Luther: The Fallen Sun
Release Date: February 24, 2023 | Theaters – March 10, 2023 | Netflix
SYNOPSIS:
A serial killer terrorizes London while disgraced detective John Luther sits behind bars. Haunted by his failure to capture the cyber psychopath who now taunts him, Luther decides to break out of prison to finish the job by any means necessary.
REVIEW:
We all remember the fiasco when Top Gear on the BBC was waining and it moved to Prime Video with 10 times the budget. This feels like that. Luther the BBC drama has now got Netflix money behind it and well, the BBC seems lost and just don’t know what to do with it.
Elba brings his usual drained but diligent energy to Luther and Dermot Crowley is back as his affable old boss DSU Martin Schenk, who keeps trying to facilitate his involvement in the investigation. But Serkis is too theatrically villainous, and the absence of strange psychopath Alice (Ruth Wilson), Luther’s nemesis and sometime lover (who appeared to die at the end of the last season), is keenly felt.
Ultimately though, it’s the preposterous plot that lets this film down. Would people really rather die than reveal their secrets? “The truth is it [the secret] wasn’t even that bad,” admits one victim before offing himself and thoroughly undermining the whole film in the process.
CAST: Idris Elba, Cynthia Erivo, Andy Serkis, Dermot Crowley, Jess Liaudin, Lauryn Ajufo, Natasha Patel, Henry Hereford

Luther - Mawkish Public Disclosure
What is it, with the world? Why make us wallow in their "issues"? This incessant parade of mawkish public disclosure. What happened to dignity? What happened to fortitude, for God's sake?
