Psycho Analysis: Freaky Fred
(WARNING! This analysis is... NAUGHTY!)
Hello dear reader, this is Fred.
You hear the words that are in his head.
To Courage the dog he is a threat,
because heās veryā¦ naughty.
In Courage the Cowardly Dog, you see,
Fred appeared and definitely
left a mark on you and me
by being very... naughty.
So let's take a look at this creepy man,
and hopefully you'll understand
why this guy has garnered tons of fans
despite him being... naughty.
Motivation/Goals:
Fredās a man of simple needs.
He wants to cut hair, indeed!
And his efforts would likely succeed
if he werenāt soā¦ naughty.
He has a compulsion, you know.
He sees hair and itās time to go!
And so he spends the\is episode of the show
being very naughty.
Performance: Paul Schoeffler is the man, you know!
He voiced Le Quack, Katz and Big Toe!
The Cajun Fox, Zalost, the Snowman, oh,
he played characters who wereā¦ naughty.
He was quite good at what he had to do,
even playing Dr. Vindaloo!
And he played our boy Fred, itās true,
with a performance that wasā¦ quite naughty.
Final Fate: After shaving Courageās hair,
the orderlies escort him out of there.
One could argue the endingās unfair.
Fred was onlyā¦ a little naughty.
Evilness: Is Fred evil? Who can say?
I certainly donāt see him that way.
Really, at the end of the day,
the worst you can call him isā¦ naughty.
He shaves off hair against peopleās will
because it gives him perverted thrills.
He doesnāt maim or harm or kill,
heās genuinely just naughty.
So I suppose a 1.5/10ās the score.
I canāt really justify much more.
Heās not cruel or deadly to the core,
heās a weird guy whoās naughty.
Best Quote: The opening lines of his sole appearance of course,
which he delivers with no remorse
as he outlines his actionās course
and explains that he isā¦ NAUGHTY:
āHello, new friend. My name is Fred.
The words you hear are in my head.
I say, I said my name is Fred,
and I've been... very naughty.ā
Final Thoughts & Score: Alright, time to drop the rhyming act so I can actually really talk about Fred. And boy, is he ever interesting to talk about! Courage is really a cavalcade of amazing one-shot antagonists, but Fred is easily one of the best and most memorable.
A huge part of that is probably down to his single appearance being narrated from his point of view. Heās the rare Courage villain that gives us explicit insight to his thought process and why he does what he does, and what he does isā¦ extremely strange and even suggestive. His compulsion is so strange and how he narrates it and refers to his actions really build him up to feel worse and creepier than he actually is. Heās not trying to hurt Courage in any way, heās just trying to exercise his bizarre fetish like a G-rated Yoshikage Kira. There's a lot of ways you could read into this compulsion, but t really does make him stand out as a character due to how unique it is and how it's implemented into the story.
I think what also helps is Schoeffler giving one of his best performances on the show. Like yes, Katz and Le Quack are great, and Vindaloo is a funny meme man, but Fred is just a truly iconic character with such a bombastic and sophisticated narration that I really think heās a contender for the best character the man played. On top of that we have a fantastic design, with his crazy hair and way-too-wide grin; literally every aspect of this guy is perfect.
But at the end of it all, you have to remember that Fred isnāt actually evil, no matter how much he seems to insist he is. At worst, heās an anti-villain, and even then itās in name only; the dude is just a freaky weirdo who looks like Betelgeuse and has a strange fetish he canāt help but act out on, and at worst his actions are annoying and inconvenient as opposed to horribly destructive or deadly. Like, oh no, your hairās gone! Itāll grow back, whatever. He may be Sweeney Todd for kids, but this barber aināt a demon; heās just a fucking weirdo. And I love him for it.
A 9.5/10 is the score he gets,
A memorable antagonist, one of the best.
His narration will never leave your head,
and isnāt that justā¦
NAUGHTY?

This is the 1999 version of the musical. There is nothing much to say so the Keep Reading is short.

"You call being chased by a lunatic snowman scary? You twit."
Name: The Computer
(Mental) Age: Adult (implied)
Pronouns: He/Him It/It's
Appearance(s): Courage The Cowardly Dog, The Fog of Courage, Straight Outta Nowhere: Scooby-Doo! Meets Courage the Cowardly Dog
Fandom Activity: dead at the moment. More on this later
Fanon accuracy: Man.. it's too complicated to say here
------In Canon------
Computer (yes that's its name) is the computer owned by the Bagge's located I'm their attic. Courage uses him to search for how to defeat the monster of the day, research specific items, with occasional off screen NORMAL computer activities
Computer appears in every season if the show: 9 times in season 1 (one being a cameo), 5 times in season two, 3 times in season 3, and four times in season four. He makes two quick appearances in The Fog Of Courage and Straight Outta Nowhere: Scooby-Doo! Meets Courage the Cowardly Dog movies.
The Computer will usually say a snippy one liner before and or after actually giving the information Courage wants.
Courage (searching for a cure): "What should I do?"
Computer: "if I were you, I'd get a big mallet and-" (smash them presumably)
Courage: "No no NO! A cure! A cure!"
Computer: "Oh....... That's easy, get a little hair from the mole that bit you."
(Courage gets ready to leave)
Computer: "just don't get bitten!~" (teasing tone meant to shake courage up)
The Computer has a masculine British voice DRIPPING with sarcasm, having a new voice actor in every new appearance: Simon Prebble, Paul Schoeffler, and Jeff Bergman respectfully
------Analysis------
- The computer is most likely based off of a Amiga 3000
You can see the resemblance yes? Cube monitor that sits on top the rectangle (I forgot the name sue me) with the clunky keyboard (ho mama) honestly perfect for a cartoon. Although he is still simplified, without a mouse and numpad (fair enough)
- In season 2 episode 14 he gains an off switch meant only as a gag. The Computer makes fun of Courage for.. being a cowardly dog and Courage flips the switch turning it off. It then disappears for the rest of the season until season 3, where it now has the words "OFF" under it.
- In season 3 episode seven, Muriel presses a random key on the Computers keyboard. Which then plays [SENSUAL TRUMPET NOISE] and presumably shows something in his screen, it isn't shown to the audience and Courage covers it up embarrassed. The Computer then says "Hey, push that button again!" in a..flirtatious??? Tone, To which Courage responds by ripping out the key and tossing it.. did Courage have a P@%# Hot key?? Was it giving The Computer physical satisfaction?? Gross.
- Anyway in this episode The computer has three keys near both sides of the space bar (unlike the images shown above before this episode, which has two keys on each side)
Courage rips out the one in the bottom right of the keyboard. Here's an image of the Amiga 3000 keyboard
As you can see it doesn't HAVE a third key at the bottom. The quality is s$!Ć· but the closest one is the right ALT key. Meaning the 'button' is either the ALT key in earlier episodes or (going off of other keyboards) the right CTRL key in this episode
- the Computer regularly says suggestive S#!Ć· in a suggestive tone. In Straight Outta Nowhere: Scooby-Doo! Meets Courage the Cowardly Dog: he outright flirts with Velmas iPad and asks if later she would want to do some "Downloading and updating"
Yeah I don't even know man
- The computer is a lot nicer in the Scooby-Doo movie. When I say a lot nicer I mean he only insults someone like once
-----This part------
Okay so when I first looked up the computer, I just did a quick search on Tumblr and saw only a few posts. So like a sane person I just assumed he wasn't very popular and moved on.
BUT NO! F#@%!Ć$ NO!!
For S#!+$ and giggles I did one lazy search and found All things End: A Computer x Courage slow burn
If you use your eyes you can see 3 things: one, this has 144 chapters, 2 this has 415,955 words, so those aren't SHORT chapters, and three-
THIS IS PART F@#$%!Ć· ONE!!!
This series has 3 parts, the final STILL BEING WRITTEN. it started in 2010-07-31. As of writing this that's 13.86 YEARS! This series would be getting ready for high-school!
The plot is about courage falling Ill with a rare fatal disease that will soon kill him. So he and the computer go on a quest to get the cure. The Computer gets a dog body, and the creator has drawn posters for each volume (although only volume one's showed up for me)
The first volume has 415,955 words
The second volume has 474,148 words
The final volume as of writing has 110,744 words
The total word count of the series 1,000,847 words. Giving it 217,770 more words than the kings James version of the Bible which- may I repeat the final is STILL GOING. I hope to one day finish reading this masterpiece. Godspeed Couragefan09 o7
------My Opinion------
10/10 this all started with a video on my YouTube recommended, which I use for most of the pictures. I came out of this having a new fanfic to read for the summer.. and probably fall too. With that being said his character actually made me laugh out loud and I'm SO F#@%!$# PISSED NO ONE TALKS ABOUT HIM! WATCH IT, WATCH IT NOW

Top 10 Portrayals of Smee
A while back, I did a list of my favorite portrayals of Captain Hook, the villain of J.M. Barrieās classic story āPeter Pan.ā I also, more recently, made a list of my favorite versions of the titular hero of the tale. Now, I want to shine some light on one of the more prominent side figures of the tale: Captain Hookās right-hand man (or, depending on interpretation, perhaps his left-hand man), the pirate simply known as Smee. Mr. Smee is, arguably, one of the first great āhenchmenā figures in English literature. Many great villains have accomplices and associates who aid them in their journeys, but the idea of a side character who works particularly close to the main villain, gives them someone to work through as an outlet of sorts, and often provides some comedic levity to scenes with their presence? As far as I can determine, this was a relatively new phenomenon in literature when āPeter Panā was created. Smee is the original bumbling goon: he is loyal to Hook (at least for the most part), and he can be just as nasty as the other pirates when he chooses to be, but heās generally considered something of a dimwitted softy, both in and out of universe. Heās the primary source of comic relief in the story, and lends a human, humorous edge to Hook and his pirates who, at least in the book, are a rather deplorable bunch. As a result, heās one of the most recognizable and frequently focused-upon characters in many adaptations, yet heās also one that seems somewhat unsung: only a select few versions of Smee have really āmade it bigā and become characters everyone recognizes or knows an actor for playing. I think itās time to change that, and give the many loyal followers of the nefarious Captain Hook their rightful dues. After all the times theyāve had to rescue him from the Crocodile, they deserve it! So, without further ado, here are My Top 10 Portrayals of Smee!
10. Christopher Gauthier, from Once Upon a Time.
9. Tony Sympson, from the 1976 TV Musical.
8. Jim Gaffigan, from Peter Pan & Wendy.
7. Ed Gilbert, from Peter Pan and the Pirates.
6. The Version from Peter and the Starcatchers. (No illustration available. Again, Iām referring to the books, not the stage play based on the first story.)
5. Michael Nostrand, from the Styne-Charlap Musical. (The most famous stage musical version of the story. Much like Paul Schoeffler as Hook and Cathy Rigby as Peter, Nostrand has been playing this part off and on for decades now.)
4. Richard Briers, from the 2003 Film.
3. Joe E. Marks, from the 1950 Musical AND the Styne-Charlap Musical. (Marks first played the role opposite Boris Karloff as Hook in a 1950 musical treatment. He reprised the role in the completely different Styne-Charlap musical and originated the part there, opposite Cyril Ritchard as Hook.)
2. The Disney Version. (Originally voiced by Bill Thompson.)
1. Bob Hoskins, from Hook AND SyFyās Neverland. (Especially the former.)

hihi! iād love to get some recommendations
my favourite genres outside of broadway are pop rock and rock
some musicals I love (not an exhaustive list!)
-falsettos
-spring awakening
-the last five years
-we are the tigers
-be more chill
-sweeney todd
-hadestown
-something rotten!
-moulin rouge!
-epic
i like to draw, read and write!
btw you seem like a really cool person! i have a feeling that your blog is going places :)
thank you so much, I have a great one for you!!
ROCK OF AGES
so this one is a jukebox musical with a bunch of 80's rock music - I performed in it back in middle school and I've loved it every since. I feel like it's got that same sort of funny transition into songs that you see with moulin rouge while still having a more serious story to it. I think you'll like it especially considering you also listen to rock! I liked it because of how they interpreted a lot of the music, it was really interesting when I first listened through it (the ad libs in this one are so fun <33)
the movie is pretty good, too! Tom cruise gets quite a bit of hate for this one, but I kind of feel like he fit the role pretty well, actually! Julianne Hough is super good in it too! I feel like she's really good at playing the innocent-turned-bad-girl role (like in Grease Live!!). it pretty goofy, though (but letās be for real thatās my favorite part about movie musicals)
here are some of my favs from the cast recording:
(one from the movie, too!!)
ps: thank you soso much for the kind words, it means a lot! let me know what you think of this one <33

An incredible capture of this show for Closing! Some wandering is seen but never takes away from the action. Some shakiness from readjusting at time but never a lot. Very little washout is seen, only in major wideshots.
