David Malcolm Bain, BJU Class of 1974.
David Malcolm Bain, Sr., 71, of Columbus, IN passed in San Clemente, California while with his wife, Pat, and family at 10:50 a.m. Saturday, November 23, 2024 . He fought a hard fight receiving cancer treatment. God took him Home to rest. David was born May 17, 1953, in Columbus, Indiana, the son of Harry James and Marilyn Jean Tempest Bain. On May 1, 1987, he married his beloved wife, Patsy Ann Hancher. David and Patsy met at Our Place Restaurant on Central Avenue, in Columbus, where they fell in love immediately. Patsy was the owner of the restaurant at the time and David would come in every day to see her. Patsy won his heart with her delicious free cooking, fresh iced tea and coffee. Many cherished memories were created together at Our Place restaurant, and even years later, the family continues to treasure them.
David Bain, Sr. was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. The best example of a family man you could ever imagine . Family is what his life revolved around. David was a man that would give you the shirt off his back. He always thought of others before himself and set this example daily. One example of his caring nature is where David would get up early during the winter months to shovel snow for the elderly or watering his customers flowers during the warm weather months while they were on vacation or away for business.
As a young boy, he grew up on the mission field in the countries of South Africa and Barbados with his parents and siblings. This started his love for Jesus that carried him all throughout his life. You could see this through his positive attitude and the way he treated people. He never knew a stranger and talked to everyone everywhere. He never complained, even in his final days while battling Mesothelioma. He had strong Christian convictions and just wanted to serve the Lord in all that he did. He graduated from the Institute of Christian Service with a degree in Practical Christian Training at Bob Jones University. He had a great work ethic and worked for over 50 years as a Master Carpenter and served Columbus with all of his grace and glory with a cheerful heart. One of David’s greatest qualities was that he was a perfectionist and specialized in remodeling historic homes. He was active in efforts to preserve historical buildings in Columbus, IN. Many of his customers became dear friends throughout his life. He was a member, deacon, and elder of the Hartsville Baptist Church and helped start the Hartsville Food Bank. He had a strong love and passion for people, food, coffee, and loved gatherings. In his last 6 months of life, he spent time with family visiting the mountains in Gatlinburg on a family trip and visiting his sisters and their families in South Carolina. He spent his final days in San Clemente, California with his wife, soaking in the beauty of the ocean and mountains. He was truly at peace there.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy; children, David (Celine) Bain of Columbus, Shannon (Robert) Dailey of Hope, Amanda (Matthew) Dreyer of Greencastle, Adam (Christina) Bain, also of Columbus; grandchildren, Nolan Dailey, Gavin Bain, Elijah Dreyer, Mwajuma Bain, Addison Dailey, Emma Bain, Daegan Baxter, Malachi Dreyer, Ellie Bain, Samuel Dreyer, Maevyn Bain; siblings, Pam (Mike) Ardoin, Debby (Louis) McCray, Cindy O’Cain, both of South Carolina, several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Gregory Bain and parents, Harry James and Marilyn Jean Tempest Bain.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Pastor Tim Tallent officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
Burial will take place at Hope Moravian Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made any of the following: Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation, Bob Jones University or Hartsville Baptist Church (David’s home church).

I HAD A THOUGHT!!!
Camera Shy Reader / Nubbins… Some way or another you start dating & he Looooves to take pictures of you. You don’t get it.
“Film is expensive,” You tell him. “Stop wasting it on something you see everyday—“ It’s not like you leave the house that often anyway. He’s never apart from you for long, why does he need little pictures when he has the real thing right there?
But he tells you noo, you’re just so perfect and he likes to have pictures of you to keep in his bag, or his pocket, and in his room </3 They’re mostly mundane candid pictures when your guard is down. Eating food, outside when you’re on a walk. (He definitely has a collection of photos of you sleeping but he’s a little more secretive about those bc he thinks you’ll get upset with him)
It’s a little frustrating at first. You don’t think of yourself as photogenic and the photos come out … poorly. Motion blur, strange flares, but he likes them.
Eventually you tell him that you want to do an actual photo shoot, one where you can get something you’d be proud of him waving around and showing people. He’s fucking ECSTATIC and eagerly lets you decide where and when. Helps pose you when you’re awkward and unsure, but the experience turns out to be really fun!
He asks to do it more often & it helps you become more confident in front of the camera. Plus bonding with ur bf is a plus!
In this scenario I feel like it would be fun to write the photoshoots becoming a slippery slope to some more. Promiscuous scenarios :3 I don’t have the time to make it a full fic with everything else I’m writing but AHHHHH he’d fucking love to keep nude pictures of you
Hopefully those stay in Nubbins’ room, otherwise wheewww! You and him would get an ear full from Drayton. You crazy kids, running’ around taking obscene photos like degenerates. Keep it in the bedroom and OFFA THE CAMERA! I didn’t wake up this mornin’ wantin to see my little brother’s pecker in your filthy mouth. Cut it out!! >:(

humble fumble, ballot boxed
Not sure what "try being popular" even means. I don't think Reggie ever wins these things.
The execution on "Ballot Boxed", where after seeing how everyone is swayed by Jughead's slogan posters for Archie's candidacy Reggie buys him off and you see the rest here, leaves something to be desired. It needs just a mite better slogans than "Archie By Cracky" for me to suspend disbelief and accept. On the soundness of the premise, I am reminded that in voting for asb positions, having nothing else to go by and no clear idea of what the heck I was voting for besides a good line for the candidates' college applications, I voted for whoever have me the most number of campaign stickers.

1974 ad for Dinky Toys.
Model 609 - 105mm Howitzer. This was the US M101A1 105mm Howitzer. Introduced in World War ll and still in use at the time of this ad.
Model 675 - Motor Patrol Boat. The Royal Navy Brave Class motor torpedo boat. The RN only had two (HMS Brave Borderer and HMS Brave Swordsman) and both had retired by 1970. A small number of others of this class were built for the export market.
Model 1030 - Land Rover Breakdown Crane. As it states in the ad this particular vehicle was in kit form. The other two items shown were ordinary diecast models but this Land Rover was one of a new series of models Dinky had introduced in the early 70's that required some construction and painting first.

"The Skylab 4 Command Module splashes down in the Pacific Ocean southwest of San Diego, California at 10:17 am. The Command Module bobs in an apex-down configuration (stable two) in the calm water of the Pacific Ocean 176 miles southwest of San Diego, California, following a successful splashdown and 84-day mission in Earth orbit."
"A smiling William R. Pogue pauses in hatchway of Skylab 4 command module during recovery activities today aboard the USS New Orleans at the completion of man's longest space journey to date. Pogue splashed down with astronauts Gerald P. Carr and Dr. Edward G. Gibson, 84 days after the trio was launched by a Saturn IB rocket from Kennedy Space Center. Circling the globe 1, 214 times aboard the sophisticated Skylab space station during the nearly three-month flight, the astronauts demonstrated man's ability to live and work in space for extended periods."

I hate that so many respectability politics morons made it so that gay people who want to buy high quality legal pads and nice loafers are seen as being in opposition to gay people with pink liberty spikes wearing harnesses. There is no one I would rather see at staples than a member of my cities local leather club
#I know I never shut up about the queer history class I TAed but#when I was doing that we went to the local university’s special collections library and saw their collection on queer history in our city#and let me just say that leather group had INSANE drama back in the 70s and they were airing it all out in the gay newsletters 🫢🫢#the Twitter callout post of 1974 fr fr

Because you know a lot about these sorts of things: is D&D the first place where devils and demons are distinct groups of mutually antagonistic evil entities as opposed to being synonyms for one another, or did they steal that from some obscure fantasy pulp novel from the 1960s, as so much other stuff now seen as iconic to D&D is?
Much like making picky distinctions between wizards, sorcerers and warlocks, the general idea of making "devils" and "demons" distinct classes of supernatural beasties pre-dates Dungeons & Dragons in popular fiction, but the specific definitions that D&D uses are basically only applicable to D&D; every work of sword and sorcery fiction I'm aware of that distinguishes between the two terms does so differently.
For example, in Robert Aspirin's "Myth Adventures" series, "Devils" are a specific race of extradimensional aliens who coincidentally resemble pop-Christianity's notion of the Devil (i.e., red skin, goat legs, etc.), while a "demon" is simply any sapient being who's been magically summoned from another dimension. Hence, Devils are sometimes demons (at least when they're away from home), but – unless there's a convention or something going on – the majority of demons in any given dimension are not Devils.
To the point, I can't think of any particular work of pre-1974 (i.e., pre-D&D) sword and sorcery fiction whose demons-versus-devils split hinges on Law and Chaos in the same way that D&D's does; I suspect that the game's authors simply took the pre-existing notion of demons and devils being different things and pasted the terms onto a straight lift of Michael Moorcock's "Eternal Champions" cosmology (which doesn't use either term) – though if anyone is aware of a prior case of fantasy fiction specifically associating "devil" with cosmic Order and "demon" with cosmic Chaos, I'd love to be corrected!
(As always, if anyone would like to offer a counterexample, please check the publication date first; works published after 1974 post-date Dungeons & Dragons, so they're no help here.)

“I'm very concerned about the depiction of women on the screen. It's related to their being either high- or low-class concubines, and the only question is when or where they will go to bed, and with whom or how many. There's nothing to do with the dreams of women, or of woman as the dream, nothing to do with the quirky part of her, the wonder of her.” — John Cassavetes.

Biology Lessons
Curious in the first one Betty would view Archie's transactional adjustment as romantic flirting. It is certainly a weird lesson for Science class, and a cursory search online shows what is obvious -- this is in no way the case. The contradictory messages of our educational system move forth -- you are so very special and reach for the stars versus you are insignificant and need to remain firmly grounded.
