#Me yapping about Beetlejuice again

Where does Bj power come from? Is Dolores more powerful than him?

I've been thinking about this for a bit, so I'm happy I got this question. I don't think the movies have made it clear, but I have my own little theory about how you get powers in the afterlife.

We know it's not only because he is a demon that Betelgeuse has powers. We have seen at least one other ghost before Betel and Delores shown to have some power of her own, and that was Juno the caseworker in the first movie.

She was the one to put Dante's Inferno in the model and put the demon girls there to distract Betelgeuse. So Juno, despite not being a demon herself, has powers of her own.

This leads me to believe that you don't have to be a demon or other entity to have powers in the Neitherworld. (I talk below about what I think creates a demon or other entity in the afterlife). Now, becoming more and more powerful is possible for those spirits that become something else, like Betelgeuse and Delores. My own personal theory is that their power comes from three places:

The amount of time the soul has been roaming the Neitherworld.

How deeply they've become knowledgeable of the rules of the Neitherworld (both Juno and Betelgeuse were civil servants), so they know how to navigate the afterlife and what they can and cannot do as spirits.

The circumstances of their deaths and what they were doing near their death.

Both Betelgeuse and Juno know the ins and outs of the Neitherworld as civil servants. Betelgeuse has not only this knowledge, but he has also been around for hundreds of years, learning all he can and trying to figure out a way to get himself out of that state because for him that whole "being dead thing is just too creepy". He wants out, so he's taught himself all he can to manifest on the other side and use his spirit body in all sorts of ways.

Now, he is a LOT more powerful than someone like Juno because of what he became. Betelgeuse is not a regular ghost; he has been canonically referred to as a demon over both films.

We have to take into account the circumstances of his death and what he did before. I don't want to say he was a lowly person, because we don't really have enough information (he was a grave robber but he might have been struggling, so I don't think being a robber qualifies him as a bad person necessarily), but he did partake in a dark ritual at his wedding (his wedding to Delores looked pretty "satanic"). So he committed dark acts before his death that tainted his soul, not to mention the vengeful murder after being poisoned. Personally I'd say he participated in that dark ritualistic wedding to please Delores, because I think he's more of a traditional, romantic wedding kind of guy, based on the weddings he has prepared himself for Lydia, but I'm diverting from the topic here.

What I want to say is that these darks acts already altered his soul. It may be why he was unable to pass on and became a civil servant in the afterlife (not to mention I think his soul has an attachment to the ritual of marriage, due to having been betrayed and murdered on his wedding night). His soul is bound and tainted, and he cannot pass on; he needs to serve some time as a civil servant on the other side. But he never finished serving, so that was the first step to becoming something "else". Eventually, with the passage of time, his soul transformed from just a regular, yet tainted soul, into something different, which Juno called a demon and I often like to think of as a poltergeist. All the time he's spent as this entity, learning all he can and separating himself more and more from the souls that eventually can pass on to the great beyond, has given him more and more power, is what I think, as he is more like supernatural force than a spirit at this point.

As for Delores, she is a soul-sucker entity in the afterlife because of the cult she participated in before her death. At death she wouldn't be able to pass on like other souls to the great beyond because of her dark acts at the end of her life, which shaped her soul into something different, the same thing that happened with Betel's soul. She was not only murdered; she herself committed murder on the night of her death, and surely she had killed others before Betelgeuse. These acts tainted her soul and made it so she cannot pass on to the great beyond. Now after her death she exists as this soul-sucking entity, and I believe the more time she spends as this entity, the more powerful she can become.

I think Betelgeuse is more powerful than Delores. Delores needs to be near her victims to suck their souls out; as far as I remember she needs to be directly in front (I gotta watch the movie again, but that's what I remember), and while she may have remote control of others (as in to hold them in place, push them aside as she did Lydia, etc), I don't think she could be able to hold Betelgeuse in place long enough to suck out his soul and finish him off. If they were to have a supernatural fight, I think unless she resorted to dirty tricks like putting Lydia in danger or something like that, Betelgeuse would win (though he seemed pretty scared of facing her). I think Betel has a lot more tricks he can use and is overall more powerful and experienced with the afterlife and how to manage his own power than she is. I just think he is more of a prankster type with his power; he's not one to be harming others for laughs just because (he has harmed others when he's been called to help by Lydia and the Maitlands, but other than that he doesn't go around hurting other spirits for shits and giggles), and he certainly isn't a fighter. I think he's more laid back, so he would avoid fight if he could.

Let's keep in mind also that Delores was in pieces in locked boxes in a storage room for over 600 years, so she's pretty "new" to the afterlife despite having died all those years ago. She must have been marinating in hateful vengeance and longing all aimed at Betelgeuse while she waited to be freed in those boxes... I gotta say this character deserves so much better. We needed to see her be a real threat to be reckoned with. I wanted her gone so bad, and I was scared she was going to suck Betelgeuse's soul whenever she was onscreen, but in the end she didn't do much. I thought it'd be harder to get rid of her (and I really thought she was going to go after Lydia, with the way she smashed her photo). I'm hoping for her comeback in the third movie.

To finish this off, I think the real answer to this question will probably never be answered, unless maybe in behind the scenes content or Tim Burton interviews etc. Heck, maybe Tim has answered it and I just don't know lol. Maybe the cartoon has its own answer, too, but these are my two cents!

The Tl;Dr version (because I tend to write a lot 😅): My headcanon is that Betelgeuse's power comes from how much his soul has deviated from humanity, and what he was doing near his time of death, which tainted his soul. Might be a reason why Betel was a civil servant, to "cleanse" that soul before passing on (we now know he didn't unalive himself), if he could even move on after cleansing his soul, that is, because I personally think his soul is bound and won't be able to move on until liberated from that attachment (that's my Betelgeuse and marriage theory). But he never finished his time of serving, so he as a soul in the netherworld became something else (demon, poltergeist), and that's how he continued to gain more and more power over the years, using his knowledge of the afterlife and existing in that state for so long.

Beetlejuice last night for the second time!! Gonna ramble about it below for my own sake. Tldr: I was puppet show kid, I was giggling like an idiot the whole time, and I loved every second.

Second time going yesterday! Oh my God, it was awesome. I got picked as the puppet show kid because there weren't any kids in my section (left orchestra). I jokingly half assed raised my hand. He proceeded to ask,

"Are you too old for a puppet show?"

I said, "Never!"

He replied, "Never? Okay!"

Then he did the puppet show bit. It was an amazing experience (again). He was so lively and hilarious tonight!! So many extra bits and adlibs from him that were so fun to catch. One of my favorite things I hadn't seen him do before is when Adam is going to console him, he says, "Get the fuck away-" all pouty and dumb.

Madison! Holy SHIT, she is amazing. Her voice is amazing, her facial expressions are so fun to watch if you’re close enough. She’s just fantastic to watch on stage. I got to see Ryan Breslin as Adam too! He was so funny, an amazing and silly Adam. I really loved seeing him perform on stage.

At the stage door, I met most of the cast. Justin was the last one out and almost everyone waiting at the stage door had left already. It was just me and another little girl. He was so sweet and awesome to talk to. This was my belated birthday present.. best financial decision ever. (I’m telling myself this so it will be true.)

Hi!

Im Theo, they/them pronoun enjoyer but you can call me just about anything I dont mind.

I love love biology and chemistry, and I actually research currently (cancer-treatment research, based on Paul Ehrlich’s magick bullet theory, if anyone was interested; also I get synthetise peptides and stuff so thats pretty cool, if anyone has any questions or just interested please let me know, I would love to chat about it:3) , despite being in high school. Other things that I like are musicals (Beetlejuice, Hamilton, Heathers and so on), theatre and writing in general (I act a lot, and have recently done a play on the lord of the flies) and also Good Omens. I heckin love good omens maan. And undertale was my childhood.

I got invested in dungeon meshi because of the anime but after a few episodes I got so excited I decided to read the manga. My favourite characters are Laios and Mithrun but honestly I love everyone in the story from the bottom of my heart.

(Also funfact this was supposed to be a sideblog for my main (citygeckoposts) and was originally intended to be scott pilgrim themed but then quickly got repurposed)

(Okay so this is just my opinion I respect anyone else’s opinion unless it’s something weird or gross I guess, and I’m not necessarily speaking for everyone here)

(Sorry I planned to make this a short post but I’m always yapping about my opinion more than I need to)

Reasons I didn’t like transformers one:

- the casting is one of those things where they just cast celebrities who aren’t necessarily voice actors to play the characters, for advertising purposes I guess? (That doesn’t mean all of them were bad though some did great)

- I didn’t really like the portrayal of some of the characters, bee was weird but I think that’s mainly because I’m a fan of the completely quite, talking with the radio bumblebee and this one just talks a lot but I like to think that maybe this was what he was like before that all happened which is honestly a great way to think about it. and you know Optimus was younger so I can’t really hate on that take on the character tbh. There are other characters that were kind of weird to me aswell but it’s mainly bee (idk why but he reminds me of zach galifianakis in the hangover)

- I get having celebrity cameos in things but seriously, if your gonna get Steve buscemi in your movie, use that as much as you can! I was so excited when I heard he was playing starsceam I thought “he’s perfect for that!” Only to watch it and I remember maybe five lines that he had and he was only really in one scene. It’s a bit like beetlejucie beetlejuice with willem Defoe, he appeared and then he left. Atleast he was in it more that Steve buscemi though

- the thing is, and again this is just my opinion, it wasn’t cool to me, maybe it was the aesthetic of it or maybe it was the animation I don’t know what made it not cool? Like it has so much potential to be really really cool but the fight scenes kinda just bored me a little, like with the new, micheal bay produced ones, even though a lot of people don’t like those movies you have to admit the scenes are cool, there’s big noises and they look bigger than everything else around them and they’ve got cool echoey voices. And even the original “the transformers the movie” it’s got cool things happening around each corner and amazing songs to go with it (I love that movie). And idk by the end I was just waiting to see who played the sentinel guy (I think it was John hamm)

- I personally don’t need to see Optimus primes backstory, I guess in my head he met like bee and that a lot later but he says my old friend in other newer movies so idk maybe I’m wrong with that.

- also, no idea who elita is, at first I thought she was meant to be ARCEE which I was hopeing she wasn’t but yeah I thought she was gonna die in the movie because I hadn’t heard of her before but I’m also not a transformers super fan so maybe she’s in something I haven’t watched yet.

- also their faces were kinda weird to me since they didn’t look very robotic but you know they were probably going for the original designs too but the original transformers don’t really move their face too much so idk.

Reasons I liked transformers one

- I think some of the voice actors who had experience in voice acting did really REALLY well, Brian Tyree Henry as megatron I think is PERFECT casting he did so well in that role, same with keegan micheal key even though I didn’t like his character very much, John hamm as sentinel prime, he made him sound annoying yet also evil. Steve buscemi even though he wasn’t in it very much I think was perfect casting for starscream

- at first I didn’t like the designs of the characters but then I realised afterwards that they were going for the original transformers designs to base the characters off and I think that’s a good way of doing it and I respect that

- while I didn’t really like the whole ascension into Optimus prime thing (idk why there isn’t a reason for that I guess) I really really loved D - 16s descent into becoming megatron throughout the movie all because his hero lied to him, and i like how they showed both of them ascending and descending at the same time. Also I love how he killed sentinel, someone didn’t just come up to him and be like “no stop” and then he just left like he did at the end, and the way he killed him too by ripping him apart? Honestly it’s probably standing out since I was getting a little bored towards the end.

- I also like the idea that deceptacons were something that were formed rather that a species like other bad transformers.

- at first I was a little confused at the idea that some transformers can’t transform, because I was sure that they could all transform and i thought it was a weird thing to add, and then they added the twist that sentinel took their core thingys from them so they couldn’t transform and that made that whole idea so much better to me. Should I go dark with this? I won’t go too dark, this is probably old by now but what sentinel did to those transformers is what trump thinks parents and doctors do to trans kids (like I mean he seems to think that people get gender affirming surgery without their permission?)

- overall, I’ve started to like this movie the more I see people talk about it, that’s how I feel about a lot of movies, I didn’t like Longlegs that much when I watched it and then I saw all this fanart and discussions and I think a lot better of it now, which is the same with transformers one, I like it a little better each time I see something about it on this platform, and because of that I’m open to watching the movie again to see how I feel about it

- also this wasn’t something I was worried about too much because I get why they wouldn’t put this in the movie it’s not a very known thing but I wonder if they would’ve actually had female transformers by then? Because originally they were all male and then they went to other planets and found out about gender and how they were limiting themselves to one gender, so many of them became female transformers, but I guess I just thought that they probably didn’t go to other planets by then so yeah idk.

Anyways that’s all I have to say that I can think of at the moment, and as I said this is just my opinion and I might get yelled at for this but honestly I’m just saying this to see what other people’s opinions are and if some people agree with me about these things

Yes, so i SAVORED drawing this man (~3 hours). I think the silliness of the suit and then turning it fancy parallels who satoru is. Very silly and smts wonk, but he also has status ✨ either as the strongest or a very rich man, so he can be classy or chill when he wants to be. plus just giving him a vest makes his waist SCHNATCHED.

Ughhhhhhaijsjsjsksks his hair. I wanted to give him that partially slicked back but also half tousled look. Because that’s so scrumptious. At the same time that was so hard to draw aksnsnsmsmsnsmsksm but it turned out nicely in the end.

I Think My Musicals Hyper-fixation is Coming Back!

This is going to be sort of an aimeless post celebrating a form of art that i like, so keep that in mind while reading

I'd treat this as a negative thing, because y'know, musicals are not a popular form of telling stories so i'd be really afraid of caring about them again, but nah, if it comes back i'm fine with it.

A bit of context, it was in 2019, one of my favorite youtubers at the time jacksfilms made some inside jokes of 2 videos he had done some years prior, some videos about Alexsander Hamilton, i was curious and watched the videos and then discovered they were based on a broadway musical, at the time i didnt watch musicals so i didnt care at first, until i wacthed it and fell in love, that was the start of a 3 year hyperfixation with musicals, mainly hamilton but musicals in general, and in that time i discovered some of my favorite stuff ever, In the Heights, Book of Mormon, Avenue Q, Beetlejuice, it was great, of course with some bumps since wacthing broadway musicals is hard when you don't even live in the US (thank god), and by being a hyperfixation it was a nightmare for my friends that dont like musicals to listen to me yapping about them for hours.

The fixation was falling in 2020 but a thing, a tragic tragic thing happened, Hamilton on Disney+ happened and my musicals fixation was back at full swing, i don't like Hamilton anymore these days, my opinions on politics evolved to the point of seeing this musical as just a jerk-off for a friend (a right hand man if you will) of a guy who had a shit ton of slaves, and i cant accept this a progressive statement anymore, i just see it as a united states legacy jerk off, and nedless to say i dont like the united states very much. But yeah, because of this my musicals fixation insisted until 2021 where i did a video of one of my favs, the SpongeBob musical, a video im still proud of to this day.

Fast-foward to 2024 and my Doctor Who and videogame soundtracks came back without a warning and i feel like slowly my musicals fixation is coming back, probably because of some Musical Hell videos, i love Diva so much, im sad she abandoned the reviews, im watching them once a day for a week now and it has being a blast, she is funny and her videos are thoughtful, they are not Nostalgia Critic style, where he just complains about the movie with shitty jokes, it sparked my interest again a little bit.

But some things have changed, im not interested in broadway anymore, maybe on off and off-off broadway but not broadway, the more i stared at the current state of broadway it just feels like a tourist spot instead of a place for artistic expression, i may be wrong but thats how i feel, but theater as an art form is more interesting to me, if it actually comes back full swing ill be focusing my energy on finding more experimental, left field or independent shit out of the broadway end, im not saying all broadway is bad tho, we still have great art there, im talking more of broadway as a capitalist institution instead of a creative body, the soul feels like it left the body ages ago somewhere more interesting, im excited to find new stuff that shows me why theater is great again, if you read this to this point and have any recommendations im really willing to listen, mainly if they have a proshot.

I love art in general, try to see everything i can and i hope i can see more musicals, and plays than ever.

Some headcanons/ robot master anatomy because I like to think about how they might function. Also some extra stuff of me rambling about certain RMs/ Protoman just off the top of my head. There's a lot of yapping so putting a read more button down :]

In one of my scribbles, I mentioned how Protoman has busted optics when dealing with fights or getting hurt, and that goes the same for others. There are three functions the eyes can do; regular, sleep, and stress.

Regular is just regular function, the eyes moving and behaving normally (correctly dilated pupils, normal movement)

Sleep is when they are in a recharge state. Upon closing their eyes when recharging or shutting down, the black pupil in their eye will grow bigger, til their eyes are completely black. In Sleep state, it's normal as their eyelids close, but it may look creepy when they just stare with insanely black eyes.

Stress/ damage; since the eyes are made to have a liquid in them to act upon the wake and sleep state of the robot, they can be affected if damaged. Results can show cracks or even leaks if the eyes or head is damage in a certain way. If this happens then the Robots have to get fixed lest their eyesight is worse (cough Proto avoids maintenance cough)

I like to think that the Robot Masters can dream in their sleep. This can be in a recharge state, however, their dreams are most often made up of their memory banks of things they have saved. It can be important information from when they first awoke, to things they may save to remember things or just in general. There might be moments where they have deja vu when in reality they just dreamt the day again.

This goes for Robot's having nightmares as well. If a Robot has a particular memory they need to delete or relay over, it depends on what the contents of the memory may have. They're welcome to keep it if it's a happy memory. If it's a bad memory or one that causes stress, fear or trauma to a robot master then it can be harder to delete. It can glitch and resurface, as part of the robot dealing with the horror again. Robot Masters will have trouble dealing either such memories if they occur through their recharge state or in general.

Examples could be that the RM may remember being under Wilys control and harming others, (e.i. had an idea for Fireman having a bad dream about himself attacking Rock when he was under Wily's control (the flame of justice was tampered with that day, he felt so bad about it), and Elec sharing that he had the same nightmare too. Also personal headcanon of Elec being the leader of their team, and he has bad dreams of losing them permanently, one about Fire Man in particular but that's another time for me to yap about)

I like to think of animal nature's of some robots (i.e. Crash Man, Snake Man, MM2 line etc) and them acting on it. Like Crash being birdlike, but being one of those big menacing birds and staring Megaman or someone down from afar. Like a giant vulture staring before jumping off to fight. Snake Man, his helmet to me can be flexible. Since he works underground and crawls between spaces, I feel like it can close on his face to protect him, as well as act as a large head to see out through. if he gets upset or close to something, can actually unhinge his jaw. His helmet can be flexible and he can snap at something in an instant rather than just sit behind his helmet as protection. He looks like the sandworm from Beetlejuice with one head already in a maw. The same thing applies to the other robots that Wily made, they are more terrifying in the sense of trying to understand something and approach it cautiously before striking.

Also, those that have powers, like Magnet Man, could have them affected through emotions without knowing. I like to imagine Magent listens to music, and as he does, things move around him, or he dances and things just move as he's excited. Or when he's upset, metal objects shake and scrape as he's angry.

The MM2 line is TALL. No questions they are TALL and menacing. That’s why when I imagine Protoman going to Wily after leaving Light, since his core is reactive, he tries to “fix” his model. His model used to be a bit taller and bigger than Rocks, more stocker as Light was trying to figure out how to mimic a robot to human anatomy and for combat (of course in turn to Joe robots). Wily in turn, changes around his core and model to both roughly protect and sharpen his model, making it more reserved for combat and movement, even as there are lots of pieces Protoman gets banged up.

Elec Man, since he deals with electrical all day and is his purpose, gets overwhelmed from hearing that kind of power everyday. He hears it at work all around him, at home, and in other robots too. Like a constant humming, vibration that changes or varies

You don't think that for a selfish and possessive man it would be strange for him to (let) Lydia get married and have a child, do you?

It’s a good question. We can’t know for sure how he felt all these years watching Lydia fall in love with someone else and live her life without him. Might have been devastating to him, even though I think his feelings for her grew very gradually over the years as he watched from a distance. I think his feelings evolved from selfish desire to get his way, into true yet misguided love (considering he’s head over heels for a person who’s not only alive, but who hasn’t seen him in over 30 years).

I think he simply didn’t have access to Lydia for years, initially, until he learned he could reach her through what he called their psychic connection. By the time he figured it out maybe she was already married, who knows. I think he’d been watching her helplessly from afar unable to make a connection for years.

Maybe he’d have tried something to separate Lydia from her romantic partners if he could, but I think he didn’t have the power to. It’s all speculation ofc but I think he also at some point thought he’d never be able to have her, so he let her live without him and settled for watching her and showing her glimpses of himself, hoping to make a connection, until he saw his opportunity to make contact again after the death of Lydia’s father.

I have to rewatch the movie but I think at that point he knew Lydia would come back to the house and he could manifest to her in the model in the attic and have more access to her, possibly get her to say his name etc. The model seems to be for him a solid access to the living world, whilst he previously could only show glimpses of himself to Lydia. But yes I’m totally rambling now lol. I’m in the camp that believes Betel genuinely is in love with Lydia, so he might have also let her go all that time despite feeling their connection (I’m hoping they’ll go with a soulmate story. Unlikely, but a girl can hope) precisely because he loves her. If you love someone truly, you only want them to be happy. Even in the movie he reunited her with her lost husband and gave her a moment to be with him and Astrid. Betelgeuse might be less selfish than he seems in the surface.
