The benefits are plentiful to both your mind and body, even if you’ve been dead and back again countless times before. Comics y TV: Kevin Keller

Lo que más llamó la atención de los espectadores de la serie “Riverdale” (que se emite desde 2017 en la señal CW), algunos de ellos fans de los comics que le dieron origen (”Archie”, aún publicándose desde 1942, aunque el personaje principal de la saga apareció el año anterior), no fue la inclusión de un personaje gay sino el tono oscuro que la serie recibió, y no es para menos: la primera temporada se enfoca en resolver el misterio de la muerte de Jason Blossom, el hijo de una de las familias más importantes (y quizás con peor imagen) de Riverdale. Luego la historia viraría en otro eventos aún más oscuros como asesinos seriales, sociedades secretas, sectas con objetivos imperdonables, merodeadores peligrosos... Cosillas por ese estilo.

En los comics, el personaje, creado por Dan Parent, aparece en “Veronica” #202 (2010) como el objeto del deseo de la protagonista, pero acaba convirtiéndose en amigo cuando le confirma que es gay. También aparece en “Afterlife With Archie” (con la historia ubicada en un mundo de apocalipsis zombie), en una versión como adulto en “Life with Archie: The Married Life”, adonde se muestra que se ha casado con Clay Walker y, finalmente, en 2012, Kevin adquiriría sus propios especiales que retoman su años adolescentes.

El Kevin Keller de la serie, interpretado por Casey Colt ya ha salido del armario y ha recibido la completa aceptación de su padre, el sheriff Keller (Martin Cummins). Claro que no es el único personaje LGBTQ de la serie: justo es también mencionar a la pareja de Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch) y Toni Topaz (Vanessa Morgan): la chica rica y la chica pandillera. Siempre está junto a Betty Cooper, a quien acompaña en la redacción para el diario de la escuela, “Blue and Gold”. Su vida afectiva incluye al bisexual  Moose Mason (Cody Kearsley), al miembro de las serpientes Joaquin DeSantos (Rob Raco), una relación tórrida que culminó con  (¡SPOILER ALERT!) el trágico final de DeSantos, y Fangs Fogarty (Drew Ray Tanner), otro miembro del grupo pandillero al que pertenecía su anterior novio.

Más allá de sus apetencias afectivas, Kevin es un muchacho apuesto, carismático, alegre y de gran fidelidad a sus amigos. Además, ha sabido desempeñarse varias actividades, a saber: luchador, profesor de Teatro, Debate, Biología, Gym y Educación Sexual, bombero voluntario, director artístico y minero. Gran personaje.

I’m glad more people have joined the “Sheriff Daddy Tom Keller” train. Just thought I’d share a picture from Martin’s instagram from awhile ago.
