Marian Poppins didn't always live in Godscobh. Her fondest memories are from her childhood in London, where she made fast friends and charmed everyone she met. At 21, her studies brought her to America. Mary had always been intelligent, and she was eager to attend Harvard when she'd received the acceptance letter. Even more eager still to become a proper teacher in America. She'd always loved children, and a chance to move somewhere new was thrilling.

Always considerate, she'd taken a job in a town desperate for teachers: Godscobh. It was far from home, but the pay was good, and she loved the quaint seaside town. Mary purchased a small home near the coast, overlooked by the lighthouse. It was a dream come true.

This dream dimmed slightly when she realized why Godscobh had been so desperate for teachers. The school was barely filled, each class smaller than the last. It only took a few years for her to become Principal, her drive and passion for the job reaching beyond her peers. Despite the time and effort she sunk into the curriculum, it never seemed to change the rate at which teenagers dropped out or merely gave up.

During the summer, she babysat for the locals. Sometimes, during the school year, she'd take on extra. Seeing the little infants look up at her with the future in their eyes gave her hope for a better future. No matter what, she'd do what she could to raise a new generation better than the last.

Or that's what she told herself year after year.

Things in this town never seemed to get better. Mary tried to keep her head up, smile and laugh, and enjoy her life as she taught and mentored. It was all she could do. Despite constant pleads to the mayor for better funding, better resources: her attempts went unheard. This drove a wedge between the mayor and the school district, as small as it might be.

Mary continued, bringing baked goods and a smile to the manor door, even after being brushed off again and again. Never did it dull her spirit. She swore she'd get him to understand. One day.

Notable character information: Mary's gentle but firm teaching style has taught many valuable lessons. Some might say they have a magic touch for working with children!

Just a Moment

The cold air dusted Mary's nose with red. The leaves had long turned from green to red to brown as the temperature dropped. Winter in Godscobh was always chilly, though the sun above them kept it just warm enough to be tolerable with jeans and a proper coat. She'd bundled up the babe she was caring for too, making sure he was comfortable in the cold.

Marian didn't have much time for herself these days. With one of the youngest of her charges at her side, the part-time principal, part-time nanny, part-time teacher had walked down the road to a local coffee shop. The toddler smiled and giggled as it waddled along beside her, clinging to her hand. The mother of the child was a barista at the shop who preferred to walk home with her child. Mary didn't mind. The little one was as well behaved as could be expected of a 3 year old, eager to follow the rules and get praised as a result.

The convenient drop-off point allowed Mary to take a moment to order a latte, leaving the child with his mother to sit at a table outside. The weather was crisp, but her coat was warm. She couldn't ask for a better day to relax in the sun like a cat.

Of course, doing such was difficult when half the children knew her.

"Miss Poppins!" Another kid hurried over, paper clutched in their hand. "Look what I drew!" She plastered it to the table, pointing at the different aspects of the artwork as she explained it. There was a family, something that could be a castle, and a blocky unicorn with a rainbow horn. It was endearing, how much effort the girl had put into her work.

"Very good," Mary encouraged with a gentle smile as the girl continued on. Her dark eyes caught on another watching, giving them a plesant look that communicated her desire for a moment to herself. Her prayers were answered when the girl's mother called her away.

"They really are the sweetest," Marian hummed as they left. "Though, I do wish I wasn't quite so popular with the children sometimes. My energy isn't as everlasting as it once was."

Pushing back her hair, she gave the other person a refreshed smile. "Anyway, what can I do for you?"

John looked to her as he was lost for words even when she welcomed herself in. “I- what-“ he said and cleared his throat. “Mhm yes I’m getting Isabelle ready for school then I will change-“ he stuttered in shock. “I’m sorry but… nanny? I didn’t ask for a nanny?” He questioned more and scratched his chin. John then turned when hearing Isabelle’s little feet patter down the stairs, the girl shyly looking at Mary once reaching her father. She was only four and truly a sweetheart inside and out. “Hello…” she whispered shyly as she had her uniform on but held the brush in her hand since her hair was still a mess.

The poor man needed help yet he could afford to pay for that help, balancing work and being a single father was difficult. “I’m sorry but- I can’t afford a nanny and I also don’t have your references to know that you’re safe to be around her” he said protectively.

The wind had carried her where she was needed the most: the Jenkins family. The ways of the nanny’s working were mysterious but she always seemed to know exactly what needed to be done. She rang the doorbell and waited; back straightened, bag on one arm as she held her umbrella with both hands. Oh, she really didn’t like to be kept waiting..

And then the door opened, Mary raised a brow at the sight in front of her.    “You could start by inviting me in.”    Quite a demand considering John most likely had no idea why she was there in the first place.    “I am your new nanny, of course.”    Swiftly, she stepped past him, entering the house and taking a quick look around.    “Quite a bit late to still be in your pyjamas, isn’t it?”

Description: A thin woman with a softness around the edges from years behind a desk with brown hair and green eyes ringed with sable. Despite the dreary weather, she never loses the warmth of her skin nor the sparkle of her eye.

Biography:

Marian was practically a perfect child.

As a child, she was always kind and gentle. With children her age and younger she seemed to click instantaneously. Adults praised the ease in which she made friends and obeyed her parents. By all accounts, she seemed the ideal child. Of course, no child is perfect. What mistakes she made were swept aside when she showed such genuine apology for her misadventures. Even when the misstep would earn a punishment, she managed to evade it.

Always a star in school, it was to no one's surprise that she received acceptance letters from Brown, Oxford and Harvard. Eager to see more of the world, Mary accepted the place at Harvard and quickly became top of her class as a future educator. This degree earned her offers from more than one failing district, hungry for promising young teachers to fill their empty positions. One stood out: a well-written offer from a highschool in Godscobh, a small beachside town. A visit there captured her heart, and she purchased a small home with assistance from her family back in London.

This picture perfect life wavered some when the school year started. The small classes she taught were full of students who cared little for study. Many dropped out, though her class had a noticeably smaller rate than the other teachers. This success, however small, gained her respect until she found herself in charge of the school itself. Mary was passionate about the students and their lives, filling the role of nurse, councilor and leader at all moments. Part of her loved the business, part of her loathed the rush. She wanted to have time to guide her pupils.

Perhaps when they had more teachers.

Though what they really needed was more funding. Mary made this her hill to die on. She spent weekends championing her cause on Mayor Zika's doorstep, demanding he see the needs of the next generation. Maybe an annoyance, certainly persistent in her determination to succeed. Invitations to every luncheon, every charity event or fundraising dinner arrived neatly in the Zika mailbox no matter to what extent he went to avoid her.

Mary had gone so far as to walk the docks, speaking with Harbormaster Barbossa's teenager employees. Those who had no time for school were taught in their free time, with the principal going out of her way to ensure they learn. When she wasn't teaching or pestering the Mayor, she picked up babysitting shifts for the parents in town who needed a break. She didn't mind the extra work. Ir was good enough to see the thankful looks on their faces.

Now in her 40s, officially over the hill as of May 1st last year; Mary has lost none of her energy. Her kindness keeps her young, she jokes. This town needs her more than ever, and she doesnt intend to give up any time soon.

John was over the moon that Mary had become his daughter’s nanny. It had only been a day and Isabelle looked so much happier having a father and a lady in her life. He sat with a smile on his face at the dinner table, only arriving home from work recently. “This looks stunning, Mary- thank you” he said about the food and gave her a warm smile. “Please come sit with us, Isabelle looks so content, I want to know what you did today with her” he said softly, reaching out to brush his thumb down the three year olds cheek. “Dancing! Me and Mary danced!” She squealed which made John smile brightly. “Oh I want to see those moves” he teased, glancing to the woman.

Fun facts about my TWST prefect, Rosalie

No real story here. I just wanted to share some facts about the girl you'll see in some stories I write. Also, I am a HUGE OC yapper so if you're ever curious, feel free to ask in the ask box! :D

1.) She's had her pink hair since she was 15 but she often used box dye much to Vil's horror. She also cuts her pixie cut herself too but originally (and much to Vil and Crewel's horror) she used kitchen scissors to get it and later school scissors. Thankfully Vil and Crewel HEAVILY drilled in the importance of proper hair care and they gave her a razor and barber sheers.

2.) Her original design looked a lot different and she was originally supposed to have more of a timid personality. I ended up going with a more boyish design so she wouldn't get detected considering that NRC is an all-boys school (No shame to anyone who has a more girly design for their OCs or Prefects. It's just a personal preference of mine and I just get super stubborn about canon details and what would work for her)

This was her prototype design (Like a lot of characters, I used a Picrew for the design). Some things remained the same like her pink hair, olive eyes, her round glasses, and her beauty mark near the corner of her eye but she is definitely a far cry from her original design. No lie, she looked really cute with it but she's definitely the OC that went through A LOT of changes both in looks and in personality. I do think Canon!Ro would definitely want to befriend her but Proto!Ro would be terrified of her.

3.) Both in English and in Japanese, her voice HC has always been Doll from Black Butler. Matter of fact, I always imagined Rosalie with a very heavy Cockney accent that would slip out whenever she would get angry, or whenever she's around her brothers, sister, or her old caretaker. Whenever she's talking with friends or speaking a little quicker than normal, you can hear her drop her common RP accent she had to learn and you can hear the little traces of her actual accent slip through.

4.) She's a composite character so there isn't really a certain Disney character that she was based on. I will say though, Haruhi Fujioka, OG Mickey Mouse (the shorts where he's a chaos gremlin), Mary Poppins, and Thomas O'Malley were big inspirations for her personality.

5.) Minus Grim, Ace was actually the first person to figure out her gender followed by Deuce and Malleus. Ace and Deuce were completely by accident (during the Heartslabyul sleepover in book 1, Ace walked in on her changing and Deuce followed suit after hearing them screaming) while with Malleus, she was the one who slipped out her real voice and he heard her in Ramshackle's garden in Book 2 (curse the fact that fae have better hearing!).

6). Rosalie has been dancing ballet since she was a little kid but quit taking classes when she was 15 do to schooling reasons. The style she does is a bit more on par with Russian style due to her teacher being from there. She still has a bunch of spare pairs of pointe shoes and she always makes sure to practice as well as do her stretches to keep her body well-conditioned.

7.) Originally, Rosalie never had much of an interest in photography but playing around with the ghost camera fueled her interest in it. Of course, Rook was always happy to give her tips to help with getting the right angle and waiting for the proper moment. Now she acts as the school newspaper's photographer. Her favorite subjects to photograph are her dorm, abandoned ruins whenever Malleus takes her on night walks, and Grim when he's in a food coma.

8.) Her brothers are based off of Scat Cat and his band from The Aristocats. The five of them are also in a jazz band as well and Ro herself learned to play the trumpet from the ringleader of the gang, Sergei (unfortunately, I don't have artwork of any of them! 😭). Their names are as follows, Sergei, Jamie, Alfie, Jialun, and Misha.

9.) Aside from the first years and Diasomnia, Rosalie also has a pretty strong bond with Vil, Rook, and Azul. Vil often gave her tips to care for her hair, skin, and health especially since he found out that she's a ballet dancer. Rook bonded with her through trying to hone her skills in photography. As for Azul (despite the very odd friendship they have and the fact that he repoed her dorm in book 3) he would sometimes see Rosalie studying in the lounge while she's having tea but due to merfolk's love of music, they would recommend each other music since they're both fans of jazz and they both listen to a wide variety of music.

10.) Some of Rosalie's favorite dishes (especially her favorite, bulalo) are from The Philippines. While she herself isn't Filipino, the woman who looked after her since she was a child is half-Filipino and before the O'Malleys adopted her, she gave her a notebook containing all of her recipes so she could make them herself.

11.) Her original surname before being adopted by her first family was "Bess" (her bio mother's surname). She unfortunately went through five more last names before the O'Malleys became her forever home.

12.) Speaking of her mother, her bio mother was twisted from Edgar Balthazar. Only, thing is that I did make her a lot more arrogant and greedy compared to him especially when her ex-boyfriend (twisted from Madame Adelaide) gave his daughter all of his inheritance when it comes time for him to pass away.

13.) I actually NEVER intended for her and Malleus to be a couple and I originally just had them be close friends. Still, whether it was through events or the canon story, I really loved the dynamic Malleus and the MC had. What's also funny is that her sister met the same fate when I began shipping her with a certain con-man fox. Although alternate partners I thought of for Ro were Sebek and Ace.

14.) If you were to ask her about her gender identity, she has a very "eh" opinion of gender as a whole and feels like anyone should present themselves in a way that feels comfortable, but she's always viewed herself as a cisgender girl. Although, due to her rather boyish looks, she does sometimes get mistaken for a guy but she just shrugs it off.

15.) As for her attraction, she's on the AroAce spectrum. More on the grey sides for both but unsure of the proper microlabel. Malleus was the first (and in the future only) person she's ever felt any romantic affection towards.

16.) Out of all of the teachers, she trusts Professor Trein the most while Crowley, the least (especially after the events of Book 4 and all the times he made her do his dirty work while trying to survive in the musty, dusty, dilapidated dorm that HE placed her in!)

17. Although if there is one thing she's glad the headmage did for her even if it was to save his ass from a scandal of accidentally summoning a girl into an all-boys school, it was to prepare ALL the stops so make sure she's never found out by the entire school as well as give her special "care packages" every month. Thank goodness Trein's a single father and knows about what it's like dealing with teenage girls...

18. Rosalie is a MASSIVE fan of thrifting and antiquing. Back when she was still in Second Star (the first foster home she stayed in), clothes from charity shops were all that she could afford but she likes mixing and matching different styles and patterns to make something her own. I would say the decades she dresses the most often are the 60s (mostly taking a bit of inspiration from the Teddy Boy subculture), 70s, 80s, and early to mid 90s as well as copying some of the makeup styles from those eras. Matter of fact, one the thing she wants to do with Vil is take him thrift shopping in the rich neighborhoods since you can get some amazing authentic pieces there.

19. Ro can actually see somewhat okay without her glasses but it's not as good compared to when she has them on. I'd say her vision is around 20/40

20. Grim is definitely the person she cares about the most (as much as she lovingly refers to him as a stinky cat and playfully pokes fun at him) but as much as Grim often gets her into trouble, she really developed a huge soft spot for him and same could be said with him. It was to the point where even the thought of being without him or him being taken away again is enough to keep her awake at night.
