eliminate his stress over my presence, but it did alleviate altercations between us, and allow me to care for him properly. I have helped two other people do this with their young hand-raised males (ones they didn't know better about, and won't repeat), so I know that it CAN work for some others, but it's never going to be a good solution compared to just not fucking doing the hand raising in the first place. The birds will still be experiencing stress they shouldn't have to, and the owner will experience stress knowing that aggression is sitting just beneath the surface at all times.

Bionic Breathing In a dimly lit room filled with the hum of machinery, Ruby Riots sat straitjacketed and strapped to an antique medical chair, their big, beautiful eyes doing all the talking as their mouth is stuffed with an unrelenting gag. We watch as Ruby deals with the situation at hand. Eventually Elise enters the room and explains that the gag should have stretched out Ruby’s jaw by now, and it’s time to assess Ruby’s natural air flow. Elise does this by prying open Ruby’s face with the use of a nose hook and a tongue clamp. Elise uses her fingers as well as a dildo to challenge Ruby’s ability to breathe under pressure. She passes the test, and it is therefore time to move on to the controlled breathing activities. Elise attaches a hose from the ventilator to Ruby’s gas masked face. Ruby’s darting eyes expressing her concern. The rhythmic rise and fall of their chest is a testament to the machine's relentless work. A vibrator is fixed between Ruby’s legs, reminding them that they are not in control of their own breathing, nor their own arousal. Elise intently watches as she incrementally turns the power of the vibration up - and the breaths per minute down. It is a joy to witness someone out of control!

Here’s a little Maddie and Tommy drabble 🩶
**********
Tommy was involved in a nasty helicopter crash back in his army days. Broke his leg in 3 places, 4 ribs, and enough bruises to fill an entire medical text book. He spent almost two months in hospital recovering, dealing with more pain he’d never thought humanly possible.
Yet he’d gladly take that pain again over the unbearable pain of the last 2 months after having his heart ripped from his chest.
Correction: from ripping his own heart from his chest.
Because that’s what he did. He ripped his own heart out as an act of self preservation. It felt like the correct choice for all of about 5 minutes.
He stopped the elevator from closing, ready to step back out towards Evan’s apartment. But he stopped. He let the doors close and let the elevator go down.
He turned off the engine after firing up his truck, ready to get back out and go back inside the building.
But he stopped.
He reached home and closed the door behind him then opened it again ready to get back in his truck and drive back to Evan’s.
But he stopped.
Each time that terrified part of his soul reminding him that he and Evan couldn’t be—he’d end up hurt in the long run.
Evan was wonderful. He was kind and thoughtful, sunnier than anybody Tommy had ever met.. but he wore rose tinted glasses when it came to Tommy; didn’t know the real him inside. The dark and traumatised parts of himself that he hadn’t shared, would be too much for someone like Evan to love.
He had to keep reminding himself of that. Reminded himself that Evan deserved better; deserved happiness and light and good, and Tommy? He wasn’t that. He’d never be that.
But it wasn’t easy. Not by a long shot. Despite Tommy’s effort , Evan had managed to burrow his way inside of his heart and settled in his warmth.
He’d lost count of how many times he’d picked up his phone, started worrying a message to him, then deleted it and put his phone back down.
He’d taken to keeping himself distracted. Every time he felt the urge to reach out he’d clean something. Never had his house ever looked so bright and shiny. Eventually he ran out of jobs to do at home and took his need for distraction to work.
He was fine when on the job; controlling his bird or putting out fires when doing ground work was an easy distraction. But the downtime was where Evan’s face would creep into his consciousness.
Their probie was left without much do to because Tommy had taken over the jobs usually reserved the person at the bottom of the ladder.
The helicopters were looking brand new, you could eat food directly from the kitchen floor—hell even the bathrooms hadn’t looked so clean since they’d had them renovated 6 years before.
Eventually he ran out of places to clean and resorted to cleaning the tools of the job. Every hose, every crow bar, even the mechanical tools in the maintenance hangar were getting 5 star treatment.
*
Tommy was in the maintenance hangar working on cleaning a set of wrenches. Every groove got its own special treatment, every scratch getting buffed out. The team had learnt quickly after the break up to leave him be unless it was work related.
“Tommy?” A soft voice came from behind him.
“Lucy, I told you I’m fi-“ he turned to face her only to be surprised to not be looking at Lucy.
“Maddie?” His heart detached itself from his chest wall and lodged itself in his throat. Evan’s sister wouldn’t be here unless..
“Is.. he.. is he okay?” He’d never heard his own voice so scared and meek.
Maddies eyes widened for a moment before she spoke. “Oh. No, no. I.. he’s okay. I mean, he’s not okay, not at all.”
Tommy breathed out a sigh of relief and his shoulders sagged. He clenched his jaw in an attempt to keep his emotions at bay. For a moment he thought she was about to tell him.. No, he couldn’t think about that.
“I’m sorry I probably should have let you know I was coming. Didn’t mean to scare you.”
“It’s okay. Why are you here?”
“Can we go some place to talk?” She asked.
She was looking at him not like she wanted to kill him. Which was honestly throwing him off. He broke her brother’s heart—if he were in her position he’d want to tear him in half.
“I’m not here to fight or yell—really I just want to talk.” She reassured him.
Tommy gestured for her to follow him and he led her to the Harbor kitchen upstairs. It wasn’t as fancy as the one at the 118 but it served its purpose.
“Can I get you anything? Coffee?”
“Sure. Thanks.” She answered and he pour them both a mug from the pot and they took a seat at the dining table.
“How.. how is he?” Tommy asked tentatively.
“Baking.” She said. Tommy raised his brows.
“Baking?” He knew even loved to cook, but he couldn’t remember any point in their six months together him ever baking anything.
“Yeah. I’m running out of space in my pantry for all the loaves he keeps bringing us.” She gave a small laugh.
Seems Evan was trying to distract himself just like Tommy was.
Silence fell upon them for a while until Maddie broke it.
“Did my brother ever tell you about what happened after I had Jee?”
“Uh, no. I don’t think he did.” Tommy was curious as to where Maddie was going with his.
She took a deep breath before speaking. “I didn’t know it at the time but I had Postpartum Thyroidosis. Think post postpartum depression but even worse. I was barely eating, hardly slept, and between Howie’s shifts and mine at the call centre, it became a struggle I didn’t think I’d ever get through. Do you remember the ransomware attack in the city?”
“Yeah. I spent almost a week living here.”
Maddie nodded. “Howie, too. He had to stay at the station house while I was at home with a new baby and no power. I’d quit my job in an attempt to take some of the pressure off but those 5 days alone..“ She blew out a breath. “I was bathing Jee and I was so sleep deprived that I fell asleep. It was only for a moment but.. but she slipped under the water. “
Tommy’s heart clenched at the look on her face as she recalled the memory.
“She was fine, thank god—I had her checked out. But it scared me so much and in the end was the straw that broke the camels back. So, after the hospital discharged her, I packed her things and dropped her off to Bobby at the station. Then I drove up the coast, found a beach and I walked into the ocean.”
Tommy was entirely at a loss for words. He wanted to say something but what do you say to that? Evan hadn’t said a word about it to him, and he understood why—it wasn’t his business to know.
But he remembered something Evan had said once about people he cared about leaving him. How Maddie had left him more than once. Never had Tommy thought this was what he meant.
“I had convinced myself that everyone would be better off without me. Evan, Chimney, Jee.. they’d hurt at first but they’d move on and live great lives.” She took another deep breath. “Thank god I had a moment of hesitation and somehow I found the strength to get back out. But I wasn’t in any state to go back. Eventually I checked myself into a facility in Boston to get help. That’s where I found out I had PPT. I spent the next 6 months in hard core therapy, starting with in patient then eventually moving to outpatient.” She stopped and took a sip of her coffee.
“I’m sorry that you went through that, Maddie. Really.”
“Thank you.” She gave a soft smile.
“But.. I have to ask. Why are you telling me this?”
She put her mug back down on the table. “I spent that entire 6 months convincing myself that Howie hated me for leaving him; for abandoning our daughter. Not to mention the fact that I’d left Evan again. And then one day, a friend I’d met in therapy, had a medical emergency and suddenly I’m looking at Howie as one of the paramedics that showed up. Turns out he’d spent the whole 6 months, and all of his savings, driving across the country with Jee looking for me. See, as much as I hated myself and thought that I wasn’t worth love and care—Howie didn’t. He left his job, his life to find me; to be there for me.”
Tommy began to realise the point that Maddie was making and why she was telling him what happened to her.
“Evan didn’t really say all that much about what happened that night between the two of you, but he did say that you thought you’d get hurt again and ran away.”
Tommy nodded.
“Tommy, Evan and I didn’t exactly grow up with loving and adoring parents to guide us; mostly they were in the periphery of our lives. I ended up married to an abusive man, and Evan.. he ended up with abandonment issue the size of Mars. All he wants, all he’s ever wanted was for someone to love him enough to stay. I was so caught up in what I was feeling that I left him; left everyone and I can’t take that back. The hurt I caused him and Howie and Jee..”
“But that’s different, you were sick—that wasn’t your fault.”
“The PPT wasn’t but the way I handled it was. What I’m saying Tommy, is don’t let my mistake be yours. I ran way when I should have stayed and fought, even when I was sacred.”
Tommy sat back in his chair and ran a hand through his hair.
“I just.. Evan is.. I’ve never met anybody like him. I’ve never felt the way I feel about him for anybody before, and he’s so new to dating a guy and what happens when-“
“When? You know for sure he’d leave you?”
“Well, no but-“
“You know it took almost a year for Howie and I to actually get together? I was so scared after my ex that I convinced myself that Howie and I wouldn’t work; that id just get hurt again.”
“What made you change your mind?”
“He showed me that I could trust him. More importantly I let him show me. It wasn’t easy, but I eventually got my head out of my ass and realised he wasn’t Doug. He was this wonderful man, who knew what I’d been through; saw the darkest parts of me and still wanted to love me. And if I wanted to be happy I’d have to put my trust in him, even though it still scared me.”
Maddie was right. And he’d known already deep down that he had to put himself out there if he wanted some kind of happiness. But the thought of losing himself to Evan and it not working out? He meant what he’d said to Evan about not being able to stand that happening.
She put her hand gently on his forearm. “My brother loves you. Truly loves you. It’s not some infatuation—believe me I’ve seen what that looks like on him. I’ve never seen him more settled and more himself than since he’s been with you. Does he get ahead of himself sometimes when he’s excited about something? Yeah. And sometimes he needs someone to pull him down to earth. But despite all he’s been through he still puts himself out there; puts his heart out there. And he’s put his heart in you.”
“It terrifies me.” He said. “I mean, being with him.”
“Why?”
“Because I love him too. So much that I don’t know what to do with.” He admitted.
“I feel the same way about Howie. Sometimes I find myself thinking what if I hadn’t taken that leap with him? Then I wouldn’t be married to my soulmate and more importantly we wouldn’t have our beautiful daughter. It’s hard to think good things can happen to you when all you’ve known is trauma, but in reality good things can happen to you. You just have to willing to risk it sometimes. I know I’m biased, but Evan is worth the risk. And he deserves someone who’s willing to take it.”
Evan was worth the risk. He always had been. But Tommy’s fear had taken control. He knew it wasn’t fair on either of them but how could he get out from under it?
“I want to, Maddie, I do. I just don’t know how to.”
“Well I walked into the station and kissed Howie, but something tells me they might not be your style.” She laughed and Tommy gave a small one.
“Okay, let me ask as simple question: Do you want to be with him?”
“Yes.” Tommy replied without even having to think about it.
“And you want a happy future with him?”
“More than anything.”
“Then go get it.” She said plainly. “I can’t guarantee a long beautiful life with my brother, but I can guarantee that neither of you will get to have it if you don’t try at all. So-“ she stood up from her seat. “Finish your shift, then go to him.”
“What if he doesn’t want that?”
“Have you been listening to anything I’ve said? Of course he wants that! He wouldn’t have sold out half the county of baking supplies other wise.” She stepped forward and took his hand. “You’re the best thing that’s happened to my brother. Go and be happy together.”
His resolve weakened and a couple of tears escaped his eyes. He wiped them away and stood up. “Thank you, Maddie.”
“I’m just doing what any big sister would do.”
For two months Tommy had dreaded the end to every shift knowing he’d have to go home to an empty, Evan-less house. And now for the first time in 8 weeks he couldn’t wait for his shift for end.
So he could go to Evan.

since it's currently flooding where i live, i'm gonna request firefighter!marauders or emt!marauders (whatever works) saving reader who is trapped in her house with the flood being past the chest or something
andddddd reader has asthma, if ur okay with that? (i have terrible asthma and it's so so annoying honestly)
anyway, thank you for writing all of these fics of yours! they are all so amazing!!!
(also, can i be 🌼 anon?)
Hi lovely, thanks for letting me do just James for this! And ofc you can be that anon <3
cw: water rescue, asthma attack, I did do research but I feel like this can’t be accurate so sorry about that
firefighter!James x fem!reader ♡ 589 words
You wait until you hear the boat motors getting close again before you start to crawl out the window.
“There!” you hear someone shout, and you nearly collapse with the relief of not having to use your air to call out. The boat rumbles closer, and then a fireman with sweetheart eyes and a mop of curly hair crushing out from beneath his helmet is reaching for you with both hands.
“Hi, there,” he says, grabbing you around the waist and lifting you the rest of the way out. You brace yourself by putting your hands on his shoulders (his very impressive shoulders, you can’t help but notice, which make you remember how your own clothes are stuck damply to your skin from the chest down). Your lungs burn beneath his hands, no better or worse for his touch. “Is it just you in there?”
“Yeah,” you wheeze. Another firefighter settles one of those aluminum blankets you’re always seeing on TV around your shoulders. “Just me.”
“Alright,” he says, dark eyes growing troubled as he processes your onerous breaths. “Are you okay?”
The pain in your chest worsens as you forcibly expel another breath, dragging in a hasty inhale. “My inhaler got ruined.”
The man’s expression clears just before his brow creases. “You’re having an asthma attack?”
You nod urgently.
“Alright, okay. Come here, let’s sit down.”
He pulls you to the back of the boat, guiding you down onto the rubbery floor while someone else passes him a medical bag. Your knees fold towards your chest automatically, some useless instinct to protect the part of you that’s hurting. It does nothing.
“Have you had asthma attacks before?” he asks you, digging through the bag. Someone starts driving the boat forward. You start to relax when you see him pull out a mask attached to an air compressor, your salvation.
“Yes.”
“Compared to the other attacks you’ve had before, how badly would you rate this one on a scale of one to ten?”
“Six.” You answer without hesitating, familiar with this line of questioning.
“Alright, lovely.” He finishes affixing the hose to the nebulizer, setting the mask to your face and turning on the air compressor. “Just breathe in for me.”
You do. The relief isn’t instant, but it may as well be. You feel heaps better just knowing the medicine is working.
You must look visibly calmer, because the man across from you smiles. It looks at home on his face, and the little crinkles which appear at the corners of his eyes suggest he does it often.
“There we go,” he encourages. You hope your expression conveys the appropriate gratitude as you take the mask from him, holding it to your own face. “I’m James. You were trapped in there for a while, huh?”
You nod, and he laughs at your weary look.
“I’m sorry.” James gives your shoulder a friendly squeeze. His face is remarkably cheery for someone who’s been tasked with boating around and rescuing people all day; then again, as a rescuee, you can see the value of a bright spot in the murk left behind by the floor. As soon as you get this mask off, you think you owe him about a million thanks. “I’m sure it’s been really difficult, but we’ve got food here you can have in a bit, and that thermal blanket should help warm you up quickly enough. Just keep breathing into that thing for another few minutes, love, and then we’ll get you all fixed up.”

ways/methods to torture your fictional character in a medical setting
♡♡♡ for writers to use as an inspiration for their novels/fanfictions only, I’m not a psychopath ♡♡♡
medical whump never fails to give me all the best whumperflies!
trigger warnings: description of abuse, dehumanization, nonsexual nudity and blood
physical restraints (chains, handcuffs, straightjacket, strapping them down to the bed by their wrists and ankles, etc)
I should just mention that straightjacket is one of my personal favorites
electroconvulsive therapy aka shock therapy
force feeding (via a plastic tube through their nose or mouth into their stomach)
shock collar
being forcefully shoved and held down to the ground, cheek against the cold floor
ice pick lobotomy
character getting stripped against their will
strong jets of water assaulting the character’s skin through a hose as a way to clean them
rough handling from the orderlies results in the character getting bruises all over their skin
waterboarding
getting their nails trimmed so they can’t hurt themself or others
character getting put into a hospital gown against their will is so underrated, actually
intubation against the character’s will — bonus if the character is still somewhat conscious
doses of anesthetic into the character’s bloodstream via an injection or through an iv drip to render them unconscious so that they can’t hurt themself or others
when the character is so drugged out of their mind that they’re too groggy to fight or struggle as things are being done to them; they’re half conscious still, they just can’t fight, even though they’re not restrained physically
blood draws — bonus if it gots to the point the character feels dizzy, cold and generally disoriented from losing too much blood
vivisection :)

Whumper came down the stairs and glanced at Whumpee.
"Come on, you smell horrible", Whumper stood at the bottom step.
"Yes Master", Whumpee worked to stand up. Their small naked frame shook with the exertion of moving. They fell forward, but caught themself.
Whumper watched them semi concerned, "you okay?"
"Um yes Master, just a little weaker than normal", Whumpee limped toward them, "think I'm a little cold, that's all."
"Mmm-hmm, so you get two options for bathing today. Option one, a warm bath with some medical attention, but you do not get a meal tonight. Option two, you get cleaned by the hose outside, but I'll give you a nice meal for dinner."
"Uhm, may I have a warm bath", Whumpee followed Whumper up the stairs.
"Yes you may, that was a fast decision", Whumper started to walk to the bathroom.
"Yes Mas-master it's cold downstairs, so I think it's cold outside", Whumpee watched as Whumper prepared the tub, they glanced at the toilet.
"You're right it is cold outside", Whumper started the bath.
"Master you said I was right", Whumpee gleamed.
"Yes, I guess I did. You're right occasionally", Whumper grinned.
"Master may I use the toilet instead of the bucket", Whumpee looked at the toilet again.
"Go ahead", Whumper watched them.
"Alright, try not to make too much of a mess, and enjoy.... it... hold on", Whumper noticed something.
Whumpee froze as they had just gotten into the water.
"I'm sorry Master did I do something that made you unhappy", Whumpee worried, 'was this all a joke', Whumpee thought to themself.
Whumpee's skin quivered as Whumper felt around their back.
"No, I think you have an infection on your back", Whumper frowned, "I'll take care of it when I do your medicine."
"Yes Master", Whumpee lowered into the water and exhaled a sigh of relief.
Later Whumpee waited for Whumper in the living room.
Whumper had already finished medical treatment and decided to trim Whumpee's nails.
Whumper came out carrying a steaming bowl of something that caused Whumpee to drool.
Whumper set it on the coffee table in front of Whumpee.
Whumpee didn't dare look at it, but they savored the smell.
'I don't get dinner tonight', Whumpee reminded themself, 'I chose this.'
Whumper sat on the couch and pulled out their phone.
"You can eat that if you like", Whumper didn't pay any mind to Whumpee.
"Master you said I didn't get any dinner", Whumpee sat up on their knees to get closer.
"I know, but that infection on your back is pretty bad. I think your body is weak because of it. It would be better to give it sustenance to help", Whumper watched Whumpee sniff at the bowl.
"You going to eat it?", Whumper frowned.
"I'm sorry Master it smells so good", Whumpee looked at Whumper, "I appreciate this."
"You're welcome, now eat it."
Whumpee almost fell over with how good the food tasted. 'I haven't had warm food in so long and I had a warm bath today even', Whumpee smiled to themself. It made them feel almost human again.... they didn't dare tell Whumper that though.
"I'll get you some better medicine tomorrow when I go out", Whumper eyed the infection again as Whumpee ate, "hopefully we'll get that under control."
Whumpee looked up happily.
When done, Whumpee followed Whumper down to the basement again.
"Why are you acting sad?", Whumper frowned, "I did more for you than I originally intended."
"Yes Master, I apologize. I enjoyed being upstairs with you", Whumpee looked at Whumper sadly, "I'm lonely down here."
"I have one more surprise down here for you", Whumper pointed, "but this is where you stay. Right?"
"Yes Master", Whumpee looked at where Whumper pointed and saw a blanket waiting for them.
They limped quickly to the blanket, "is this for me?"
"Yes for right now at least", Whumper turned to go back up, "don't make me regret my kindness to you."
"Master, thankyou so much", Whumpee looked up at them with a smile.
"Yep", Whumper called from the top of the stairs.
At the sound of the lock, Whumpee pulled the blanket over themself and cuddled into it. They limped to a corner of the room and laid down.
The next day, Whumpee overheard Whumper leaving.
They hadn't seen Whumper yet, so Whumper hadn't taken the blanket away yet.
Whumpee was going to soak in all of the warmth they could.
Whumper now stood in the medicine aisle, looking at all of the options available.
"Sorry, I'm coming beside you", someone stepped closer and grabbed something, "got an infection?"
"My friend does, they're not able to make it into see a doctor right now. I thought I'd help them out. I had no idea there were so many medications though", Whumper frowned.
"Coming from a doctor I suggest they get into see one, but these should help hold them over until they can", the person grabbed something off the shelf, "I always recommend these to my patients."
"You're a doctor huh?", Whumper reached for the products, "thankyou so much, I appreciate this."
"Yes the names Caretaker", they reached a hand out.
"Whumper", they extended their hand for a handshake.
"If your friend needs a doctor, here is my card", Caretaker offered a business card.
"Thankyou", Whumper felt the wheels spinning in their head.
During the next week Whumper watched Caretaker, he knew their routines perfectly.
The medicine that was recommended had cleared up Whumpee's infection perfectly.
"Master, I feel so much better", Whumpee smiled as Whumper applied more medicine to the infected area.
"It definitely looks better", Whumper studied Whumpee's backside, "I'm glad."
"So I'm going out for a drive tonight again", Whumper stood and started to go to the stairs, "what does that mean for you?"
"I am to be good Master", Whumpee smiled up at Whumper, while trying not to draw attention to the blanket that was still down there.
"Good Whumpee", Whumper turned to go, but eyed the blanket, making Whumpee's heart sink.
"Are you enjoying having a blanket?", Whumper turned to them.
"Y-yes Master", Whumpee nodded.
"Good", Whumper sighed as they walked to the stairs, "I'll see you later."
Whumpee cuddled into the blanket after Whumper had left. They were careful not to let it touch the medicine, Whumper would punish them harshly if they messed it up.
Whumper watched Caretaker leave the office and get into their car.
Whumper followed Caretaker to a store they often frequented.
On the way out Caretaker found his path blocked by a car, then noticed his car was on fire.
Before he knew it, he was pushed into the car and they were speeding off from the scene.
"What is the meaning of thi....?", Caretaker was met with a gun, "who are you?"
Whumper had hidden most of their face with a mask.
"Place your phone in your bag and put everything in the backseat", Whumper commanded.
Caretaker sighed as they followed orders.
"Are my things back here? You broke into my car?", Caretaker frowned.
"How do you think your car caught fire", Whumper handed over a set of handcuffs, "put these on, hands behind your back."
Caretaker frowned as a firetruck sped by, "you are twisted."
Whumper chuckled, "you have no idea."
Whumpee heard Whumper crash through the door, and force open the bars that locked the basement.
"Oh no, they're mad", they pulled blanket closer trying to get every ounce of warmth before it was taken away.
Whumper came down the stairs, but someone was with them.
"Whumpee I've solved your loneliness issues, and your medical issues", Whumper announced as they guided the person to a kneeling position, "I can't take you to the doctor, so I brought one to you."
Whumper yanked off a blindfold they had forced onto Caretaker.
Caretaker looked around and locked eyes with Whumpee.
"Where am I?", Caretaker then glanced up at Whumper, "you?"
"Yes, you should really be careful with your personal information", Whumper chuckled, "you never know what someone is capable of."
Whumper unlocked the handcuffs, "if you move before I am at the top of the stairs you'll regret it. Am I clear?"
"Yes", Caretaker felt his throat tighten, this couldn't be happening right.
The bars slammed shut, clearing Caretaker to move.
They stood and quickly went up the stairs.
"It's locked", they came back down and eyed Whumpee.
"How long have you been here? Are you a captive too?", Caretaker frowned.
"I've been here a long time.... yes", Whumpee nodded, "if I may give you some advice."
Caretaker frowned, but nodded.
"Listen and do what they ask, or you'll look like me", Whumpee wasn't brave enough to pull off the blanket yet.
Caretaker sat down in the corner across the room, "I-I'm sorry, I need a little bit to think about what just happened."
Whumpee nodded, "okay", they whispered.
After a while, Whumpee noticed that Caretaker was shivering. They still had clothes on, but it was still pretty cold down their.
Whumpee looked down at their coveted blanket.
'I'm more use to this down here, than they are', Whumpee weakly stood and cautiously carried the blanket over.
Caretaker turned quickly when they felt the blanket cover them.
They looked up and watched Whumpee limp back to their spot.
"I'm sorry, I didn't know you were naked under their. Please take this back, you'll catch a cold", Caretaker started to get up.
"No please, it's okay", Whumpee whispered, "I'm more used to it down here than you are. We don't always get a blanket down here."
Caretaker frowned, "what have they done to you?"
"I don't really want to talk about what I've been through", Whumpee looked down at their beaten body.
"Okay, I'm sorry", Caretaker sighed.
"Hey Whumpee", Whumper called from upstairs.
Whumpee got up as quickly as they could and went to the stairs.
"Yes master?", Whumpee limped up a few steps.
"Catch these", Whumper tossed down two bottles of water and another blanket, "I'm going to bed, don't be up too late."
Whumpee nodded, "thankyou so much Master."
Whumpee handed Caretaker a water bottle.
"This blanket is probably cleaner than that one if you want to switch", Whumpee showed the blanket off.
"It looks thicker though, you use it", Caretaker gave a weak smile, "if you like, I'll give you a full checkup tomorrow, I can't imagine the last time you've seen a doctor."
"It's been a while", Whumpee sat down again, "I take it you were the doctor Whumper said recommended the medication I've been getting."
"Yes that was me", Caretaker nodded.
"Thankyou so much, I didn't feel good. I feel better now", Whumpee smiled, "Master says my back is better as well."
"That's good, I'm glad it helped", Caretaker watched Whumpee curl up on the floor.
"I hope it's okay, I'm quite tired", Whumpee yawned.
"I'll probably turn in soon to", Caretaker sighed. "I guess I don't have much of a choice right now."
Whumpee nodded, before resting their head on the floor, "goodnight, um doctor."
"Goodnight", Caretaker felt their heart ache.
'How long have you been here, and no one knew?', Caretaker thought to themself, 'the world went on, and you've been in the basement of a madman.'
Whumpee stretched out as they made happy sighs.
"I'll take care of you, and I'll get us out of this... somehow", Caretaker whispered, "I promise."

Summary: While out on a call, someone tries to shoot at the 118 and the accident bursts (Y/n)'s eardrum. Evan makes sure to do all he can to look after her.
Enjoy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tumblr media
"I'm ready for bed." (Y/n) braced her hands on her hips and tilted her head back as she clicked her spine into place. Her knee jutted forward and she took deep breaths as she waited on the pavement for Evan to catch her up.
"It's only lunchtime,"
She tilted her head to the right and raised a brow at Eddie when he playfully bumped his shoulder into hers. He looked down at his watch before he looked back over at her. It had just gone twelve, they were on time for once to go back to the station and get lunch before another call dragged them back out.
"Excuse me, we've been on a two-day bender at the station. We haven't been to bed yet."
Eddie held his hands up in defeat when Evan walked over towards them and slung an arm around (Y/n)'s shoulders, reeling her into his side.
Evan, (Y/n) and Bobby had all been on shift for near enough forty-eight hours now and they'd had four hours sleep, if that. The station was short handed and with Hen, Chimney and Eddie all needing to have a break between shifts due to childcare, (Y/n) and Evan stepped up. They were alright with doing long shifts, especially when they were paired up together.
They didn't mind whereas it wasn't fair for Eddie or Hen or Chimney to do longer than a twenty four hour shift when they had families to go home to. Unless it was an emergency situation, of course.
(Y/n) leaned her head back onto Evan's shoulder and grinned up at him when he swiped her helmet from her head so he could see her properly.
She hated how much she loved it when Evan reeled her into his side like this. (Yn) hated just how much she loved to slot under his arm and how she fit perfectly into his side like two puzzle pieces slotting together. She hated the way he looked down at her and winked because it made butterflies swarm free in her stomach and fueled her with unnecessary adrenaline.
"Alright team, let's pack up."
They all made their way across the road and headed over to the truck to start packing up ready to leave.
(Y/n) refrained from sighing when she had to loosen up and slide out of Evan's hold. She let him keep her helmet that he moved to pack into the truck along with his helmet and jacket. A smile danced across her lips as she held her hand out and took the medic bag from Eddie so she could put it back in the compartment along with hers.
She was ready for home.
Once they were back at the station, (Y/n) and Evan would have three more hours to have dinner and maybe join in on one more call out before they could have the rest of the week at home.
Sometimes it felt better to keep working through the week because when she and Evan had the same time off together, (Y/n) didn't know how to act around her roommate. Not when the way she felt for him was moving away from platonic and into something more deadly. At least when they were on shift there was no risk of any feelings getting in the way, they were too busy for that.
(Y/n) brushed her hands over her knees, ridding them of dust and grime before she turned and moved towards the other side of the truck. She grabbed the hose and started to wind it up and clipped it back in place before she shut the compartment and did a quick check. Everything was packed away, they could get going now.
She could hear Hen shouting for her to get in and a smile pulled at her lips as she grabbed the handle and pulled herself up the steps to climb up.
Evan whispered a quiet 'come on' as he patted the vacant seat next to him that was waiting for her. But the radiant, cheesy grin on his features faded the moment an awful bang rung out through the air.
A scream burst past (Y/n)'s lips and her hands coiled up to her head as she dropped to her knees on instinct.
Gunshots.
Someone was shooting at them.
They weren't on a call out for an assailant with a gun. They had sorted out a gas leak in a cafe, they weren't here for any injuries or shootings and no one had been trying to hold a hostage situation nearby. They didn't even have the ambulance with them today because the call out wasn't that serious.
Evan jerked back in his seat, hunching his shoulders and moving his hands mid-air despite not knowing what he was trying to do. He could feel his heart ramming away at his ribcage and his pulse throbbed in his neck but he couldn't catch a proper breath. He could feel Chimney rushing to unclip his belt beside him and it made Evan realise he hadn't done up his own belt yet.
With that thought in mind, Evan jumped forward and slammed down onto his knees in the footwell of the truck. His arms reached out and grabbed (Y/n), reeling her back until she stumbled into him. He could see from the way she dropped down that she hadn't been hurt and when he swept his eyes across her, he couldn't see any blood or wounds and she wasn't screaming out in pain.
"Get down! Get on the floor!" Evan jerked his right arm out and pulled on Eddie's sleeve before he moved to do the same to Hen, trying to drag them both down.
Someone was shooting at them, they needed to cower down in the footwell below the windows so they weren't easy targets. Sitting in their seats made them easy to spot and aim at. (Y/n) had been stood up when the shots started, they might have been aiming for her.
Chimney and Hen went down on their knees and leaned forward with their heads hunkered down low and their hands braced on the seats in front of them.
Eddie snapped his belt off so fast it slammed into the window while he slid off his seat and crouched down. There wasn't enough room for all five of them in the footwell but they rammed together like sardines to try and stay low. Leaning to the left, Eddie braced one arm over his head for cover before he leaned towards the door and grabbed it. He swung it until it snapped shut, caging them all inside safely out the way and hunkered down.
"Bobby-"
"Everybody hold tight!"
Bobby turned the lights on but not the sirens and leaned forward until his head was level with the steering wheel for extra coverage and protection. He didn't think twice before slamming his foot down on the gas to get them moving. Whoever was shooting was aiming for them and they needed to move.
"This is Captain Nash, shots fired! Repeat, shots are being fired we need police assistance. Is anyone hurt?" He did his best to look over his shoulder into the back but when he couldn't see any of them, he looked back at the road and swerved onto a side road to get them out the way.
There was nothing they could do. They couldn't stay and try to see if anyone was injured or hurt or stop the gunman when they seemed to be the targets.
Everyone took a quick glance down at themselves before they looked over at one another. No one seemed to have been hit and one of the windows had smashed but the glass hadn't cut any of them. They had escaped that one safe enough, but it had been close.
For a few more seconds, Evan didn't dare lift his head. He stayed down on his knees with (Y/n) curled over his thighs and his arms bound tight around her middle. He had his lips pressed against the back of her head although he didn't know why or even when he had suddenly done that. And no one else tried to move either. He could feel Chimney slouching against him, Hen had her hand on his shoulder for comfort and to steady herself. And Eddie was squashed in the corner with both his hands braced on the chair in front of him.
When Bobby turned another sharp corner, it felt safe enough for them all to push up and straighten up. But no one attempted to sit on a chair. They all remained on the floor.
"Is anyone hurt? Do I have to make a trip down to the hospital?" Bobby needed an answer. The turning for the hospital was coming up and he could either take that turn, or carry on straight and head back to the station.
Evan slowly reeled up and shuffled around until he was sat down on his bum and not his knees. He leaned his back up against the seat behind him and pulled his knees up which shifted (Y/n) so she was pinned between his knees and his chest.
"(Y/n)? Look at me, are you okay?" He kept one arm around her waist and moved his other hand to cup her jaw so he could turn her head. He tilted her head up so she was facing him.
His baby blue eyes did three turns looking her up and down but he couldn't see any injuries on her. All he could see were her hands still covering her ears and tears drenching her face. And Evan could feel her panicked breaths pushing into his chest, she was breathing like there wasn't enough air in the room and she was trying to stockpile what little oxygen she could.
Shivers bolted up and down (Y/n)'s spine when Evan started to rub his thumb across her chin and up towards her lip. And when he pulled her bottom lip down and leaned closer, she realised she wasn't talking. She wasn't saying anything and that was panicking him.
She couldn't hear him properly when he repeated the same question again, but she forced herself to nod her head. She wasn't hurt. She wasn't shot or hit with anything and she hadn't gotten any glass imbedded in her skin.
But her head was splitting.
Her right ear felt like it had been blown off. It was throbbing and pulsing and her head was starting to pound and sway back and forth like she was being used as a drum. The shot must have been close.
"We're good, Cap."
(Y/n) kept both her hands deadlocked over her ears and leaned forward to smother her face into Evan's shirt. Her breath hitched in her throat when Evan moved his hand down to cup the back of her thigh and she dared not ask what he was doing. She went limp despite her sudden panic and let Evan lift her over so she could sit down between his parted thighs.
He moved his hand to cup the back of her head and his other arm curved around her waist. He rested his chin on top of her head and held his breath for as long as he could so he wasn't panting and gasping anymore.
His eyes flitted over to look at Eddie when he rested his hand on Evan's ankle and patted his leg with a soft expression.
"He nearly shot her."
Evan's voice was so quiet that everyone almost misheard what he'd said. All eyes fell onto him except for (Y/n). And they looked at his hardened expression before their heads turned to see what he was looking at. The window opposite the door was the one that had shattered.
Whoever shot at them had aimed for (Y/n). An inch lower, an inch to the left, if she moved a second slower, there would be a bullet in her head and nothing they could do to save her.
None of them wanted to move when the truck pulled up in the station.
All of them seemed to exchange looks before Eddie sighed and took the plunge. He used the seat behind him as leverage and pushed up to his feet so he could open the door and hop down. He cracked his neck into place and stretched his arms in front of him while he waited for everyone else to follow him out.
Hen patted Evan's shoulder as she climbed over him to get out, followed by Chimney. Hen folded her arms over her chest and rubbed her hands up and down her sleeves to try and calm herself down. Any one of them could have gotten a gunshot wound today.
"We're back," Evan mumbled the words into (Y/n)'s hair before he moved his hands to cup her wrists so he could pull her hands away from her ears.
He hated to see tears streaked down her face and the way she was still struggling to take in a proper breath. Before he could stop himself, Evan leaned forward and kissed her temple.
His hands moved to hold her hips and he tried to smile when (Y/n) gripped his shoulders to try and stand up. He could feel how badly she was shaking once she was stood up and he moved to stand behind her with his hands still on her hips to try and comfort her. They climbed down and moved to stand next to everyone else.
Bobby looked furious.
His hands were on his hips, his foot was tapping against the floor and he moved one hand to drag across his chin before he scratched his nails into the back of his head.
"The police will be down here soon to take statements, and I'll need you all to complete some paperwork for the Chief, but that can wait until tomorrow. Does anyone need to see a counsellor or have a session before you carry on with your shifts?"
The police would no doubt be here within the hour to take statements and talk them all through what happens next. And Bobby would need to fill out an incident report and have everyone make their statements for the paperwork. He could let that wait until tomorrow, until the shock had worn off and everyone felt better.
But they all knew that they had a right to see a councillor or therapist and if they wanted to, they could have an appointment to be cleared to come back to work. Bobby wouldn't want anyone to carry on working if they felt too shaky or unsettled and thought they should talk it through with someone first. Their health and wellbeing came first and they had almost taken a bullet today, it would be understandable if anyone wanted to go home.
Evan clasped his hands together behind his back and kept his eyes on his shoes. He didn't need to talk this through. He needed to sit down before he exploded.
Someone had almost killed his best friend. Someone had taken aim at (Y/n) and they could have seriously injured or killed her. Where would Evan be if the worst had happened? What would he do without her? How would he cope in a world without (Y/n)?
She was the only constant thing in his life. He saw her every morning without fail, she was the first person he saw when he got up and the last person he saw before he closed his eyes at night. Evan didn't want that to change, not for anything in the world and he didn't want any harm to come to her. She was his roommate, his best friend and she meant more to Evan than anyone else ever had.
He couldn't live without her.
"Are you all sure you're okay?"
A chorus of 'yes' and nodding heads filled the air and Bobby waved his hand at them. They all knew what to do. Go get changed, get themselves a drink and try to calm down while he sorted dinner before the station became flooded with police.
(Y/n) closed her eyes for a few seconds when everyone started to disappear and float around the station.
She didn't now what to do. She wanted to be sick. She wanted to collapse and pass out. Her head was spinning so violently she thought it was going to disconnect from her neck.
"I'm gonna hit the gym."
(Y/n) let her eyes drag over to Evan, wincing at how horrible his voice sounded in her right ear. It sounded like she was submerged underwater, trying to hear things above the surface. It was as if Evan was gurgling water in the back of his throat as he talked and the sounded made (Y/n) cringe. She could feel her head swimming and her ear was pounding and pulsing and throbbing all at once.
She knew what he meant by that. He meant he was going to go into the gym and break the equipment. He had ripped the last punching bag they had at the station after a bad fallout with his parents.
Eddie nodded in agreement and they both turned to start making their way towards the gym. But when Evan looked over his shoulder at (Y/n), it was as if they were having a silent conversation. (Y/n) could feel herself begging him not to leave her alone and his eyes told her he wasn't allowing her out of his sight for more than a few seconds.
That was enough for (Y/n) to follow along behind them. She didn't know what else to do with herself. She could follow the boys and watch them in the gym. It would be better than sitting in the bunker room or upstairs on her own, twiddling her thumbs and she knew if she was alone she was at risk of bursting into tears.
Her hand braced out on the truck and she dragged her fingertips along the red paint, using the truck as leverage to keep herself upright as she began to walk.
She felt dizzy.
When they got into the gym, (Y/n) heaved herself over to a bench and slumped down like all her bones had turned to jelly. She flopped forward and let her arms slump on her legs and hung her head down to see if it would relieve her headache and make her ear stop thudding and ringing like a church bell.
"Are you alright?" Evan's hand found her shoulder with a surprisingly strong grip and he gave her a squeeze to make her look up at him. She was surprised to see he had shed his shirt quickly to leave him in his grey vest and trousers.
"Just shaky,"
(Y/n) let her eyes dance over Evan's frame for a while as he began to abuse the punch bag in the corner. She couldn't hear whatever he and Eddie were talking about. Her right ear was starting to turn numb and the ringing was drowning out everything else. She could only hear through her left ear and it was a horrible feeling to feel as if she were broken and useless on one side.
She wasn't sure how long they stayed in the gym, it could have been a few minutes, it could have been half an hour. All she knew was that after a few minutes, she flopped to lay out on the bench.
Eddie and Evan kept glancing her way every now and then but she still had her eyes open and she tried to smile at them to show she wasn't suddenly going to faint or go unconscious.
"You three, come and get something to eat." Bobby's voice was quiet when he poked his head round the door and waved them over.
(Y/n) realised they must have been in there a while because Evan was drenched in sweat and Bobby had found enough time to make lunch.
Her lips curved into a small, tepid smile when Evan stood in front of her hand held his shaky, sweating palms out towards her. His chest was heaving, his hair was flopping about on his head and sweat trickled down his neck and through to his vest, but he didn't care.
She let her hands slide into his and Evan slowly pulled her up to her feet, but (Y/n)'s smile faded when her head started to swim. Her knees trembled and her head flopped forward. She felt dizzy and sick and feverish all at once. But she tried to push those feelings aside when the three of them headed out the gym and trudged towards the stairs.
None of them had much energy and they all walked at their slowest pace, feeling their motivation slipping away with each passing second. They didn't do this job to get shot at. They were firefighters, they were trying to do some good in the world and help people and look out for everyone. Why did they deserve to be shot at? What had they done to upset someone so much?
The three of them walked in a single file line when they got to the stairs and (Y/n) grabbed the rails with both hands, pushing her weight onto her arms to drag herself up.
But the dizziness was starting to get worse and she could feel her breakfast crawling back up her throat.
Halfway up the stairs was too much for (Y/n). Her head started to loll forwards and a wave of tremors rattled through her limbs while her head pounded. Her eardrum thudded, tears splashed down her face and her head started to split apart like a coconut.
"(Y/n)- hey, what's up, what're you doing?" Panic bubbled up through Evan when he watched (Y/n) suddenly lower herself down onto her knees like she was about to pray here on the stairs.
He moved to crouch down behind her, reaching out to grip her waist while he felt Eddie lean over his shoulder to see why they had all stopped.
When (Y/n) folded her arms on the step in front of her and tried to slump her head onto her arms, Evan gently reeled her back. He muttered a quiet 'come here' as he tilted (Y/n) back into his chest. He hated the way she started to tremble in his arms and the way she hid her face into her hands like she was trying to smother herself. It did nothing to stop him from hearing her begin to cry and it made his heart shatter.
But his brows furrowed and he gently pulled her hands away from her face so he could cup her chin. He tilted her head to the left so she was looking away from him and a growl built up in his chest when he noticed a small trickle of blood slithering down from her ear onto her jaw.
"Okay, up we go. I got you."
Evan held (Y/n)'s wrist and looped her arm around the back of his neck before he cupped his left arm around her waist and slid his right arm beneath her knees. He slowly stood up and waited until (Y/n) smothered her face in his chest before he began walking up the stairs again.
His jaw locked tightly and he tried his best to look ahead and ignore the worried looks he got from the rest of the team who were quietly sat around the dining table.
He moved over to the right and headed over to the sofa, crouching down so he could ease (Y/n) down onto the sofa before he sat down beside her.
(Y/n) curled her arms into her chest and slouched back into Evan when his arm draped around her shoulders. He pressed his lips into her hair and started to glide his other hand up and down her arm until Eddie came back over to them with one of their medical kits in hand.
When Eddie perched down in front of (Y/n), Evan slid his hand up from her shoulder to cup her jaw. (Y/n) opened her eyes wide and tried to control her breathing as she wondered what Evan was trying to do. But he gently used her chin to turn her head until her cheek was pressed into her chest so Eddie could see the blood trickling out of her right ear.
"Can I take a look?"
(Y/n) didn't say anything but the soft look in her eyes told Eddie he could go ahead.
He used a cotton swab to clean away the blood before he shone a light in her ear. His fingertips pressed behind her ear, down her neck and across her jaw to see when she would wince or flinch away from his touch. He then pressed a thermometer under her tongue and flashed the light across her eyes.
"I think the shot burst your eardrum… you were the closest to it. You need to get some antibiotics and go home, it's gonna take a while to heal."
Eddie winced when (Y/n) began to cry and he turned to look over his shoulder and wave Bobby across to them.
There was nothing a doctor could do for (Y/n) except make sure she didn't get it infected. It would heal up on its own within two months, hopefully. (Y/n) would need to rest, take antibiotics and make sure not to get her ear wet at all for a few weeks.
She turned her head further to the side and cried into Evan's chest, shaking harder when she felt his hand slide up from her jaw to tangle in her hair at the back of her head.
"It's okay… shh, it's alright. I'm taking you home."
***
A sigh bubbled past Evan's lips when he shut the front door behind him. He let his shoulders slump down and tilted his head back, closing his eyes when he heard that unmistakeable sound.
(Y/n) was throwing up. Again.
He tossed his keys on the side and headed through into the kitchen, dumping his bag down on the counter before he backtracked and headed over towards the bathroom.
He had never been more pleased that the bathroom in their apartment was downstairs. It meant while (Y/n) was laid up on the couch for the last few days, she didn't have to struggle getting up and down the stairs to rush to the bathroom when she felt sick. But he wished she wasn't throwing up so much. Evan wished she could start to feel better.
For the last four days, he had seen (Y/n) eat two meals a day and proceed to throw all of it back up again. He thought it was too good to be true that she had eaten tea last night and lunch today without being sick.
He tapped his knuckles on the door before he nudged it open and stood in the doorway with his arms folded over his chest. He leaned his back up against the door and let his head flop to the right as he looked down at (Y/n).
She was knelt on the floor, hunched over the toilet with her forehead slumped down on her arms.
"I take it you don't feel any better?" He mumbled quietly and raised his brows when (Y/n) turned away from the toilet. She could barely keep her eyes open and a subtle tremble had set in all over her body.
(Y/n) turned on her knees and shuffled over until she could use the sink as leverage to pull herself up. But the moment she was stood up, her legs started to shake and her head rattled like someone was using her head as a bowling ball. Her knees quaked and pressed up against the sink and her hands gripped the edge as she let herself slide down just a little until her head was slumped forward into the bowl.
She tried to rinse her mouth with mouthwash but the sensation made her ear feel like it was popping and drowning in water. She spat it out and cringed, bowing her head even further to stop herself from crying. She had cried enough over the last four days but she couldn't seem to stop.
Her head was pounding unless she was asleep and as much as she tried, (Y/n) couldn't sleep the days away as well as the nights. She hated listening to music or the tv when one ear was working and the other was turned down and noises came through hazy and bubbling. She had to have the tv on volume seven because any louder made her cry.
The shot had unbalanced the fluids in her ears and that was making it hard for (Y/n) to keep her balance and stay upright. She felt like she was always swaying and sliding to one side when she stood upright and every time she tried to move around, she ended up being sick.
"Alright, come here."
Evan cupped his hands over her hips and stood behind her but when he turned her around to face him, he watched her lips fall into a frown and she wouldn't meet his gaze. Her forehead tipped down into his chest and her hands gripped his arms even though she didn't want to.
"You can't carry me everywhere, Evan." (Y/n) didn't want to rely on Evan like this. She didn't want him to have to help her up and down the stairs and make dinner for her when they usually shared the cooking. She didn't like relying on him like this, it wasn't fair.
"Yes I can. You're not well, that means I gotta look after you. So let me."
(Y/n) let herself go limp so Evan could move her easily. He cupped her wrists and lifted her arms to curl them around his neck. Then his hand moved down to hold her chin and he bent his knees to lower himself down so he could rest (Y/n)'s head on his shoulder.
His hands cupped the back of her exposed thighs and he lifted her up with ease, securing her legs around his torso so she was sitting on his hips. He kept one arm around her bum, she was light and easy enough to carry with one arm so he didn't know why she objected so much to him carrying her around. It wasn't like she was forcing him to help her; he wanted to. He was desperate to help her.
(Y/n) closed her eyes and nuzzled her face into Evan's neck, smiling when she felt Evan's lips against the top of her head. Something he had been doing a lot over the last few days.
He headed into the kitchen, grabbed the bag he had come back with and then turned around to go down into the living room.
When he reached the sofa, Evan dug his hand into (Y/n)'s thigh and leaned forward so he could ease her down. He found himself smiling when he watched her curl her knees up to her stomach and saw how she burrowed into the pillows she had collected down here to be more comfortable.
"What's in the bag?" (Y/n) let her head sink into one of the pillows and she bound her arms around her chest, turning to face Evan when he sat down next to her. But he didn't sink back into the seat like he normally would, he sat on the edge of the sofa with his knees bent out to the sides and his elbows on his thighs.
"I got Eddie to grab me a few bits from the station."
(Y/n) narrowed her eyes, about to smile at him until she watched what he started to get out the bag and place down on the coffee table.
"Evan no-"
Her lips pressed together firmly and she leaned back in her seat when he turned to face her. The way he tilted his head to the side and rose a brow made her shiver, but it was his jaw that locked and ground from side to side that made the adrenaline ignite in (Y/n)'s stomach. And when he moved his hand to point a finger at her, she almost gasped.
"Now you listen to me, you're dehydrated and you're still being sick. So you either suck it up and let me help you, or I will carry you to the car and take you down to the emergency room. So which is it sweetheart?"
The pet name rolled off his tongue before he could stop himself or even realise what he had said and it made (Y/n) turn to jelly despite the pain rolling through her head. She loosened her arms from her chest and flopped her arm onto his thigh as a sign of giving in to him.
"Good girl."
Evan picked up one of the two saline bags Eddie had packed for him. He knew (Y/n) would be sick again today, he just had a gut feeling that she wouldn't be able to keep anything down and she hadn't been drinking enough either. So he rang Eddie this morning and asked him to grab a few IV bags from inventory, some stronger pain meds and some supplement sachets.
He knew (Y/n) wouldn't want to go to hospital, it would take a few hours for them to get through the emergency room onto a ward to get any help in the first place. But if he could keep (Y/n) at home with him and help her himself, the Evan would do everything he could for her.
(Y/n) dared to shuffle a bit closer so she could tilt her head forward and press her nose into his arm which made him smile.
He ripped open an antiseptic wipe and dabbed it across the back of (Y/n)'s hand that was stretched out on his thigh. He could feel (Y/n) pressing her face further into his bicep while she closed her eyes. She didn't do well with needles.
"Here we go," He whispered quietly, daring to let his eyes dart over to her for a second before he moved his attention back to her hand.
He slid the needle into the first vein he found and moved to grab the IV cap that he clipped onto the end while (Y/n) groaned and pinched her nails into his thigh. Not that Evan minded at all. Once a bit of tape was stuck over it, he grabbed a roll of bandage and started to wind it around her hand. He knew exactly what she was like. She would scratch and pull and mess with the tube until the needle came out.
Once it was in place, Evan checked the wire was straight and running free before he flipped the cap to let the fluids flush wide open. He wanted the saline in her system as fast as possible because she was dehydrated and she needed a boost.
"Eddie found some painkillers, they should take away your headaches."
"I don't think I can keep them down."
"Ah, no this is the good stuff." Evan flashed the small bottle when (Y/n) turned her head so her cheek was pressed against his shoulder. He told Eddie not to bring tablets because (Y/n) would throw them up.
Evan grabbed a new needle, filled it with the right dosage and injected it into the spare cap on the IV tube. This would go straight into (Y/n)'s system so she wouldn't throw it up and it would help her feel better. He didn't want to see her crying in pain any longer, he just wanted to make her feel better.
"Thank you." (Y/n) left her bandaged hand on Evan's lap but she moved her right hand to curl around his arm she was leaning against. Her lips pressed to his shoulder and she smiled against his skin until she looked up and realised he looked perplexed.
"You don't need to thank me."
"Evan, you've been looking after me-"
"I look after you because I want to, but I wouldn't need to if some fucker didn't try and take a shot at you. He nearly killed you and I can't… I can't lose you."
Evan slumped back against the sofa and reached his free hand to tangle through his hair. He let his body slouch down and tipped his head back on the cushion to stare up at the ceiling. He wouldn't be taking care of (Y/n) like this if he didn't want to, he would do anything for her. But he would rather be taking care of her when she was sick from a cold or an illness. Not because someone thought they had the right to try and shoot them.
If things had been different, a few seconds later, if (Y/n) didn't move at the right time or if she was a little slower. If that gun had been aimed more to the left, she would be in a coffin right now and Evan would be inconsolable.
"You won't lose me, Evan. I'm not going anywhere, I'm right here," (Y/n) dared to move her hand up from his arm to brush her thumb across his chin. She tilted his head so he was looking at her, so he could see her smile and know that she was here. She wasn't going anywhere. She had a lucky escape five days ago but nothing like that would happen again.
Her fingers tickled the side of his jaw, feathering up and down until he was shuddering beneath her gentle touch. The more her fingers grazed his skin, the less resolve Evan had until he finally broke and pushed forward.
His hand cupped her jaw and skimmed across her neck before he leaned across and kissed her.
He'd dreamed about doing this.
She was his best friend. She was his roommate. She was his partner on the job. But Evan wanted her to be so much more. Evan wanted (Y/n) to be everything in the world to him, his friend, the one he lived with, the girl he kissed and came home to every night. Because she already held his heart in her hands and he never wanted it back.
He pulled her lower lip between his teeth and drank her in, panting against her lips until he was seeing stars and the ringing in (Y/n)'s ears drowned out into nothing but background noise.
He felt her hand move around from his jaw to loop around his neck while her other hand shifted up from his thigh to rest on his chest so she could feel his heart beating wildly in his chest.
Evan slipped his hands down until his fingers could slide beneath her legs and grip the back of her bare thighs were her pyjama shorts had ridden up her legs. He lifted her thighs up and dragged her across the small distance between them that felt like an ocean was keeping them apart. He pulled until her knees were clamped down on either side of his hips and she sank back on his thighs.
And when (Y/n) pulled back to try and gasp for air, Evan cupped her wrist and moved her hand up from his chest to loop it around the back of his neck. Along with the IV tube so he didn't squeeze it and stop the fluids from getting into her system.
His hand moved around to hold the back of her neck while his other hand shifted up from her thigh to grab her bum. He kept her leaning down on his chest and he smiled when he looked up and saw a dazed look in her hooded eyes.
(Y/n) scratched her nails against the short hairs at the back of his neck until Evan was clenching his jaw and he pulled her back down onto him.
(Y/n) could feel herself going lightheaded again, especially when Evan seemed to draw all the air out of her lungs and gulp it down for himself. His warm lips smothered hers and bit her lower lip until he was going to leave a bruise in his wake, but (Y/n) didn't care. She didn't want him to stop. She could feel him muttering something against her mouth but he spoke far too quietly for her to hear.
"Hm?"
"You're right. You're not going anywhere."
<— previous chapter
Brian Thomas was the first. He had seen everything.
Hoodie was the first proxy. He had done everything.
Being the first can make you feel alone, if Hoodie was being honest with you. He had not only had his own mind corrupted, but he watched The Operator corrupt everyone else's around him too. Brian refused to crack at first, putting up quite a fight. Mentally and physically he fought. He refused to be The Operator's puppet. The static torture was enough to knock him down for a few days, but it didn't shatter his determination like The Operator had hoped. Brian began to try to escape. He begged, cried, and ran. Each time he landed himself in the same basement, the air stale and cold. Each time he would curl himself into a ball, his cheek laying on the raw concrete. The static would make him incapable of moving, unable to even sit up.
Once that failed, Brian tried a different tactic. He tried every method of suicide he could think of. He tried to drown himself in the mansions pond. He attempted to silt his wrist. He even had hung himself. Unfortunately, death was not his friend and feared The Operator just as much as he did. With each attempt The Operator would haul his body to Eyeless Jack, a tall demon with endless medical knowledge. With his expertise and The Operator's supernatural abilities, Brian was never granted his wish. His soul was always yanked back into his body, his wish for death never even having a consideration of being granted.
The Operator did not enjoy Brian's resistance. He had only tried to create a proxy before, Jeff the killer not the pick of the litter he soon learned. But if he could start with someone like Brian, sane but with darker underlying tendencies. He would have a much better chance of successfully crafting a personal proxy. Brian however, was much more tough than he thought. All of these death attempts, mixed in with his orders not getting completed, did not sit well with him. He knew Brian was doing it on purpose, in an attempt to get him to torture him to death. Unfortunately for Brian, The Operator had much larger plans. One that included his dear friend Tim. Brian didn't take that knowledge well, landing himself strapped to a chair in the basement he was imprisoned in.
The Operator hadn't considered traditional human torture methods, but he was growing bored of Brian's antics. Brian's memory gets spotty at this point, remembering endless buckets of water being thrown on him. At one point he swore a hose of that same water was shoved down his throat, but he may have been hallucinating at that point. The Operator attached electric wires to the man, turning the switch on. He watched his newest toys body twitch against the restraints, cries of pain escaping his lips. Seeing The Operator looming over him sopping wet, was Hoodie's first memory. He wasn't sure what he was doing there, but his wrist and ankles had been burned raw from the rope that restrained him. The Operator could see the switch in his newest proxy's eyes, his long white fingers gripping Hoodie's face.
Hoodie stared at him blankly, blinking a few times to ensure what he was seeing was real. The Operator had done it. He had corrupted Brian into what he needed him to be.
The next few years after that went by in a flash. First thing was first after Hoodie's creation: The Operator wanted him to have a partner. Who else better to join him in his new life of misery other than Tim Wright? Hoodie recognized why he wanted Tim right away, something Brian would've never spotted. Tim had anger issues, ones that were uncontrolled. He was also smart, seeking psychological help after seeing The Operator. The pills that were given to him kept The Operator away. Brian wished he had thought of that. But it was too late for that. It was too late for him. Hoodie didn't feel bad stealing the medication. If anything, he was overjoyed. Finally, a companion in this lonesome life of slavery. His joy was selfish, he knew this. He also knew Tim would never forgive him once he found out. But to Hoodie that was the glorious part: he didn't have a choice.
Neither of them did. Tim's approach was much more aggressive than Brian's, his retaliation more homicidal than suicidal. What Tim didn't realize, was that this was exactly what The Operator wanted. Masky's grand appearance was made after a long night of static, Tim's ears bleeding and raw by the time The Operator was done with him. Even when Brian and Tim fronted, Brian knew that a part of Tim would never ever forgive him. But the boys didn't have anyone else beside each other, it was a forced friendship. Toby was next, Hoodie more than unamused when he was recruited. The kid was unstable, constantly ticking and seeing things that weren't there. His story was all over the news, Hoodie didn't need to ask questions. Not like he would've anyways.
It was a different ball game with Toby. He didn't need an alter. The kid so unstable with his list of disorders he hardly needed any mental manipulation at all. Masky nor Hoodie liked this, the kid completely off of his rockers. Hoodie hated to see that he was genuinely happy slaughtering people. He hated the way he walked. The way he talked. The sound of his laughter. Masky and Hoodie tried to shove the kid off, Toby always following them around like a lost puppy. The Operator had a soft spot for the kid, one Hoodie could never pinpoint as to why. Maybe it was because he didn't need to waste his time scrambling his brains. He had lost his sanity a long time ago. The Operator didn't need to force it. With the three of them Hoodie figured he wouldn't need anymore proxies. They got the work done efficiently, the blood and gore becoming a desensitized sight to both Hoodie and Brian.
Kate the Chaser came next. She was a scrawny little thing when The Operator first brought her around, her face covered by a sunken in and stained mask. Empty black eyes and white porcelain stared back at him when he looked at her. She was borderline feral, snarling and growling anytime the three of them tried to talk to her. Hoodie suspected The Operator wanted her to become a member of their band of misfit toys, but the girl was too out of touch with human nature. She behaved like an animal, her snowy white skin constantly covered in coal dust. Hoodie suspected he had sent her down to coal mines for prolonged amounts of time, creating lack of vitamin d and animal like behavior. It was a grand mystery to Hoodie why he recruited her until he saw her run. The girl could've been a track star if her life hadn't steered so far off course. Eventually The Operator took her out of the mines, allowing her to work alone. She gained human like tendencies again, but despised sunlight.
Hoodie thought The Operator was done, until he met Cat Hunter. The Operator typically didn't present a proxy to him until they were completely mentally diminished. Hoodie was surprised that The Operator was so open about his torture of the new proxy, his tentacles wrapped around his throat as he dragged him down the hallway. Cat Hunter was a resistant one come to find out, more resistant than him. It made Hoodie feel spiteful in a way, despising the new proxy for being able to hold out longer than him. Even when Cat Hunter had fully mentally submitted, he didn't form an alter like Brian and Tim did. This only made Hoodie resent him more. The sadistic side of Hoodie relished in his corruption when he was finally instructed to meet them.
Cat Hunter was a new, more shiny toy. One The Operator took great pride in. He didn't attempt to force them to be a group this time, announcing straight away that Cat Hunter would be working alone. His metal claws were eerie, his cat mask concealing his face entirely. He only spoken when spoken to, his reclusive behavior reminding Hoodie of his own. Hoodie couldn't stand this. This life of jealousy, rage, and despair. The mourning of his own loss a constant nagging factor that ate at his brain, while being forced to watch more innocent individuals become homicidal slaves. Hoodie hadn't thought of escape in a long time. But Cat Hunter. Something about Cat Hunter brought it out of him. The desire to escape. The will to escape.
A few weeks after Cat Hunter had officially settled in, The Operator assigned the two of them on a mission together. Hoodie didn't know why, but it wasn't his job to ask why. If anything, this was the perfect opportunity for him to make his grand escape. The two were walking back from their mission, the leafs crunching below them as they trudged through the Slender woods. There was always the chance of getting caught by The Rake, a creature from hell who fed off of human flesh. But Hoodie was never afraid, always sure if The Rake got him that he would finally be granted his wish for death. But with hope carrying him every step, he didn't want to think about The Rake at all.
A rusty pipe sat in his hand, an unusual weapon. He hadn't picked one he was used to yet, all of them feeling uncomfortable in his hand. Hoodie shifted his grip on the pipe, raising it above Cat Hunter's head. He slammed it down on his skull, the newest proxies body falling onto the ground. Hoodie panicked at the sight of a small pool of blood forming around his head. He threw the pipe aside, throwing himself in a random direction. He had come to the conclusion as he ran that if he killed Cat Hunter, it would be for his own good. He weaved in and out of the giant trees, jumping over overgrown vines. His heart was pounding, his head spinning at the thought of Jack possibly hearing him.
Unfortunately for him Jack wouldn’t kill him, he had trained himself to not crave the proxies meat. If Jack were to catch him, he’d haul him back to The Operator. His lungs began to burn as they carried him deeper into the forest, his breath becoming shallow. He cringed as the muscles in his leg began to feel strained, every fiber in him screaming at him to run faster. Maybe if he had trained as much Cat Hunter he would have more stamina, Hoodie falling short as he slowed down to a stand still. He leaned against a tree, a gush of wind ripping past him as he looked up.
Over the horizon was a city. He didn’t know which one. He didn’t need to know which one. The city lights twinkled in the night, multiple shapes and colors blowing Hoodie’s pupils. He grinned as he straightened his back, a sigh of relief escaping his lips. Looking down he noted a very steep hill, one littered with overgrown grass. He knew he’d have to be careful going down, but that didn’t matter right now. What mattered was that he could taste his freedom. He’d have to spend the rest of his life on the run, but none of that mattered. He let out a laugh of relief, his mind wondering to what he’d do first.
He’d have to try to find everyone. His parents. He could buy a phone, listen to all of the music that was getting him through college. Could he do college while traveling? He’d need a career that took him around the world, not just the country. He sighed in relief, that glorious feeling then swiped away from him in an instant. It was hard for him to describe what came next. A sharp pain swiped its way through his ankles, a cry escaping his lips and echoing into the night. Before Hoodie knew it he was falling forward, colliding with the hard ground roughly. Grass and dirty flung around him as he rolled down the hill, unable to stop himself. His body only stopped when he collided with a tree, the air being knocked out of his lungs. Hoodie gasped for oxygen as he tried to see past his blurry vision full of tears.
Blinking profusely he forced himself to look down. Three blades had cleaned swiped through his ankles, the flesh now mangled and hanging loosely in various chunks. His tendons and muscles had been ripped out, his left ankle broken. His breath was shaky as he looked at it, the foot turned completely around. He cringed at the sight, his raw bones exposed through the mutilated flesh and blood. He felt his stomach churn, nausea washing over him like a violent wave. He propped himself up on his elbows, trying to prepare himself for what came next. He was surprised to hear footsteps coming down the hill, his gaze avoiding the attacker. The footsteps stopped beside him, Hoodie able to feel the attackers set of eyes study him.
Forcing himself to look up, he wanted to be surprised he saw Cat Hunter. Despite his mask concealing his expression, he could feel his pitiful look as he watched Hoodie shiver with pain. Hoodie practically bit tongue, refusing to let the strings of pleas or cries of pain out. Cat Hunter tilted his head to the side. The faint sound of static could be heard, Hoodie’s ears ringing from the agony he was under. Cat Hunter crouched down beside him, taking out a small handgun.
“I’m gonna do you a favor. Thank me later.”
It was then he was knocked out cold.
All of these years later Hoodie could remember it like it was yesterday. He rocked slowly back and forth on the back porch’s rocking chair, his hands clasped together. He watched as the snow slowly fell from the sky, coating the ground. The memories circulated his brain as he tried to make sense of Cat Hunter’s mistake. He ignored the back porch door opening, his mind heavy on Cat Hunter. You made your way over to Hoodie, hugging a blanket around your shoulders. “Can I sit?” You asked. You could see your breath in front of you. Hoodie silently gestured for you to have a seat in the rocking chair beside him.
“What’s bothering you?” You asked. You knew about the discovery of the claw. The next morning Toby was cradling you like a baby, afraid that if he didn’t have his eyes directly on you that Cat Hunter would strike. You got given the stale answer upon asking who he was. Hoodie had been avoiding you all morning. Not only was that a red flag, but it was also a red flag to you that Brian hadn’t fronted once since the discovery of the claw. Hoodie didn’t answer for a moment, watching snowflakes fall onto the earth. “You can tell me anything you know. I’m here for you,” You say. Hoodie remained silent, pondering his choices. “Hoodie,” You say, catching his attention. You lifted yourself out of your rocking chair, your hands slipping onto the sides of his hood.
You slipped the hood downwards, before slowly grabbing the hem of his ski mask. You were surprised he didn’t stop you, allowing you to unmask him. You cupped his face with your hands, your small fingers shaking from the cold. “You really should be wearing gloves,” Hoodie scolded softly. You gave him a smile, planting a kiss on his head. “Dont change the subject. Tell me what’s wrong,” You insisted. Hoodie sighed, his gaze finally meeting yours. Yeah, his life had been absolutely miserable. Until he had met you. With your stupid smile and stupid doe eyes. As he looked up into your eyes, he understood why Tim was so determined to let you live.
“Cat Hunter and I have history. If it wasn’t for Jack I wouldn’t be able to walk,” Hoodie admitted. He grabbed your waist, pulling you into his lap. You threw your legs over the arm rest, his large hands pulling you closer to him. He rewrapped the blanket around you, his body radiating warmth like a personalized heater. “I can’t imagine him hurting you like that. It bothers me,” He confessed. You nuzzled yourself into his neck, his stubble poking at your skin. “I’m pretty tough you know, i’m not just an easy target for him to kill off,” You say. Hoodie rocked you both back and forth in the rocking chair slowly, the ancient wood creaking each time the chair went backwards. “It’s not about being tough. He’s spent every waking moment of his free time becoming a better proxy. He’s made it his life’s mission to be the best,” He explained.
Your fingers found their way to his hair, running it through his locs, which had grown quite long since the two of you had met. “I’ll make you a deal,” You say. It was a long shot at making him feel better, but Hoodie appeared to be the type who preferred to handle his issues more physically than not. “I’m listening,” Hoodie mused. You pulled away from his neck, looking up into his eyes. “Let me give you a haircut and you can train me. Fighting, weapons, whatever you want. Whatever you think is best,” You offered. Hoodie gave you a cocky grin, running his fingers through his overgrown hair. “Not digging the mullet huh?” He chuckled. You playfully rolled your eyes. “I’d adore you with whatever haircut you decide to have, but if I have a say so and a pair of scissors i’d say you’re due for a trim,” You replied.
You nuzzled back into his neck, his warmth so enticing you almost forgot entirely that it was snowing. As Hoodie rocked you back and forth he could feel his chest radiating with an unfamiliar warmth, only the kind you could produce. He watched as your eyes fluttered shut, your breathing growing heavy. You were so perfect like this, so peaceful and content. For the first time in Hoodie’s existence he didn’t want to corrupt you. He wanted to keep you pure and intact. It was an odd feeling, wanting to persevere one’s innocence instead of taking it. He felt his heart skip a beat as he realized why that was. How long could this really last? Could they really pull this off? Escaping The Operator once and for all? Hoodie had done horrible, hellish things under The Operators influence. What if in the end he pinned him against you?
The feeling that had embedded itself inside of him was a parasite known as one of pure endearment. Hoodie sighed, continuing to rock you back and forth. He loved you and he’d do everything in his power to protect you. Even if that meant protecting you from himself.
