Hmm I think it could possibly be cute with Matsuda being a big Misa fan and Misa finding a sweet person to love. Otherwise, I don't really feel the chemistry. Seeing it as a side ship wouldn't deter me from the fic but I wouldn't check out a story with it as the main relationship.

i have not researched anything so i don't know if this is even a thing but i think matsumisa would be a deliciously Bad ship.

like. i can't think of a healthy explanation for it. we all know matsuda is adorable in how he treats her. just the sweetest boy ever towards her. and she does not reciprocate in the slightest.

but also like. post-yotsuba, struggling for attention from light, feeling neglected and abandoned by everyone? she'd play that sweet idiot boy like a fucking fiddle. like a harmonica. like a kazoo.

its 50/50 trying to get light to pay attention again and appreciating the attention from matsuda. she probably lowkey feels horrible about it but also her life has been such a shitshow lately that it doesnt even cross her mind to break it off.

and matsuda would just be suffering the entire time. torn between his love for misa and his love for light. because, i believe, he does love both of them. but also he gives vibes of "can't tell when he's feeling romantic love or platonic love and it kinda isn't good for him".

every time light mentions his declining relationship with misa, some part of matsuda dies inside. he just feels like the worst person in the world.

and when he finds out how light never really loved her? oh god.

As friends, I like them, as ship I don’t. Maybe I wouldn’t be against it if Matsuda hadn’t been such a dick in the successor arc and backstabbed Misa. He’s the only Task Force member who seems to like Misa in the first arc. Matsuda should have some concerns about Light cheating on Misa with Kiyomi. But no, he was so excited about it that even his coworkers became uncomfortable. That pissed me off on a personal level and made me dislike the ship.

this is long so i put it under a cut lmao

1: sexuality headcanon: pan/ace or bisexual, really

2: otp: matsuide, matsumogi, and guilelessmassacre, and the occasional matsumisa (iF SHE’S IN DIFFERENT CIRCUMSTANCES FROM CANON JFC)

3: brotp: matsuda and soichiro, matsuda and misa, matsuda and aizawa, matsuda and naomi in the right circumstances

4: notp: matsuda and soichiro, matsuda and aizawa, matsuda and light, matsuda and L

5: first headcanon that pops into my head: he loves birds

6: one way in which I relate to this character: he’s a kinda silly character and i fuck around a lot. i’m also sometimes kinda slow on the uptake (thanks, processing disorder) so yeah

@nebulamist (Long answer so I couldn't reply directly so POST DUMP TIME)

Matsuda doesn't send the tapes! He's not quiiite as bold as Misa, plus he's also not quite as impatient, so the thought doesn't really occur to him.

Instead, since he's closer to Gelus than Misa was to Rem, and L's already narrowed down the region for him, he sends Gelus off house to house to find the other Shinigami. From there Matsuda moves in to meet Light :D ...And subsequently subtly threaten him into a relationship. Ah, Love!

As for if he gets confined,,,,ehh yes and no.

They don't have reason to suspect a second Kira until later; specifically when L discovers Matsuda and Light are dating. Or, the fact that they're not dating in secret. L gets suspicious of Light suddenly not giving a shit about other people's opinions enough to come out of the closet, much less with an older, famous boyfriend that he now spends a LOT of time with at said boyfriend's very unmonitored house. Then he takes another look at the killing patterns and susses out the scent of another Kira. He narrows down the date of when Matsuda started killing, along with the fact that a lot more criminals with misspelled names have been dying, and then reveals his suspicions to the Task Force under the guise that Matsuda is just another Kira suspect.

They bring Matsuda in and put him in a cell, but it's nothing so bad as Misa's, and they don't torture him because L has far less evidence to lean on with Matsuda and he can't justify it. BUT that also means that Matsuda doesn't give up his Death Note—and, as a consequence, neither does Light. Though he does still (eventually) also submit himself to confinement to free Matsuda at Gelus's uuhh behest.
