Dream Pod 9 is releasing new high-quality PDFs of 22 1st edition Heavy Gear books, generated from the original electronic files.  All 22 books are available in a half-price bundle.

These are great rpg & wargaming products.  I have hardcopies of all of these titles, and this bundle is a great deal.  Highly recommend getting them if you’re into tabletop mecha gaming.

Well yeah, it's an rpg with levels and uses a d20 for task resolution.

The modifiers you get at low level just aren't going to have much influence on the outcome when using a die with as large a range of probability as a d20. You gotta get to a higher level to get the big bonuses and cool powers that will overcome or circumvent those shitty die rolls.

This is why D&D groups will sometimes start campaigns at higher levels, so they can have the cool characters with cool powers without having to go through the grind of levelling up their characters from first level. I remember it being a pretty common practice when I was playing a lot of D&D 3e/d20 games in the aughts.

It feels like there's been this very particular subset of the Pacific Rim fandom who were into it specifically for how its central conceit blurs the line between intimacy and codependency, but felt constrained by the fundamental optimism of the source material – like no matter how fucked up they made it, there was something basic and structural embedded in it that meant it could never be fucked up enough.

And then Armored Core VI came along.

God’s Most Horrible Goblin Mech

The Nightsky. God, I love this sculpt. This awful, hunched metal death machine’s primary tabletop role is to bully lighter ‘mechs to death, and boy does the model ever communicate that. Pretty happy with how the Lava base turned out, considering limited resources, but damn getting the grey how I wanted was tough. I think it’ll be some time before I try another lance of Lyran Guard.

Plus, it’s my first time jeweling a cockpit!
