"Papa, don't tremble so much. We haven't even made it down the aisle yet,"
"Oh, come now, Aggie. Its not every day an old man sees his only daughter be married off..."
Once in the dear dead days beyond recall, When on the world the mists began to fall, Out of the dreams that rose in happy throng Low to our hearts Love sang an old sweet song; And in the dusk where fell the firelight gleam, Softly it wove itself into our dream.
Just a song a twilight, when the lights are low, And the flick'ring shadows softly come and go, Tho' the heart be weary, sad the day and long, Still to us at twilight comes Love's old song, comes Love's old sweet song.
Even today we hear Love's song of yore, Deep in our hearts it dwells forevermore. Footsteps may falter, weary grow the way, Still we can hear it at the close of day. So till the end, when life's dim shadows fall, Love will be found the sweetest song of all.
Just a song a twilight, when the lights are low, And the flick'ring shadows softly come and go, Tho' the heart be weary, sad the day and long, Still to us at twilight comes Love's old song, comes Love's old sweet song
"I now pronounce you, husband and wife."

"Rulings not Rules" and Insufficient Design
So I've been considering many aspects of design as I delve back into the OSR (where I cut my teeth as a kid playing ttrpgs, but where I have not been for over a decade and a half), and I've been met with many catchy lingo phrases touted religiously by long-time players. I want to address one of them today: "Rulings not Rules.".
The phrase, at least according to cursory research, originates from Matthew J. Finch's excellent work, "A Quick Primer for Old School Gaming", where he describes it as the first "Zen Moment" that can make OSR-style TTRPG click for players. The thesis he sets forth is that the rulesets of old games were intentionally left sparse so as to exclusively be a resource for the GM, an incomplete collection from which to create your own rulings in the moment using some combination of "common sense" and die rolls.
Further, he (and many others) elaborate that in this lack, player engagement with the world is deepened; without a skill to roll for "Disarm Trap", everyone is encouraged to interact with and "solve" the trap as they would were they really there. See Brooks Dailey's "The Danger of Skills" for an excellent breakdown of this design outcome separate from Finch's work- I'm perpetually left considering and reconsidering the phrase "Before the addition of the Thief, everyone was the thief." from that blog post.
But I digress- I've discovered, over the years, that this thesis is immensely successful and informative, foundational really to an entire, rewarding style of play. But I do also find, to my taste as someone re-entering this older style of play, that many games seem to take its words too literally, or misunderstand the core message it's trying to impart.
If the fundamental idea is that a rule restricts the players, I have found some to take this message to mean that as few rules should exist as possible. That rules are a detriment to a game, and only the barest essentials should be provided. And I find, increasingly, frustration with this attitude. Rules are not a nuisance to be excised from the hobby, they are a tool to be carefully considered and wielded, a fine-honed blade that can sculpt the experiental clay of the player experience before the kiln firing of publication.
Let's take some unnamed examples, because I feel as certain that this post will be receieved extremely poorly by some as I do that my conclusion is an important one to some others:
1. Falling is codified in the rules. If you fall X amount of distance, you take some calculable, consistent amount of damage. 2. Being prone is codified in the rules. If you are tripped or otherwise fall over, you suffer some number of penalties and others gain some number of advantages. 3. Your ability to disarm traps is codified in the rules. It's a talent that can be practiced, perfected, and invoked, and it has a consistent outcome, whether chance-based or otherwise. 4. Your ability to carry things as an adventurer is codified in the rules. You can hold only so many things at once, and you cannot hold any more than that.
Now, one of these should stand out to those with a savvy eye for design. Examples 1, 2, and 4 are all foundational aspects of the game system, things that shape how the world responds to being interacted with. Example 3, on the other hand, is a rule creating interaction with the world, it decides how a player can interact with traps. If you can't disarm traps, you can't disarm traps. But a fall is always a fall.
In Beau Rancourt's "On Pathfinder (and most TTRPG) Combat Being A Separate Game" (and sorry for the long quote), they state of rules-heavy (sub-)systems "This allows players to reason about the game and make future plans without the sense that they're playing Calvinball. It allows the GM to be fair and consistent when the PCs' lives are on the line. It encourages and rewards system mastery for the folks who seek that (since now there's a coherent system to master).". I would extend this out into interactions with the world- the standard methods through which the world responds to players (the occasional necessities (and unrepresentable through player reasoning) of swimming, climbing, picking locks, falling, and especially combat should be heavily codified and reliable.
Not in such a way that creative engagement is espoused, or that overcodification becomes a problem (as per Arnold Kemp's ""Rulings not Rules" is Insufficient", where they say "[If I've written] two pages of rules on how to attack tiny animals in your stomach, I've codified the acceptable options and excluded more esoteric solutions."; it takes a delicate hand, yes, but I'd argue a not-too-subjective line of where is "too much" or "too little" to make that decision, and I think I can offer a few considerations and a few pointers to internalise when designing your systems.
1. If the thing is a result of the world's response to players, it should be a rule. Falling damage should be a consistent rule (though how individual players attempt, or don't, to mitigate such damage may not be). 2. If the thing is reliable in how it can be handled, it should be a rule. How swimming does or doesn't impede the movement or survival of characters, dependent or not on their gear varying by your level of simulationism, should be a consistent rule. 3. If the thing cannot reasonably be expected of a player, it should be a rule. Lockpicking is perhaps the most obvious example of this because short of pulling out a real lock and picks and asking the player to solve it, there is no way to reason your way through it. Instead, we either set time, roll dice, or require certain tools. 4. Finally, if the thing is a risk the players can consistently encounter, it should be a rule. This is best exemplified in combat, and re-referencing Rancourt's words above, how ensuring this engagement is consistent creates a game that is fair. How individual players may attempt to interact with, subvert, or succumb to catastrophe within these rules remains a viable avenue of expression, but giving a foundation off which to build pitches the onus onto the players and takes an immense load off of the GM. Rather than someone falling into the waves and the GM having to come up on the spot with some variation on "slower movement", "ditch some things or drown", "you just drown", or "test [attribute] to see what happens", a decision that may end up needing revision or reminding down the road, the decisionmaking is immediately in the players' court; they know the risks at stake, and must imagine a way out of them.
There are pitfalls to this as well though, and while I won't itemise them I will detail my favoured solution as of now: While a rule should create a reliable response from the world, it should also allow for the player to engage in many different avenues. In this way, skills themselves become detestable, but attributes remain important tools, alongside some "other method" of specialisation (without some way to differentiate yourself from your companions, you end up gaming exclusively as players, not characters. perhaps your will to impede or differentiate from yourself through roleplay is stronger than mine, but i prefer when the system can support that all its own). Joshua McCrowell's His Majesty the Worm, I think, exemplifies the virtues I've been espousing quite succinctly. Each character has four Attibutes, which are the simple, physiologically-bound modifiers that are added to many "tests" (the game's term for checks). Each character then also has three Motifs, which are two-word descriptors of your character or their past experiences (say Zen Wizard, Naughty Acrobat, and Fanatical Scribe). These Motifs provide an additional bonus on tests to represent your experiences and specialties. In this way, the virtues of skills (the ability to express specialisation, the shaping of a character with history or talents, nudging towards certain handlings of tasks) survive, with their pitfalls rotting off into the void.
In short, I find that games that provide a reliable route through which the GM can adjudicate as little as possible on the standard things, saving their mind and energy for the inventive and the clever, for the players' imaginative solutions, rather than their mundane actions, have far more virtue on both sides of the screen than those that expect for every table to imagine their own guidelines for swimming, for falling, and for picking locks. I hope to see more games, going into the future of this hobby, embrace what does work with the new and wield it to the betterment of our collective fantasy.
Thanks everyone. All of the cited reading is below for your convenience.

Hi! Have there been any updates on Dragon Age 4 since they released those pics awhile ago?
Hello! Good question, thank you. Here’s the catch-up - (:D)
-----
On Dragon Age Day 2020 the official Dragon Age website updated with 4 new art pieces and 4 new short stories, which are linked to Tevinter Nights. This post has a summary and lots of speculation of mine from the news around that time (but it doesn’t include more recent news).
The EA Chief Studios Officer wrote this post on the BioWare Blog, on BioWare’s future and staff changes. This was Casey Hudson’s statement on him leaving and here’s Mark Darrah’s. Christian Dailey came on board as the new Executive Producer of DA, having left Anthem (here’s his post). DGaider discussed the staff changes a bit in a stream.
A “Dread Wolf Rises” lithograph came out. There was an official site update. There were these dev interviews with lil snippets (three). Mark said this about quantum characters. The devs tweeted some new concept art pieces: one, two, three, four. Of course, this trailer dropped at the Game Awards, and this was the accompanying site update (full version of the mural, two), the accompanying tweet and the accompanying blog post.
There was this article in the Edmonton Journal about BioWare’s future. There were some snippets in a dev stream. The franchise got a new logo (two) and this was Christian Dailey’s new Twitter icon and banner for a while. This came out of an EA conference call. There was this snippet and these, and this mysterious tweet from Matthew.
News dropped that BioWare cancelled Anthem to focus on DA4 and move devs to that. Jason Schrier tweeted this and wrote this article on the reported multiplayer pivot. They might be streamlining inventory management? This tease about Qunari Lady caught my eye. Mark Darrah made this vid. The comic writers mentioned DA4 a bit in this interview. The Chief Producer gave this talk on what it’s been like working on DA4 during the pandemic (two), John Epler was on this podcast giving an interview on his job and work, there was this other earning call, and there were some snippets at Edmonton Direct and Gamers For Groceries 2. Also they are currently hiring lots of staff for DA4 and other projects.
If you haven’t already, I recommend to check out the most recent comic series Dark Fortress, as there is a bit of setup. (This post is a guide to the post-Inquisition secondary material, which you might find useful if you’re unfamiliar with it.)
And now at the moment all eyes are on EA Play Live in July. Nothing confirmed or hinted, but we hope. Keep an eye on this calendar, I regularly update it
(here is my Dragon Age 4 tag in case this is useful to you! it’s a catch-all tag so is not just news, it also has stuff like fanart and speculation, but that’s where you can find it. i like to collect and collate all the scraps i find hh)
Hope this helps and sry about the scrappy/stream-of-consciousness aspect of this post. :)

The Cleaners Princess Kenny Omega smut
Summary: Olivia Jackson was the bullet clubs Princess, Kenny’s Princes. When she got hurt and had to put up here boots he and Kenny broke up. Now she’s back, and he and Kenny have some feelings.
Warning: Daddy kink, smut, some power kink I think, hair pulling, just generally nastiness.
Olivia POV
3 years. It had been three years since I made a mistake in a match. Three years since I was carted out of the Tokyo dome on a stretcher. Three years since I had to retire from the sport I loved more than anything.
I couldn't get these thoughts out of my head as I drove down the road to Daileys place. I had finally gotten cleared to get back in the ring, and just in time for a huge moment on my brothers new company AEW. I turned into the parking lot of the event, and no one was out there. For a better surprise factor I was going to show up after the show already started. I found a parking spot and pulled my phone out, sending a quick text to Matt so he knew I was here.
I leaned my head forward a bit, letting it rest on the steering wheel. Was I really ready to get back in the ring? I practically jumped out of my skin when there was a knock on the window. I looked over to see Matt laughing causing me to role my eyes. I got out of the car, crossing my arms over my chest. "Really Matthew?"
"Oh calm down, it was funny." He said winking at me. "You got your bag?"
"Ya, I'm the back." I did heading around to the trunk to open it. As I pulled out my bag I looked over at Matt. "Where's my other half?"
"Fucked up his knee during our match earlier tonight. He should be fine, but we had to change the finish tonight a bit." He explained as he took my bag from me.
"You know I can carry my own shit right?" I asked as we walked to the back door.
"You sure? You couldn't back in Japan."
"That was a gimmick. You know me, living the gimmick." I joked poking his side.
"Ya, your the best at Playing entitled little sister. You kept it up even after you stopped wrestling." He said making me huff.
"That's not fair, I'm not even the youngest."
"Ya, but your the youngest of yourself, me, and Nick." He pointed out.
"Me and Nick were born the same day!"
"There was like a 5 minute difference." My head swung around to see one of my closest friends Adam page.
"What's up cowboy?" I asked crossing my arms over my chest as we stopped to talk to him.
"The sky."
"No shot Sherlock."
"Liv, watch your language." Matt mumbled shaking his head. If you went off of looks allow you would know me, Matt, and Nick were all related, but I acted so different then them. I drank about as much as Adam, and often would swear like a sailor. The only thing I had in common with them was wrestling really.
"Well I should probably get going. Got to get ready for the big night" I said winking at Adam as I turned to follow Matt down the hall.
"The Doc brought Nick back to the room before you got here, and you can get ready in here." He explained before pushing open the door. Nick is sat on the couch with his leg up, Karl was standing talking to Gallows, but Gallows wasn't looking at me. I smiled and put my finger up to my lips, telling Nick and Karl to stay quiet. Nick chuckled, and shook his head.
"Hey Matt." Karl said, clearly trying not to laugh as I snuck up behind him. I ran a few steps and jumped onto his back.
"GALLOWS!" I yelled as my arms wrapped around his shoulders and my legs around his waist. He surged forward in surprised, his arms flying out to steady him.
"Olivia!" He said surprised as he looked at me over his shoulder. I smiled at him giggling.
"Hi." He just chuckled at me and grabbed under my knees and hoisted me up so it was more of a piggyback.
"Sometimes I wonder how your related to those to." Karl said laughing.
"I still don't think she is." Matt said rolling his eyes. I simply smiled as I jumped down from Gallows back (witch is pretty far), landing with a slight thud.
"Well, I've seen almost everyone. Where's Kenny?" I asked looking around the room, and I could feel the mood shift to uncomfortableness. I rolled my eyes at their nervousness. Me and Kenny has been dating back in Japan, I had even been known as 'The Cleaners Princess'. When I got hurt we tried the long distance, but it simply didn't work out. We split up, but we never hated each other. I still saw him when he came to see Matt and Nick in California.
"Really guys? It's been more then 2 years. Besides, I'll have to see him regularly if I'm going to be working with you again." I reminded them.
"We know. He will show up with Don at some point, it's normal to have him show up late." Nick explained as I nodded.
"Ok. I'm gonna go get changed, do my makeup, all that good shit." I said walking over to the bathroom they had. Once inside I locked the door and pulled my sweatshirt off. I did the same with my shirt and bra, but paused as I looked in the mirror. I had a couple nasty scars on my body from surgeries over the years.
My fingers traced over the small tattoo on my side. 'Livin the dream' was written in small black letters. Most of it was covered by even ring gear, so no one else knew it was there. Except of course Kenny. A dare one night after I drank a considerable amount, also the night me and Kenny got together.
I pulled myself away from the thought as I reached into my bag grabbing another bra, and my crop top version of a young Bucks tee shirt. I pulled my sweat pants I had worn here off, and pulled the ripped jeans on. The fans had always called my crazy Jackson, witch matched that I was always the 'wild child'. I then pulled out my old leather jacket. It was cold and smooth, just like the last time I put it on. I had never dared to where it out of wrestling. On the back the word 'Princess' was spelt out in light pink letters that had a look of being attached badly. I loved it. It's Time to put on a show.
—————————————————
"What's the drunkest thing you've ever done?" Kenny asked both of us sitting on the couch in his room after drinks with the guys.
"Honestly? Probably my tattoo." I answered.
"Tattoo?"
"Ya, don't you remember? On my side. I got it the night we got together." I said pointing to my left side.
"I'm gonna be honest I only remember certain parts of it." He confused taking a sip of water.
"So, how as Kenny Omega been? Nice to see the cleaner back." I said shifting a bit and pishimg at the lose hair that had come out of the ponytail.
"Why does everyone keep saying the cleaners 'back'?! I've always been him!"
"Probably just waiting for the mean ruthless Kenny. I mean, you were the guy who would do what it took to win, and you did that against Mox." I shrugged.
"I guess really that the cleaner kinda died off when you left." He admitted. "I mean, I had put a lot of time in making us the 'power couple' of the wrestling world."
"Lest be honest, we were the hottest couple. Plus I bet people are already wondering on twitter." I said pulling my phone out to open twitter. I had about a million notifications and as I clicked through them until I found one that stopped me. It read: Kenny's princess is back!! I bet she's calling his daddy tonight 😉
I felt a blush creep up my neck, and practically jumped when I felt Kenny's breath on my neck. "Well look at that. You were right." I'm sure it could look like he was just reading the tweet for the hell of it, but I could hear the change in his voice. I get his hands on my waist as he turned me towards him, our faces inches apart.
"I don't think I told you how much I've missed seeing you in the ring." He whispered, thumbs rubbing at my sides. "Did you miss me?"
"Depends on the part." I whispered, my hand moving up to his hair, and I gripped it lightly. "I missed playing with your long hair," I let my hands move along his arms to his fingers, "I've missed your muscle, and these fingers." I mumbled running my hand on them. "And I've course this." I whispered as o reached down and palmed his dick, and I could feel it was rock hard.
He groaned out and pulled me into a rough kiss that had our teeth clashing together. We continued to make out as my hands went back to his hair, pulling lightly now and again. When he finally pulled away we were both breathing heavily. "You know your a teas right?"
"What do you mean?" I asked turning my head in confusion.
"This damn jacket. Last I checked you were The Cleaners Princess anymore." He whispered in his rough voice. He leaned forward a bit to nip at my neck.
"Maybe I miss being your princess."
"Well, I may just have some great news, there is an audition for that exact spot." He whispered pulling jacket from my shoulders slowly.
"What do I have to do?"
'Make the king feel good." I knew immediately what that meant, and slid from the couch to the ground letting out a small sound of pain when I hit the ground. "Careful babe. You will be making those sounds a bit later."
I reached forward and undid his pants and with his help pulled his jeans and boxers. His length stood tall and hard in front of me, the head an angry red. I looked up at him as he gave me a nod and I reached forward. As my hand wrapped around he moaned out. I ran my hand up and down it a bit before Kenny grabbed me by the hair. You better get sucking baby."
He lead me with my hair as my mouth wrapped around his tip. I recognized the taste, witch caused me to moan out, making him moan from the feeling. He lead me up and down for a bit, and I could feel him trying not to thrust up. "Fuck it." He mumbled pulling me off him and yanking me to his lap. He reached up and didn't even Try taking my shirt and bra off before he just ripped it. "Get your god damn pants off." He growled into my ear. I stood up quickly pulling them off, and when I looked back Kenny was waiting.
I crawled back into his lap, making him hold my hips. "Rode me slut." He whispered, making me shudder. He hadn't prepared me at all, so as I snuck down I could tell I was tight, but clearly didn't care. Once I bottomed out is at for a moment, trying to catch my breath. He leans forward his breath on my ear. "Bounce bitch."
Immediate I started riding him like I would die if I stoped. "Fuck, Kenny!" I moaned as I bounced. I get his mouth take one of my buds into his mouth as he sucked harshly.
"Let's use the right name. You've done this before." He said sternly. I could feel my climax coming, and knew he wouldn't let me off that easy.
"Fuck Daddy! I'm so close please!" I moaned as I tried to keep up my pace, slamming down on his Enyo match his thrust.
"Fuck do it princess." He encouraged making me shudder as I came. My body practically going limp. He pushed me forward off of his lap to the ground and positioned his dock in my face as he started to jerk off. I watched as he got closer, and stuck out my tongue as he came all over my face. Neither of us moved for a moment before Kenny pulled my back up, my legs shaking as I got up. He reached over and grabbed some blanket and used it to wipe us both off.
"House keeping is going to hate you." I mumbled my eyes already feeling heavy.
"I think I'll survive." He said pulling me closer. Did this mean we still liked each other? I pushed the thought away, just wanting Kenny to hold me as I slept.
AN: I really liked writing this and though about make a full series about it. Would any read it if I did?

Bioware Austin Executive Producer Christian Dailey has revealed a new piece of Dragon Age 4 character concept art, showing off a mage, as well as a previously-revealed magic archer.Dailey posted the concept to Twitter over the weekend, which features a character standing in a rain-drenched alley in Minrathous, wearing a boxy cape and wielding a staff with a snake at its helm. Dailey was prompted to post it by Dragon Age Creative Director Matthew Goldman, who tagged Daily previously, noting that fans "could use a little pick me up."
Back in January, Dailey posted a similar piece of Dragon Age concept art featuring a helmeted archer character in a fractured world. It's not clear whether either of these new faces will show up in the forthcoming Dragon Age 4 as set characters, or if they represent player classes, but it's nice to see Bioware Austin's vision for the look of the game.
A recent report suggested that Dragon Age 4 will be a single-player RPG with no multiplayer. The game will be set in the land of Tevinter, as confirmed by a recently released BioWare book.

Molly Burch: Five Questions
BY JORDAN MAINZER
Earlier this year, Austin-based singer/songwriter Molly Burch released her debut album Please Be Mine on Captured Tracks. It’s a debut album that was half-written when she moved to Austin, having broken up with boyfriend Dailey Toliver, half-written after he moved to Austin and the two got back together. Toliver, a great musician, plays lead guitar on the record, but Burch is the unquestionable star, a singer with great vocal range who can do country and pop equally well.
I was first exposed to both Burch and Toliver with their supporting work on Adam Torres’ Pearls to Swine last year (Burch contributed vocals, Toliver piano and bass), but Please Be Mine has seen them break out on their own. I spoke to Burch a couple months ago over the phone to ask her about Please Be Mine, playing live, and her favorite music. Read five questions from our conversation below, edited for length and clarity.
Since I Left You: Please Be Mine is one of those debut albums that happens to be a breakup album. How do you try to balance telling your story with consciously introducing yourself to the music listening public?
Molly Burch: They go hand in hand. I guess I definitely wanted it to be a personal album but also something people would enjoy. When I was writing, I wasn’t necessarily thinking about my debut. I recorded it all before I signed to Captured Tracks even though I knew I wanted to release it. I’m happy that it’s a personal album based on my current relationship.
SILY: How much do the songs still resonate with you? Do they feel raw, or do they feel like you’ve had them for a long time?
MB: I feel like I’ve had them for a long time. It’s still fun to play them out. I feel like they change in little ways the more my band and I play them live.
SILY: What do you bring to the live show that’s different from the recording?
MB: The recording is pretty much live. We recorded it as a four-piece live and went back in to add overdubs. It sounds pretty similar to the actual record.
SILY: What’s the inspiration behind the album art?
MB: One of my best friends who lives in Phialdelphia--Kelly Giarrocco--she took the cover photo. I wanted to be on the cover because it was my debut album. We took a seated canvas and painted it light grey-ish blue and hung it up. I just loved the textures of it and the colors--it really fit into the album. One of my friends in L.A. is a very talented painter, and she did all the paintings in the insert. I always knew I wanted to incorporate her art in everything I produced.
SILY: As someone who cites a lot of classic songwriter influences, what are some of your favorite songs of all time and some of your favorite newer songs?
MB: "Stardust” by Nat King Cole. “God Bless The Child” by Billie Holliday. Some of my favorite newer bands--I love Natalie Prass and Matthew E. White. I love Solange.

A letter to Matthew Dailey from his daughter Agnes, 189x
Dearest Papa,
We are here!
We arrived in Chestnut Ridge late this morning after a near two days of travel, bursting with both relief and anticipation. Until now the idea of being here seemed a mere fantasy, but now that we have actually made it, I am now reminded of just how real and wonderful it all really is. We are both exhausted from our journey but nevertheless overjoyed to finally be here after so much dreaming and planning, it scarcely feels feel to either of us even now.
The farm, our farm...what can I say about it? Its ours, and that’s the most important thing. This one in particular was being sold off for quite cheap after its previous owners passed on, and although I do not wish to be rude, it isn’t difficult to see why the bank was so eager to hand it over to us. It is quite an old building and in need of several serious repairs, I fear that one strong gust of wind would be enough to knock it apart.
Will seems optimistic that we’ll be able to make it work, in spite of the obvious problems. He did have to take out a small loan to pay for it, but he’s confident that we’ll be able to pay it back after our first good harvest. If all goes well, that is, which I trust that it will. We’ve come too far for it not to.
Yours truly,
Mrs. Agnes Barclay
P.S. Do let Aunt Winifred know I miss her dearly, and I plan to write to her as well just as soon as I get the chance.

BioWare Blog update:
A Message From Mark Darrah
I have been at BioWare since the 90s. Back when CRPGs were considered a dead genre. Through the last 23 years, I have watched video games evolve and grow into a truly powerful communication medium. We are an important part of so many people’s lives. And BioWare has been a part of this journey. Though I remain confident in BioWare’s strength and continued place in this conversation, I have decided to retire from my position at BioWare.
This has been a very difficult decision for me. The team of amazing developers on Dragon Age, make my life fuller and better. They have taught me so much. But the strength of the team is also what makes this possible. I know that Dragon Age won’t just survive without me, it will thrive.
BioWare has always been about telling emotional stories through characters. We have wandered away from this central guiding pillar at times, but I am confident that the next Dragon Age will show that we remain committed to this kind of game. We will have a lot to show you.
This year has been transformative to the way we do everything. The way we work, the way we socialize; these are things that have changed. Some of these changes are temporary but others will remain forever. I believe that this gives us an opportunity to bring in new voices. To reimagine how we work. To strengthen how we tell stories.
Dragon Age will be in good hands. Christian Dailey will be moving into the Executive Producer role. Christian Dailey is a strong leader and will provide great insight into the rest of the Dragon Age leadership who remain. This is a team that includes people with decades of experience at BioWare. I am confident that, together, this is the team that can make this Dragon Age the best one yet.
Matthew Goldman remains the Creative Director. He has been on Dragon Age since the early days of Dragon Age: Origins. Like me, he has been involved in the franchise as it has changed over the years. He has a deep understanding of what it has been and what it has the potential to be.
Mass Effect too has an exciting future. I won’t say too much but I am impressed by the growth of Mike Gamble and I am looking forward to all that franchise will do under his leadership
Likely you are reading this entry after reading a similar one from Casey Hudson. If not, surprise! He is also announcing his retirement today. Casey has taught me a lot of things over the years, especially since his return three years ago. I look forward to seeing what he does next.
This has been a long and exciting journey. I am incredibly grateful to Ray and Greg for taking a chance on a new graduate back in the earliest days of BioWare. I have done my best to live up to the values that they set in those early days. Values I think still flow through the (now virtual) halls of BioWare.
More than anything I am thankful for the ability to have touched so many lives. To have given people a chance to explore themselves through our games. I like to think I have helped make some of your lives a little better. I hope I’m right. I don’t know what’s next for me, but I’m excited to find out. Just as I’m excited to find out what Dragon Age now becomes.
Thank you, Mark Darrah [source]
