Money Shot: The Pornhub Story
Release Date: March 15, 2023 | Netflix
SYNOPSIS:
The documentary explores how the pornography streaming site has changed lives — for better, and for worse.
REVIEW:
Pornhub found massive success by revolutionizing the adult entertainment industry and changing the way pornography is distributed and produced. But a never-ending machine streaming pornographic content led to increased scrutiny and soon the site was under investigation following accusations of sex trafficking, sex abuse, and revenge porn. With little to no action to remedy this by the company, a congressional act made companies liable for their content and this not only called for the site to be closed down but changed the lives of the companies’ most prominent sex workers and employees.
CAST: Pornhub corporate employees and journalists, Wolf Hudson, Siri Dahl, Natassia Dreams, Cherie DeVille, Asa Akira

QUEENMAKER
Release Date: April 14, 2023 | Netflix
SYNOPSIS:
After a tragic accident, a powerful fixer uses her skills to transform a civil rights lawyer into the next mayor and take down her former employer.
REVIEW:
I don't mind politics, but they can be kind of exhausting if that's the vast majority of the show. Still, that can be outweighed by fantastic performances and interesting characters, so if the show does everything else right, I'll stomach the politics to see it shine. I'll need someone to cheer for though. If every character turns out to be morally gray, that might knock it down a few rungs for me. I can take that in a movie, but it's harder for me to sit through 12+ hours of story if I don't have anyone to cheer for.
The cast, albeit out of their normal comfort zone genre, might make this worth a watch.
CAST: Kim Hee-ae, Moon So-ri, Ryu Soo-young, Seo Yi-sook, Ok Ja-yeon, Yoon Ji-hye, Kim Sae-byuk, Lee Kyung-yung, Jin Kyung, Kim Tae-hun

THE LAST THING HE TOLD ME
Release Date: April 14, 2023 | Theaters
SYNOPSIS:
Before Owen Michaels disappears, he manages to smuggle a note to his new wife, Hannah: protect her. Hannah knows exactly who Owen needs her to protect - his teenage daughter, Bailey, who lost her mother tragically as a child. And who wants absolutely nothing to do with her new stepmother.
As her desperate calls to Owen go unanswered, his boss is arrested for fraud and the police start questioning her, Hannah realizes that her husband isn't who he said he was. And that Bailey might hold the key to discovering Owen's true identity, and why he disappeared. Together they set out to discover the truth. But as they start putting together the pieces of Owen's past, they soon realize that their lives will never be the same again…
REVIEW:
I've yet to see the series, but I have read Laura Dave's bestselling book on which it's based and it's not often I say this, I hope the series is better. On paper, it should be good. Husband mysteriously disappears leaving a note for his wife to protect his step daughter (who she doesn't get on with). His life wasn't what it seemed. I found the book (with such an exciting premise) lacking in any urgency or suspense and spoilt by Hannah, who seemingly knew automatically at every hurdle what to do. To top it all, the unanswered questions weren't very exciting and the book felt flat. Here's hoping that yet another of Reese Witherspoon's book club selections fairs better on screen than off.
CAST: Jennifer Garner, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Angourie Rice, Aisha Tyler

SYNOPSIS:
A modern action adventure road story where a 17-year-old girl named Suzume helps a mysterious young man close doors from the outer side that are releasing disasters all over in Japan
REVIEW:
As a fan of Shinkai's movies, I was not surprised by the incredible visuals and accompanying score. But, as with many of his films, it's the plot that lets it down. The story line is weak and uses Shinkai's talent to hold it up.
It's not the standard of 'Your Name', but I'd rate it above 'Weathering With You'. You won't be disappointed watching this, but you won't be overwhelmed either.
CAST: Nanoka Hara, Hokuto Matsumura, Eri Fukatsu, Shota Sometani, Sairi Ito, Kotone Hanase, Kana Hanazawa, Matsumoto Hakuō II

Hunger
Release Date: April 8, 2023 | Netflix
SYNOPSIS:
A talented young street-food cook pushes herself to the limit after accepting an invitation to train under an infamous and ruthless chef.
REVIEW:
Whilst the inevitable comparisons to 'The Menu' will be made, this is more of a dramatic thriller from the perspective of a sous chef. It shows the constant verbal and physical abuse suffered in the kitchen to provide a fine dining experience for a wealthy elite. Highlighting a class divide and destroying a pristine facade around the fine dining experience, 'Hunger' looks to strike a chord with those in the industry and indeed anyone who feels the top 1% are out of touch with the rest of the world.
CAST: Chutimon Chuengcharoensukying, Nopachai Jayanama, Gunn Svasti, Bhumibhat Thavornsiri, Varit Leesavan, Prachan Vong-uthaiphan, Ratchawat Vichianrat, Pattarawit Junthai, Rangsit Budngam, Sunya Thadathanawong, Arttasit Pattanasatienkul

JUBILEE
Release Date: April 7, 2023 | Amazon Prime
SYNOPSIS:
Set against the backdrop of the golden age of Indian cinema, Jubilee is a thrilling yet poetic tale woven around an ensemble of characters and the gambles they're willing to take, in pursuit of their dreams, passion, ambition and love.
REVIEW:
This an impressive period drama and grand in scale, which can be seen in its production design and costumes. There seem to be some original songs created for the series as well. While the series is set in that celebrated era of cinema, at its core, Jubilee is a very human story, with narrative themes that will resonate with everyone.
CAST: Prosenjit Chatterjee, Aparshakti Khurana, Wamiqa Gabbi, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sidhant Gupta, Ram Kapoor, Shweta Basu Prasad, Sukhmanee Lamba, Nandish Singh Sandhu

BOOM! BOOM! THE WORLD VS. BORIS BECKER
Release Date: April 7, 2023 | Apple TV+
SYNOPSIS:
An inside look at the controversial life and career of tennis great Boris Becker—featuring interviews with John McEnroe, Novak Djokovic, Björn Borg, and other icons.
REVIEW:
This Apple TV docuseries shows us the rise and fall of tennis legend Boris Becker. Well, it does sort of. It shows us the fall first, then shows us the rise at the beginning and then some bits of the middle with the interesting stuff we all know about (the broom closet etc) missing completely.
It's sprinkled with archive footage and multiple interviews, but because of the poor production will only appeal to die hard fans. Both Sky and Netflix would have done this justice. Do better Apple.

It's then we discover the family has a history with the creature and that's a determined, dangerous scientist (Christian Slater) is after it to try and harness its powers and it's up to Alex to save the day with his new found family members.

Release Date: April 7, 2023 | Theater
SYNOPSIS:
During the investigation of a man's murder, the police find two probable suspects, who look alike but do not know each other. However, the case gets complicated when new facts unravel.
REVIEW:
Based on the 2019 film 'Thadam', Gumraah is the story of a man accused of a crime he didn't commit, despite all the evidence pointing concusively at him. It's found during the investigation, that he has an identical twin. No one can prove which twin committed the crime, so ultimately they both go free.
This is Kapur's first role playing two roles in a film and he does it well, despite the well used premise of the movie.
